- Paul Simon and John Lennon co-presenting the GRAMMY for Record Of The Year at the 17th GRAMMY Awards
The GRAMMY Museum debuted its latest exhibit ” John Lennon, Songwriter ” in association with Hard Rock International, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the legendary artist's birth on Oct. 9. The exhibition will pay tribute to the seven-time GRAMMY winner's songwriting genius, his roots and influences, and will explore various elements of Lennon's songwriting history.
John Lennon, Songwriter will cover some of the singer/songwriter's early influences including Eddie Cochran, Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, and more; his time with the Quarrymen and the transition into the early Beatles period; his songwriting collaborations with Paul McCartney; and his transition from the Beatles to a solo artist/songwriter and his work with Ono.

John could have been a great stand-up comedian, as his performances, writings and interviews prove. Witty, sarcastic and entertaining.
NO FLIES ON FRANK. . . . one of the best short stories in any language
I agree with you, but I think that John was a bit of a misanthrope and cannot visualize him touring to make jokes in front of audiences (he did not like to tour to make music concerts either).
He was. When you do music at a high level, you perform. You can perform dead serious, but some have a fine humor.
You know you're pretty good when all you have to do is walk on a stage and get a standing ovation. Speaks volumes about how much John's music meant to people.
I’m pretty sure John knew how good he was even BEFORE this cheesy award show appearance in a room plastered with “Applause Now” signs
@@drdrew3 I'm pretty sure they would have been applauding those two even without the signs.

I thought it was part of his bit of confusing Paul Simon with some other guy named Paul
@MIRobin22 Pretty much. But I think more specifically, when Paul asked "when are you guys getting back together?" about John and Art, he made the Linda joke as if to say Art was Paul in that situation. But it didn't get the laugh he was expecting, which is why he said it was too subtle.

