Having a voice on the internet is not like screaming into a void. It's like screaming into a crowd that's way over the room capacity where some people are pushing and shoving; some are robots, some have megaphones, some have surround sound microphones, and some just have a new thing that megaphone/microphones take interest in.
NANDU 7865 posts gain traction differently based on time posted(this is just one of the factors, of course having likable content is important too). This varies by website and applies most heavily towards Instagram and Reddit. Basically, if you post the same thing twice, changing only the time posted, you’re likely to get two different results(the one posted at a bad time may have 0 chance of blowing up, even if it’s good). Why timezone matters is that some people just happen to live in an area where peak posting times coincide with times they’d normally post anyway, while other people may have to post at 4 in the morning(in their timezone) to hit that peak time.
Oh yeah, true. I have trouble interacting with my fans because they’re mostly based in Indonesia so far and I have to stay up til six am if I want to meet them.
That‘s a really good tip. I‘ll try that on- *Realises I don‘t even have enough followers for Instagram to calculate my target audience‘s... well, anything.* Hm. Well, damn.
another tip: do some “draw this in your style” stuff!! some artists will re post the art to their story, and if they have a somewhat large following, people will see your art and if they like it they’ll even give you a follow :) ((ONLY re draw art if it’s a draw this in your style post, if it isn’t one, never do that))
Giulia R25 haha, try doing it with semi popular acc, one without too many followings so they still have a chance to see your art and one without too little do there’s more people who will see it. like between 10-50k followers (make sure to check if there’s a deadline, and it’s better to submit it sooner than later)
Yes, I 100% agree with this! A huge thing for me was not giving up. It took me 6 years to get to where I am. Consistency is key! Thanks for posting this! 🤠
SuperRaeDizzle SuperRaeDizzle id been trying for 6 years also, but gave up recently after a bad depressive moment(I'm medicated now) and closed down my old blog. I'm regretting it now intensely, and going to restart all my hard work sometime soon. Wish me luck, Rae! i'm glad you got recognised for your work, it means I got to find your work and to be a follower of yours!
So for the fanart part. I’ve seen people draw fanart for this one show. When the artist doesn’t draw fanart, they usually have 1k likes instead of 4k likes dorm the fanart they post. When the artist stops drawing fanart, they just get less then 1k likes and they just lose followers. It’s really upsetting for the artist since not many people follow them for their art, instead, people follow for fanart and not want to follow for their original art.
Yeah I hear you... On Tumblr I've gotten a few hundred followers who probably only follow me because of fanart, my unrelated artwork hardly gets any notes. Sad story.
I like to post many things on Instagram all the time. All I post is art. I mean sometimes it’s a little discouraging when only a few see it but I just keep posting because it’s fun to do. I don’t want to plug my insta unless you guys want me to.
Hey good people, what do you think of my art? @calliflakes. I haven't posted in months because damn i honestly just gave up trying to get noticed haha. How do you guys find motivation?
@@dana-mp5ti it honestly sucks whenever people who repost without credit gets even more credit than the people who spent so much time and effort to draw
So, -focus on the art. -see your page like a newcomer. -use tags and fanart to get people to check what you do. -respect is important. -DO NOT beg for attention. -No comparing yourself with other artists. And most of all, -Consistancy and Patience. Great video Lav!
Asdfhgk ty for this list I needed this I would totally follow this, b t since I use *gOOgLe pLus*, I can't use tags, which I wish were a thing that was more common ;w; *also nice percedal pfp*👌
you are definitely not limited to using only g+ (let's face it, NOBODY uses g+), just create other accounts on different channels (instagram, tumblr, deviantart, even facebook... the list of better venues for art is very very long)
I have like 100 and something followers on my art instagram and the other day I posted a drawing of Toga from My Hero Academia and some sweet ANGEL! said 'Sis honestly you deserve more followers' and I actually cried cause that made me a bit TOO happy
Perks of being unpopular, you'll see reappearing faces very often in your posts and you can even form friendships with them. Sometimes, it feels slightly more special than being popular.
That's actually true! On Instagram I see followers of mine repeatedly. (even if its not comments but reappearing likes) On TH-cam I also see reappearing subscribers now and then and I always reply to them, (aswel as new viewers/subscribers) and I even form a small friendship of some sort!
true! Ever since i switched my channel content to speedpaints, the same people who usually commented still comment regularly and it feels like we're close- i talk to some of them online often and we're good friends!
Step one: Don't have ADHD Step two: Don't change interests / hyperfixations, people hate that Step two-part 2: DO FANART! Do whats hot now! Step three: Draw and upload every day Step four: Get so exhausted bending to the will of others Step five: Feel worthless because you cant be like all the other artists Step six: Realize you cant continue on this toxic path Step seven: Begin with recovery of the self hate and worthlessness you formed trying to be like everyone else Step eight: Push self validation up, accept you're not going to be able to live to the standards of others but are very grateful for the attention you do currently get Step nine: Draw what you want and love it, love the progress you're making Step ten: Continuously go through cycles of love / hate towards yourself and your art because recovery aint linier
This was very true for me and relatable but my problems stemmed from my high expectations for myself, i never really got jealous. But everything else was spot on
Here's the thing. Maybe I'm just selfish or whatever... but I actually LIKE my art. I want to show people my art but I feel weird saying "look at this thing I made, it looks so good" it just feels so narcissistic. But saying "omg look at this it looks so bad" is just completely not what I actually think. So what do I say..... nothing??
I'm stuck in the same situation as you. I'm really good at art, (I don't have an art style, I just draw whatever pops into my head, but my "style" is anime and realism), I like to show people but I don't want to come of as narcissistic neither, Everytime I show my art, people are like, "you're SOooOo good, I always try to draw but I cant" and when they say that, it makes me feel like I'm a show off
