My friend really loved my oc, that she drew him, which I’m fine with. 2 days later I see she put him in her comic and claimed it as her own! But she said that it was a mistake because she was thinking about the oc and accidentally drew him instead of the character she intended to be there and said she changed it. But she didn’t. edit: 2 years later and wow this got so many likes lmao i’m shocked but uh just a little update i don’t talk to her anymore and i have no idea if she’s still a thief
Nintendo Nerd this comment is 2 weeks old but that excuse is bs no one is drawing and doesn't notice they're drawing someone else's character that isn't a thing that happens unless you genuinely see the two characters as the same. I hope you called her out because that's honestly a bitchy thing for a "friend" to do
My friend drew my OC one time at school. So here's what happened, We're at our group time and the teacher put on a movie, so I remembered that I was drawing at recess so I had my notebook. My friend was sitting next to me and I was drawing my OC named Minty IceCream. And she said she wanted to draw her and I said You cant yet because I haven't fully made her yet, but she didn't care. I was kinda pissed off because she didn't even know what she was drawing because Minty wasn't finished yet. Not to mention that her drawing is TERRIBLE. I'm not trying to be mean but its just really bad. So then she got really mad at me. Not to mention, but she's kinda stubborn. She got mad at me before group time at recess because she wanted to draw Pusheen Cat in my Notebook and I said no. I love her to death but she's just UNBELIEVABLE sometimes.
When I have trouble with creating a new character, I either: - humanize one of my stuffed animals or anything in my room, really, and add some characteristics - take me from one point in my life and add some characteristics, maybe exaggerate some - watch a show in a language that I’m not familiar with and no subtitles, and make a character based off of the characters in the show. if I don’t know what anyone is even saying, then my character will be completely different from the one in the show _I’ve edited it so that the points will be more spaced out and easier to read for all of you, lately it’s been a bit hard for me to read big walls of text and I don’t want you guys to go through the same ((:_
Kasey Golden Well I move to watching Anime and other shows until I get new inspiration to draw something! Mostly when I find a new and cool character I like so much that I wanna draw them :) Or also watching tutorial videos or speedpaints, makes me wanna try to get to their level and start again.
Does anyone ever go crazy when you get ideas when you're watching anime or something and then you stop to work on it and now you have no inspiration? Or is it just me...?
I once was completely stuck in designing a couple of characters, I had drawn them over and over for three days and nothing was working, then out of desperation and just for the heck of it I drew them with my ohter hand. The line was wonky, but the face and body structure was completely different from what I would have normally tried, like if somebody else had done them, and it ended up being exactly what I needed for the character and the story. I dont do it often but now I know I have a secret weapon up my sleeve when things dont work in a regular way ;)
Does anyone have a thing where they kinda get a ton of ideas, start one thing, then say ‘oh, I’ll work on it later!’ Then, ‘later’ I find another idea, and say ‘oh, I should start now!’ And the other idea is forgotten ....just me? Ok
Artblock is 100% a real thing. I get it all the time thanks to my lack of motivation from ADHD, so I don't like sticking to projects for more than a day. only exceptions are when I just take a break then don't get back to it till the next day or it's late when I start But uh If I don't get it done quick it aint getting done
Redrawing old art, doing another hobby, and just taking a break always helps me. I find forcing myself only makes matters worse and i dread art when it’s forced upon me.
I've been redrawing old art, and when I can't draw (Which is normally in the 1st hour of me drawing) I used to keep the drawing and force myself to make the drawing to look good which really just never works and makes me really upset and just tired of drawing, soo now when I have trouble I take the head of my character which is what I normally struggle with most, and make a new head a few times while looking at the other heads to know what to not do, it basically always works for me.
@@lenalee5516 same, I have been having trouble for months, I was literally producing drawings like a fricking machine and then one day two months ago I just couldn't draw anymore, it's like I've lost my skills and talent and it has me very troubled I feel like my future as an artist is crumbling in front of my eyes....
@@anastsiam Don't worry! Keep calm, I was in that same position just a few months ago. It seems like you've been pushing yourself too hard! take a break. I was taking too many breaks, so I just couldn't draw, but i feel that's okay for a while if you've been pushing out a lot of art. Don't give up hope just yet!
@@3ormoreletters Thank you very much for your reply and encouragement!😄😘 I've been able to draw again lately just not at the pace I would like, I'm still learning to take a step back and remind myself that drawing is a process and it doesn't always go upwards... I feel like I have very high standards in place when it comes to my art which also makes me really sad at times when I'm not progressing the way I would like so the problem with the quality might have also had something to do with that 😥sorry for the obnoxiously long text btw or for any mistakes I might have made since English isn't my first language 😅
This would actually work being that when I listen to songs I like I think up of a whole new world and whole new things, Thanks I never thought of that!
