Another stereotype is like whenever you tell someone that you draw, they automatically assume that you are some sort of art goddess that can just draw EVERYTHING PERFECTLY, when in reality every artist is at different stages of their learning process, and usually an artist also have like one or two focus areas and can't draw EVERYTHING. Like for example some artists have trained drawing humans or animals a lot, but they may be really bad at drawing stuff like buildings, cars or nature. And when you then draw something like that, and it doesn't turn out very good they are all like "but I thought you said you could draw?!"
Uni Corn omg right! I draw people and animals, absolutely suck at buildings and plants and stuff. Someone told me to draw a house, I kept saying no gut eventually caved, they get mad at my not being able to even though I TOLD them, I can't draw houses.
Tf I know right I'm more of a person who draws humans better than animals, and one guy asked me to draw a dog because he saw me draw my human OCS, but I failed and he said, "Lol I thought you were a good drawer"
Whenever I would say I do art people would automatically assume I'm really in touch with nature for some reason. Like they think I'm supposed to act like some female Bob Ross. I've painted a lot more angry cloud's than happy trees
Aleeya YellowBird sameeee my mom shows me a sunset picture and im like: ok..? Then my mom goes crazy like: WHAT IS OK?! WHAT KIND OF ART STUDENT WOULD SAY THAT?! You have no interest about good things. ...Mom, what is wrong with you
Another thing is like, when people hear the word “artist” they just think of realism. Like, they think the only types of true artists are realism artists, when it takes many, many years to get to that style. Most artists don’t even want to draw realism. There’s semi-realism, cubism, abstract, comical, so on, so forth.
Ik! I consider myself a halfway artist cause I can draw anime really well but I only have like 2 finished drawings because I'm lazy and not too mention i somehow manage to draw well but I NEVER do sketches. I guess you could call me a lazy hobby artist.
I try to draw like that but I'm bad at it so I just keep on trying and I gave up on it so I said 'maybe I will try something new' Me trying to draw something new and I try and try and try but I CAN'T GET IT and so I said 'why do I keep trying I'm bad at this...' And one day I saw this one painting that said 'don't give up and keep on trying and you'll get it keep on trying' And it was like I was a new Hooman UwU
Public think: Artists are so creative! * Sees creative art made by an artist: * "Wow, the only way anyone could have thought of this is through mind-altering, hallucinogenic drugs!" Pick a lane.
Yeah, I like drawing bloody images and kinda gory stuff orr sometimes stuff that are more "sexy" and a lot of times I feel ashamed because of what people are saying to me...... It's just how I express myself....
I have never done drugs in my life and yet I've had people describe some of my work as "trippy" or "fever-dream" or ask if it was inspired by an acid trip. And it's like, nope! My mind is just Like That. I sometimes suspect that it has to do with inhibition. I think a lot of creative people can just choose to switch on and off their creative inhibition -- the "this makes no sense" instinct. I always have it "switched off" when I am first drafting (I'm more of a writer than a visual artist), and then I switch it on during revision. I think the people who assume that drugs are involved may struggle more with switching off that inhibition on command.
"Omg why did you draw him naked ??? You draw porn ???" No it's for the anatomy...I will add clothes later but I need to sketch the body first so the drawing doesn't look weird...
yeah, people think I'm drawing weird stuff or aliens when I draw the body first. if I don't do a sketch of the body first the anatomy and proportions are all messed up
One time I was drawing some of my characters naked so I could get a good grasp of their anatomy and be able to draw them easier (I was planning to use them for a comic, though I ended up scrapping it anyway). My mom saw my sketchbook and asked me why I was drawing porn. The drawings were not sexual in any way... They were just anatomy practice... And I even said that but she still though I was drawing porn... I WAS 11...
One common misconception is that as soon as someone hears that you draw, they assume you can draw anything. Like I draw mainly people but dont know JACK SHIT about patterns. Its like asking an abstract artist to draw a hyper realistic piece of artwork its just not their thing
I know right! I'm best with animals and whenever someone finds that I can draw they're like "can you draw me?" and I'm like "heh, no, I'm not good with people (both drawing & socially)."
Wendaddys forehead same.. I only draw toonish angsty teenagers lool And these substitute teachers keeps asking me to draw them realistic. Like ... Back in middle and highschool. Was just horrible for me to tell them no Idk how to do realistic. :C
One stereotype I hate is when people say you are not a real artist when you use stencils or references. Like okay can YOU draw every single Pokemon from memory? Can YOU draw a perfect circle with your HAND?
fiabeans Now that you mention this, back when I was going through depression my art was so terrible, yet now that I'm doing better (emotionally, though I don't know how long that'll last) I do better at art.
Eh to be honest my art ideas and execution got way better once I went through an emotional crisis, it gave me the inspiration to start again on it as a way to express that anguish. But obviously I'm not going to stop now even if I feel better, just saying it inspired me
Artist: *draws a character with big boobs and curves* Angry people: OML YOU FUKIN PERVVVV!!!!!1!1!!1 HOW DARE U DREW A GIRL WITH BIG BUBS!!! Artist: what
chocolate coffee THANK YOU IM NOT THE ONLY ONE one day i was drawing a girl in class because we had free time. Everyone was drawing what they wanted. Anyway, I did her hair and face first, and these girls looked over and went "EWWW she's naked!" And at first I was understanding, "oh, im not done, here.." So I added a sweater and boots. I decided to have her wear jeggings, which from her position, wouldnt have many folds. So i finish this sketch, no coloring or outline, and show them. AND THESE FREAKING GIRLS WENT "she still looks naked.." Pointing to her pants. I colored in her pants with the pencil, showing it AGAIN. "She still looks-" i just stood, looking over at their drawing "YOUR STICK FIGURE IS NAKED" and walked over to my friends. SORRY i had to get that out because i hate it when people do that to SUCH an extent. -_-
Me: **sketching in class** Classmate: You drew that?! Me: **looks at sketch while still sketching** **throws sketchbook** Hell nah! Where tf did this come from?!
One thing that seriously bothers me (is not a stereotype though) is when people constantly ask to see my art, but keep asking after I say no once. It's not inappropriate, it's just very personal to me, I don't share that stuff with people. If you keep asking, my response will continue to get harsher. Also, DON'T LOOK THROUGH SOMEONES SKETCHBOOK WITHOUT PERMISSION. You have no idea how many times someone has snatched my sketchbook and flipped through it without me knowing, and then returning it to me a few minutes later saying "oh wow you're really good!" like I can't even accept your compliment. Please don't do that ever ever.
Sabrina It’s the same for me ! My friend asked me if she can look at my sketchbook, who is so fucking ugly. I said no because omg my draws were so ugly. She stole my sketchbook and looked my draws. I thinks it’s very disrespectful for the artist... (I speak french so don’t judge my bad english x))
More stereotypes: •you will draw them if they ask you. It doesn't work that way. No •all anatomy sketches without clothes are porn. •they are free to take and look at your personal sketch book at all times
COMPLETELY TRUE! I have a trick that works every time. Just report them for harassing you, taking your personal items, and accusing you. Hope this helps. :) btw this was a joke.
A stereotype that I see often from ignorant students in my school is that all artists have to master hyper realism and that they only draw still life or portraits of themselves. Like yeah, we have to practice realism, but after we learn it we bend it to make it fun, and it's still art.
I don't think it's ignorant, i think it's the fact that the teachers try to mostly push onto their students to do realism so it can help them in the longrun but the students can convert it into "always be like 4chan's /IC Board"( or however the hell you call it )
absolute garbage Same, I mainly see this stereotype on TV or when people see my art. That artist are these people who paint scenery and portraits and are super passionate about starry night. When in reality MOST (not all) artist are in the pop art era, drawing anime on tablets
Kanis Agreed. One time a little girl asked me to draw a dolphin. I drew a chibi one. She complained saying it's not very realistic. What do you expect me to do on the spot without a reference?
artists like michaelangelo were hugely successful while they were alive. dude got commissioned to paint the sistine chapel u should see how much money it was after inflation.
Stereotype: artists are super imaginative and able to draw stuff Reality: ideas are HARD and I can NEVER EVER EVERRR get my idea on paper!!! It comes out wrong
One thing that annoys me, is when someone asks "who's that?" And I have to tell them that its just a random girl or something. "No but like what's her name?" They would say. This has only happened like once, but it was annoying lol
Or, when you draw an oc and someone asks who it is like it’s a real person. Just because you’re drawing doesn’t mean the person you’re drawing has to be a real person.
Man, that's relatable, I have a few ocs that I draw constantly and my friends are like "yOu DrAw ThEm aLl ThE tImE wHo ArE tHeY aRe ThEy YoUrE fRiEnDs?!" JESUS THEY DONT EXIST KID.
I sometimes have what I call "art rushes" , in these moments I can draw kinda good, when this is over I can't draw at all ... Does anyone else have this too
"Woah, you're so talented, I could never draw so well!" "YEAH BECAUSE I'VE BEEN DRAWING SINCE I WAS 10. IF YOU START NOW, IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, YOU'LL BE GREAT."
@@fakecubed People put themselves down because they haven't had the amount of progress as others have. That's unfair, because with the same amount of work and effort, you can get similar or even better
Grasboompje you’re taking it too literally, and if they really were going to get good at art they would be self-motivating already enough to do that work. Not everyone cares enough to become an artist themselves, but they do appreciate the work of others, and want to acknowledge that hard work by compliments of this nature.
A few more stereotypes: •When you draw gore you're immediately "an emo and need Jesus in your life" •All artists are introverts •When you draw sketches with no clothes or face or anything it's immediately porn •That they're willing to draw anything for free because you're their friend. Yeah. No.
I once was drawing something gruesome on one lesson (Religion lesson, because buck that) and one girls saw this and screamed "OH MY GOD, SHE'S DRAWING HELLISH THINGS!! YOU'RE GONNA BURN IN HELL FOR THIS!!!" and I look at her and go "Welp, I'll be happy to go to hell for that and meet other artists who drew things like that. I can't wait to meet Michel Angelo" and she just looked at me with a weird stare, not knowing what I meant. I am an introvert and all my artist friends are also introverts. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was in extroverted artist. Yeah, I got that once. Once, I was drawing a rather curvy girl, and one guy came up, when I wasn't even done and started going "Where are her eyes? Where are her hands? Where are her clothes? Are you drawing some messed up kinky porn?". By them I wanted to rip my drawing to shreds. Well... I kinda do that... But it's probably because I don't expect people to pay much for my art ^^' And maybe because I'm also too kind... ._.
Ikr? I myself am personally an extrovert/semi-ambivert (because I sure as heck ain't an introvert) and I draw free pictures for people just because it makes me happy, not because they're my friends.
KweenKitKat I'm an introvert, i don't sell art yet because my self-esteem never goes up and I only show my drawings to friends. I consider myself to be a great critic to, well... me, so I don't feel the need to ask a lot of people if my art is good.