But what if one of your posts blows up once and then after that the max you get is 20 likes? I mean that happened to me but it's difficult not to be disappointed from that
The feeling when a "popular" artist will draw a simple line and gets thousands of likes and comments about "this amazing cute, adorable, perfect line" and you draw hours and hours to a realistic piece and you get about 10 likes and probably any comment.
I think people misunderstand the fanart thing. I generally don't do any type of fanart, I'm making my own comic so thats what I draw. My art isnt doing very well at the moment so I was told to do fanart. Here's the thing. A year ago I was drawing manga only, I managed to get a couple thousand ppls attention with it, then I changed my artstyle completely, the views and subs are down now. Heres what you should do, draw a little bit of fanart here and there, for example, when you watch batman and feel like drawing batman then draw batman. But you shouldn't only just draw batman and then one day start drawing original stuff. You should have 9/10 original posts and 1/10 fanart. That way people can still get drawn in and relate to your love for supernatural, but they will still stay, if they do stay, for ALL the art because it wouldnt be worth it just for that one supernatural drawing. ;)
I feel like this should be obvious. You don't want people to think you're a fan art page/channel/artist when you're trying to focus on your original art. It'd be like a business that blew all it's resources on ads without developing a good product.
Madlyn Ziemer me personally, I'm autistic, so I obsess over certain things intensely for long whiles. So, for months I'll be drawing fanart and have no interest in Ocs, then for months I'll obsess over my OCs and draw them for months. I never say I'm a fanart blog or an oc blog, just that I draw whatever I feel like drawing. If I wanna draw five fanarts and two Ocs or no fanart and 20 Ocs, it's just what I do. I mean my art is good, I know it is(I'm not being narcissistic, I just don't put myself and my art down anymore and all that jazz)...but obviously the fanart always does way better. I've kinda accepted it right now that my followers are split with some liking only my fanart and some liking only my oc art and a very rare few who love all of it :/
I usually just stop uploading my art on Deviantart or Facebook and shutdown. Sometimes I go weeks without drawing; This video helps, a lot and I do believe that this will help others. Anyways, have a good day, I love your content.
Honestly; I feel like the only thing really I haven’t done in this list is the thumbnails- I’ll start doing that from now on! But the others.... I’ve been on insta for a year now and been doing these on the regular. Let’s be honest: it’s all about how good your art is and LUCK. You can’t grow if your fan art isn’t good enough for people to care about :/ harsh truth coming from someone at the bottom, not the top
Practice my friend. Practice makes perfect. Hell, we've even seen stick figures and shit become popular. Hell, don't even get my started on rage comics from Reddit. It does take luck and skill, yes. Though it also does take these tips, as well as just patience and practice. Sometimes patience is all you need and it takes a few years for someone to get a noticeable audience.
Moonibly if you’re doing any fandom related/shipping related art I would definitely recommend tumblr, the tagging system almost guarantees someone will see your post if you have similar tags followed and similar interests, which also makes it easier to find online friends! Maybe I’m biased because that’s where is started but you’ll usually see yourself getting more notes the more you post
So true though. By the way, Akane can’t Draw, why’s your TH-cam channel name lying? You draw 100 times better than me! Edit: Nevermind. You draw 1,000,000 times better than me. My art is genuine trash, that some people like for some reason. :v
Sadly on deviantart the good art gets overridden by fetish p*rn and that kind of stuff. Nobody even sees my art, but that doesn't stop me from improving I guess Keep up the good work my fellow artists, you deserve to be noticed one day❤
That's all too often the case with the "browse newest" page. Have you tried submitting your art to groups? They're a good way to get yourself noticed, since they show your art to people who are specifically looking for the kind of content the group showcases. Keep working hard, fellow artist!
Keitarin I actually have, I'm in one very nice group. I just feel like the others in the group are so talented and I'm not nearly as good :c. Thanks for advice though, I really apprecciate it! Have a nice day :3
ZaagaWaffl :3 I like Instagram more than deviantart because deviantart is specifically made for art but that means it’s drowning in art. I think it makes it harder for your art to get noticed because there’s just so much of it. On instagram there’s an art community and it’s not small but it’s not enormous like deviantart. I like the layout of ig as well I think you should try it out
I use an art Amino and that’s where I usually post art. I personally think it’s better than posting on Deviant art, instagram, etc. Your art gets noticed more easily and people might even give you some constructive criticism on how you can improve. But that’s just my opinion, thought it might be helpful since you said your art doesn’t really get noticed on Deviant Art. ^_^
One of my least favorite stuff is when people lie about how much time they took on a drawing, just to get attention, the time really does not matter! What matters is how your art it.
This comment can be viewed in different ways depending on the reader, whether it's taken as a joke or if people think you're being rude and saying, oh, so she's basically saying to draw fanart just to get noticed...
In fact, I don't have an Insta, but my mom does. It never really seemed that interesting whenever I was scrolling through her phone (she allows me to do that, as my mom trusts me).
Actually, the fan art one. Your right! Jaiden animations done fan art for ihascupcake they noticed her and asked jaiden to make animation for their videos! And that’s when jaiden started!
I do overshaded stuff and I've been seeing improvement by only coloring the subject in, and if I do end up coloring the whole thing, I just put it as the second pic
My version: #1 Have an enjoyable personality #2 Post art as much as possible to make opportunities to be seen #3 Draw things you like and not care about popularity Popularity isn't a formula. It just comes to you due to people enjoying your content and sharing it with their friends.
Tell that to all the businesses that exist entirely because they consistently make things popular. #1 Be yourself. You don't have to get most people to like you, you can get a few people to love you and you'll be solid. #2 You have finite time to produce work. Grinding away won't matter if nobody sees it. Spend time to try to maximize the visibility of your work to get the most out of your time. #3 Know what you want, and do what is requires to get there. You don't have to compromise your values, but if you want to get successful, just doing whatever you want isn't a very sound strategy for most.