I like to write poetry because when I get art block, it's usually a lack of ideas for a figure, compared to poetry, which can be anything and I write so I at least don't feel like an absolute piece of trash and I can make it through the art block
I have the same problem!... I'm always looking at amazing artists' art (such as LavenderTowne right now ^^;;) and saying to myself how I'm never gonna be as good as them and my art will never reach the level that other's are at... really makes ya feel inferior, y'know? ;-; ...But I still try! -Don't really show it to anyone- but I do try ^^; And you, don't say that, 'cause, I _just_ took a glance at your channel and your art is frEAKING AMAZING!! :D
Its Ya Boi Jay you're so right xD but it's still demotivating from your point of view as an artist cause you usually see the bad things you can do and don't see what you can do of good... even happens in life in general, are humans made to be like that?
Does anyone else do this thing where they look for art as reference and inspiration, then end up getting distracted, and when you finally get focused again, you don’t want to do art anymore? I’ve done this countless times and it’s a real problem
i think my art is pretty good for my age, but when i compare it to others (which are like 10 years older than me) i feel like my art is trash, that’s why when i try to do comics i think like it never looks good and i give up automatically.
If this happens to you, then your getting nowhere. Your not going to tell somebody to buy something from you and call it trash. Your going to have to start putting more hope upon yourself and asking for positive tips from your friends and such, or like an art teacher. After that, if you feel as if your drawing is still not ready to be in comic strips and such, just practice it and eventually you'll get better. Just don't make the same mistakes you saw from your other drawings. Something else that can help you is to relax. Don't work your hand to much.
TurtlesLoveTrees I always do that! I try to forget about art and do other things until the ideas or motivations come back! I also like to look at a lot of art to see If I get some cool Idea
My fear of failure causes massive art block! Also for the hand eye coordination one, playing a simple, fast mobile game like the piano tiles one is always good for getting your brain and your limbs wired back up
Demotivation is sooo crushing at times, when you realize you've been drawing for 10 years or so and still there're like 5-10 pips that give you at least some kind of a feedback :/
I find that the best way to define what happens when I have art block is my mind coming up with a _ton_ of stuff it wants to draw all at once, then when I'm like "ok just pick one to work on now and we'll do the others after that" my mind goes "y'know what, I don't wanna do any of them then" and it's just a never-ending cycle
Mine is more of a "Oh god i wana draw all these things, let me write them down, the ideas will be great and i will be an infamous content creator and people will acknowledge me!" *doesnt do them, months/weeks pass by..* "Oh god i have alot of these ideas but i cant manage my time properly, i should try to do one before i get overwhelmed with a tower of ideas, its also been a while since i've last posted on youtube." *works on idea, but quits less than halfway while doing it* "OH GOD I HAVE THIS VERY TIME-CONSUMING ANIMATED IDEA THAT I DIDNT FINISH YET AND ITS BEEN MONTHS SINCE I'VE LAST DREW MORE THAN THE INITIAL 200-500 FRAMES I MADE ON THIS MINUTES LONG, MUSIC SYNCED, 24FPS ANIMATION PROJECT" *tries to pour work onto the aforementioned, overly-ambitious, time-consuming animation idea, all alone of all things, while trying not to think about how time is running out slowly for him as a growing teenager, how they have to deal with puberty, school stress, and family/social stress at the same time. however when trying to work on the said project he does not even make more than 10-30 frames due to not feeling like it and deciding to say.. "im gonna do it later"* . *the cycle then may proceed to repeat weeks later, or months later, but with a bigger feeling of dread and mental exhaustion where i monologue to myself about how i should be mindful of time managment* .
HI HALEY!! I'm the second like but your lasts video really inspired me to start my comic that I've had in my mind for months and months!! You're really a helpful artist, and I hope you a nice artist life with as little art block as possible!!
Fandom Universe I haven't uploaded it anywhere yet, but I'm starting to post updates in my IG @lumiikitty if you want, it's also called Starstruck (≧∀≦)
I lost my motivation for everything *but* drawing. I never feel like doing homework or school work (Though most people don't either) and whenever I try working on content for my channel, I can't. Doing almost anything. I still can't. And then I end up drawing something.
Thanks LavenderTowne! I am actually in Art Block right now, and I tried drawing while watching and it really helped *Also Protip, watch LavenderTowne while drawing for inspiration!