I dont sell or commission art but i hate when the popular girly girls at school try to weasel into my life or try to get in my face and claim im their best friend and then try to take control of my art life because "but im your bestie and you should draw pictures for me because i cant draw a circle ;-;" bish, fak off.
Another stereotype is that every artist have the same skill level. It's not like a baby can draw the Mona Lisa. Like this boy in my high school when we have spare time when it is the last seven minutes he'll go up to the art kids who take animation (Which is my last class) and say something like "Draw me" to more than one person. And they draw him. (Or something like a pug) He compares them and is like "Hmm really you guys can't draw why are you in art!" I get ticked off and ugh it is annoying
When I was in second grade I ripped off a corner of my paper and drew a pretty good looking eye on it. I was impressed with myself and showed my friend, and she just said "you didn't draw that. You found it." It took took the whole class to convince her that I drew it. I just wanted to share this story lol
Red Cr0w Or the pain (for IG traditional artists?that's what ppl call it) the pain of sitting at a desk/ and or table drawing and erasing.Which also comes with hand/wrist pains.
I think there's a stereotype that artists have a lot of free time, or they can make art really easily. I guess it all just depends on how quickly people can make art that they are proud of
true i used to draw randomly and my art would come out looking great and then one of my classmates would kidnap my sketchbook flip through it and ask me to draw something for them(paying me of course) and then i would literally forget how to draw because my hand is a jerk lol
my dad asked me yesterday "not to be rude but dont you want to do an actual career and have art as a passion?" and i replied with "I would rather do something i love and that im passionet (idk how to spell either XD) about than doing a job which i dread to do every morning" My brother also told me "Im going to be an engineer, I help society and what you do is just draw how is that going to help anyone? imagine being stranded on an island what are you gonna do? draw? oh wow so helpful, do it as a passion not as a career!" my mom is the only one supporting me with my decision to be an artist because she kinda was one two and she is the most amazing mom in the world
There are over 7 Billion people in the world and your brother is saying that? Does he know that there are over 50,000 engineers already? Maybe even over a million You can help with art by selling it and donate to a homeless shelter, and you can retrace your steps in that stranded island to make a map and sketch the island to tell future people that it looked like that a long time ago. Artist don’t only draw anime neko girls all day. Show your brother this reply so that he’ll understand.
A stereo type that I see a lot that really annoys me and also doesn't make sense is, "Every artist is depressed and they draw to cheer themselves up." Well, some artists may be like this, but I mean SOME people may wear blue and be sad and wear yellow and be happy, vise versa, doesn't make sense? Exactly. I think we just really need to get out there that artists create art because that is what they choose to do, not because they're ALWAYS venting or ALWAYS depressed and cheering themselves up. I think this is a really messed up assumption and that also might be why some parents are scared for their children going to art school or getting really into art.
As an artist who has depression that makes me mad because depression makes it a LOT HARDER for me to draw not a lot easier. I wish I could motivate myself to draw more.
They've told me that before, and i am kinda depressed because of personal matters but i dont vent all the time, and i dont wear dark colors, i try to wear yellows, reds, and vibrant colors.
I’m a teen artist and when she was talking about the whole stereotype about artists being on drugs but instead playing D&D and watching cartoons... why does she have to be so accurate? 🤣
Yeah there's also the "All artists have mental illness" stereotype and "They get their creativity from it" which is honestly pretty problematic as my experience being in a healthy state of mind get creativity flowing and shit done. Then there's also the "all artists are gay" which ... yeah I personally can't argue against because I am a gay artist but I am constantly surrounded by straight artists.
Yea this really bothers me, once my friend (who has dyslexia) said she was more creative than me cause "*I have a mental illness and you don't*" like I have anxiety tho
beccatron 😂 It’s funny tho because da Vinci and Michelangelo were hecka gay and made masterpieces. I’m sure there’s more. Not all but a lot of gay artists are really good.
*No, art is not done selfishly* We have a live example here... Haley herself. By doing art, she has made countless lives better. Hasn't she? She made us feel better every time and improved our art and inspired us. She gave us tips, something to laugh about. She improved our views and she made life fun. Now tell me... Is that selfish?
Yep, i do it without noticing! I feel like I automatically try to bond with the character or something. Its like an instinct to do it lol. I also do it while im listening to music and think of my characters as in a music vid and then sometimes i make faces. OwO
I was in my grade 6 class, and we were studying drugs. One of them said a side affect "will increase creatively." Someone asked the teacher how that works. She said "like if you're an artist, you might get inspired to do something." I swear, like, 5 heads turned to me.
I think I know why some people think artists are poor. Because art supplies is so friggin expensive. Like you walk into the store one day, buy a single marker and the cashier's like: "That'll be a hundred thousand dollars, please."
*drawing an elf and has snow white hair* My cousins : Is that you?? Me: oh yes! That’s me! I have white hair, and I’m an elf! So yes, that’s me. Me in the inside: *this is the 10th time this week... I’m gonna kill someone-*
Psycho the Alex actually caffeine is not a drug but it is a gateway drug. Gateway drugs are not drugs but it can be very addictive which can lead to using actually drugs like marijuana, meth, ect.
just had a funny experience, i got asked why i was drawing, and i said: oh well, that´s my job and i have to finish this for tomorrow. And the girl said: so...you are going to CHARGE me for a drawing? i just said yes, she said it was expensive, typical thing, ok... But after i finished my drawing (she saw the whole process) she said... oh...could you do one of my dog?, i´ll pay you xD
I actually want to see that square- shapes are simple yet fun (I mean like REALLY simple shapes, you can literally color them any way you'd like and you've got a pretty nice drawing)
I used to have people come up and ask if I Drew something while I am clearly still working on drawing it at the time of question . Anyone else ever have this happen ?
Ashley I drew fish in 3rd grade on my math work and bullies claimed I had it printed and or traced when I had literally no access to electronics lol Then there are times when my family claims my work is copied or off websites 🙄
Whenever I say my friends and I do art people would automatically think we're some sort of bob ross all in touch with nature oh so peaceful when in fact most artists I know don't even like going outside at all
Thank you for talking about the art poverty thing. I'm seriously thinking into making art my job, and that sterotype really, really freaked me out. I'm okay now :)
Eliza hamilton, I feel you even though I am in 5th grade ab to go to sixth. Also a lot of people think I'm drawing porn just because I haven't finished the actual piece. Eventually at some point in your life if you go art school or just love to do art in general you will have to learn how to draw anatomy by watching. Well naked people. It's a normal thing not that I do that but some people do have to do that, so if you are going to walk up to me drawing people don't think I'm drawing porn. It's annoying and go away if you re going to say that to me lol
@@idontactlikethisanymoreyal6577 yea it's pretty annoying even though I don't draw people I draw animals instead but when I put down the basic guidelines they're like "Why are u just drawing shapes?" and it's the same goD DAMNED PEOPLE EVERY TIME LIKE bruh please just LEARN and especially in my AFJROTC class (I plan to join the military after high school) I get made fun of so much for drawing like a couple of guys called me a furry and I was like "Ok..? and am I supposed to be offended? So what if I am one? Just cause I specialize in animals doesn't mean I'm a furry" doesn't help that i have general anxiety disorder so these confrontations that I get make me incredibly nervous and they're just standing there like "y u sweating so much u good?" but yea. There's gonna be nice people and mean people. Ever since quarantine started, I've been experimenting with a whole bunch of new mediums, my favorites being acrylic and oil paints I even made a painting for my crush and gave it to him on his birthday
Well the second one is understandable but there are some limits, art is not only about anime (even thought I do mostly that) so yeah I get why this situation can annoy you. I had one friend who is sometimes a rude person to me and my other friends telling us (me and my group of friend who are boys) that "anime isn't real and the girls in it too", I mean yeah we like anime, but we know it's not real like wtf was she trying to tell us? Did she really thought she was making us learn something ? And days after that stupid comment about anime (knowing that I draw only in that style) she asked me at lunch in front of all our friends to draw her in anime style (I don't want to be rude to her but I don't like her look btw and I don't want to do it for free) I flat out said "no" and she got akward for the rest of lunch. *it happened during my first year of college* And if she is going to make stupid comments "reminding us" that anime girls aren't real then she shouldn't ask me to draw her in anime style with such enjoyement without me judging a little bit her IQ because she annoyed us good times with her BS.
I generally don't like art classes.. They say working with other people inspires you to work harder, but it's the opposite for me.. I know I know, I need to get over it, but seeing better artists then me just brings me down.. I know, there will always be people who are better artists then me. But I perder to work alone, I enjoy art, but working with people in art discourages me. (One last irrelevant thing) since I don't have much confidence in my art abilities. I am IN FURY when people snatch my sketchbook. It's my personal property. Thats like seeing somebody on their phone, snatching it from a COMPLETE STRANGER to see what they're doing.. 😡😠
I was drawing once, and this lady behind me went "oh, that looks super relaxing!!" n o. Art is nOt rElaXiNg iT iS a hEllHole oF shAky lInes aNd miSmatChed eyES
In a way that hellholr is kinda relaxing for me. When I draw my whole attention goes to what I'm doing, so my concerns, my problems, my insecurities just disappear. Nothing remains but my fight against that sheet of paper and that goddamn trouble I have with hands!
I hate it when I'm sitting in class just doodling, then mister hurp da derp comes in and says,"Hey did you draw that?" Me: "yeah." "Can you draw MMEEEEEE???" Internally:" do I look like I wanna do that?"
Specular Design Another thing. Person: Hey did you draw that? Me: Well NOOOOOO I was just holding it for my friend and moving my pencil across the paper! Person: ... You didn't have to be so rude... Me: *throws notebook at the wall and leaves*
whenever i actually am feeling semi-depressed and choose to draw them so they dont bug me, they keep on asking why i keep on looking at them like, IM TRYING TO GET A REFERENCE OF YOUR FACE
I just had an argument with a friend about this because he doesn't see art as a real job. I think it comes from the fact that they think you just sit relaxing in front of your computer for couple of hours and that's it instead of working hard,it can be especially annoying to argue with people about it, because as someone who's trying to become a professional but who's not earning any money (yet) it's frustrating to have people put down the years of effort you put into your art. I try to posts videos every week and I make lengthy tutorials so having some of my friends not understand that I have a deadline and cannot hang out sometimes pisses me off. Usually people just say to you "oh but you can just draw after that" without understanding that I spend my whole week, sitting on on computer drawing and editing and as soon as I finish one work/video I start the next one right away.