Apparatus My friend has more subs than I do and it weighs me down. To me, yes, it’s not about popularity but about how much you are appreciated. Many people (just a few, actually, it’s just more than mine) appreciate her while I have just a few. Do you know a solution to being down because you’re not appreciated much?
Popularity often reflects the general taste not quality...look at the fast food chains. So you can be an awesome stakehouse or unique veggie restaurant you gonna have less recognition and revenue than the fast food chain. I would say, your audience will find you and the only thing you have to do is to improve yourself, love what you do and believe in it.
I recently just quitted all of my social media to focus on my art. Because like you said. When you're not "popular" you usually take it on yourself and how you draw. Im taking it slow, but it's good to rediscover why i love drawing so much and what i want to share with my style :D Again thank you for all of your great tips, i'll probably be going back on social medias in maybe a year. But before that i want to learn to appreciate my art and what i like about it. :)
I know this comment is old but I'm doing this right now. It's been weeks since I've been on any sites besides DA but I don't mind (人*´∀`)。*゚ It's actually refreshing and I'm less stressed because I don't have to deal with a lot of people on there.
I feel like I should start doing the same. I’ve been frustrated as of late, comparing myself to other artists and how much fame they get. It’s been really messing me up. I’ve had thoughts about abandoning my Instagram account and starting fresh with a new one. Maybe I should quit for a while, focus on stuff like the comic series I’ve been wanting to make or animations ideas I’ve been holding back. And maybe one day I can come back to social media with something new and genuine to offer
i always get so sad bcus my art doesn't get many recognition, yknow that feeling when you tried so hard but failed anyway? yeah that's how i feel :( i really don't wanna overthink about likes, but i just can't...
Try to appreciate what you do get. A small number may seem unimpressive, but those aren't numbers... they're people. I mean, shit, I put in the time to write you this comment, and even this is more than most get from me.
You can be consistently inconsistent. The equivalent of a variety let's play channel versus a minecraft channel, both work if you grow your fanbase knowing how it's gonna be.
I use a site called PaigeeWorld, which is a smaller, more kid-friendly version of DeviantArt. About everyone gets noticed, since there's an actual whole section for the new artists to post their first drawing, so they get noticed. They're also a welcome team that helps a LOT ^^ (oh holy shizzle 411 likes wOW)
This fucks with you emotionally and psychologically. Especially when you grew up in a very toxic environment that never really gave you that much support.
Getting your art and maybe youtube videos out is kind of like playing poker. If you're playing and all you do is place all of the cards you have down because you think that if you're just lucky you'll win, you're definitely going to lose and not get discovered. But if you've studied all the rules, techniques, and other experiences, you'll more likely win the round and get discovered more (some luck is still involved, but you'll more likely win).
seigeengine has a point on one level, but the analogy works in that poker has a strong random component as well as a skill component, plus social factors and strategies. Also, what poker is "about" for you will depend on who you are and how you approach the table, though different activities do tend to attract different types of people. Not all competition is antagonistic. Sometimes it is constructive.
1:57 that was what I thought. I was like 13 when I started practising and practising how to make my art more and more realistic because I felt like only then it could actually be good enough for instagram. I gained followers and was happy when I got likes and ashamed of my art when it didn't get likes. The problem was that I didn't have fun creating art anymore. I had like 150 insta followers and I felt like I had to draw realistic stuff and just had to draw it well enough and then I'd gain followers. So I really lost all the fun and creativity and over time also stopped creating art. One day, I discovered your TH-cam channel and other artists like Kasey Golden and realised art does not have to look realistic to be good. That discovery motivated me immensely and I started drawing again. This time, I didn't draw realistically but more cartoonish. I experimented around, got a tablet, tried to find my style and stuff. When I posted something for the first time since a couple of months I was pretty excited to show off my new art. It was the first digital art I had posted. It rarely got any likes. I kinda understood though because it wasn't good at all. I continued posting art but I kept getting less and less likes. The people who followed me had followed me for realism, not some mediocre cartoonish art. I stopped posting my art and decided that from now on I'm only going to create art for myself until I am completely happy with the way I draw. I'm doing that right now, still haven't found my style but I'm learning. Once I feel like I'm ready, I'm gonna create a new account one which I will post my own, original art. I don't think anyone read this but it felt good to write my journey down lol
I make art for Instagram as well, the reason my art isn’t good is because I’m just lacking motivation, and that’s because I don’t have the skill I wish I would have, and when I do have motivation, I either start drawing, and it just keeps going wrong and I give up, or I’ll start making a piece that I like, but then I’ll start rushing through it because I’m like “this is taking me forever, I’m so tired of it, but I need it ‘finished’” and it never really gets finished at all. It just looks rushed because I think I’m taking too long with my art. The main thing that’s stopping my from making art though is anatomy- like I’ll have this epic pose in mind, and then I’ll draw it out which could take me hours, and then I’m done with it and then whatever I’m drawing looks deformed- Hhhhh
So helpfull! I don't want a huge "fanbase". Just a few ppl to stay around and communicate with. It does feel a bit lonely when you draw something important to your feeling, but only 1-3 ppl like them. Tho every like means alot!
yeah, its kind of not worth it imho to JUST do it for yourself. To me anyways. I'm not that selfish :/ .. i wanna see my stuff inspire other people and make friends off it and stuff too, i want to do good and leave a "mark" or impression. Not just waste away worthlessly in the background and waste all this time for nothing.
Yeah, I'm only popular for fanart of rappers, mostly getting high like counts for xxxtentacion fanart. When I do other stuff, I normally get around 5 likes, compared to my most recent X drawing that got 36.