I'm looking at the art you put into this video, and I'm seeing it's more detailed in this than others of this kinda thing. I really love it in this video ^w^ looks awesome, and love listening to you! Keep up the great work!
yeah I was going to comment on that too! the shading is a bit different and it seems like it's drawn slightly different and I think it looks really good!
Whenever I can't think of something to draw, I like to either watch a TV show, read a book, or just start to daydream. This usually kicks my creativity back into gear so I can think of stuff to draw........my only problem is that I never have time to freely draw anymore because of school. **cough cough** MATH HOMEWORK **cough cough** Oh sorry, I must have allergies or something
Lilipou That’s a funny coincidence haha! I hope there will be a day when everyone can just have free time to think of stuff to inspire them. Luckily, my Math homework problem has been sorted out, so that work isn’t the issue anymore at least :)
Catherine D I want to avoid animating stuff that has been overused, for example The message that Wreck it Ralph had was that you don't have to be who you were meant to be. This idea was passed down to the emoji movie and the Lego movie. It's too over used and I want to avoid repeating things over and over.
Everything that goes through my brain while trying to draw: I have so many good ideas! *pulls out sketch book* what was I going to draw? *draws an oc in different styles* *looks at the furry one* WHY IS THIS ONE THE BEST ONE?!?!?!? *Draws something accually good* trashing it *draws something when I feel like drawing* WHY IS IT ONLY BAD WHEN I WAANNNTT TO DRAW* REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
My art block is caused by simply being tired or being forced. I hate drawing requests I just can't seem to do it. I feel much better drawing from my own brain. Not to mention I get tired F ASTT
Same here. I still draw and people have given me requests to draw but those really weren't my taste. I end up drawing an entirely new character for my free write story. :/
any idea for writer's block? I want to write this story I have in my mind... But I'm afraid to, I feel like it'll end up bad and ruin my ideas of this "perfect story"
You just have to do it. Fear of failure won't get you anywhere; you will just stay stuck as you are. Conquer your fears and try. If it ends failing in the end you can still use it as an opportunity to learn from the mistakes you had made. The next story you write will be better than the last because of what you learned from your previous experience. Just remember to try even if it seems like sure failure something good will come from it. Experience gained is experience earned to lead you on to even better paths.
The incarnation of boredom JUST WRITE IT, have your friends read it and give you ideas! Then, decide which ideas you like and write it again!! Trust me I’ve done this.
The incarnation of boredom Don't worry if u want to do it u can and just try to spend A LOT of time on it or just don't let urself think of it as a "no longer perfect story"
/Just a little french passing through/ Whenever I can't draw I watch your videos and after this I'm able to draw some good stuff again, and now you're posting a video about Art Block you're my guardian angel xD
Friend: Hey! Can you help me draw something? Me: Uh sure.. but it won’t turn out good very good, I have art block right now. Friend: but isn’t art block not real? Me: oh leT ME TELL YOU-
I've decided today, that I'm not going to have any more zero days for art. I've had art block for a couple of days. I was in art class today and decided that I would make a bigger effort. If it's 11:58PM and I haven't drawn anything, I'm going to do it. I'll draw something. Even if it's just an eye or a very undetailed drawing, I'm going to draw something. I want to improve, and I'm going to do my best to not let art block stop me.
Frostycloud ooh how inspirational! I had long period where I couldn't draw and I hated my art with a passion. A couple of weeks ago I had one day where I felt super motivated and I drew sooo much and that's how I got out of it, but this is a good idea when you don't have random "inspiration days."
Best way I found is to sit in silence for an hour, allowing your brain to go through every reason why you can't do it, why you have to make something, why you should, etc. Just let it do its thing and observe it, without arguing or judging. When all those nagging, anxious voices stop, you will find peace on the other side. Human beings are by nature creators. We cannot not create. If our souls are not creating, our egos will, and the only thing the ego knows how to create is problems, and then solve those fake problems, which causes real problems. If you are experiencing "Artists block", your ego has created a problem and gave it a name. Sit for an hour with your eyes closed in silence, and let your brain freak out, not judging it. Love the thoughts that come.l up because they are just thoughts, they are not you. When it has nothing else to say, you will experience peace, and now-ness. That now-ness is where you will find true creativity. Let go of your fears and expectations. When you have an expectation, you are saying "This needs to go a certain way for me to be happy". Instead, have an intention. An intention means you have a goal you'd like to reach, but you are open to whatever outcome happens to be. Don't be so hard on yourselves. Love yourself, and don't judge.
this video inspired me to start a project I've been wanting to start but wasn't sure if i should the all of a sudden when i thought more about this big project the art block was gone^^
problem 1: lavenders idea, or draw fanart problem 2: watch speedpaints done with a mouse (doesnt work for those who get jealous) problem 3: stabilizer if ur drawing digital, lavenders idea, or just draw anyway because you will improve anyway problem 4: watch anime or something hope this helped lol
Does this happen to anyone else when you have the picture of what you're drawing in your head... But once you try drawing it on paper it looks very... Different?? (Only me? ok.....)
