    Thanks for this series! I just purchased some of the fabric you made the pillow from. What a wonderful gift your grandma & mom gave you! I have a quilt that is three generations. My grandma has been gone for over 40 years but she made a Sunbonnet Sue, complete with embroidered flowers. She gave it to my mom. I eventually asked for it and being the only daughter she agreed I should have it so she hand-quilted it first before giving it to me. I eventually added the binding (it was a large scalloped edge). It is probably the most dearest quilt I'll ever own or be part of its making. I don't have a daughter, but I have lots of grand daughters to choose to bequeath it to!

    Beautifully done, Carey! May I share a tip for the end join of the binding? That little piece you cut off to get a straight edge on one end is EXACTLY the width of your binding. So no need to use a ruler to measure & mark the opposite end. Just open up & lay that cut off piece on top & you'll have the perfect measurement of where to cut.

    Thanks for showing how to machine bind a quilt. Have arthritis in my hands which makes hand sewing painful. I machine bind all my projects, but never saw a tutorial on how to do this. Your tips are brilliant and easy to follow. I usually use 2 1/2 “ binding but will try a smaller binding on a small project to see if this makes it more attractive. Thanks!

    • @CorianderQuilts
      @CorianderQuilts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! When I am machine binding I always use 2" binding. If I am hand stitching my binding down as the final step, I cut at 2 1/4".

    Corey, you are just a delight to watch. I love you tutorials. I do have a question thought....you spoke of minky on the back of your quilts..do you use spray adhesive on your “quilts”(not small projects) or pin like crazy the layers together when you go to hand quilt?

    • @CorianderQuilts
      @CorianderQuilts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I am usually making smaller projects when I am hand quilting. The largest quilt I've hand quilted is probably only around 60" square or so. For that one, I used spray adhesive and safety pin basted. My mom has two quilt frames that we can put larger quilts into. The quilt in the video that my grandma made and my mom hand quilted would have been done in the frame.

    Thank you for sharing your technique for binding, especially connecting the binding at the end.
    Since Minky is man made & doesn't shrink and the top is cotton & does shrink, do you pre-wash the cotton before sewing it?

    Love your technique for binding! I do have one question .. The stop and starting .. after you sew on the binding to the back and you flip it to the front, you sew down to your line of stitching, cut the thread and pivot .. and start again where the angle is .. how do you prevent thread nests? I usually use a leader but I don't think I can in this case. Just wonder how to prevent that nest!

    • @CorianderQuilts
      @CorianderQuilts 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question. My Juki doesn't have the thread nest issue--but my Bernina sure does! If I were sewing binding this way using my Bernina, I would want to be sure that I was holding those loose threads taut to the back of my machine as I began sewing.