My highest liked art has 57 likes and over like 200 views but I still feel incredibly happy that more people than my family likes my art, it boosted my self esteem to see people saying it was really good. I was surprised to see some people actually liking my art
I dont need popularity, i just want that one talented person to notice me and it's hard jdhejeid does that mean we have to be popular so the talented one noticed us? :(
I'm sure it's the same with other artists, but I personally love seeing other people's art! Whether the artist is more or less experienced than me doesn't really matter, and I often find myself praising the younger artists for their hard work and dedication in such a brutal talent. If someone doesn't notice your art, it could be that it's simply not their preference in style. The hard thing is trying to accept that something you're proud of is ignored by someone, but there will always come a day. :) Good luck!
you are DEFINITELY speaking the truth lmao. really sucks for someone like me who currently has a ,, Really strange art style thats really different and doesnt entirely match whats common or trending.
True, and it's not a bad thing. If it pays the bills, that works. Others can surpass that with skill @@kurtistrent8754 if you're concerned more about style than fundamentals, you're doing it wrong
1- Git gud 2- create a Instagram only for att 3- good hashtags, not the popular ones 4- post 2 times a week 5- keep improving and posting and dont die.
Important reminder: Post your art for yourself. even if you have low following and barely any engagement that does not matter, your happiness is most important. do not let low numbers discourage you from posting your artwork x3
best comment ive seen here, and to top it off its from a person with an adorable kirby pfp! thank youuuu!! kinda realizing now ive been drawing characters that get more attention in the servers im in than my actual characters n creaturesss
Truuue... I've thought about this a lot but it's also kind of sad how people/audience only want to follow a page/blog that has only the artist's art... and then unfollow/get disinterested whenever the artist posts about their life or has an update it's like they hate seeing the artist is a real person and all they want is content content content. That's the only thing that's upsetting.
remainingembers Yeah it's kinda sad but for example on tumblr I can't stand when my dash is full of somebody's shitposts and it shuts out otger artists too bc it's too much and frequent.
yeah but i dont mean artists posting shitposts or silly stuff, more like one personal-ish post or smth that's not Cute Fanart that everyone flocks to. It's like anything that has more to do with the artist makes people unfollow or care less bc sometimes they dont see artists as people you know what I mean?
remainingembers I think you have the wrong idea of why people follow artists online. Most of the time, what people care about is just the art. It's rare that an artist online seems interesting enough that one would want to know about non art related topics, too. I think whether or not your audience cares about your private life is something you need to test out carefully and slowly. People aren't unfeeling, but the internet is big, and time is sparse, and therecs a big difference between a casual follower and a huge fan.
Maybe so for very professional artists who have dedicated places for their artwork, I'm not so much talking about that than just general artists and ones who do their work for hobby more than for actual commission or for a field. Regardless of who and where, treating artists or any creator like faceless machines only there to give content of whatever they posted once is generally hurtful imo. I'm talking people unfollowing for an artist answering one single question or not posting a few days due to school, or just how it feels as an artist posting when you only get interaction from others when you post some goofy meme art, but not on anything else or anything meaningful in your life yanno.
Is that surprising? People are rarely interested in the artist's life since it is irrelevant to them. Some artists are also very obnoxious about this, such as using their pages as a soapbox for their personal (usually financial) issues. I don't think people mind the occasional non-art update, but if it becomes too frequent or preachy there is no reason to continue following said artist.
I'm still exploring my style, it's quite hard to make it look consistent, what i can only do is that to try to post at least a row of same styled arts in instagram
Call me egotistical but I have no intention of drawing fanart to gain a following. My ultimate goal as an artist is to improve as an artist and draw my own work, not walk in the shadows cast by other artists.
This. I cringe every time I hear that you *have* to draw fan art to gain a following. I'd rather just keep painting and drawing illustrations from my writing projects and d&d campaigns or whatever else inspires me at the time. I don't want to drift along in anyone else's shadow/ride the coat tails of pop culture just for "clout." Never mind the fair use tangles you can get in with some companies over fan art.
Tbh I only draw Fanart, but its just because I love drawing it and its right now my only motivation in drawing. But you should never draw something you dont want or that doesnt inspire you so yea..
i do fanart cause i like it ... ill do it for stuff that I like when I want .. i dont think about it as egotistical its just if you like it why not do it if it also in your advantage ... ans you can improove with fanart a lot too in my opinion
Tbh being famous for art is one of the last things I would want. When your famous like that a lot of people depend and expect you to make the same same kind of content at a certain time and complain if it's different of if it's not uploaded on time. Also when your famous you never get good criticism and that's what happened to people like Allimations and Nawnii. They are famous but they never get good criticism so at this point they will never improve and stay at the same point. When you arnt popular then people are actually honest about that kind of stuff and people just appreciate your stuff better in general a lot
salted squares "Never" is over stretching it lol. Getting more famous means getting more helpful constructive criticism actually, although it does comes with a price of getting even more unhelpful comments too. No matter how famous or big you get, there's always a few people that are genuine.
No worries man, I can help you out: Nobody depends on anybody to make art unless there's money involved. Nobody will seriously be affected if a famous artist takes a little longer between releasing work. It's easy to get good criticism: just don't rely on the general audience to be your source of it. Preferably get the opinions of other artists. Even when you're not successful, you have to take any criticism with a tub of salt. Most criticism is bad. Even relatively small artists can have a few sycophants. +ItistheFrenchiestFry This. In literally everything. Some of the best advice for this from my experience is to step back and look at your work from a distance... including literally. We make things under a microscope almost, so we're hyper-conscious of every flaw, so taking a step or five back can really help appreciate the piece as a whole rather than letting us zoom in on the faults.