I think that's something every artist faces, I don't think that ever stops being a thing either. It's doesn't help either that a lot of times for me, what I imagine in my head Incorporates techniques, mediums, or styles I haven't practiced or haven't got a grasp of yet.
You deserve love, and depression is a horrible thing I’ve been through what I would do if your an artist is look and happy stuff, and if you need to cry, cry, if you always let it out it’ll fade away, never ever watch anything sad when your in this state because it’ll ruin it, also talk about it with your family, because they will help you. And they love you I promise even at times where it doesn’t seem so
DO NOT BOTTLE UP! I struggled with emotional repression that started with not speaking or acting off when I was down, and it slowly turned toxic and controlling. P. S. Since it's been a year, have you made progress in recovering?
The problem with me is that I have too many ideas and I'll start somthing but then I'll never finish it because I have so many ideas and then I end up having art block
I love your art really much, When I was about 8 I started drawing like you, and people in my class loved my drawing and they said that I was one of the best drawers in my class. Of course I didn't tell them that I learned how to draw by myself but from you. Ever Since, I have loved your drawings!
U made me remember that drawing it's supposed to be fun, and what I've noticed I'm a bit strict with myself when it comes to drawing, because if it doesn't come out I think I'm not doing my best and I can stay on a sketch for several weeks not liking it and in the end I end up erasing it, so now I'm just going to make something that is fun and that I don't feel like it is an obligation, thank u for reminding me that
I figure that I come up with drawing ideas most often late at night when trying to fall asleep. Next time I come up with something I'm going to write it down so I can draw it the next day. :D
I recently experienced HARD art block. I could not draw , wanted to cry for no reason , and felt like my art was awful although everyone was encouraging me. This was caused from me comparing myself to successful artists that I look up to and I thought their art was much better than mine and I can't get there. I eventually just powered through by hyping myself up and drew for the fandom I'm apart of , it made me feel like I was capable and could continue with art :] I had thought I had felt artblock before but I knew I hadn't when I experienced that
That’s what I’m going through right now, I’m still learning how to draw and I’ve figured out my art style for the most part, but the issue is that I’m having trouble drawing hands and arms so when I want to get out of my comfort zone and try new poses, I’m starting of very confident but then I have to think about the actual pose and that’s what discourages me and I don’t draw for months on end :/
Herm... I have a tip for the people that want to draw but can't get ideas :3 well two tips actually. 1) you can ask a friend about what you should draw or offer them to draw something for them. 2) (this one is also good when you draw badly that day) make a big calender, pick a personna you like, and draw it every day :D you could also just pick a personna and draw it in different styles :3
What I usually do is listen to music and start a "doodle page", basically I draw a random shape like paint spilling, or a skull, then I fill it with with little drawings, usually things I've drawn before, or brand new ideas! I think this is a good exercise because there's no wrong way to do it 😁
When I don’t know what to draw I draw fan art for my friends that are obsessed with a new show so I can give them the drawings later. Or I watch TH-cam and eat ice cream. __(_._.)_ Love your videos and thank you for advice that I really needed. I lately really have not been motivated to draw and don’t know what to do. Thank you and you are amazing :)
I kinda need a bit of help. I seem to be having the opposite of the lack of ideas kind of art block. I am having way to many ideas at once. I start working on one idea then I end up getting a new idea and starting that one and never going back to the old idea, no matter how good it is. Do you have any ideas on how to maybe help? If you can't it is totally fine. It's just the last few people have been telling me that I just haven't tried hard enough or worked fast enough or they think that Art Block isn't real so yeah. I just honestly want some advice about this.