Music Royalty. Simon & Garfunkel & John Lennon. Doesn't get much better than that.
It absloutely can't get any better
Take Art Garfunkel out and put Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan.
Lennon is wearing his Elvis pendant. The mood was ruined when they flashed Yoko's face. The whole television audience just said wtf is she doing there
@@stephenmilburn7622 It's his wife, for f***s sake!
I dunno ... Brian Wilson could have accompanied them, as could have Papa John Phillips ... Maybe Mick?
Ah! John somehow always had that glow to him. What a beautiful, beautiful angel!!😍😍🥺💚💛💜🤍💟
john always has that “I don’t take anything too serious and i’m sarcastic” humour
Watching this in 2020 and this honestly feels like it’s from another planet.
2022 and it's really from another planet.
2023 a different solar system really
Because It is
1:43 John's joy for Elton! Then he cheers after Paul says his name.
John: the greatest non-celebrity "celebrity" that ever was.
He's been dead longer than he has been alive. Rest in Peace, John. We all miss you.
tony orlando's producer
Notice how ALL the songs nominated are great songs. You'd never see that today (all 5 would suck)
Occasionally there would be a decent song
John was so charismatic and fun. When he comes out dancing 😂
Hello there, how is the weather treating you?
I loved John Lennon's bit where he acted like he had to introduce Simon and Garfunkel to each other. John looked liked he was loving any discomfort between Paul and Art, but probably would have had a fit if it was the other way around and Paul McCartney walked out there instead of Art Garfunkel.
I doubt it would have been all that awkward, they were cool with each other again. Most likely it would have brought down the house with John and Paul having an appearance together for the 1st time in several years
Sadly the video cuts off now as Paul & Linda bound down the stairs. There is pics of John & Paul hanging out but no moving video of them together in 1970s. This was the only one, nearly. Wonder if this is Paul's hand at work adding to their mystique. It bugs me..
By 1975 he was cool with Paul. They had jammed the year prior in LA when John was producing Harry Nillson's Pussy Cat LP
He did seem to be enjoying it cause it’s usually about people questioning about him and Paul. Here he got to be the antagonist lol
Paul Simon dishes it back at John saying "you guys getting back together again?" Then John's energy changes and he replies "it's terrible isn't it?..."
I love John but that was fun to see his poke get flipped on him.
Paul, John, and Andy. Damn all stars
And Andy Williams, also a great artist and performer in his own right!
Andy had the best voice of the four by far
@@markymark903 For crooning not for rock n’ roll
oh yeh: 'that's my happy heart you hear/ singing loud and singing clear'
It seems all of the Beatles were natural comedians, LOL. John perhaps more so than the other three.
humor is the best way to brush off the pressure of "fame".. and they had a a great sense of humor.
alex nanton "HUMOUR"PAL
Revolver sue me
I think ringo is the funniest
At a press conference they were asked "How do you find America?" George replied "Turn left at Greenland."
BAHAHAHAHA "which one of you is Ringo" gotta love it
I don't get it
Tung Do me neither
Beatles were often asked their names during the early interviews. Ringo was one of the Beatles, and so was the presenter John Lennon.
Mm, Ringo Star, John Lennon, ¿The Beatles?
John Lennon is a natural comedian my goodness
"WHERE'S Linda? Oh well to, Suttle that one. "" lol had me balling my eyes out.. omg John! I love you bratha. Best Ever
John was a bundle of nerves but kept his humor and had fun. I remember seeing this when it originally aired. The Grammys have gone down the toilet since then.
Four women and a gay man nominated. The 70s was WOKE.
So things got worse, who would have expected?
80s was not bad though
@@suqmadic6672 Of course the Muslim said this.
@@leetorry you just proved his point by using a pre conceived stereotype to further your already redundant point.
@@zenfy5814 Um depends on who you’re speaking to. My mom makes the 80’s sound like they were scary as hell. Crack fiends everywhere
What a great moment in music history RIP. John Lennon
Lennon and Simon, genius lyricists.
when you hear the songs up for the award, and then you see Paul Simon and John Lennon presenting, it really makes you feel like what the hell happened to the great music scene we had back in the 70's, and how did it turn into the crap that's out today, with a few exceptions, I really love John's personality in this video, a classic TV moment, I just wish he was still around today
Amen brother
***** Yes, its just that nowadays you gotta dig deep to find good artists like Tame Impala and Band of Skulls, for example....
Yeah, Tame Impala's good, and I also enjoy My Bloody Valentine and My Morning Jacket.
@Ryan Smith it seemed to close a lot, too.
I noticed the more I complain about music the more I feel like my grandpa. These kids today
My god....... the musical brilliance on that stage..... makes the heart heavy, looking back... love you, John!
Yes, when musicians were really musicians without any pro tools or embellishments.
John looks like a used car
@@petervillalonga1249 LMAO!! I’d buy a car from him. Hahaha
At the end
John: “he’s so serious” 😌
Art: “It is serious!”😤
Any place , anything, or anyone? John Lennon is soooooooooooo funnyyyyyyyy! LOL! What a humor? A good sense of funniness if that’s how you say it? Rest In Peace John. Thank you for your music / laughter always making everyone laugh, good times with John .😢
John's Linda comment was a surreal mention of Linda McCartney after the 'getting back together' banter, John unfortunately appears to have forgotten that Art had just split with his wife - Linda.
+ysgol3 Oh dear, awkward!
+ysgol3 I've got a feeling John hadn't forgotten, but was rather fighting for Paul (S) because he found Artie's dig nasty, so he decided to be a bit nastier to Art. I think you can actually hear him say: "Nasty, nasty." That it was a bit of double dig was, well...too subtle.
+Sapharone Interesting point, though Art's reply about the writing was I think just a very witty and well timed reply to the general banter, and particularly to Paul's 'Stay in the car' quip.
+ysgol3 Yes, you can see it like that, but it doesn't really matter how we see it. I think that banter on stage was slowly falling apart, cause all three of them pushed further bit by bit. Just judging facial expressions and body language.
+Sapharone Yup, quite right, plus of course there's the fact that John was clearly stoned, as probably was Paul !
John was so out of this planet 😃👽 what a special man, what a special soul
John Lennon always had such great fashion
Love this grammy bit. Back in the day when music and grammys meant something.