Amiino is actually pretty good to get popular as it is not a HUGE community and how when you join you follow some people which might be you. Amiino is great to build a community and then you can move over to Twitter and Instagram with a fanbase.
This is going to sound angry but skill isn’t important anymore 🤷🏽♀️. If people identify with it even if it’s a stupid little doodle if people have an emotional connection with its going to go viral. Also the algorithm favors more popular artists for obvious reason
You are spitting absolute facts! I hate when these channels say "make sure your art is neat and good"..... HAH!! I've seen literal scribbles go viral 🤣 No, people don't care about skill anymore sadly....
I got really really mad because other people just do tiny sketches and get 700 likes, while I did a whole shading, coloring, lineart drawing and get 3 likes. I still get 3 to 7 likes :/
I know this comment was a month ago but never give up hope. If you love art, pursue it. I understand your pain though...I get so salty when my art doesn't get noticed.
I kinda disagree with the fanart part, since that usually only attracts people to follow you for that exact fandom. I used to draw fanart for a fandom i was in and got quite alot of followers from it. however when i stopped, i had a massive decline in followers. and now its really annoying whenever i get a follow from someone who literally only likes and starts following for the fanart. and it happens way way more than getting people from the fanart to be interested in my original work. so i genuinely dont recommend that
NegativeAnswer I agree to this 100% I have the exact same problems. People only care about the one or two fanart you did but they ignore everything else. I used to draw a lot Pokémon art and other things and these have like 100-300 favs on my Deviantart while my original art gets not even 50 sometimes and 1-2 comments. I mean that's still not less but it's a huge difference. I think it's hard to grow with original art in general. It's kinda sad honestly. I personally think original art is way cooler than "unoriginal" art. Aka fanart. But most people don't seem to be interested
Skykristal This is legit! back when undertale was booming i started making stuff and posted it in DA and everybody liked it my notifs was freakin bombarded with watchers, fav and comments but then when i stop posting it all went floop before i get watchers every hours but now i might get lucky if i had 1 watch for a week or even month
Maybe try not doing so much fan art of one specific thing. You don't want to build an audience looking for one thing, you want to draw them in, and hook them on your content as a whole. If you have a bunch of work of one thing though, they're going to see that, and then sub for that... don't give them the impression that's what you're offering.
Skykristal no one knows your Cool OC With Hot Wings and Tragic Backstory but they do know naruto or smthn so of course they like to see naruto in this particular style rather than some rando
I relate to this completely! I used to go by Redhoodiecommie for Eddsworld art but now that's all people followed me for. I changed and people didn't stick around ahah ^__^"
The thing with fanart is often that they get double the likes or attention then out own stuff and you can get reallg bumped out with it, cause it gives you the feeling no one cares about your own stuff. Takes a while to learn not to get cought up in those numbers ^^
I think the takeaway should be to consider fan art like it's advertising. It's not your product, it's how you get people to look at your product. Of course more people are going to see an ad than follow through and check out where it goes.
@@AlphaTengua in which case get an easier job to provide the bulk of your income and work on your art career on the side until it reliably exceeds the income you get from your easy job, part of being an artist is accepting that making a career out of it is hard and you probably will need to support yourself in other ways, it's a lot more productive to tell people that numbers don't matter since the majority of people here only want the numbers for attention and not full income and for them worrying about numbers will only discourage them
Anyway what I was going to say about fanart is that with tagging systems and stuff it's a lot easier to get your art out there when you're putting it in a tag thats popular but not totally saturated ([insert fandom]fanart vs art for example) and original art is a lot harder to tag with those sorts of things, since generic tags are always saturated and specific tags for original stuff are not going to be frequently searched, popular artists also tend to have an easier time getting original stuff noticed simply because social media algorithms tend to notice and promote accounts that already have more followers because those algorithms tend to rely on popularity, so if your original stuff isn't getting noticed as much its probably just because you havent been around for long enough, you just have to keep at it and you'll get there
People’s reaction to no one noticing your art: 1:disappointed but is reasonable 2:angry/jealous/frustrated 3:guesses luck Me:LETS POST IT ON TH-cam thus how I made my smol channel
Cathy Newbi happens all the time honestly it’s a shame putting effort and getting a couple likes and next post is just some shit doodle you quickly made and that blows up it sucks
This is why I'm planning on being an author (writing books) rather than someone who earns money through TH-cam. My speedpaints don't get that many views. My lazy animation memes get more attention.
nah skills means nothing. there are people with seemingly broken hands that are popular and gods among men that are left in the dust for some reason. and that's a SAD FACT!
Lack of appealing to audiences(No tags, no consideration for thumbnails and titles), only doing what they enjoy/putting the same or more amount into things that they like but are unpopular, and others are the reasons why. Audiences need talent but the Internet needs a marketing strategy to show your work to audiences. And God forbid the platforms help, they only care about promoting what gets the most likes so that way there's a bigger chance other people will like it and spend more time on their platform looking at it, that's why luck is involved
And the fanart. I tried going on Wattpad and it wasn't until I realised fanfiction, roleplaying, and smutfics were what made me get thousands of reads did I ever hit 200 followers (There people only follow you because they need to tag you once you stop replying, but they get notified when you release a new book and I've gotten fans this way)

