That boy snatching gears like there is no tomorrow. That’s amazing
Hahaha yup how you drive them Ole 2 strokes gotta slam your hand in the door before you drive (so you're pissed off at it)
Lol ... So true.
The throttle response on a two-stroke is way quicker than your than grandads Cummins or claterpiller. No better diesel that I know of. There are still a bunch out there making music.
Used to work on the 6L71 engines on the old Flxible transit buses and 4L71 as found in the Coast Guard’s motor surfboat when I was active duty Coast Guard.
Ese camión es una pasada 😍👍
I've been following Wayne (Ol' 2Stroker) for several years now, and I watched all the build videos when he and Jason were first getting the common rail set up and working correctly. It's amazing how quick he can shift that modded 13 speed!😲 It sounds like a first gen Honda 750-4 when it's up on the pipe!🤣 Curious to see what he does with the 12V-71 when he gets it stuffed in there!
8v92
What a wild build! Dude even figured out the ECU mating himself! What a legend!!
I had alot of help from Baldur on the ECU setup. I won't even pretend to know how all of that works. I'll take 25% of the credit for this thing actually running.
Wayne from the Ol2stroker channel is the man.
I agree, it even gets better when he's hanging around with bacon
8v92 2 stroke running castor 927 maxima 2 stroke oil feeding tge bottom end and running e-85

Wayne is great. One of my favourite TH-camrs. Straight up truck loving man. No gimmicks, just trucks.
That’s one hell of a truck and motor Jason had in that truck. Unbelievable job on all the custom mechanical work he did.
Look up the ''Bandag Bullet, two Detroit V8 joined together with Nos 3000hp SMOKES the Rear tires like you would Not Believe!!
@@barryphillips7327 you weren’t even the slightest exaggerating. That’s like back 40 years ago when I was a teen Art Arfons built the most amazing multi engine tracker pulling machine.
Two stroke diesels are 50% more powerful than a four stroke God I love those two stroke diesels. God bless, sir.
That guy that built that is a genius. That has some serious technology in that sleeper truck. That is cool.
I was standing there when you took those videos of him revving it. Came over and looked at your rigs too. Sucks they canceled the sled pull I wanted to see what those tracks could do.
How about a Detroit Diesel build off between Bruce, Tim Gentry and Wayne. My money is on Wayne. I was just watching Wayne latest video until TH-cam said Bruce had a new one out.
Wayne hands down!!
hell yeah its cool to see you share old2stroker! he is one of my fav youtubers!
Same here! Love that guy!
Bring on the subscribers, wanye deserves all the subs
Amazing taking an engine that dates back to 1938and making it competitive today thanks to an entire new modern fuel system 👍☝️👌. What a bad ass truck!
That's one of the coolest 2-stroke Detroit projects I've ever seen!
Look up General Lee truck pull. That 8v-71 is insane.
@@JimmyChambers-sc9oc I saw it and it most definitely is insane.
Perfect amount of shine and rust. That Ol GMC is so cool
Be really cool, if they still exist, if you showed these youngins the start up of an old air start. Coolest sound you will never forget. 👌😉👍💯
Oh man air starters are great!
Air starter motors are still made and sold. They absolutely still exist.
We had air starters for the 2cycle inline 12 opposed piston Fairbanks-Morse diesels and the GM V8 service generators onboard Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton WHEC715, and for the V18 ALCO 4cycle diesels onboard Coast Guard Cutter Spencer WMEC905. And we had air starters on the 6L72 Detroits in the Flexible transit buses for Broward County Transit in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.
Just remember, you still need adequate 24vdc and 12vdc to power up the ecu and other items in order to get the engine to start and stay running.
@@JaguarXJRman Dang... you sure got around back in the day. 👌😁👍
That self closing hood was a great safety idea! 😂
Great classic. That's the picture in the dictionary if you look up Beast Mode there's that truck right there
I'm not exactly a diesel guy, big block GM man, specifically Chevy rat motors, but I have always considered old Detroit two strokers to be the most reliable, bad ass diesel engines ever! 💯👍🇺🇲
Nice 2 Stroker Lorry, and also very powerful lorry nice!😎
Awesome to see that there's still smart people out there pushing the limits of their dreams & imagination. 💪
That truck and engine is absolutely awesome!
Sounds like a cammed firetruck I love it haha
I will get this to put in a museum and look at it for hours..this is a hell of a masterpiece from engine to everything..what a cool truck here
Very cool two stroke
That 2 stroke V8 sounds sick. 👍🏼
Jason Douglas has an awesome shop just south of STL and down the Street from me that does amazing work with Volkswagen vans and I love hear that truck rolling down the street.
It’s awesome I was about to post how cool it would be if someone built up an old school twin supercharged twin turbo charged Detroit 12V71TTA V-12. I’ve always loved the the sound of those old 2 stroke Detroit V8’s and V12’s. So unique, and you knew them when you heard them back in the day.
