I am a carpenter and never have heard of the "long for long" saying before, I like it. Mine here in the USA has always been " measure twice and cut once." I have been doing this so long that now I, Measure twice - go to the saw and forget the measurement-measure again and write it down- go to the saw and forgot the paper-get the paper and cut the piece- then go to install it and find out that it does not fit???? At that point I put on my reading glasses and start the process all over again so I might have a chance of getting it correct. Great video as always -Thank you. PS. Even though my boss is a dum-dum he still hasn't fired me yet. (Probably because I'm self-employed?)

I always use Dykem high-spot blueing for checking the fit. Never lies. Carbide scraper for lightly adjusting, and for heavier high spots, a die grinder can be handy. Thanks for the great content and videos. I use the same techniques for checking the fit between the scope base and action, the scope base to the rings, and the rings to scope tube. Lap those rings.

I bedded a 280 cal, 98 Oberndorf Mauser action with Devcon putty, in a Bishop Alaskan wood stock. This was back in the early 1980’s. I was WAY a rookie at doing this but it turned out great! Since then I’ve not had a cause to do so.

I bought an oryx chassis for my .308 weatherby vanguard and the tollerances were so tight I didn’t have to do anything to the chassis. But it’s not always the case as you said mark and it pays to do exactly what you did just to see if it does need modifications.

I bedded a howa action into a bell and carlson chassis with devcon as i found too much slop before fastening and after x number of shots they would have moved relative to each other and affect group size. Best groups did not shrink, but they are now stable. Just saying. Cheers

Mark... Since I own an MDT AIC chassis, what are your thoughts on bedding the barrel lug area only. That was the only area I bedded when I built it. The AL insert has no side-to-side play in it, so I didn’t bother to bed it. There was enough distance at the lug where it “could” have front-to-back shifting...! I can always bed the receiver area if I need to...!

Curious how the 18" barrel will perform. The trend in precision rimfire seems to be longer barrels up to 22".

There is no accuracy difference in a 16" or 18" barrel compared to a 22" barrel (as long as all the barrels are of the same quality). The reason the longer barrels are preferred in precision rimfire is for balance of the rifle, not for accuracy or performance. In some cases, the longer barrel could reduce accuracy because of the possibility of moving the rifle during firing before the projectile leaves the barrel.

Mark...could you in theory, bed the action in spots but put the release agent on the chassis? That way it can still take multiple actions?...( My rifles dont seem to need it. But if it helped, I'd try).
Or is this just dumb?