Yep, they don't understand that to become professional artist it takes years of practice and dedication. Unlike most other jobs doing art as your job is measured mostly by your drawing and marketing skills, especially if you want to become a freelancer, there's no one to just lift you up to the professional world. Also thank you I really appreciate that ^_^
me: **doodling in class** classmate: that's really cute! can you draw me? me: i mean, i guess so. classmate: ok. so i want you to draw me with cat ears and bright pink hair in long hatsune miku ponytails. make me thinner and slightly taller. me: (this girl has short brown hair, is 5' 3'', and is perfectly thin.) um... sorry. can't do that. classmate: what kind of artist are you? (this is an actual true story. not lying. this kind of crap actually happens in my school)
Morgan Aru I charge $2 for my fully colored and shaded traditional commissions and someone at my school told me that was “too much” like hunny, if you think that’s too much check out my digital commissions
@@imanireo bruh 2$ is so low, u need to put the cost of materials, time it takes u to complete it, etc. Not gonna lie if i found an artist in my high school who sold traditional pieces for 2$ id totally commission em
The one thing I hate it when people hear that you're an artist and then have you draw something even if it's something you don't know anything about, and then when it turns out "bad" or you get personal art done before then, or you don't get it done in a little time frame, they yell at you?? And??
@@nikofluff7122 honestly, i've seen some of his paintings and they're not really that bad aside from a few perspective issues. Just stay away from all the dictator and genocide stuff and you'll be good 👍
Exactly why I limit my art to the things that I can draw and only those, smh. I'm not even able to draw freely without someone, something breathing down my neck, criticizing every stroke of my pencil.
My friends always steal my notebook and try to look through it. One time this girl was looking through the WORST part of it I took it back and I'm like "no don't look at that part it's so bad" she took it back and ran off again. And then another friend did the same. I didn't talk to her the rest of the day. I almost cried. Nobody respects me..
Maybe you should have a handbag to put the notebook in! Handbags are usually hard to reach in or steal(Its hard to steal if you always have a good grip on the hand part when you have it on your shoulder) Some handbags even have a lock on it with a code or you have to have a pair of keys. I hope this helped!
The most annoying thing when you can draw: CAN U DRAW ME PLSSSSS like dude: i dont use refrences. I draw MADE UP things pls go away Edit: i use references now thanks for the tips aswell!
If you're ever asked to do something you don't particularly want to do, quote a price to make them go away. It should be high enough that if anyone ever does want to pay it, it might actually be worth it to you, and if they're really willing to pay it then your high price is actually a reasonable price and that says something about your value. It's win-win. If you find you're getting more requests from people actually willing to pay your high quote than you can (or want to) handle, raise that quote until you get a number of clients that you are okay with. I know people who have launched very successful side-gigs doing this method, and they were shocked at just what their value really was to other people. Just be sure to get paid up front.
9:55 there are a lot of ways art is involved with things that “help society” too, art is part of so many different things! you can have jobs like police sketch artist, art therapist, courtroom sketch artist, etc! it’s very cool to see the wide variety of art jobs that most people don’t know about :)
When I went to therapy (before Corona) I would draw stuff there and I made stuff for my dog, it was cool. Never helped me get better since I didn’t even know what I was there for my parents just keep bringing me to therapy for no reason, but yeah idk it’s better then school and I got to skip school or half the day on the days I went so meh
no dude society eats, sleeps n breathes actual artwork. everyone is addicted to tv, the internet, phones, the world arnd them, u know how much of that artists r responsible for? nobody would have cartoons, tv shows would be fucking awful, product design would be white labels with black times new roman letters n thats it artists designed every car, sets in movies, clothes, cartoons, album artwork for music, prolly every website u use, all the art everyone looks at, even if they dont know it lots of architecture is designed by artists, i mean artists also literally design products n parts for stuff. not just artists but it runs deep thru fucking everything. tons of things in movies, i mean ppl design all those monsters, its all art. concept artists etc. everything in video games even the ui. artists r literally one of the most necessary jobs n there r *tons* of different types n yeah im talking abt visual 2d artists. if u wanna widen the definition of artists, to like, music, acting, all housing n innovation oh yeah n i didnt even get into the ideas that come FROM art thatve brought society *tons* of things. i mean art is responsible for so much culture, expression, forward thought, social change, yeah 2d visual art. like, drawing. painting. etc. n thats not even counting the fact that tons of ppl just love looking at it, n tons of ppl feel less alone, etc. etc. etc seriously its right up there with doctors. life would be shit without it. its literally paramount to almost everything that even exists to us, at some point or another. half the things that give any given person any amt of joy, involve a huge amt of art. n society should want them to be paid better, incentivized more, have an easier time getting careers, etc. cuz u want the ppl in those places to do as good of a job as possible. u dont want it to be difficult for an unknown super skilled artist to design a creature for ur new favorite movie. some of the most legendary movies have literally been built arnd a monster design from an artist. who do u think did all the creatures for star wars? the arts in general r insanely paramount to every single person to such an extreme extent, n nobody even rly realizes how true that is.
Some random person: “Oh, you can tell someone is an artist if they dress really weird. You know, like they stand out.” Me: *A music nerd/drawer/writer/introvert that wears the same grey sweatshirt all the time, a t-shirt, black leggings, and black fuzzy boots.* “Yeah, totally” (Fun Fact: my family jokes that this is my “uniform” since it’s what I wear almost year-round until summer. They even tell me that I need to expand my wardrobe. The thing is, if I wasn’t so lazy and focused on my art and school, then I would wear more interesting clothes. But I am lazy, not just to put interesting clothes on, like dresses and skirts for example, but wearing them through the day. Also, my “uniform” makes me blend in so much that people leave me alone: introvert tip there 😎)
Same with "uniform" , gray and dark-blue hoodies without prints or etc,T-shirts also "nothing special there", same jeans that i wear between -35° and +20° in celcius.
Another one is that artists are like "super goths" and only draw depressing pictures and while that is the case for some that doesn't mean all artists draw that stuff. I could from drawing a picture with dark and gloomy colors to a turtle saying "Cheese" in a second.
I just *LOVE* when a student comes up to me and says something along the lines of "You can do it, right? You're an artist, so you can do it." They assume artists can do everything .-. Such as: (Me trying to sculpt with foil) Student: ya, (my name) can do it so easily! She's an artist, anyway so she obviously can! (Me doing math with another student) Them: You must be perfect at math, you're an artist so I mean why wouldn't you?! Hahaha! *like boi u must be on crack*
A lot of these stereotypes are what make me not want to tell people that I consider drawing a hobby, especially since they think I basically make quick, easymoney by doing comissions, since I am relatively good at drawing, they assume that I always find it fun and easy. I find it really frustrating, seeing as it can be just as hard as any other job
Duntem Draws Even if you don't have the nerves to be a surgeon, you should still respect the fact that being a surgeon is much more demanding than being an artist.
i have something i call an "art-inspiration-streak" in which i would be able to draw stuff continuously, but other than that, *thats it, no more art till thenext one comes*
My stereotypes are: 1. Artists are selfish if they don’t give free art. (Artists work super hard on their work! Also, if you ask for a commission from them, it’s obvious that you like their work a lot! So, it’s not like it would be super horrible art. It’s like going to a expensive restaurant (even though the art isn’t that expensive,) and ask for free food! It’s super rude and please don’t think this.) 2. Artists are all very introverted. (This is not true, not all artists are introverted, I’m more on the introverted side, but it’s about 71% introvert and 29% extrovert.) 3. If a drawing has a little bit of gore in it, the artist who drew it are emo and super edgy. (I feel like I don’t even need to explain.) I have a lot more, but this is all I’ll type.
I agree with the second and third one, the first one nobody ever thinks about me lol, but yeah I don’t have many friends who I actually hang out with, so when people see me drawing they think I’m introverted, and I’m not. I’m extroverted with all my friends I’m just quiet lol. Also I’m not edgy or emo or depressed or anything, I just like drawing gore, and like horror and stuff :/
1. If you don't want to pay for someone who's WILLINGLY making art for you though they don't have to, YOU are the selfish person. 2. Not all artists are, some are really outgoing! But I'm 89% introverted and 11% extroverted. I like talking to friends but if I can get any excuse not to go anywhere I will use that excuse. 3. aaaAAAAAHHH I hate this stereotype. Like, WHY do people assume that?
I'm a little bit of number three except I just draw creepy things and everyone's just like: "aRe yOu oK? d0 yoU NEeD hElp?" *I'm lucky that my art teacher is a fan of horror.*
I’m what’s called a shy extrovert. I love social interaction and thrive on people but am very awkward and don’t like meeting new people or starting conversations with people who I don’t know that well.
*I hate situations like this* Me: all Right! Time to draw a cute Eevee or something! *Some time later* *Is holding a cat photo for everyone to see* Some boy: did you make that? Me: well ye- The boy: I will need proof shots, your signature, and the program/item that you used Me: ....... YOU SAW ME DRAW IT!!!
Oh my God yes I drew something digitally, printed it out for homework, then a boy just walks up to me and says this: "I bet you just searched that up cause there's no way you drew that" *It literally says my signature boi. Can you not read now?*
There was once a kid in my Pre-Algebra class in 6th grade that asked me if I was tracing. . . . I drew a dragon on the desk with a white board marker . . .
lol happened to me. I got a lower score for my perfectly immaculate drawing and some classmate who had shit art work got a perfect score. "Abstract" they say. Christ, teach.
the one I hate is that any time Someone draws anything sad or gory that your depressd Edit: or in some cases a psycho some people just like to draw gore
I love drawing gore, monsters, or magical beings...then people think I got from Tim Burton or Jhonen Vazquez, but the thing is that I draw what I see, imagine, or get inspired by the things that I love.
Ugh, the worst one for me is when artists are automatically assumed to draw anime/manga Like, can't I draw realistic? Comics? Chibi!!?? My aunt saw two of my old drawings, saw it was manga and bought me a book all about manga My new style is realistic (kinda)
My cousin assumed that i drew anime because i watch it. He always says that in art and im always yelling: BeInG a CaRtOoNiSt DoEsNt MeAn I dRaW aNiMe YoU uNcUlTuReD sWiNe
I've had people look at drawings and go... Them: that looks weird? Why does it look like that? Me: it's not finishe- Them:Is it D0nE Me: no.... Them: YOU SHOULD DO THIS! * Points at my drawing and gives me examples* Me: *regretting everything* Legit, my drawings obviously not done, chill ;^;