Someone: Do you ever want to talk about your art, Really Popular Artist? Really Popular Artist: No. Me: I do! Someone: I know, VV. Me: I’m sad. Someone: I know, VV.
Basically, building your brand as an artist is like building any other brand. People need to see your work, be compelled to actually follow through on looking at it, and then be sold on converting them into an audience member... if any of those stages aren't working well, you will fail to build an audience. So ask yourself: 1. How are people going to see my art for the first time? How can I get my work in front of more interested eyes? The fan art comment falls in here. 2. How can I make my art draw in those people to want to take a closer look? What's going to compel people to click through? The thumbnail comment falls in here. 3. How can I make my work good enough that people are going to be compelled to commit themselves to seeing more of your work instead of just clicking away and forgetting you? This is also an area where fan art can grab ahold of existing emotions in the viewer. It's also where your actual skill as an artist comes into play.
seigeengine you’re right. It’s literally marketing like a company would market a product. A lot of people don’t think about it in that sense. They think, here’s my art, I like it, they should too. In reality it’s finding a demographic to attract and analyzing how your product or service (artwork) will provide what they want. Then it’s all about finding ways to place the art in front of them. Most get lucky and do it on accident, but the hugely successful have these things in mind when creating their artwork.
Man when I was in my early high school days my art was totally freaking garbage and somehow I gained a ton of popularity- the anatomy was absolutely atrocious, the colours were all over he place, there just wasn’t much good about it at all. Once I started improving and my art was actually decent, it completely dried up and I have never been able to get that back
As a kid I used to like cringe things and I had a lot of time to support artists who drew cringe. As an adult I don't have time to even answer my friends? If you want to be popular your art should be appealing to people from 11-19 because those people have more time to appreciate your art. I hope that you get what I mean
It's kind of like the "pretty" and "ugly" people thing on social media. People will hype the "ugly" people up because they don't see them as competition. People will ignore or discourage "pretty" people because they see them as competition or they get jealous. It's not 100% the same for art, but it's pretty similar in my opinion. also please note i put quotation marks because i dont think those labels really define anyone 🥲
Com'on be honest. Everyone is doing fanart.... only few get really noticed, most never get a really huge following. There are too many great fanartists already that struggle for a little bit of attention. Fans of fanart only come for the fanart, as soon as you start presenting original ideas, they're gone and you're often back to square one. Fanart fans are a bubble.
Variety let's play channel versus League of Legends channel. If you teach your audience you're doing fanart, just stick to that and shove them your original work in very small doses. If you teach them you'll draw whatever the heck you want, they'll know they are in for original surprises and the fanart will be the rare candy. Just be consistent with one, instead of inconsistent with both.
Popularity is a fickle beast, for a small number of people things will skyrocket and for most it will only barely work out, or might not work out at all.
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS!!i was kinda struggling on instagram, and after i watched this video my art finally did get noticed.i changed the way i did my thumbnail and edited the photos to get a bit of a shine.i can finally see some good results!!TYSM
Honestly she's so sweet and kind and encouraging and honest... she's giving helpful tips while being realistic and yet not overly pessimistic and teaching younger people that it's good to be true to yourself and not to get caught up in the dark sides of internet popularity. I really love her bc she's so genuine and good.
parker kittens I don't believe that kids don't be yourself be that cool kid at school you know the one that always wears sunglasses and tells the teacher their lame
Thank you for this video! I got into some deep waters last year due to college and what's been really helping me lately apart from a tougher skin is actually fanart of Doctor Who. :) And I'll eventually start sharing it on Instagram once exams are over;; But yeah, you talking about making the thumbnail contrasting so a person clicks on it seems like a no brainer but often get's skimmed a lot. Hope this'll help a lot of upcoming artists.
I have a fan account since July 2019 and I realized how hard is growing up and get followers but I still do it because I love run it, and it helped me to see how to get your own style, being creative and still doing it because you love it and not because of your followers number, my account was even deleted in December and I had to start again but I kept the same quality and constancy of posting, so, if you really like it you'll get it at anytime, now I'm getting 100 followers everyday (that's a lot considering I only have 3k) but for a long time i had like, 3 or 4 everyday but I didn't mind it
As an artist it's even harder to earn people's respect for their art. I had a phase where I just drew "how to train your dragon" art and got over 20+ likes (I am a rather small account) 👀 and I felt confident that people like my art, so I finally got out of the phase and just started of doing my own personal art and just got like 10+ likes. I am still doing fanart sometimes, but people don’t comment, or don’t give it any attention for what I did. I know it's not that important to get the likes or earn followers, but I would love if somebody would just criticize my art in an informative way so I can improve easier... ~Doing art is hard~
I don't want to sound like "uhh my art ist the best and everyone else shouldn't be noticed" but I feel like people who draw just like 3rd graders get a lot more attention than me. The have like 200 followers while I'm here being sad with my 45 followers :((
I feel that. But for a sec just imagine 45 people in a room with you who all like and want to see your art. It seems like it isn't a lot when compared to the 100s and even 1k following that people have, but still, it's actually a lot of people when you really think about it
This video was really great and wholesome! Thank you for reminding people about being kind and trying not to let other's comments get to you. It's so important! Not to mention, your art style is friggin adorable

