    whenever i draw, i imagine something so crisp, clean, and beautiful in my head, and when it doesnt turn out like that, i completely lose my motivations and dont draw for days. it sucks :(

      keep trying, if you stop that means you think you will never improve, and you're slowly making that possibility inch towards being 100%, and you don't want that, if you want to get better, step out of your comfort zone, make yourself practice, cuz it was hard for me to decide that i'm trash at drawing and i need to practice

    • @wishtopublish
      @wishtopublish 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      A tip I have for that is to draw without having a clear image in your head. I like to watch art videos, or videos of people going though their sketchbook, or even videos of people talking with fun facial expressions, and then draw whats there. This doesn't necessarily help you get better at drawing whats in your head, but it helps you 1.) Get better, and 2.) Know your art style/strengths/limitations. And that will indirectly help you with drawing that mental image.

      When that happens to me I try to draw at least some kind of head or eyes so that I'm practicing some kind of thing in drawing so I'm drawing while upset about that "bad" drawing.

      Yea i gave up on being annoyed and just stayed at getting dissapointed, but hey we need to make mistakes. I also get to here that alot of people i show my drawings like the imperfections cause it shows it was made by a person. Ugh...

      God if one thing completely flipped the way I thought of art, it would be watercolor. It's just so forgiving. You can really let yourself go and not think and just create. I never feel more free than when I'm doing watercolor painting.

      SkribbleZ Do your sketch with 100% opacity with the same colour you'll use for your outline, then once you're done decrease it to like 30% or smtn and start off with the outline. You'll immediately notice if you're on the right layer ;)

    • @Dragonsoul420
      @Dragonsoul420 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I think the point there was not to make your things look too similar when it comes to drawing the same stuff, like she was saying with giving every character the same pose and face. With the not drawing a bunch of different things, I do agree I think that was meant more if you're going for some sort of portfolio or identity as an artist (I just draw what I feel like and am not professional in any way, so that one's less applicable to me)

    • @wrenbd4015
      @wrenbd4015 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      no draw a bunch of things, her point was more in regards to what you post and show to other people in regards to what sort of artist you want to be to other people. its great to draw a lot and be very versatile! but know what makes you unique as an artist and use that to your advantage, your life style studies dont necessarily need to be in your portfolio

    The thing that bothers me the most when I'm drawing is when the paper crumples or bends when I'm erasing or trying to do other things and is is so annoying

    • @tehprotrollboi6472
      @tehprotrollboi6472 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      sketchbooks tend to have stronger paper, and try to erase in 1 direction, for example, put your hand at the bottom of the paper of the thing you're trying to erase is towards the top, then erase going from a bottom to top motion, that'll help you out a lot

    • @loyaltheoristgirl1018

    • @residentkane
      @residentkane 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd suggest erasing outward at the corners--if you do that--, and hold down the area where you're erasing so it's less likely to crumple.

Looking back once you've developed your style, you'll be able to notice when it started showing up! It's a really cool feeling :3

    Here are my problems:
    •I somewhat struggle with a bit of same face syndrome. I'm getting better at dealing with it, but it's still a small problem for me.
    •My anatomy (especially for dudes) is extremely boring. There's little to no variety in body shapes.
    • I'm not getting out of my comfort zone. I recently got my first drawing tablet, and I've barely used it.
    • I stay up WAY too late at night working on art (especially on school nights).
    • My art never looks how I want it to.
    • I am way too harsh on my art, especially my old art.
    These are just a few of my problems, so yeah. I got a long way to go.

I also always compare my art with others and set my standards too high for myself 😟 I used to take art lessons and my teacher was a wizard with watercolours. Christi Don't worry, your perfectionist habits may have some downsides, but I think you'll grow out of it. Every professional was a beginner at first. But NEVER compare your art to others. Its very bad and will damage your confidence. Just keep in mind that other people who have really good art have practiced for years and years, so if you can keep on practicing, you will one day be as good as them.

Sketching it out can really help the final piece as a whole and you can know where everything will be executed and what problems it has. Also, with a quick sketch, it doesn’t take that much time. Of course, that’s with only one drawing. Hope that kinda helped :)

Your parents probably don't realize art takes a lot more than just an idea and pencil and paper ( or tablet and pen ) As for your art issue, I'd say, keep drawing. Even if you don't like it then oh well. Even a simple drawing that looks bad can help you. Take what you don't like about that drawing and change it in the next or leave it out. Just a month ago a used to only draw people in a few ways: a profile (mostly shoulders and down) or a front view (mostly full bodies) in graphite. My aunt, a former art teacher, went through my sketchbook and saw that, pointing out that I should use other mediums and do characters in different poses. Now, I almost never draw someone standing without doing some sort I pose in some of my favorite pens 🤗

      Necco Dealer don't stress finding a style just draw what you want to draw and slowly take little things that you like away from other styles and create your own unique style. If you don't like it after a while then don't stress it! Art is fun if you just C H I L L

    • @summerbarby1580

      Necco Dealer Don't force a style, let it come on it's own. Later on you'll see hints of your own style popping up. Look up style videos. And try to draw other styles just for fun. You don't have to find your style yet, though I know how frustrating it is to not really HAVE a style. It'll come sooner or later, i'm sure of it. I hope you start to see it soon. I know i tried to force styles that i liked, but it wasn't my own and didn't work. So I understand the feeling. Just don't overthink it.