i think a stereotype is that artists are *only* artists, who spend their time inside and just draw. drawing does take up a lot of time and i do it a lot, but i still love theatre a lot
Yep, I tend to draw a lot more but I also love to learn about science and history. Sometimes I listen to podcasts or Ted-ED videos for background noise.
Me: I like to draw Parents: You're going to be an artist?! Me: No, I just like to draw. Parents: ???Nous ne comprenons pas??? Me: _What do you not understand about hobbies_
....Actually, if you do any kind of artwork (music, writing, drawing), then you are an artist, because an artist makes art. I get what you meant though.
One thing I've noticed is that people think artists will draw for free, or for very little. (e.g. "exposure") Some kid in my class wanted me to do artwork for his game. He was planning on paying me fifty cents. For an entire game's worth of artwork, he wanted to give me less than a dollar. He got really offended when I told him that was not enough.
KhOrganization Yeah, I didn't even want to work with him to be honest, because he's rude. I proposed $30 per fully-rendered still image, and $10 per completed frame of animation, not including still frames. Of course, he refused my offer and decided to make the art himself. He didn't realise he needed funds to make a game, rather than just pocket change.
ViolinFruit exactly lmao its not easy making a game. It takes years(atleast if you're trying to make something "decent" or "good") and especially money. If you want help from other people, collaboration is needed, you need to work as a team if you're working with other people. Even a simple looking game costs funds to make
CactusClovers Yeah, he was making it with the assumption he would be greenlit on Steam. I don't actually know that much about making games, but I know it'd be unlikely for someone his age (at the time, he was around 12-13) to make a successful game. He had no funds, no help, no demand, and given how he's still in school, probably not a lot of time.
Slinky Plays I wanna start commissions as well, but I don't actually have the means to do so. (I just do simple requests for now.) The only reason I really wanted payment on something like this was because of the sheer size of it. An entire game of art sounds daunting for only one person.
My mom once said that just selling art is gunna make me poor. Here's my response: *OH SO YOU HAVENT HEARD OF PICASSO WHICH SOLD FOR BILLOINS DEAR MOTHER!?*
Pufni Same. My grandma's telling people that I'm gonna become a doctor and take care of her when I get older. I'll still take care of her and all, but....I want to continue being an artist
Birb mine say that too, but then they start saying that its takimg over my life and I need to stop but like I have no friends what else am I supposed to do???
Birb My mom supports me intensely in literally everything I do. If I show a vague interest in, swimming perhaps, she'll have signed me up for lessons the next day and purchased me three different swimsuits.
Not to rain on your parade, but please don't go to art school. It is a waste of money and time. You probably won't ever get hired to work for Disney or Pixar because the system is so tight and restrained for the very best. Trust me on this, don't ever give up on your art path, but please don't expect to end up at the biggest Animation company of all time. I have experience with this. Even my Animation Professor of many years couldn't get a job there. The best thing to do is get a degree in something that you can enjoy and make a secure income with, (Like Nursing, Health, Dentistry, etc) while still working on your art. That way you have a backup job that you'll never worry about losing. I'm almost 30, and have Student loans up the yin-yang from Art School at AIP. PLEASE do not make the same mistakes me and many other artists I know have made. All the best. Please never stop drawing!
(not a stereotype) I don't like it when my classmates or friends steal my sketchbook and just draw weird things on my anatomy drawings, they think I like adult videos >:V
Bruhh I hate your classmates, you can't just invade someones personal stuff and RUIN IT, LIKE DRAWING AIN'T THAT EASY, if my classmates do I'm gonna fking pull their hair until it hurts or even fking fight them
Oh yeah, they also shouted that I was drawing porn (I was making a sketch) in the middle of the gym with 100+ eighth graders in it, that was a situation for an introverted person, apparently my friend didn't know I was so introverted because I talk to them.
I'm currently at a drawing camp for a week and I screwed up inking the nose after spending about an hour on the sketch and I just lay down on the floor and stared at the ceiling for a couple minutes. AGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
The worst one was that people kept asking me to draw them. Person: Oh you're so good at drawing! draw me! Me: well...I can't cuz I don't know yo- person: Come on just draw me! me: no, I can't. person: Ugh! WHY WON'T YOU DRAW ME?! me: no. Please stop askin- Person: OMFG YOU'RE SO MEAN. I DIDN'T WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND ANYWAY! me: ...ok....?
Easy, ask them to come closer so you can draw their face. Grab your pencil (I hope it's sharp!) then raise it up and stab it through there throat. You'll get arrested, but they won't ask you again. Because they're dead
There was this really talented girl and i kinda knew her but we didnt really hangout, but kids would always ask her to draw them something and whatever, but one day SHE asked me if she could draw me. I said yes uwu she was very nice
This happened to me a lot in middle school, man. People don't seem to understand that they can't just ask an artist to draw something for them. I mean, unless they're willing to pay for a commission.
There was this guy in my class and I was drawing, I draw big eyes like lavender and this one guy who was my friend but isnt for other reasons came up and was like YoU DrAw AniME and im just like no I dont and he refused to believe me.
I lost 10 pencils on vacation and I was so pissed because they were the onws with the different consistency graphite (HB, H2, B2 ect.) And I got them with a 20% off coupon at michels and now I have to pay full price
Me on some days: Wow, this drawing was really easy to do and it came out pretty nice! I barley had to erase! Me on most days: Welp Imma go cry in the corner till I pass out.
Not to be offensive to anyone, but I feel like if someone draws something awesome, but isn't famous, people will think is trash. On the other hand if you ARE famous, all you have to draw is a few squiggly lines, and it'll sell for millions. I mean, have you SEEN modern art?!
Some struggles: *draws an unfinished person sketch without clothes* Someone: IS THAT PORN See obviously they haven't drew clothes yet 2. Wow did you draw that? As if you couldn't tell if they where drawing. 3. Can you draw me Someone: sure bet you will have to pay A lot of people think that is rude to tell them that they have to pay, it's really not. Drawing isn't easy and you will work hard on it. There's some more but I can't think of them rn lol
actually, i never realized how lucky i am to be in this position. there are people pursuing art with absolutely no support along the way, and yet they have enough determination to keep going. dang.
Told my grandma I wanted to be an animator and she said, "Why don't you get a real job." Then I started ranting about anything being a "real job" as long as you make it one.
For the people who break it, just don't give them the art. (Or give them the bad ones.) For the people who steal it, put your signature on it in black ink (on a different color like magenta, so they cant just use white out and color over it.) You should charge people for it if you actually think its good.
I think on the drug stereotypes and how they got that is back in the 1900's some surreal artists did opioids and other drugs idk my art teacher said that when we were learning about surrealism
Uni Corn then dont call yourself in artist
Tf I know right
I'm more of a person who draws humans better than animals, and one guy asked me to draw a dog because he saw me draw my human OCS, but I failed and he said, "Lol I thought you were a good drawer"
for every 1 good drawing I draw I have a 100 very crappy doodles and sketches
Michelle & Richelle
**sigh** she's talking about people like you. Artists don't have to be good at every type of art.
Whenever I would say I do art people would automatically assume I'm really in touch with nature for some reason. Like they think I'm supposed to act like some female Bob Ross. I've painted a lot more angry cloud's than happy trees
All Hail.
Aleeya YellowBird I know her voice I so relaxing! I can just imagine her painting some happy little narutos
i drew a stick figure bob ross in maths and my teacher stapled it to the wall
it's still there
Aleeya YellowBird sameeee my mom shows me a sunset picture and im like: ok..? Then my mom goes crazy like: WHAT IS OK?! WHAT KIND OF ART STUDENT WOULD SAY THAT?! You have no interest about good things.
...Mom, what is wrong with you
happy trees
Another thing is like, when people hear the word “artist” they just think of realism. Like, they think the only types of true artists are realism artists, when it takes many, many years to get to that style. Most artists don’t even want to draw realism. There’s semi-realism, cubism, abstract, comical, so on, so forth.
Elodie Forsans I don’t like drawing realistically even though I can, it just doesn’t feel right for me.
Ik! I consider myself a halfway artist cause I can draw anime really well but I only have like 2 finished drawings because I'm lazy and not too mention i somehow manage to draw well but I NEVER do sketches. I guess you could call me a lazy hobby artist.
I am an intense cartoon artist
realistic art is not hard.
it's just boring af.
I try to draw like that but I'm bad at it so I just keep on trying and I gave up on it so I said 'maybe I will try something new'
Me trying to draw something new and I try and try and try but I CAN'T GET IT and so I said 'why do I keep trying I'm bad at this...'
And one day I saw this one painting that said 'don't give up and keep on trying and you'll get it keep on trying' And it was like I was a new
Hooman UwU
Public think: Artists are so creative!
* Sees creative art made by an artist: *
"Wow, the only way anyone could have thought of this is through mind-altering, hallucinogenic drugs!"
Pick a lane.
@Absworthy Warrington if they were talking about panty and stocking, it would make sense since the writers were drunk while writing.
**silently cries in fanart**
@@ariayeetsu yeah! Mine comes from boredom with normal stuff and ADHD. I just like trippy mushrooms and bright colors
"Omg why did you draw him naked ??? You draw porn ???"
No it's for the anatomy...I will add clothes later but I need to sketch the body first so the drawing doesn't look weird...
uGH THAT'S SO ANNOYINGGGG
yeah, people think I'm drawing weird stuff or aliens when I draw the body first. if I don't do a sketch of the body first the anatomy and proportions are all messed up
I actually do draw porn so all my friends assume that's what my sketches are lmao
I WAS 11...
I agree so annoying
*sketches anatomically correct arm*
*inks noodle arm*
Never change Haley.
This stood out to me too, haha
Liz M I love you too dear
I noticed that!
XD
Jaded Asshole very true, even more extremely touching:'3
One common misconception is that as soon as someone hears that you draw, they assume you can draw anything. Like I draw mainly people but dont know JACK SHIT about patterns. Its like asking an abstract artist to draw a hyper realistic piece of artwork its just not their thing
Wendaddys forehead this!!!
I know right! I'm best with animals and whenever someone finds that I can draw they're like "can you draw me?" and I'm like "heh, no, I'm not good with people (both drawing & socially)."
Wendaddys forehead same.. I only draw toonish angsty teenagers lool
And these substitute teachers keeps asking me to draw them realistic. Like ... Back in middle and highschool. Was just horrible for me to tell them no Idk how to do realistic. :C
Wendaddys forehead SO FUCKING TRUEEEEEE
Wendaddys forehead I've never been asked too much to draw realism and I'm glad cause I can only draw cartoons.
Hearing what other people had to go through with their parents is sad, it makes me really glad that my parents are really supportive.
Table man same.
True true true. My parents bought me a XP-PEN E22 for my b-day and I can't be more happy.
TokutskeStudies a what-?!
Then consider yourself a lucky person

