When they were popular we had half a dozen 8.2 naturals in trucks. Still blew the odd head gasket but the drivers abused the hell out of them. The non turbo were really good on fuel. 10 mpg wasn’t uncommon.
I remember when they came out around 1980ish. My neighbor bought brand new fuel oil delivery trucks with them. None of them made it a year without blowing up or needing engine work. I think he bought 5 or 6 of them, he was pizzed. Somewhere around the 4rd year he repowered them all with 3208 Cats. After that he started buying IHC with DT466. He never bought a GM product again. I don't know anyone who bought an 8.2 that was happy with it
@@scottmcburney8938 Very few have the dial indiactor tool that is required to set the injector height. And these engines were actually good for the time. They are decades old now, so yes people will pay to remove em.

I always liked the sound of the 8.2 detroit not a power house but with a turbo a sweet engine.
Brave putting a turbo on that. Not enough head bolts
Open deck block as well. Recipe for a disaster.

Looks like a polished turd.
Sweet running engine!
Need to head stud those things and o-ring the block for sure. They sure do like spitting head gaskets.
