      @xaqvoria u need more, 450sq inches isn’t enough it’s only the minimum, for me 450sq inches is way to small since I live in Germany and our recommended size is 840 sq inches, pls upgrade your cage sooner than later!

    So far the best care for hamsters, mice ect. I've seen is all done in Germany. Of course there are still people who do a bad job, but generally people seem to have a lot more knowledge and the minimum size recommendations are higher compared to English sites. It's great to see more people care about providing their pets with decent habitats :)

    Would you tell me how you clean this cage? I can't always spot where my hammie goes to pee so I'm afraid if I make anything like this the cleaning would be so time consuming and he might end up dying from some bacterial infection if the habitat gets neglected a bit. How often do you replace the soil, sand and shavings and how much? And does it start to stink if you don't replace all the materials?

    • @thehamstertails
      @thehamstertails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i only replace some bedding in his nest (multichamber) once in a while. he also just automatically pushes used bedding out of it that i just remove it. the rest of the bedding i keep for his entire life. if you have a hamster with a different designated pee area of course clean that out.

    I love this setup! Just one question-- I saw you used Chipsi bedding, which as far as I know uses softwood. Is it still a safe bedding to use, is the bedding kiln dried or is it made from a kind of softwood that isn't harmful to hamsters?

    • @thehamstertails
      @thehamstertails  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s 70% spruce which is a completely safe softwood because it has really low phenol levels, about as low as hardwood beddings! And then it’s 30% fir, fir doesnt have as low phenol levels as spruce but it’s lower than normal unsafe softwoods. Because it’s only 30% fir it lowers the phenol levels a lot which makes it completely safe! There have never been a problem reported with it ever besides some hamsters getting allergies but that happens to every bedding🥰

      In the wild hamsters live in burrows. Which you prob already know. There are just a few hamsters in captivity that don’t burrow if they are provided with deep bedding. So almost all hamsters dig themself down. So just think that it’s very normal for them and it’s good that he does. You shouldn’t disturb a hamsters burrow normally, not even to clean it. If you get scared something has happened you could place a treat outside the entrance! And he will be very happy with the upgrade❤️❤️

      @@thehamstertails yep, totally agree! I’m trying different approaches just to see what works but for some reason she’s taking my advice as a personal attack and is calling me a “know it all”. I’m also not the most articulate person when it comes to speaking and it’s hard for me to say what I’m thinking or have good rebuttals to what she says even though I know in my head what to say. But, I’m working on it- slowly but surely!

    That is a heavy cleanup, am I right? I now use paper towel, and cardboard builds, and cleanup is simpler.. not as beautiful as yours, as it is simple looking too.

    You're going to need a lid for this. Syrians are good climbers.

    WOW. Hey, I've been looking into getting a bigger cage for my hamster. Her current cage is 690 square inches. I was wondering if there was a tutorial for this awesome cage? Please reply to my comment if you know!

      Ikea doesn’t sell this cage anymore. You could look into the ikea pax! It comes in 6 different sizes. You build it like a closet then connect the shelves to the bottom of the cage, because it’s to flimsy and would fall out because of the weight of the bedding. And you just make lids to it as you would with another cage! If you don’t understand what I’m saying😅 Dm me on Instagram @cute.hamster.tails and I will send pictures explaining it!