One stereotype I hate is when people say you are not a real artist when you use stencils or references. Like okay can YOU draw every single Pokemon from memory? Can YOU draw a perfect circle with your HAND?
Spicy Gaming I use references all the time, oof
I hate when people are like ah abstract art isn’t real art
yes. please pat me on the back for being able to draw a perfect circle by hand.
abstraction is okay ( in my opinion) but yeeting paint on a canvas feels lazy
DarkDragonAnimations reborn point taken
Theres one stereotype that's if you're a sad and depressed artist, your art is beautiful but in reality you just end up with crap.
fiabeans Now that you mention this, back when I was going through depression my art was so terrible, yet now that I'm doing better (emotionally, though I don't know how long that'll last) I do better at art.
More like u give everything daf up becoz ye know
Depression stuff
I was just thinking this tbh
Eh to be honest my art ideas and execution got way better once I went through an emotional crisis, it gave me the inspiration to start again on it as a way to express that anguish. But obviously I'm not going to stop now even if I feel better, just saying it inspired me
I saw a comic similar to this idea by Sarah Scribbles, do you know her?
I hate the stereotype that when someone is drawing a naked figure, or something slightly sexual (or very) they are a perv or porn obsessed
Artist: *draws a character with big boobs and curves*
Angry people: OML YOU FUKIN PERVVVV!!!!!1!1!!1 HOW DARE U DREW A GIRL WITH BIG BUBS!!!
Artist: what
Lalasweets Candy
True,in my opinion if you draw anyone sexually/naked I'm not judging you,go ahead
But if it's like,a child,then...what the hell
a child can be drawn naked. they run around naked all the time. (at least i did for most of my childhood) it's the pose you got to worry about.
they my classmates say i'm a perv because i'm still in the process of making the character !!!
chocolate coffee
THANK YOU
IM NOT THE ONLY ONE
one day i was drawing a girl in class because we had free time.
SORRY
i had to get that out because i hate it when people do that to SUCH an extent. -_-
Me: **sketching in class**
Classmate: You drew that?!
Me: **looks at sketch while still sketching** **throws sketchbook** Hell nah! Where tf did this come from?!
I want to do this one day
OMG I‘M SUBBING HAHAHAH THIS IS MY FAV COMMENT FROM THE WHOLE COMMENT SECTIONNN
Yup, it’s like they have nothing else to say!
Underrated comment!
broooo im doing this when the school year starts up again
I KNOW like people at school are like OOOOOH YOUR SKETCHBOOK LEMME ARE WE when it's probably like a drawing of Keith or Allura or Lance.
II Mestyria II I draw so much Keith its nuts. im pretty sure i have an entire sketchbook worth.
Monika Doki Doki
That's very sad, but it's cool because I also speak french!
Sabrina especially don't do that
There could be vent art which is very personal
More stereotypes:
•you will draw them if they ask you. It doesn't work that way. No
•all anatomy sketches without clothes are porn.
•they are free to take and look at your personal sketch book at all times
COMPLETELY TRUE! I have a trick that works every time. Just report them for harassing you, taking your personal items, and accusing you. Hope this helps. :)
btw this was a joke.
Bruh
My friends do the 1st one and the 3rd one ALL the time! "Hey aRi cAn U dRaW mE pLs"
Me: n o .
if you get asked to draw someone hit em with the okay that'll be $15, either you scare them off or you get $15
ohhhh i really hate this, this used to happen all the time it fucking sucked
A stereotype that I see often from ignorant students in my school is that all artists have to master hyper realism and that they only draw still life or portraits of themselves. Like yeah, we have to practice realism, but after we learn it we bend it to make it fun, and it's still art.
I don't think it's ignorant, i think it's the fact that the teachers try to mostly push onto their students to do realism so it can help them in the longrun but the students can convert it into "always be like 4chan's /IC Board"( or however the hell you call it )
":/" is cursed but yeah that's a "IC"
absolute garbage Same, I mainly see this stereotype on TV or when people see my art. That artist are these people who paint scenery and portraits and are super passionate about starry night. When in reality MOST (not all) artist are in the pop art era, drawing anime on tablets
I know that stereotype to well. I don't wanna do realism I just want to draw my cartoony style!
Kanis
Agreed. One time a little girl asked me to draw a dolphin. I drew a chibi one. She complained saying it's not very realistic.
What do you expect me to do on the spot without a reference?
one of the things I hear is “artists don’t become famous until they die” like okay Chelsea did I say I wanted to be the next da Vinci?
artists like michaelangelo were hugely successful while they were alive.
dude got commissioned to paint the sistine chapel u should see how much money it was after inflation.
You see mate. "Da vinci" does share a few letters with "artist". So y'know
YEA CHELSEA GET A LIFE
It isn't the 1800's shut yo butt off Chelsea😭💀💀
Somebody told it to me and it was so upsetting because almost no people care about my art
Stereotype: artists are super imaginative and able to draw stuff
Reality: ideas are HARD and I can NEVER EVER EVERRR get my idea on paper!!! It comes out wrong
3milee 2ran recording your ideas are hard to follow sometimes when you play it back
I frigging swear xD
3milee 2ran actually I have so many ideas mate
That moment when you usually draw digitally
3milee 2ran I can see it in mu head but my hand cant. It JUsT cANt
One thing that annoys me, is when someone asks "who's that?" And I have to tell them that its just a random girl or something. "No but like what's her name?" They would say. This has only happened like once, but it was annoying lol
@Scarlet Beaulieu its super annoying huh? Just get the dang hint that they don't got a name!
Or, when you draw an oc and someone asks who it is like it’s a real person. Just because you’re drawing doesn’t mean the person you’re drawing has to be a real person.
@@chickennuggetpaw1017 yeah that's super annoying to
UGH also, “iS ThAT yOu?” I like to draw dark haired people, and I have dark hair myself... so annoying
Does anyone else have this too
Delisceum yup
Delisceum yes yes yes
Delisceum yes absolutely.
This is me!
Couldn't get more relatable
"Woah, you're so talented, I could never draw so well!"
"YEAH BECAUSE I'VE BEEN DRAWING SINCE I WAS 10. IF YOU START NOW, IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, YOU'LL BE GREAT."
LOVE YOURSELF
"I can't even draw a stick figure"
UM YES YOU CAN YOU DON'T NEED TO SAY THAT YOU'RE LESS THAN YOU ARE JUST BECAUSE I CAN DrAW
Just accept the compliment. What's the problem?
@@fakecubed People put themselves down because they haven't had the amount of progress as others have. That's unfair, because with the same amount of work and effort, you can get similar or even better
Grasboompje you’re taking it too literally, and if they really were going to get good at art they would be self-motivating already enough to do that work. Not everyone cares enough to become an artist themselves, but they do appreciate the work of others, and want to acknowledge that hard work by compliments of this nature.
A few more stereotypes:
•When you draw gore you're immediately "an emo and need Jesus in your life"
•All artists are introverts
•When you draw sketches with no clothes or face or anything it's immediately porn
•That they're willing to draw anything for free because you're their friend. Yeah.
KweenKitKat
I'm an introvert, i don't sell art yet because my self-esteem never goes up and I only show my drawings to friends.

