Don't mess with a legend that is Thomas Jones!! he's been around for over 60 years, timeless gentleman and in my humble opinion the very best singer who ever lived, his showmanship is also the stuff of legends, I love Tom Jones!!
It's great Tom Jones has been around 60 years. I assume you mean as a performer. He's 78. Unfortunately, Lennon didn't get that chance considering he was murdered at 40.
John Lennon did have a fantastic sense of humor. Remember, Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits used to tell the story that John always called him, Peter No one!
I was lucky enough to be working backstage when Tom was at WVFC radio in '74 . Tom gave me a badge and a hand shandy. The cheeky scamp. Always has time for others did Tom. Top bloke. Sadly missed

John had every right to say that to Mountbatten, The Beatles kept Britain financially a float in the 1960's by paying 95% tax on every dollar they made.
Johnny Len was a wholey terror AND an angel to some here and there and everywhere at times. One things certain..He and his music and sarcastic...caustic wit and scouse wisdom are surely sorely missed in this misguided climate we are all in.

I should’ve known Tom Jones would never have the humility to put John above himself. Every other celeb felt the same way about Lennon as the common fans. Even they could recognize his composing abilities.
Tom Jones is a great entertainer even when he is reminiscing like this about John Lennon. *Tom Jones and Jeff Beck - Love Letters.* TH-cam. Tom started out as a blues singer and he sings ballads like no one else.
That was sincere! As a showman he has put it so politely. There were many things about John we didn't agree about but being the kid he was, it must have been difficult to contain the driving energy, coming from a simple background! Nice to know Tom Jones, and feel that making fun of his song Delilah was being childish! Even Elvis was made fun of in a stupid way!
Yes, Lennon was an incredible song writer, but Jones had the better voice. Lennon's tone was rather thin and nasal whereas Jones had a more powerful, rich, well-rounded sound.
LMFAO, I am in TEARS......Totally Lennon's witty twisty humor and Jones really may not have know that.....but classic replies on both of their behalves. I'm gonna sing it this way every time now.... "It's not a Unicorn, it's an elephaaaant!"

Tom Jones, a regular guy from the Welsh coalmines Very natural and now a Christian Not all full of himself and forever spouting out his beliefs That's the way fame is meant to be handled John Lennon. What the hells not to like? Everything Except his songs, which he was too clueless to appreciate in their entirety He hated everyone, married a creature from hell and now resides there, waiting for her to join him.

When Tom Jones met Elvis they bonded over the fact that they both wanted to punch John Lennon in the face. So it must have been quite a bit later that Tom and Lennon became friends.
Well there is the difference, right. They were both great talents, but Tom Jones had one thing John Lennon didn't have, that one thing was class. Lennon wasn't able to keep quiet when he needed to. When he was a Beatle Paul was there to keep him in check, and even then sometimes Paul didn't catch him in time. Like when he would mock the handicapped. People wouldn't stand for that today. When he was away from the Beatles, there was no one to keep him in check.
Paul did back then. You shouldnt judge people from back then by todays standards, things have changed a lot over the years,. A lot of people did things differently back in the day compared to more recent times.
There's no doubt Lennon was a great talent and I don't think well see the likes of Lennon and McCartney again, but as a human being Lennon was a bit of a Twat.
Can you imagine someone writing a song " Woman is the N______ of the world" today? People lose their minds over some person saying it today and Lennon sang it over and over---nothing ever said about it. Times have changed
@@captinbeyond I agree with you 100%. There is no question about that. Sure times were different, but that still shouldn't make it alright to do some of the things he did. I've seen that reason mentioned before. He got away with the things he did, because there wasn't a camera at every venue, and even the ones that were recorded, they were not seen until years later.

Before knowing him and only having listened to him on the radio, I've read that Elvis thought Tom Jones was black. When Elvis found out he wasn't, it could hardly believe it. Tom Jones has a real soulful voice. Always thought he was a great singer/entertainer.
Tom Jones STILL has his tremendous voice and a Great entertainer. He always loved Elvis (the man who set the bar) and they were great personal friends. John Lennon was talented.

For those of you who don't pay attention - According to John Lennon, his song IMAGINE is a musical tribute to the Communist Manifesto. Don't get mad at me. John Lennon said it, not me.
@@suzannestone798 I agree. Tom Jones had an amazing voice! In fact one could argue that his voice was far better than Lennon's. She did the same thing over Elvis. Of course this was in the late 60's so both were still in their prime. We knew she was playing it up some but it was fun. I was around 9 or 10.

Lennon will be remembered 100 years from now. Mountbatten?,...'where the fuck is Mount Batten'? they will ask in 100 years time...in the Himalayas? 'No, some of him is off the coast of Ireland' will be the reply.
I think that British history will remember Lord Mountbatten in 100 years time, and Lennon even more so. I can understand why Mountbatten deliberately snubbed Lennon to make his point, and I can also understand why Lennon was rather cheeky in reaction. Two men with two very different world views, a brief tense encounter, and, in the end, a humorous story for one who was witness to the event.
It was well known that Mountbatten was a seedy pervert and a nonce. I don't think Lennon, who held the royal family in contempt, would have lost any sleep over being ignored by such a creep. Jones, bizarrely, seems to be quite proud to have been publicly praised by the notorious child abuser. Draw your own conclusions.
Tom Jones would have beat the livin shit outta John Lennon and I'm the biggest Beatle/Lennon fan I know . Tom was not a man to be messed around with and had John stepped to him , he would have instantly regretted it .
He'll be remembered as a Beatle, but for how long after that generation, mine, are gone? He 'll be a character featured in a Wiki history, who as an individual will have about as much fame and relevance in another 50 years as the legendary Henry Hall has today.

I was there in the heyday, and get how significant they were in their time that others who didn't ride that era train won't, ever. Back in the seventies my little disco band got booked into a club as "The Tom Jones Review- One Night ONly". A fat little crook named Tex had taken a fake resume purporting to be Jones' into a club and convinced the owner that he was Jones' manager, got two thousand dollars front money and absconded to Florida a day or two before leaving us to the wolves. People from the tri-state area(Jersey, NYC and PA.) came out in their finest, driven in limos, mink oats, glittering and hungry to see their idol Tom Jones. Instead they got a mediocre disco band whose singer had been Jones' valet for a few ears, had picked up a few mannerisms from his boss and halfway through the first number the crowd swarmed the stage and beat the living hell out of him while beer cans and bottles were flying by our heads as we made an exit. I remember the drummer hurling his cymbals at the crowd before the bouncer made a path for the rest of us to escape. Good times.
Very few left from his era, Bowie has gone, he would be one person I would love to have a chat with, the two surviving Beatles would be almost impossible to meet now, but TJ some chance you could have a chin wag for a few minutes if by chance you happened to meet him.....and in your best Liverpudlian John Lennon voice greet him with..'How are you going.....you Welsh...legend?

Instead they got a mediocre disco band whose singer had been Jones' valet for a few ears, had picked up a few mannerisms from his boss and halfway through the first number the crowd swarmed the stage and beat the living hell out of him while beer cans and bottles were flying by our heads as we made an exit.
