Just a little trivia knowledge. The seed inside the mango is usually cleaned and dried until it turns completely white. It's then used in parakeet cages for them to sharpen their beaks on. 😊

Mango's are toxic to birds. Cuttlebones are the shell of cuttlefish. Cuttlebones are used as a calcium supplement for birds, reptiles many others. Cuttlebones have many, many uses. Dried mango seeds have several uses but not for birds.

Hi from Australia, hey Becky, my husband and I have 120 mango trees plus lots of other fruit trees on our property. My grandchildren are always asking when will the trees grow mangoes. Haha they love them we have a 6 week time frame for picking the mangos, we loose alot to fruit bats and native parrots, cockatoos Rosella's and other birds also the ones that drop on the ground the kangaroos eat. We share with family and friends, we are retired and used to sell them to locals. Now it's just if you want some come and pick them yourself. I make a very delicious mango cheese cake. Love your content. Sending blessings 🙌

Hi Becky, generally when you use soy sauce in a dish you use both light (regular) and dark. Light soy sauce for the salty flavor and dark sauce for the color. If you keep adding light soy sauce to a dish because its not the right color, it will be too salty, so you add a little dark soy sauce instead.

Just sharing a honey tip that has helped me. We I open a large jar of honey I divide it into quart canning jars. Then if it crystalizes over time, I can heat it up in the microwave to return it to a liquid without having to scoop it out of a large plastic jug. Thanks for the new recipes.

    • @suzisaintjames
      @suzisaintjames 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

This only works if your microwave takes quart jars. Fun fact: last time I had to buy a microwave there were lots of microwaves that wouldn't fit a quart jar... (I went over a couple or aisles and borrowed a quart, just to make sure the microwave I took home would fit at least a quart jar. Cause that red one I really wanted was too small! 😵‍💫). 💖🌞🌵😷

Never scrape what you've cut off of your cutting board with the edge of your knife (especially that beautiful Cutco Chef's Knife). You're damaging the blade on a microscopic level and the damage will accumulate to ruin your expensive knife. Use a bench scraper, or if you must use the knife, use the other edge of the knife so as not to damage the blade. (Former Cutco Rep)

Hey, finally find someone else who prefers the broccoli stock to the flowerettes. I’m happy bc I’m the only one that eats them here, so yay for me. I don’t have good results baking my broccoli in the oven versus steaming them. Maybe my oven is too high.

I take SO much pleasure in chopping. I’ve been getting chicken quarters into 2 huge pots along with onions, celery & onion, water then cook overnite in a 200 degrees oven. Incredible meat & broth.

My family have curry in our normal rotation. We serve it with several add-on on the side. Mango chutney, chopped peanuts, chopped apple, chopped bacon, chopped egg, coconut, and chopped pineapple. Served with rice. Great make ahead for company. We alternate chicken or shrimp. Yours looks delicious.

Ahhhh, mango. I live if far north Queensland Australia in Cairns. We get some beautiful mangoes. Bowen mangoes are the best. I sometimes refer to them as the fruit of the gods. You really have to taste one to understand. The best way to cut, is down each side of the seed, then slice the 'cheeks' but not all the way through. Then you crisscross on the 'cheek' to make little squares. You can cut the sides off and get a little extra flesh. Oh boy, I have to do this recipe. Thanks. 💖

I would add my broccoli about 30-45 minutes before it's done then add the fresh noodles. I think that would probably work too. Also I like using my regular cast iron because it gives the added benefit of adding iron to your food.

Hi Becky! These recipes look delish. I'm going on a writing retreat and am going to make a couple crockpot meals for my family for when I'm gone! Also, I have a suggestion about cutting your onions. Your knife skills are great! I think you might find you have more control over dicing if you leave the root in the onion. It will help to keep the onion together. Leave the root side (one that has little sprouts) uncut, and then trim off the other end. Something to try!

Your final slow cooker recipe reminds me of one of my favourite go to chicken recipes. Equal mayo, Parmesan cheese, seasoning of your choice, such as lemon pepper or Italian. Spread on top of chicken breast and bake at 400 for about 20 minutes or so…. So easy and Yum.

If you like broccoli stems, have you ever tried kohlrabi. It kinda tastes like broccoli stems but a little spicier.

Your taste buds are very adept. Dark soy sauce is the second round of fermentation after the first batch is removed. The first round of processing is what is often called light soy sauce and is saltier and typically what you’d get in soy sauce packets etc. Dark soy being the second batch has a deeper richer flavor, is a bit thicker and less salty; great for adding color to sauces etc.

I made the yakisoba-type recipe for my husband's lunches this week, but I ended up using the instant pot and the ingredients we had on hand. 20 minutes, majority hands-off. Just the kind of recipe I needed for a late night one pot meal prep.
These are the ingredients I used that were different from the linked recipe
    250 grams dry spaghetti
    7 Tbsp regular soy sauce
half a big bag of broccoli florets
beef broth- enough to make sure my total liquids (including the honey and soy sauce) was 1.25 - 1.33 cups)
    1 cup sliced green onion
Put all the sauces and liquids (except the corn starch slurry) in the bottom of the insert with the garlic,, ginger, and green onion. Nestle pasta into the liquids, may need to break it to fit. Top with broccoli. Set to manual, 6-7 minutes. Quick release. If the pasta is still a little underdone, turn on sauté mode and cook until the desired texture, adding a little water if it starts to look too dry. Stir in the corn starch slurry at the end.
I topped it with some grilled steak we had leftover in the fridge for the protein. Made 5 servings. The broccoli does go pretty mushy with this technique, so you may want to cook it separately if you want a firmer texture.
