True 😅 Honestly it never felt small to me, with the layout of the unit and everything. However, when I would tell family & friends who live in suburbs about it, they thought I was crazy for paying "that much" for such a "small space". I told them it's all about my location lol.
After I moved out of this unit, they renovated it again and now it's a studio I believe.

I love the tile in the bathroom. So typical of Chicago. I would definitely pay the 12 - it looks like a practical layout. Seems cozy and you’ve designed it in such a way that it appears larger than it actually is. Also the Windows and amount of sun ☀️ you get in is amazing and so vital. Love it.

Great little apt, and love the light! The kitchen is bigger than those in most small apts. I like your zones, and you are very organized! I've only been to Chicago once but loved the energy!

When I stayed at an AirBnB in Lincoln Park last year, it didn't seem too much bigger than yours but managed the space relatively better. I checked out another unit for rent in the same building with the same floor plan and it was something like $1400/mo
That's probably my biggest issue with this apartment, the layout is unique but kinda wacky. It's a direct result of the changes they made about 50 years ago when they divided a larger apartment into two smaller ones. What really put it over the top for me was the immense amount of natural light and the somewhat recent renovation. 😎

Lol very carefully! Since the lockdown began, it's been a bit more cramped in there with stocking up on groceries and eating every meal at home, but somehow we're still managing 😂
I've got some friends in NYC and they pay a lot more for smaller spaces so in that way I definitely feel blessed.

@@nibirue Yeah but that's in the suburbs. Only way you paying $1200 for a 2 bedroom in Chicago is on the west and south sides. You are not going to find that on the north side. I know Chicago very well.

$1200 is a steal! I live in dt Toronto and I pay more for a studio but it's also in my favourite neighborhood and it's extremely well priced for where it is.
Thanks, I honestly thought it was a great deal considering. Since you live downtown in a major world city you understand those tradeoffs when choosing a place to live. I've always wanted to visit Toronto, hopefully within the next couple of years
Love it! It doesn't feel small. The alcove in your bedroom is crying out to be (white) shelving though. The dark grey shelves make it look cluttered.😁

It’s not too small. The price a bit steep but that seems like that’s current pricing for apartments nowadays. I enjoyed your tour. I like that door lock. Had a lock like that I the 70s as a kid.
You’re apt is perfect! Your kitchen is sufficient, all that matters right? Queen bed? Perfect! Room for a desk with what you need…Small all you need, for now anyway! 😉👍 I have to tell you Louis, we pay just a little over that for out 4bdrm/2 bath home in Northern Ca. 😯

It's a nice looking apartment, pretty roomy
for five hundred square feet and the view is awesome.
I believe rent is too high everywhere and it would be nice if we could find some relief from the high cost of rent in studios and small apartments but they too are pretty high these days. On a short term basics I think it's great but short term often turns into long term when it comes to renting🙂
Do people in Chicago call it a washroom too? I thought only us Canadians do that. I remember being in a big synagogue in New York and I asked where the washroom was and people didn't know what I meant. When I explained, they thought it was really quaint and told each other about the Canadian who calls a bathroom "the washroom."

Im Southside Chicago & pay 650 for 500 sq ft for my studio!your rent is kinda expensive but for that Lincoln park area its expected! Great tour my man!oh i peeped the sneaker game! 🔥🔥

That’s still bigger than most of the apartments they are building near my office in Long Island City, NY.
For someone relocating to Chicago and have heard the horrible stories about the shootings etc what would be consider the safe areas to look for an apartment or home at that’s also affordable?
The majority of neighborhoods in the city are safe and there are many great ones to choose from including Wicker Park, Hyde Park, Kenwood, Lakeview, Edgewater, South Loop, Pilsen, etc.
What a deal!
Many apartments were cut up to add more units after WW2. There was a severe shortage of apartments and many buildings were modified at that time.
Ah ok, that makes sense. The more I read, the more I learn about the changes to city & suburban life after WW2

Hi Louis your apartment is not that small didn't expect a bedroom. If the area is good 1200 its not that bad life is a trade off.
It felt smaller during lockdown lol, I actually moved into a new place in mid-July that's much bigger. Yea I definitely felt like it was a good compromise.