    The first one you talked about was kinda me. I have art friends but usually they don't understand my kind of style, see here whenever I do rough sketches that need to be traced over, my friends would point out the mistakes that I haven't fixed."oh where are her eyes?" " whereas the nose?" ''The hair!" These kind of questions are what they ask me. And when do showing them my art there is honestly one or two who dislike it which makes me want every picture in my skatchbook to be perfect....

      FrENCh_FriES ;3 - I have the same kind of problem. I’ll start drawing something and instead of it looking a little wonky, it looks kind of good. But once i finish it, i kind of ‘ruin’ it by touching it up and outlining it. But all that i can think is that even if nobody else likes it, as long as you tried and you could picture what you were trying to draw it’s a good picture. Sure the actual drawing isn’t always the best, but from practicing drawing that same picture, maybe you’ll be able to draw it the way you picture it.
      Hope that kinda helped :D

      Tsundere Girl You could try to mix some styles.Look at art styles you like and try to incorporate parts that you like in your style.You could also look at reality for inspiration,just take what you like and see if that's an art style you'd like to have.That's what I did to find mine.
      Also don't draw only in that style when you find it,continue to experiment with new ways of drawing or try replicating the style of an artist you like just to try it.But be sure to say it's inspired by that artist.
      I hope that this helps and that soon you'll find your art style!

      well then don't do detail, the first steps are simplistic, practice circles, perspective cubes "no need for shading", squares, trinagles, also ellipses are very useful in drawing, practice them too, try doing straight lines parallel to each other, make a dot from 1 place to another and try to make a line that goes straight and touches both points at least with some visual que of precision, and a small message to Chioma Egu, motivational sentences should have some advice, just take it from this wonderful man called me

    Oh god, perfectionism and drawing the same thing. That's just me. I tend to have a specific standard I hold my art to, and if the first sketch/lineart (sometimes i don't need a sketch) sucks then I'll erase it and start from the begining. Now to be fair, it sometimes actually works to create stuff I'm satisfied with but still. I really need to stop. It sort of goes hand in hand with drawing the same thing. I gotta start drawing people in better poses or backgrounds or people and backgrounds or something because it's starting to get a bit boring to be honest. Perfectionism was the killer of my art. I got so insecure with my artwork that I actually got depressed or anxiety when I went to draw. That was back when I was 13. I'm 20 now and barely started drawing again, and I'm applying for an art school next spring. Perfectionism was my biggest issue and I'm so glad that it doesn't seem to bother me as much anymore. Variety is good but don't stretch yourself trying to be 'complete'.

    My art mistake is i get bored of my art which makes me leave it alone. I barley like drawing. But i want to be an artist. So i force it. Its a habit at this point;;

      I sort of have a similar problem. I start drawing something, but then I can't seem to get back to it. It's usually because I'm busy, but when I'm not busy, I just feel too tired to do it

      Nepeta Lejion You can always try writing down ideas over time, then you can start drawing the ideas every now and then.

      Rico Marco Well, mspaint can be a little hard to use sometimes since it doesn't really have 'advanced' tools or help like a stabilizer.

      ImADrawingCookie that kind of doesn't really relate, since paint is quite simple to use.

    I was always imagining that I want to make a cartoon when I grow up... It was taking me forever to think about it... I don't like to draw my imagination just I wanted to think about it until I grow up. When I saw this video, I realised it that I was wrong because it's taking me forever to think about my imagination. Instead of imagining my dreams, I will draw it until I will improve. Thank you for making this video! ^^

    If you want to sound like a experienced artist, start drawing the day before your birthday, then when your birthday ends, you can say you have been drawing for a year 😏

      AwkwardAlee It doesn't take the fun out of it, it just makes the same statement true. What's the point of making your lie technically correct if you later just say it so it's just a lie again?

    Hey haley you probably won't see this but you inspired me to draw. I don't have a computer only an IPhone and It's easier for me to draw on the phone easier. I felt like my art was weird because I had different colored smoke, eyes, ground,trees etc and I felt that it was weird because it wasn't realism I'm still finding my style but your videos tell me that is ok

    • @noah_lot2842
      @noah_lot2842 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Red Master If/when you can get a computer, a drawing tablet really helps for drawing like on an iPhone or paper. I use an 8x6, but if you prefer a small screen like that of an iPhone there are also 4x3s or similar sized tablets. They're not too expensive if you're okay with getting a less fancy one; mine cost $40, and I've seen those smaller ones at about $20. If you want better software and/or more space to draw, it's a great upgrade. No matter what you choose to do, keep on drawing or doing whatever you want to do!
