  • I think some people say that the Summit only sounds that good because of the incredible effects in it...
...and I was often asked how the Summit sounds raw without running through the effect section..
That's why I made this video with a direct comparison between sounds with effects and without.

As a long time Novation fan, and Ultranova owner, I am DEEPLY impressed with the sound of the Summit's raw digital oscillators. My Ultranova, on paper has a similar synthesis engine , but what a difference 10 years of synthesis technology makes. My Ultranova sounds paper thin compared to this, especially in trying to emulate more classic analog type sounds.

Hello Sven! So good to meet you. Thanks so much for your wonderful demo video. Super well done. The Summit is on the top of my list of next Synthesizer purchase. Your demos make the choice alot ea. Have a great weekend. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.

I think effects , paricularly big reverbs are very overused nowadays and personally I find the big 'wash' gets boring very quickly. It does make it easier for synth makers to cover weedy synths though...same with VSTs. I prefer many of these sounds dry. The 1st sound playing tubular bells was very sweet when dry

Well played, but I would prefer ’dry first‘, because wet sounds just better and is the final stage of sound design.

Great playing!! Are these patches stock or did you buy them or made them yourself?

I bought some patches and adapted them to my needs, most of them I made myself…

I get your Point, raw Synth Sounds are mostly underwhelming and really weak. The Thing is....there are Synths sounding terrible even with FX 🤣 Depends on the FX, but even back in the Golden 80s, tell me one artist who didn't use FX? Saw your Comment on the other Summit Clip and we're on the same Page because I tend to say, that you can make VSTs sound like Hardware with some Tweaks, Tape and Reverb. Just uploades a little Clip some days ago with Repro5 w/ and w/o FX....or w/ and w/o PanSpread - even the PanSpread is one Thing EVERY synth should have, just to make it sound Huge, no idea why most VST synths don't offer that function...I get it with HW but Software? come on guys 😅
    nice playing btw 🔥🔥🔥

Great comparison, but I agree dry should've went first, heheh. :)
One question: can you tell me how Summit behaves with monophonic sounds when playing legato trills with sustain pedal pressed? For example you hold a C and keep holding it, then just tap D staccato continuously in order to get a fast trill - all the while holding the sustain pedal. Some synths will eat the envelope attacks, others will work the same way as if you didn't keep the sustain pedal pressed. If Summit behaves the "good" way (same with sustain pedal as when not using sustain pedal), I'm gonna have to spend some money. :P