I think there's a stereotype that artists have a lot of free time, or they can make art really easily. I guess it all just depends on how quickly people can make art that they are proud of
Yessssssss!
TheMightyPancake
TBH sketching for an hour is enough for me. It's the coloring that gets tricky.
I make art really fast to the point that I make 6 drawings a day.
i have a lot of free time and i finish my drawings in about 3 mins
Some drawings take me longer than others.

My mom always says that
Wouldn't it get easier over time?
my dad asked me yesterday "not to be rude but dont you want to do an actual career and have art as a passion?"
and i replied with "I would rather do something i love and that im passionet (idk how to spell either XD) about than doing a job which i dread to do every morning"
My brother also told me "Im going to be an engineer, I help society and what you do is just draw how is that going to help anyone? imagine being stranded on an island what are you gonna do? draw? oh wow so helpful, do it as a passion not as a career!"
my mom is the only one supporting me with my decision to be an artist because she kinda was one two and she is the most amazing mom in the world
Well, artists inspire people almost everyday *_if not everyday._* Some art even save people. *sighs* _people. Goodness._
actually the 80% of work is a type of art....
There are over 7 Billion people in the world and your brother is saying that? Does he know that there are over 50,000 engineers already? Maybe even over a million
You can help with art by selling it and donate to a homeless shelter, and you can retrace your steps in that stranded island to make a map and sketch the island to tell future people that it looked like that a long time ago.
Artist don’t only draw anime neko girls all day.
Show your brother this reply so that he’ll understand.