Detroit made them v-12-71tta , with bypass blowers & intercooler
@@ruxoneto6560 we also had a lot of equipment in my family’s company with the Detroit 12V92 and 16V92. They were always my absolute favorite sounding with straight pipes.
Bruce it was nice to meet you at the GBATS show and also your brother hope to keep more videos coming
I miss the days of the old diesel engines. Repairs didn't require a second mortgage but there is no debating that common rail with enough fuel wins
First diesel I drove had a Detroit Diesel 6v53 for a farmer and the last one is a 3406 Cat built B4 emissions were thought of . I loved that truck and floating the gears
Holy cow! I love that SEMI truck. That baby grows like a lion. You seriously hear that 2000HP just idling. Absolutely impressive 👍👍👍👍
That truck so amazing and the sound 14:27
The Mack and the blue truck kicked his a$$.
I heard the that thing fire at the show and it was amazing. Love the trucks bruce.
That truck is bad ass I love how it sits and shakes like it's just ready to rip
That’s one SICK truck!
How much rpm does that motor push, it sounds insane
Probably the usual for a Detroit, about 2500-3000. It's dual overhead cam and two stroke which gives it the unique sound which makes it seem like it's turning 8000+ RPM.
@@aperson4713Detroits are not overhead cam I would bet he’s spinning it a little higher than 3k but that’s just speculation
2200 rpm
@@DrRust dual overhead valve I meant. It's a 4v per cylinder engine.
Its way past 3000 rpm
Thanks for taking the time to check out such an awesome old truck. Jason Douglas has made something really cool with the Crusty Fat Cab. I follow him and Wayne at Ol2Stroker, I have met both guys numerous times and they are both great guys. Jason is like a mad scientist, I can’t wait to see the V12 version. Looking forward to seeing you and Brutus at Onaway in May 24. Thanks Again, Bruce.
Trucks pretty cool can he swing it and do donuts in the middle of an intersection with that thing?
Didn't think it was doable to achieve 2000 hp from a 12L two stroke V8 turbo diesel
I watch ole2stroker great channel love the old two stroke Detroit engines just awesome loud power lol thanks for sharing
This is awesome he done a wonderful job on the truck and especially the engine he is a heck of a mechanic to rig it up
Does that beast count as a "10-seconds-car" ???
Doing the quarter mile drag with a truck is so fucking insane! Great, guys!
2 ECUs in a master/slave setup communicating over CAN bus? There is some insanely clever engineering in this.
I had the pleasure of working at Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing Central from the mid 90's to early 00's. I will never forget that 2-stroke diesel sound coming out of the 8 dyno rooms.
Excellent video!!! I watched the build on Ol2Stroker's channel!
I rode in this truck prior to the common rail set up, it was fast then already!
Sled pulling is cool, but if you experimented with uphill drag racing....got dayum
I think you gotta put a 2 stroke detroit in something, Bruce... thing is nasty..
They blow up when he gets them. Keep it away from him.
CORRECTION : ALWAYS were common rail, just not the 'latest greatest' tech version
Jason’s machines ARE BADASS
Off the shelf marine injectors for the detroit get pretty gnarly so running out of injector options is nutty to me.
He had injectors from back in the day racing 250cc
I think Bruce would need a older Sisu truck in his fleet :)
Wow! That old girl ain’t no slouch. A lot of really powerful trucks there. Quebec, home of the clean air truck races.😳Vive Quebec.👍👍🇨🇦
First common rail Detroit that style that is an actual RIPPER💪 the build videos of this thing are definitely worth watching ❤❤
Sucks that 4 state canceled the pull! Saw your rides yesterday! Looked clean!
I Love an old school Detroit!
I had two 318 powered trucks in the 80's
😎 nothin beats old equipment with modern power.👍
That's far from modern. 😅
Thats a badass build with a v8 detroit!!!! I like this type of stuff!!!!
I'm a 63 years old gearhead and I am so impressed with the this Frankenstein. 🔩🕸️
This is magic, the sound, that meaty feeling of being connected to machine, this whole U.S. Trucking Culture is just romantic :) European is just technical, maybe a bit more comfortable but I feel like it has lost its mojo. With Scania being sold to germans it's an end of an era in European trucking - it was the last real manufacturer in my opinion with their V8 sounding magnificent. I used to ride inline 12 liter manual with chipped engine, this sound and overall feeling gave me so much joy it was enough to compensate inconveniences of this tough profession.
And I can see this 'europeisation' happening for some time in US with new models of old trucks. How do you guys feel about it? Do you like Cascadia being Mercedes in disguise?
I think the Renault T range is still made for the driver. I absolutely love them, the best modern truck imho. The engine brake still has that good chugging sound and the controls are so nice to use. They still feel like they have some soul left in them.
It is kinda cool how quiet and fuel efficient they can make modern trucks but they are definitely losing their soul. It's like driving a gaming computer attached to a 400hp tumble dryer rather than a mechanical diesel engine that chugs and grinds and sputters and feels alive.