Having a voice on the internet is not like screaming into a void. It's like screaming into a crowd that's way over the room capacity where some people are pushing and shoving; some are robots, some have megaphones, some have surround sound microphones, and some just have a new thing that megaphone/microphones take interest in.

What really separates popular artist from the rest is the *TIMEZONE*
This one gets it
Please explain..!
I have trouble interacting with my fans because they’re mostly based in Indonesia so far and I have to stay up til six am if I want to meet them.

another tip: do some “draw this in your style” stuff!! some artists will re post the art to their story, and if they have a somewhat large following, people will see your art and if they like it they’ll even give you a follow :)
((ONLY re draw art if it’s a draw this in your style post, if it isn’t one, never do that))

Giulia R25 haha, try doing it with semi popular acc, one without too many followings so they still have a chance to see your art and one without too little do there’s more people who will see it. like between 10-50k followers (make sure to check if there’s a deadline, and it’s better to submit it sooner than later)

Sad story.

Perks of being unpopular, you'll see reappearing faces very often in your posts and you can even form friendships with them. Sometimes, it feels slightly more special than being popular.
It feels like a family if that makes any sense :3
That's actually true!
On Instagram I see followers of mine repeatedly. (even if its not comments but reappearing likes)
On TH-cam I also see reappearing subscribers now and then and I always reply to them, (aswel as new viewers/subscribers) and I even form a small friendship of some sort!
true!
Ever since i switched my channel content to speedpaints, the same people who usually commented still comment regularly and it feels like we're close- i talk to some of them online often and we're good friends!
Yeah lol- I have this one person who doesn’t follow me but likes all of my stuff to the point I recognize them when I get the dArt notification
Step one: Don't have ADHD
Step two: Don't change interests / hyperfixations, people hate that
Step two-part 2: DO FANART! Do whats hot now!
Step three: Draw and upload every day
Step four: Get so exhausted bending to the will of others
Step five: Feel worthless because you cant be like all the other artists
Step six: Realize you cant continue on this toxic path
Step seven: Begin with recovery of the self hate and worthlessness you formed trying to be like everyone else
Step eight: Push self validation up, accept you're not going to be able to live to the standards of others but are very grateful for the attention you do currently get
Step nine: Draw what you want and love it, love the progress you're making
Step ten: Continuously go through cycles of love / hate towards yourself and your art because recovery aint linier
This is an incredibly underrated comment omg
This really needs more likes
i love how im failing with the first step. really boosting that morale
Step 11: realize that hardly to earn money from art. Give up
This was very true for me and relatable but my problems stemmed from my high expectations for myself, i never really got jealous.
So what do I say..... nothing??
you could maybe just say that you worked hard on it and think you did a gud job
Yeah, I get what you’re saying, but being proud isn’t narcissistic! Show off your work, be proud in what you made!
I'm stuck in the same situation as you. I'm really good at art, (I don't have an art style, I just draw whatever pops into my head, but my "style" is anime and realism), I like to show people but I don't want to come of as narcissistic neither, Everytime I show my art, people are like, "you're SOooOo good, I always try to draw but I cant" and when they say that, it makes me feel like I'm a show off
Or you could that you want them to see your work bc you are really proud of it and you would like some feedback ;)
Edit : could say*
Well, I think you should first ask the viewer on his opinion. After that, say you think you like it, depending of course on the opinion of the viewer.
One important thing to do is to have low expectations to never be disappointed.

Sometimes i get into a creators original stuff because i liked their fanart.
This is what I'm trying to do at the moment. This is great advice.
I've kinda accepted it right now that my followers are split with some liking only my fanart and some liking only my oc art and a very rare few who love all of it :/
Can I just say your art style is awesome
(( Edit ))

I usually just stop uploading my art on Deviantart or Facebook and shutdown. Sometimes I go weeks without drawing; This video helps, a lot and I do believe that this will help others. Anyways, have a good day, I love your content.

I've seen artists whos art isnt the best but the reason they're popular is because they make funny comics or just comics about a fandom

That's all too often the case with the "browse newest" page. Have you tried submitting your art to groups? They're a good way to get yourself noticed, since they show your art to people who are specifically looking for the kind of content the group showcases.
Keep working hard, fellow artist!

I like the layout of ig as well I think you should try it out
Penguin Gelato you are right! Im on instagram too and my friends follow me too but of course someone new could be cool to have as a follower x3

Probably cause Instagram has such small frames it’s really hard to see details, so people just stick to cuter, simpler things.

*when your OCD kicks in*
My version:
#1 Have an enjoyable personality
#2 Post art as much as possible to make opportunities to be seen
#3 Draw things you like and not care about popularity
Popularity isn't a formula.
@@seigeengine Say *that* to Cat Blanket or Marlow
Im taking it slow, but it's good to rediscover why i love drawing so much and what i want to share with my style :D
Again thank you for all of your great tips, i'll probably be going back on social medias in maybe a year. But before that i want to learn to appreciate my art and what i like about it. :)

I know this is one year old, but out of all these comments I agree with this one 100%
Ah yes! That's an excellent metaphor for it!
I dislike this metaphor. Poker is about rules, and strategies, but it's also about deception, manipulation, and antagonistic competition.
seigeengine it still compares of how some digital artists get popular or not.
seigeengine has a point on one level, but the analogy works in that poker has a strong random component as well as a skill component, plus social factors and strategies. Also, what poker is "about" for you will depend on who you are and how you approach the table, though different activities do tend to attract different types of people. Not all competition is antagonistic. Sometimes it is constructive.
I didn't say it didn't work, I said I disliked it because of it's other implications.
Hurrdurr, circlejerk.
Best of luck 💕💕💕
Hey, people actually read this. Hang in there, chief.
I admire you (◠‿◕)
I make art for Instagram as well, the reason my art isn’t good is because I’m just lacking motivation, and that’s because I don’t have the skill I wish I would have, and when I do have motivation, I either start drawing, and it just keeps going wrong and I give up, or I’ll start making a piece that I like, but then I’ll start rushing through it because I’m like “this is taking me forever, I’m so tired of it, but I need it ‘finished’” and it never really gets finished at all. It just looks rushed because I think I’m taking too long with my art.
The main thing that’s stopping my from making art though is anatomy- like I’ll have this epic pose in mind, and then I’ll draw it out which could take me hours, and then I’m done with it and then whatever I’m drawing looks deformed-
Hhhhh

Panda Bear that’s a good mindset
When it comes to fanart I only draw what I honestly like, that way I do enjoy it from my heart.
Zeke Strickland yea, but not a lot, I rarely ever see famous people get helpful cristism
salted squares now when you say it, it made me actually look at it people who are famous don't get alot of criticism
Oof I’m my own worst critic tbh lol
No worries man, I can help you out:
Nobody depends on anybody to make art unless there's money involved.
So I was watching this video with earbuds with only one side working