MilkyCoco I didn't mean for every drawing. No one can just draw the same idea as all that they draw. I more so ment I have a lot of constant ideas of things that would make really good long time project things, I end up designing the characters and start to draw out what happend next but, then I get a new idea of something entirely different and random and I don't go back to the previous thing
how i get ideas when im in a crappy art block: play a dress up game and then draw that character use an art prompt generator draw a character from one of my fandoms draw a disney princess (i dont really like disney or disney princesses that much, i like mattels ever after high/monster high better but disney girls are fun to draw) draw blobs with watercolor then line them with a pen look at my favorite artists art (my favorites are floredoodler, lavandertowne and many more) draw an oc do an art challenge draw my pet doggo (or as a human) DRAW POKEMON (even from memory) drawing pokemon really helps with my art block, the designs are really neat ^v^ or just play pokemon haha,, for some reason that helps me and im able to draw after that ~i love these videos lavander,, their so cute and the drawings are nice :>
Personally, I think art blocks are a real thing for damn sure. There are these days when I have those great ideas and for the love of god, I can't quite get them done. Usually, when that happens to me I just relax and take it easy but I relax too much and I don't get anything done through the week... I found out that the only way to motivate myself is through competition, oddly enough. If some of my friends or my siblings challenged me to anything art related I got unbelievably fired up and do so much work that I myself can't believe I've done... perhaps competition is healthy after all!
me: *stares at paper for 1 hour* LavenderTowne: lack of motivation me: *looks up to window and shakes head* LavenderTowne: Disconnect me: * shrugs shoulders* *video ends* me: It's covid 19. That's my problem
i’ve had art block for months now, i have desire to create anymore. ill just stare at a blank piece of paper and have no idea what to do. i love drawing and making things but recently i’ve just been stumped i guess. trying to find motivation to keep creating though, and this video helped a lot!! thank you for this :)
I personally think you shouldn’t force yourself to draw, just ride out the art block; but if you really insist on drawing, I recommend drawing little things. Just simple fast doodles to get into the habit of drawing again. Maybe try a monthly challenge. Just search “July Art Prompts” and you can try your best to stick to making one small simple drawing every day.
Another recommendation that personally works best for me, is redrawing old pieces of art. It really motivates me and demonstrates that you are actually improving. Hope this helps!
Thank you I have been doing anime characters in the same position for a year and this vid inspired me to start trying new things and for that you have gained a sub
I honestly have art block a lot, so, I post once a month so I don't over work myself and so my Animation will look as good as I want it to, this video helped a lot.
I had art block before I started on my Halloween project. It's a bit of a challenge but ever since I started I've been able to have more motivation than ever! And plus thanks to you I also found my style which also helped in making the project easier 😊
I have been having this.."art block" for awhile now, it has been stopping me for a very long time now (5 months) and I haven't been able to draw as usual, It is either I have no idea what to draw, or if I try to it just ends up terrible, this causes me to just feel like my art is getting worse, and I am forgetting how to draw. I am starting to get upset because art is my main talent.
im very late to this video but I literally was suffering so bad the other day with art block and something I found that worked the best for me was just listening to music. for some reason whenever I have no idea what to draw when I listen to a favorite song or two of mine I always get right back on track! also my hand not remembering how to use a pencil is SO real, but I usually just take time to play with my dog or something and then I come back to it and I'm fine :)
The longest I’ve gone without drawing is 4-5 months. And by drawing I mean doing a full drawing and not beginning a sketch and stopping when I can’t figure out what I wanna do.
Really sorry nobody else answered your question (for 8 months too!!), I suggest working on other pieces, reading other comics for inspiration, maybe take a long break from drawing until you feel the want to come back. Then, you might finally be at peace to draw the finishing touches.
Tay Is Trash maybe try taking random ideas and mashing them together? Eventually you will get something cool. Or maybe do exercises for making characters...use character prompts, etc
Tay Is Trash I would suggest watching tv shows you like or look at pictures from "Art Websites" (if thats how you call them) I usually get lots of ideas that way. I'd look at a picture and think "oh I love the colors" and then I'd try to use such colors on my art if that makes sense.

I hope you called her out because that's honestly a bitchy thing for a "friend" to do
My friend drew my OC one time at school. So here's what happened,
We're at our group time and the teacher put on a movie, so I remembered that I was drawing at recess so I had my notebook.
Straight up tell her. Just don't be rude about it.

When I have trouble with creating a new character, I either:
- humanize one of my stuffed animals or anything in my room, really, and add some characteristics
- take me from one point in my life and add some characteristics, maybe exaggerate some
- watch a show in a language that I’m not familiar with and no subtitles, and make a character based off of the characters in the show. if I don’t know what anyone is even saying, then my character will be completely different from the one in the show

Kasey Golden Well I move to watching Anime and other shows until I get new inspiration to draw something! Mostly when I find a new and cool character I like so much that I wanna draw them :)
Or also watching tutorial videos or speedpaints, makes me wanna try to get to their level and start again.
I found your channel today, from the collab you did with Waffles!
I see you everywhere, Kasey!!! Haha!! You have great taste 😉
Kasey Golden
Ironically that's the reason I have art block xD
Does anyone ever go crazy when you get ideas when you're watching anime or something and then you stop to work on it and now you have no inspiration?