Rubbish Wow, no offence but your father and brother have very fixed mindsets, I’m glad your mom is supporting you!
My favorite color is blue and I love drawing but I'm definitely not depressed
As an artist who has depression that makes me mad because depression makes it a LOT HARDER for me to draw not a lot easier. I wish I could motivate myself to draw more.
They've told me that before, and i am kinda depressed because of personal matters but i dont vent all the time, and i dont wear dark colors, i try to wear yellows, reds, and vibrant colors.
This, is me
Making mental sickness a personality is always annoying

Yeah there's also the "All artists have mental illness" stereotype and "They get their creativity from it" which is honestly pretty problematic as my experience being in a healthy state of mind get creativity flowing and shit done. Then there's also the "all artists are gay" which ... yeah I personally can't argue against because I am a gay artist but I am constantly surrounded by straight artists.
beccatron Well people say my art is good and i have ADHD soooooooooooo :/
Yea this really bothers me, once my friend (who has dyslexia) said she was more creative than me cause "*I have a mental illness and you don't*" like I have anxiety tho
beccatron 😂 It’s funny tho because da Vinci and Michelangelo were hecka gay and made masterpieces. I’m sure there’s more. Not all but a lot of gay artists are really good.

But... Why? Who decided that having a mental illness makes you an artist? HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE???
*No, art is not done selfishly*
We have a live example here... Haley herself. By doing art, she has made countless lives better. Hasn't she? She made us feel better every time and improved our art and inspired us.
@@idontactlikethisanymoreyal6577 yea it's pretty annoying even though I don't draw people I draw animals instead but when I put down the basic guidelines they're like "Why are u just drawing shapes?" and it's the same goD DAMNED PEOPLE EVERY TIME LIKE bruh please just LEARN
and especially in my AFJROTC class (I plan to join the military after high school) I get made fun of so much for drawing like a couple of guys called me a furry and I was like "Ok..? and am I supposed to be offended? So what if I am one? Just cause I specialize in animals doesn't mean I'm a furry"
doesn't help that i have general anxiety disorder so these confrontations that I get make me incredibly nervous and they're just standing there like "y u sweating so much u good?"