Maybe try not doing so much fan art of one specific thing. You don't want to build an audience looking for one thing, you want to draw them in, and hook them on your content as a whole.
If you have a bunch of work of one thing though, they're going to see that, and then sub for that... don't give them the impression that's what you're offering.
Skykristal no one knows your Cool OC With Hot Wings and Tragic Backstory but they do know naruto or smthn so of course they like to see naruto in this particular style rather than some rando

"How to get your art noticed..."
*Post a video about how to get your art noticed*
This is such an underrated comment
The thing with fanart is often that they get double the likes or attention then out own stuff and you can get reallg bumped out with it, cause it gives you the feeling no one cares about your own stuff. Takes a while to learn not to get cought up in those numbers ^^
I think the takeaway should be to consider fan art like it's advertising. It's not your product, it's how you get people to look at your product. Of course more people are going to see an ad than follow through and check out where it goes.
numbers do matter when you're trying to move out and afford a house and provide for a family /: (aka money)..
@@AlphaTengua in which case get an easier job to provide the bulk of your income and work on your art career on the side until it reliably exceeds the income you get from your easy job, part of being an artist is accepting that making a career out of it is hard and you probably will need to support yourself in other ways, it's a lot more productive to tell people that numbers don't matter since the majority of people here only want the numbers for attention and not full income and for them worrying about numbers will only discourage them
Anyway what I was going to say about fanart is that with tagging systems and stuff it's a lot easier to get your art out there when you're putting it in a tag thats popular but not totally saturated ([insert fandom]fanart vs art for example) and original art is a lot harder to tag with those sorts of things, since generic tags are always saturated and specific tags for original stuff are not going to be frequently searched, popular artists also tend to have an easier time getting original stuff noticed simply because social media algorithms tend to notice and promote accounts that already have more followers because those algorithms tend to rely on popularity, so if your original stuff isn't getting noticed as much its probably just because you havent been around for long enough, you just have to keep at it and you'll get there
That is true, I don't like original art, I go to follow people who make fanarts

nah skills means nothing. there are people with seemingly broken hands that are popular and gods among men that are left in the dust for some reason.
and that's a SAD FACT!
That's basically the problem with art today

Basically, building your brand as an artist is like building any other brand. People need to see your work, be compelled to actually follow through on looking at it, and then be sold on converting them into an audience member... if any of those stages aren't working well, you will fail to build an audience.
So ask yourself:
@@Randomstuff33688 Sounds like you're bitter you just suck at the conversion step.
Just be consistent with one, instead of inconsistent with both.
i did alot of fanarts and original arts tbh and all i got is 20 likes-
Popularity is a fickle beast, for a small number of people things will skyrocket and for most it will only barely work out, or might not work out at all.
Really? I never knew about that, cause I genuinely enjoy making fan arts. That's were I started to learn drawing after all
I can relate, I likes fanarts but I don't like original art of artists
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS!!i was kinda struggling on instagram, and after i watched this video my art finally did get noticed.i changed the way i did my thumbnail and edited the photos to get a bit of a shine.i can finally see some good results!!TYSM

It’s @spicycheetoz2012xx
Honestly she's so sweet and kind and encouraging and honest... she's giving helpful tips while being realistic and yet not overly pessimistic and teaching younger people that it's good to be true to yourself and not to get caught up in the dark sides of internet popularity. I really love her bc she's so genuine and good.
Can u make a "do this not that" about perspectives.....I'm really bad at it
How to be popular on Sketch
1.post a picture of a Gachia life character
Unfortunately sketch is dead :( I had 1.6K followers there and I lost them all :((

Thank you for this video! I got into some deep waters last year due to college and what's been really helping me lately apart from a tougher skin is actually fanart of Doctor Who. :) And I'll eventually start sharing it on Instagram once exams are over;;
But yeah, you talking about making the thumbnail contrasting so a person clicks on it seems like a no brainer but often get's skimmed a lot. Hope this'll help a lot of upcoming artists.
I have a fan account since July 2019 and I realized how hard is growing up and get followers but I still do it because I love run it, and it helped me to see how to get your own style, being creative and still doing it because you love it and not because of your followers number, my account was even deleted in December and I had to start again but I kept the same quality and constancy of posting, so, if you really like it you'll get it at anytime, now I'm getting 100 followers everyday (that's a lot considering I only have 3k) but for a long time i had like, 3 or 4 everyday but I didn't mind it
Since im unpopular I appreciate everything people say about my art
As an artist it's even harder to earn people's respect for their art. I had a phase where I just drew "how to train your dragon" art and got over 20+ likes (I am a rather small account) 👀 and I felt confident that people like my art, so I finally got out of the phase and just started of doing my own personal art and just got like 10+ likes. I am still doing fanart sometimes, but people don’t comment, or don’t give it any attention for what I did. I know it's not that important to get the likes or earn followers, but I would love if somebody would just criticize my art in an informative way so I can improve easier...
~Doing art is hard~
Lavender, Thank You So Much For Being So Kind, And Posting! You Have Helped Me So Much In Art, And I'm Still Improving!
~Sincerely

Why Do You Feel The Need To Write Like This? It's annoying.
Give them some slack.
*"I don't lack skill I lack recognition"*
I lack both sometimes 🤣
I don't want to sound like "uhh my art ist the best and everyone else shouldn't be noticed" but I feel like people who draw just like 3rd graders get a lot more attention than me. The have like 200 followers while I'm here being sad with my 45 followers :((
I feel that. But for a sec just imagine 45 people in a room with you who all like and want to see your art. It seems like it isn't a lot when compared to the 100s and even 1k following that people have, but still, it's actually a lot of people when you really think about it
Me sitting there with my one lonely follower
This video was really great and wholesome! Thank you for reminding people about being kind and trying not to let other's comments get to you. It's so important! Not to mention, your art style is friggin adorable