Or is it just me...?
Me... ;~;
That is. Literally why I’m here :’’)
Me
nop, actualy I think its normal!
If I take a break with drawing, I lose all of my energy to continue
People say art block isn't real but writers block is? Writing, music, art are all forms of art and you can have a lack of ideas with any form of art
Yes art block and writers block is that same thing, but sometimes people believe in one and not the other
Wow I've never heard people saying writers block is real while artist block isn't, that's really stupid
ikr. It's a form of artist block so it is real
Noodlian writers don't think writer block is real either don't talk unless you're in the community
and some artist(drawing) think artist block isn't real
I once was completely stuck in designing a couple of characters, I had drawn them over and over for three days and nothing was working, then out of desperation and just for the heck of it I drew them with my ohter hand. The line was wonky, but the face and body structure was completely different from what I would have normally tried, like if somebody else had done them, and it ended up being exactly what I needed for the character and the story. I dont do it often but now I know I have a secret weapon up my sleeve when things dont work in a regular way ;)
Can I use this technique?
Tbh if I did that, it would look like someone drew it with a broken foot (I can’t use my left hand, not even for weight lifting)
Does anyone have a thing where they kinda get a ton of ideas, start one thing, then say ‘oh, I’ll work on it later!’ Then, ‘later’ I find another idea, and say ‘oh, I should start now!’ And the other idea is forgotten
....just me? Ok
I have that with writing! thankyou so much, you make me feel not alone :)
Deino Greenstreet it’s good to know that I’m also not the only one like this! XD
Yes, very much! XDD it also happens to me with animation! XDD
(Might edit this when I have time and this is here for a reminder)
Write a list of ideas
Pink Lemoonade Yoooo that’s so relateable xD I have a whole notebook full of ideas that I never get to starting

Artblock is 100% a real thing.
I get it all the time thanks to my lack of motivation from ADHD, so I don't like sticking to projects for more than a day. only exceptions are when I just take a break then don't get back to it till the next day or it's late when I start
But uh
If I don't get it done quick it aint getting done
Sameeee but I have ADD but I have the same issue where I start something then get bored of it then never finish it-
omg i have so many unfinished projects and sketches.. 😭
Redrawing old art, doing another hobby, and just taking a break always helps me. I find forcing myself only makes matters worse and i dread art when it’s forced upon me.
Haili i redraw old art whenever i feel uninspired (w h i c h i s a l l t h e t i m e)
I'm watching this in the middle of an art block, you just saved my life 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Steps to get ideas and motivation:
1.get your favorite songs
2.put them in a playlist
3.play
This actually solved this problem for me so many times
This would actually work being that when I listen to songs I like I think up of a whole new world and whole new things,
Thanks I never thought of that!
Same!
Done that already I’m out of Billie eilish songs
I tried this and I end up drawing something that expresses the lyrics, it's really helped my art block!
I like to write poetry because when I get art block, it's usually a lack of ideas for a figure, compared to poetry, which can be anything and I write so I at least don't feel like an absolute piece of trash and I can make it through the art block
I often have art block, this feeling to draw like shit and can't go on with drawing.. It often happens when i look at better artists than me
I have the same problem!... I'm always looking at amazing artists' art (such as LavenderTowne right now ^^;;) and saying to myself how I'm never gonna be as good as them and my art will never reach the level that other's are at... really makes ya feel inferior, y'know? ;-;
...But I still try! -Don't really show it to anyone- but I do try ^^; And you, don't say that, 'cause, I _just_ took a glance at your channel and your art is frEAKING AMAZING!! :D
Cécilou There's no such thing as "Better than", that's based on opinion. Someone could think you're better than, heck, Leonardo Devenchi.
I would recommend to draw first and only after you are finished look at other persons art.Or not to look at them at all but that is not really good.
Cécilou same
Its Ya Boi Jay you're so right xD but it's still demotivating from your point of view as an artist cause you usually see the bad things you can do and don't see what you can do of good... even happens in life in general, are humans made to be like that?
Does anyone else do this thing where they look for art as reference and inspiration, then end up getting distracted, and when you finally get focused again, you don’t want to do art anymore? I’ve done this countless times and it’s a real problem
It happens all the time and I friggin hate it
Same here. I think it’s a mix of adhd focus + perfection analysis paralysis 🤷🏻♀️
i think my art is pretty good for my age, but when i compare it to others (which are like 10 years older than me) i feel like my art is trash, that’s why when i try to do comics i think like it never looks good and i give up automatically.
Bruh, same here. But I did looked at your art and I envy your coloring, It's really good!

