What I do is I buy Kymppi mämmi in a big box and a 2dl pack of oatly vanilla sauce. When I get home I dump the vanilla sauce on the mämmi, spread it out evenly and put it in the freezer. Once the vanilla sauce has frozen I eat it frozen. Usually I eat it half a box at a time. Vanilla ice cream also works remarkably well with mämmi.
I think Kymppi is the "most people go to" -mämmi, because it's usually available from freezer year-round pretty much everywhere, but also available unfrozen during easter time. And it's my favourite too! The rest of the brands are pretty much just seasonally available products, however I think Saarioinen is great, too!

Kymppi mämmi is absolutely number one for me, too. Affordable and good, in small portions. I ate once too much a big 700g box in one go lol I dont recommend doing it to anyone, too much is always too much. Then the kind of heavy consistance and taste goes blääh, lol. The former cross-country skier Juha Mieto loves to eat his mämmi and a lot of it, I think he mentioned once eaten 40+ big boxes of mämmi during the easter weeks.
I'm not surprised at all. The one and only Kymppi-mämmi = the best with cream-milk (half a thick cream and half a fat free milk) but no added sugar on the surface. Thanks for the test. I almost forgot to take Kymppi-mämmi from a freezer and Easter is tomorrow.
Kymppi Luomumämmi (organic) is even better! It is also without added sugar, but it is traditionally sweetened only using the sugars in rye and malt. At first I thought it would be no good, but I was surprised when I tasted it. It really doesn't taste sugarless (well, I also add a lots of cream and sugar on top of it)! The only mämmi I would trust was the Kymppi Mämmi, but now the Luomu one is my go to mämmi!
The Kymppi -mämmi is the regular one, the best, the one and only. Has always been. I have tasted so many mämmis but every year I go for Kymppi. And served with cream, no sugar because there is already sugar added. Sometimes my mother-in-law makes mämmi and she doesn't add sugar so you need to add it just before eating but never sugar with regular mämmis sold in the supermarket.
Thing is, the vast majority of all mämmi is made by kymppi (in the mid-2000) it was about 95%). Now, there is a HUGE difference in taste BUT if you somehow can manage to get your hands on unfrozen mämmi, that is it has never been frozen at any stage of production or resell, that one is positively awesome. Freezing changes the texture and taste and though you can buy unfrozen in the stores it has in all likelihood been frozen at some point. If you get a spoonful of non-frozen... Well... You'll know you hit the jackpot
My favorite is the Hoviruoka Imelletty mämmi in the bigger box and I enjoy it only with itself or very rarely with vanilla custard. I don't even like other mämmi's... Tipumämmi is the only one 😂
All the way from my childhood my parents have bought 10 Mämmi and after few experiment i have come to conclusion that it´s the best. Nice video and i hope to both of you Happy Easter! :)

I eat mämmi for the cream and sugar, i don't really like mämmi as it self but as a finnish i feel that mämmi is something you should eat at easter. In some cases milk goes with mämmi as well if i don't have home some cream
The reason for having multiple manufacturers of Mämmi is that it is only sold about 2 weeks of the year and no single brand could make enough of it, it is not wise to invest in manufacturing capacity for such a short seasonal products.. But i have never found them tasting any different. And mämmi should be floating in cream and sugar, not just little bit but drowned.
I'm not too big fan of Mämmi's or that's what I tought untill I found "Kinuski-Kaakao" by Kymppi few years ago. Like the name says it's got cocoa and fudge (?) in it too

Great video, thanks for doing the comparison! I'm not surprised that Kymppimämmi won, it has been my favorite basically always. Saarioinen is okay too. A few years ago I tried a brand that you didn't have here in this video and it was absolutely disgusting. I almost threw up after my first spoonful. No amount of sugar or cream made it edible, so it went straight into the trash.
As a fellow Brit in Finland my Finnish family expected me to dislike mämmi however I think it's delicious. I think the equivalent test for me has been getting Finns to try marmite..
Now I'm convinced that I don't need to buy any other mämmi than Kymppi ever again. :D Which is the one I always buy and like the best! (I've tried others too but they're not as good.) :)))
Kymppimämmi is definitely the best. You can buy it in a large "birch"-box from most markets. It's almost always sold out. I have to buy many at the same time it doesn't ran out and I live alone 🙄
I have always bought Kymppi and I have usually been a bit disappointed if offered one of the others. Recently I bought Saarioinen and found it to be quite similar to (and as good as) Kymppi.
And Dave... The imelletty mämmi is the original one, not diet version. Mämmi is usually made that way, without sugar. And Hoviruoka's mämmi is better in the big box than in that plastic pot.

I think I'm different in many ways, but I am genuinely the only finn I know who eats plain mämmi. I only use some vanilla sauce, if it's offered, but I never use any sauces or sugar by myself. One could say that I'm a social mämmier, since I don't eat much mämmi overall.

I'm currently doing my exchange in Asia and how I miss Mämmi! I was hoping there would be a finnish cafe or something where I could get my yearly portion of Mämmi but no.. I'm also going to miss May 1st foods like tippaleipä or sima (I have an exam on May 1st so no any kind of festive atmosphere in here). Can you do sima blind taste test next? I've only tried one brand, Fazer, caaaause that's the only brand I've found here in sweden lol. It was really good though imo. Of course I have nothing to compare it to so, maybe it's just a 1 on the mämmi scale.
Kymppi mämmi has always been the standard mämmi for me, so I was interested in seeing if I should try the other brands. I suppose there's a reason why it holds its place as the most popular mämmi year after year. :) Nowadays my stomach can't stand rye though, so mämmi make me feel absolutely terrible. But I think I'll still have to buy a small cup of it. With a mix of Flora Vanilla cream and milk, no sugar!

I could have saved making the video, as 10 mammi is only one I like and by like I mean you put a sprinkle of sugar and a bit of milk, no cream allowed.