@@thechongwolla yeah xD That sound you're describing brings up memories of driving Merc Actros Mp4. It really sounds like lawnomower with constantly breaking DPF system and no torque.
12:39 sounds like my dads honda.
I’ll be there tomorrow, I’m in Pacific, MO on a 10hr
That truck is just plain badass
I’m obsessed with 2 stroke diesels, I’ve been playing around in my garage making a 2 stroke diesel that doesn’t require a blower, I want to set a specific output record for NA diesel engines. Currently the Mercedes Benz OM 60x series is the highest output NA I’ve found, the 2.0 liter OM 604 puts out a tad under 100hp and therefore sets the bar at 50hp/ liter for NA diesel. Compared to NA spark 4 cycle engines on race gas (not alcohol) around 380hp/liter. I could be off on the gas record, many small 50cc engines could exceed that. I know of a 120cc compound turbo Honda ct110 that makes 60hp which would be 550hp/liter for turbo engines.
Playing around... you understand that 2-stroke engines require some sort of pressure difference for scavenging, whereas a 4 stroke doesn't right? There are good reasons as to why these engines were unsuccessful. Your only option with a diesel is using exhaust pulse, since crankcase scavenging like on the 2-stroke gasoline engines is not possible. The only engine that worked to some degree with that concept is the Crossley HST Vee 8. If you understand the physics then you'll also understand that the concept is only suited to engines that work at a very small rpm range, and will never achieve a high specific output.
You are spot in citing the OM604 having the highest specific output but in standard form it makes 94hp in 2.2liter form. But don't forget that Mercedes mainly increased the output through engine speed, not torque. These engines make their maximum power (in standard from ) at 5000rpm, which is unparalleled for this category of engine. Since diesel combustion is inherently slower than gasoline, it's not really an option to increase the engine speed much further as smoke increases sharply (and efficiency decreases).
Hell yeah that thing is sick
That is music to my old mechanic ears what a sweet sound!!!
2m57s in & I already love this! (and that goes for the red buggy in the scenery as wel ❤).... big regards from the Netherlands 🖐️
I love how some guys still love that motor and so do I cause my dad worked on them with Cummins and Mack and love hearing the SCREAMIN DEMONS IN THEM and BEST EVER SOUND OVER ALL MOTORS OUT THERE💪💪💪🥇🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆🍺🍺🍺Can't wait to hear the V12 now
The neat factor on this thing is off the charts - I love it!
Adapt this tech to a 16v149 and you are unstoppable. It makes 1,060 hp stock. You could get 6k easily with the electronic common rail and bigger turbos.
Also, if you haven't already, extend the intake ports up so that way you can get boost into the cylinder after the exhaust valves close.
Those are the semis behind me when I get on the freeway in front of them, when I’m behind them they suddenly have 90hp 😂
I love the sound of a Detroit. There is nothing that sounds better
God I love a Detroit two stroke. Music to my ears...
That thing is badass!
Pretty cool. Especially considering that's not a high dollar pro built engine.
Just solid muscle.
That was amazing Detroit Diesel Muscle 💪💯
I think thats the best sounding detroit ive ever heard!
I didn't think there could be anything that sounded more beautiful than a gas two-stroke... I was wrong,
Beautiful work
Very cool!! Love the old Cannonball Jimmy's!!
Was at the truck show in Joplin but missed seeing you there
THAT OL'GIRL GOTS SOME PEP. THATS SSWEEETTT !!!!!!!!! AWESOME CONTENT GUYS. 🤠🤠
Wayne the best!
That is awesome. Great engineering!
keep the clips coming
That thing is super cool!
Wow that's absolutely awesome. One of the trucks I first learned to drive a semi in was a Freightliner conventional with an 8v71 and a 13speed road ranger... Where does it redline? How much boost is he making and what kind of 1/4 mile time and speeds is it turning?
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Love the old truck & the story behind it. And it was previously a wrecker?! My dad had one like it. The engine sounded like it wanted to scream like a typical Detroit engine does & was happy to show its power. Looked like he was jammin on those gears!! WOW! It was good to see that beast roll! 🥰😎✌️
That was so great to watch and these trucks sounds better than any modern sports cars.
BAD FUCKING ASS!
The guy’s a wizard …! Hats off mate !
Just plain BADASS..
This thing would be insane in Snowrunner
This engine is unbelievable!
That sounds incredible and goes like hell....
amazing and creative I love original stuff, great job
Super cool!
Could common rail ever make it possible to see the return of the Detroit? I always wanted to make a common rail Fairbanks Morse back in the day, thought lean burn and EFI could make the engine viable again. I was going to do it, until I realized that I couldn't do it; what I lack in intelligence, I make up for in laziness.
What a work of art
Hell yeah, love that beast!!
What an absolute ripper! I love it