And then i rip all of my art up :D

TurtlesLoveTrees I always do that! I try to forget about art and do other things until the ideas or motivations come back!
I also like to look at a lot of art to see If I get some cool Idea

I find that the best way to define what happens when I have art block is my mind coming up with a _ton_ of stuff it wants to draw all at once, then when I'm like "ok just pick one to work on now and we'll do the others after that" my mind goes "y'know what, I don't wanna do any of them then" and it's just a never-ending cycle
Same😬
Exactly what mine is 😭
Mine is more of a "Oh god i wana draw all these things, let me write them down, the ideas will be great and i will be an infamous content creator and people will acknowledge me!" *doesnt do them, months/weeks pass by..* "Oh god i have alot of these ideas but i cant manage my time properly, i should try to do one before i get overwhelmed with a tower of ideas, its also been a while since i've last posted on youtube." *works on idea, but quits less than halfway while doing it* "OH GOD I HAVE THIS VERY TIME-CONSUMING ANIMATED IDEA THAT I DIDNT FINISH YET AND ITS BEEN MONTHS SINCE I'VE LAST DREW MORE THAN THE INITIAL 200-500 FRAMES I MADE ON THIS MINUTES LONG, MUSIC SYNCED, 24FPS ANIMATION PROJECT" *tries to pour work onto the aforementioned, overly-ambitious, time-consuming animation idea, all alone of all things, while trying not to think about how time is running out slowly for him as a growing teenager, how they have to deal with puberty, school stress, and family/social stress at the same time. however when trying to work on the said project he does not even make more than 10-30 frames due to not feeling like it and deciding to say.. "im gonna do it later"* . *the cycle then may proceed to repeat weeks later, or months later, but with a bigger feeling of dread and mental exhaustion where i monologue to myself about how i should be mindful of time managment* .

The bad thing about me when it comes to drawing is that I want to avoid cliches, when I animate and the overthinking really pushes me back
J John what do you mean by clichés?
J John SAMEEEE OMGGGGG I DIDNT THINK PEOPLE HAD THIS TOO
Catherine D I want to avoid animating stuff that has been overused, for example
The message that Wreck it Ralph had was that you don't have to be who you were meant to be. This idea was passed down to the emoji movie and the Lego movie. It's too over used and I want to avoid repeating things over and over.
Its time to Stob it yeah, especially when I draw comic and write a script.

any idea for writer's block? I want to write this story I have in my mind... But I'm afraid to, I feel like it'll end up bad and ruin my ideas of this "perfect story"
You just have to do it. Fear of failure won't get you anywhere; you will just stay stuck as you are. Conquer your fears and try. If it ends failing in the end you can still use it as an opportunity to learn from the mistakes you had made. The next story you write will be better than the last because of what you learned from your previous experience. Just remember to try even if it seems like sure failure something good will come from it. Experience gained is experience earned to lead you on to even better paths.
you should watch Terrible Writing Advices's video on writer's block
Write fanfiction, do other stuff that isn’t writing (get out of the house if you can), or draw even crappy doodles of your characters

You got this dude!
Frostycloud why not 12 am?
Frostycloud i had an art block for 3 months
Iwona Olszewska uh I don’t think that’s an art block, I think you’re just not interested in art.
Love yourself, and don't judge.

literal satan thanks man
literal satan or whatever gender you are
YOU ARE AMAZING AND
You deserve love, and depression is a horrible thing I’ve been through what I would do if your an artist is look and happy stuff, and if you need to cry, cry, if you always let it out it’ll fade away, never ever watch anything sad when your in this state because it’ll ruin it, also talk about it with your family, because they will help you.
I LOVE this painting style you used
I love your art really much, When I was about 8 I started drawing like you, and people in my class loved my drawing and they said that I was one of the best drawers in my class. Of course I didn't tell them that I learned how to draw by myself but from you. Ever Since, I have loved your drawings!
iiDelicate I don’t like the word drawer. It’s pronounced Artist.
U made me remember that drawing it's supposed to be fun, and what I've noticed I'm a bit strict with myself when it comes to drawing, because if it doesn't come out I think I'm not doing my best and I can stay on a sketch for several weeks not liking it and in the end I end up erasing it, so now I'm just going to make something that is fun and that I don't feel like it is an obligation, thank u for reminding me that
Person: OHHH What are you gonna draw?
Me: Excuse me but I have an art block right now
Person:Oh...Okay.