I even made a painting for my crush and gave it to him on his birthday
*it happened during my first year of college*
And if she is going to make stupid comments "reminding us" that anime girls aren't real then she shouldn't ask me to draw her in anime style with such enjoyement without me judging a little bit her IQ because she annoyed us good times with her BS.

Same I hate when people say that. I checked out your channel, you are really great at drawing!!!
Yep, they don't understand that to become professional artist it takes years of practice and dedication. Unlike most other jobs doing art as your job is measured mostly by your drawing and marketing skills, especially if you want to become a freelancer, there's no one to just lift you up to the professional world.

@@laraprobst6945😝
@Lara Probst nice idea, bro
Just be sure to get paid up front.

no dude society eats, sleeps n breathes actual artwork.
everyone is addicted to tv, the internet, phones, the world arnd them, u know how much of that artists r responsible for? nobody would have cartoons, tv shows would be fucking awful, product design would be white labels with black times new roman letters n thats it
artists designed every car, sets in movies, clothes, cartoons, album artwork for music, prolly every website u use, all the art everyone looks at, even if they dont know it
lots of architecture is designed by artists, i mean artists also literally design products n parts for stuff. not just artists but it runs deep thru fucking everything. tons of things in movies, i mean ppl design all those monsters, its all art. concept artists etc. everything in video games even the ui. artists r literally one of the most necessary jobs n there r *tons* of different types
n yeah im talking abt visual 2d artists. if u wanna widen the definition of artists, to like, music, acting, all housing n innovation
oh yeah n i didnt even get into the ideas that come FROM art thatve brought society *tons* of things. i mean art is responsible for so much culture, expression, forward thought, social change, yeah 2d visual art. like, drawing. painting. etc.
n thats not even counting the fact that tons of ppl just love looking at it, n tons of ppl feel less alone, etc. etc. etc seriously its right up there with doctors.
life would be shit without it. its literally paramount to almost everything that even exists to us, at some point or another. half the things that give any given person any amt of joy, involve a huge amt of art.
n society should want them to be paid better, incentivized more, have an easier time getting careers, etc. cuz u want the ppl in those places to do as good of a job as possible. u dont want it to be difficult for an unknown super skilled artist to design a creature for ur new favorite movie.
some of the most legendary movies have literally been built arnd a monster design from an artist. who do u think did all the creatures for star wars? the arts in general r insanely paramount to every single person to such an extreme extent, n nobody even rly realizes how true that is.

Such as:
(Me trying to sculpt with foil)
Student: ya, (my name) can do it so easily! She's an artist, anyway so she obviously can!
(Me doing math with another student)
Them: You must be perfect at math, you're an artist so I mean why wouldn't you?!

True i always starta really good drawing but then i somehow mess it up
Edith Star Pointer so true, like my outline really good but then it just go to shit
I don't know about you, but I think being a surgeon is harder than drawing for a living.
After all nobody's life depends on you drawing a picture.
Alexhander Handleton But again, not everyone has the nerves solid enough to be a surgeon. I don't.

Bro same.. I just draw loads and loads for like a week and then die for a month lmaoo
My stereotypes are:
1. It’s super rude and please don’t think this.)
2. Artists are all very introverted. (This is not true, not all artists are introverted, I’m more on the introverted side, but it’s about 71% introvert and 29% extrovert.)
3. If a drawing has a little bit of gore in it, the artist who drew it are emo and super edgy. (I feel like I don’t even need to explain.)
I have a lot more, but this is all I’ll type.
I'm a little bit of number three except I just draw creepy things and everyone's just like: "aRe yOu oK? d0 yoU NEeD hElp?"
*I'm lucky that my art teacher is a fan of horror.*
I’m what’s called a shy extrovert. I love social interaction and thrive on people but am very awkward and don’t like meeting new people or starting conversations with people who I don’t know that well.
I’m an artist and I’m 60% extroverted

the one I hate is that any time Someone draws anything sad or gory that your depressd
Edit: or in some cases a psycho some people just like to draw gore
I draw a lot of sad and gory art, and I'm depressed, but for God's sake not all of the weirdos like me aren't depressed.
I love drawing gore, monsters, or magical beings...then people think I got from Tim Burton or Jhonen Vazquez, but the thing is that I draw what I see, imagine, or get inspired by the things that I love.

Ugh, the worst one for me is when artists are automatically assumed to draw anime/manga

My new style is realistic (kinda)
Cartoony-realistic

....Actually, if you do any kind of artwork (music, writing, drawing), then you are an artist, because an artist makes art. I get what you meant though.
Me: *likes drawing*

Exactly
One thing I've noticed is that people think artists will draw for free, or for very little. (e.g. "exposure") Some kid in my class wanted me to do artwork for his game. He was planning on paying me fifty cents. For an entire game's worth of artwork, he wanted to give me less than a dollar. He got really offended when I told him that was not enough.
ViolinFruit wot. Is he crazy? XD. 50 cents doesn't afford anything. Even around $75 it maybe $100+ isn't enough for a game.
ViolinFruit
exactly lmao
its not easy making a game.

Should I charge people for my art? Cuz at school I give people my art for free and either they art steal it or it gets riped or it gets crumpled up
Unless you don't want to, you could just say no to them! That's the great thing about being an artist, you can say no for something like that
For the people who break it, just don't give them the art. (Or give them the bad ones.) For the people who steal it, put your signature on it in black ink (on a different color like magenta, so they cant just use white out and color over it.) You should charge people for it if you actually think its good.
