Man I swear the more I learn about Elvis and his sense of humor and personality in life - not just the music, which is fantastic in and of itself - the more I love him. I wish I'd been alive at the same time he was, or rather that he'd lived longer.
Friends from that day in 1965 till Elvis last breath in 1977. Sir Tom Jones confessed a few years ago he thought of Elvis every single day. Elvis said several times Tom was he's only real friend in all music industry. They used to share hotel suites and flats when singing in Las Vegas, went on vacations together, and gathered in family reunions. It's sad that Elvis died so young, and it's even sadder that someone lost he's best friend for 43 years now.
That is NOT TRUE!! Elvis had MANY TRUE FRIENDS in the MUSIC BUSINESS; SAM COOK, BB KING, JAMES BROWN, just to name a few, not even mentioning the many female friends that were loyal.
Uh! They were not best friends. They met twice in Hawaii where Tom Jones invited himself to their getaway. Tom Jones is embarrassing himself nowadays because he's desperately trying to push the notion that Elvis Presley went to Tom Jones and asked HIM how to get a crowd to love him. It's so frigging ridiculous its laughable
i met this man when i was 10 at memphis airport. he waited until my mom could buy a camera to get a foto for over 5 min. while he had to catch a plane. a crowd formed around us but no one asked for a foto or anything out of respect. that generation is legend
My greatest memory of spending time with my Mom...... I took her to Vegas to see Tom Jones for Mothers Day.........We had so much fun and I could not set still, I knew every song he sang and it's a memory I'll cherish till the day I die.
Tom played at the casino resort where I work once in the 2000s.I worked on the golf course at the time but they recruited a few of us to set up chairs and help backstage for concerts. When we did that were able to watch the show from the wings. Tom Jones absolutely blew me away with the power of his voice . I'm not big on ' celebrity ' worship but this guy had charisma that was undeniable . He was clearly a star from the minute he entered the room. I got the chance to talk to him after the show and he was really cool and talked about being friends with Elvis, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder and Jimmy Page .

As the story goes, Elvis was once driving home to Graceland when Tom Jones singing the newly-released “Green, Green Grass of Home” came on the radio and Elvis liked the song so much he called his deejay friend George Klein at the radio station and asked him to play it over and over for him.
There is also a great story about John Lennon that Tom tells. Jones was watching the Beatles rehearse at a show. John said to him it's not a unicorn, it's an elephant. How are you doing you Welsh puff? It's on TH-cam.
For all the bizarreness of this story, it does prove one thing: music was in Elvis' heart and soul, and he was just like a big, innocent kid when he got hooked on a new song. Social conventions (and bathroom privacy) be damned--the music was IT for him!
He Thought He'd Pull A Big Prank(As Tom Jones Room Was Next To His)And He Came In Right On Time, And Sang As He Plopped A Duzy, And Tom Never Forgot About His Good Friend Pulling Another Prank On Him...Elvis Had A Great Sence Of Humor!!!
I’ve seen Tom Jones three times & just amazing each time & I met him once, back stage he’s a legend he is at the highest level as a person a singer, entertainer, a showman - He was so gracious when we met (a cool story) but all that being true if Tom wrote a book “Elvis and Tom” with the stories of their friendship (which I’ve heard TOM was Elvis’s true friend) they did a lot of things together even though Tom Jones is a legend 1 million percent ! Tom has all these Elvis great stories to tell and I wish we could all hear them I wish he would write a book

I read his autobiography, "Over the top and back" one of the greatest books I ever read in my life on a popular musician and the 1960s.