I eventually just powered through by hyping myself up and drew for the fandom I'm apart of , it made me feel like I was capable and could continue with art :]
I had thought I had felt artblock before but I knew I hadn't when I experienced that
That’s what I’m going through right now, I’m still learning how to draw and I’ve figured out my art style for the most part, but the issue is that I’m having trouble drawing hands and arms so when I want to get out of my comfort zone and try new poses, I’m starting of very confident but then I have to think about the actual pose and that’s what discourages me and I don’t draw for months on end :/
Your art is reminding me more and more of doctor seuss and i cant pinpoint why just like the colours and the linework

I think this is a good exercise because there's no wrong way to do it 😁
Thanks! I am going to try this out! 😊
When I don’t know what to draw I draw fan art for my friends that are obsessed with a new show so I can give them the drawings later. Or I watch TH-cam and eat ice cream. __(_._.)_
Love your videos and thank you for advice that I really needed.
Asriel as it gets Wrte them all down as they come to you
Got it thx :D
SAME. I can't keep the same idea for every drawing :/
Same
I'm early? wOW

My art block stopped because I started watching your videos 🥺🥺 thank you for being an actual human being :)
how i get ideas when im in a crappy art block:
play a dress up game and then draw that character
use an art prompt generator
draw a character from one of my fandoms
draw a disney princess (i dont really like disney or disney princesses that much, i like mattels ever after high/monster high better but disney girls are fun to draw)
draw blobs with watercolor then line them with a pen
look at my favorite artists art (my favorites are floredoodler, lavandertowne and many more)
draw an oc
do an art challenge
draw my pet doggo (or as a human)
DRAW POKEMON (even from memory) drawing pokemon really helps with my art block, the designs are really neat ^v^
or just play pokemon haha,, for some reason that helps me and im able to draw after that
~i love these videos lavander,, their so cute and the drawings are nice :>
Personally, I think art blocks are a real thing for damn sure. There are these days when I have those great ideas and for the love of god, I can't quite get them done. Usually, when that happens to me I just relax and take it easy but I relax too much and I don't get anything done through the week...
I found out that the only way to motivate myself is through competition, oddly enough. If some of my friends or my siblings challenged me to anything art related I got unbelievably fired up and do so much work that I myself can't believe I've done...
perhaps competition is healthy after all!
me: *stares at paper for 1 hour*
LavenderTowne: lack of motivation
me: *looks up to window and shakes head*
LavenderTowne: Disconnect
me: * shrugs shoulders*
*video ends*
me: It's covid 19. That's my problem
Wat does this mean
Could you do a tutorial on backgrounds? Like a Do and Don't mind of thing. I'm really struggling and could use some advice...
I like the new shading style!!!
i’ve had art block for months now, i have desire to create anymore. ill just stare at a blank piece of paper and have no idea what to do. i love drawing and making things but recently i’ve just been stumped i guess. trying to find motivation to keep creating though, and this video helped a lot!! thank you for this :)
When there's art block you should just draw... (Drumroll)
Eggman! Because Eggman is the answer to everything! (Did anyone get that reference?)
CyberEnder /GoatZ and stuff/ im guessing nobody dod cuz they didnt reply .-. Sorry man
Yeaaaaah...
Nope. Sorry
I have no idea what you’re taking about
CyberEnder /GoatZ and stuff/ Sonic, right?
OMG YES!!!
Thank you
I have been doing anime characters in the same position for a year and this vid inspired me to start trying new things and for that you have gained a sub
I feel like i have very big ideas for my skill and that demotivates me
The longest I’ve gone without drawing is 4-5 months. And by drawing I mean doing a full drawing and not beginning a sketch and stopping when I can’t figure out what I wanna do.
my 2 ways of battling art block is to either base an art around something neat I find or go in-depth on my own characters or either just take a break
I started a comic, but im struggling to find the inspiration to finish it. So, what should I do?
Really sorry nobody else answered your question (for 8 months too!!), I suggest working on other pieces, reading other comics for inspiration, maybe take a long break from drawing until you feel the want to come back. Then, you might finally be at peace to draw the finishing touches.
Do it anyway
Im not one for big projects, but I have art block a lot. I need to draw more but I'm not good with ideas of characters
Tay Is Trash draw characters from your fav tv show or game I usually do that or make a oc
Tay Is Trash maybe try taking random ideas and mashing them together? Eventually you will get something cool. Or maybe do exercises for making characters...use character prompts, etc
Tay Is Trash draw fanart or take requests from your friends
Thank you all so much! I'll defo have better ideas now x3
Tay Is Trash I would suggest watching tv shows you like or look at pictures from "Art Websites" (if thats how you call them) I usually get lots of ideas that way. I'd look at a picture and think "oh I love the colors" and then I'd try to use such colors on my art if that makes sense.
