      I agree! I was watching an old vlog before babies for editing inspo, and I was shocked at how different my personality seems!! Lol!! I think I also was struggling a lot in the vlogs before Bodie’s pregnancy because we were TTC for a whole year and it was very difficult to go through. At the time I didn’t open up about it, but now I wonder if I had, if it would have been a load off.

    These kinda vlogs are so fun so comforting, make you feel so relaxed. I honestly think you’re one of the best examples Caitlin for traditional living/being a housewife. You don’t yell or scream or call people names, you aren’t super aggressive or abrasive all the time. Through your life and through the choices you make it becomes really clear how fulfilled you are and how happy honoring the Lord through being there for your family truly is. I can’t imagine how anyone could truly dislike you personally. Anyone can disagree with opinions or ideas but as a lady as a mom and as a wife Caitlin you’re amazing and a lot of people could better their lives by taking an example from you. God Bless you your hubby and your beautiful babies. We love you and pray for you!

    This might seem like a strange thing to say, but I love how "normal" your house is. That's not to say it's not beautiful, because it absolutely is - so many of your Insta snaps are on my Pinterest boards! - but when i look at your home, it inspires me to make little changes to beautify my home, not tear it all up and start again. Some creators have homes that look like show homes, and they make you want to drop thousands redecorating your space. Most of us don't have that kind of money - I know I don't! But your home is so full of warmth and intention - this is the kind of home we should aspire to have, not these grey and white palaces that look like art installations or dentists waiting rooms. No hate if your home is like that, but it's not acheivable/sustainable for most people. Beautiful, intentional, curated homes are just so beaitutiful. Slow decorating, people!

      And I remember commenting along with probably hundreds of other people that you would be an excellent mother and that it is different when you actually have children because you forget what it was like to not have them and you realize that the love is not a love that you develop like with your husband or a friendship but it's an immediate love that is so strong you would give up anybody's life for it. I got pregnant when my daughter was only 5 months old and it significantly affected my milk supply so I had to give up breastfeeding much sooner than I was planning and I definitely related to your feelings about it! We are still providing for our babies even if they have to take bottles, we still love and care for them just as much as women who can breastfeed for as long as they desire! So proud of you for sharing! Thank you for the encouragement!💕

      Your cycle won't return that soon (I'm sure there are very rare exceptions) if you bed share and nurse completely on demand. If you are interested research ecological breastfeeding. Many women in communities who practice this have around a 2 or 3 year gap between births. I don't know about you but it's also great not having to experience a cycle. I am nursing my daughter and I got pregnant with her the first time I ovulated when my son was 18 months old and nursing. I am 34 and haven't had a menstrual period since I was 29. I really don't miss it.

    Registered dietitian here-- for anyone reading this, know that FED is BEST! Breastmilk, formula... the experts say that fed is the outcome we're striving for, so try to ignore the haters! The immune components of breastmilk are good for baby, but that's never worth starving a baby and the physical/mental torment when you're struggling to nurse.

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm curious...is it an either/or situation?
      Will the baby no longer accept breast milk, once you start bottle feeding?
      Because it often sounds, like you can't do some breast milk and then add a bottle, if the baby is still hungry. Or am I misunderstanding this?

    • @kayoss2306
      @kayoss2306 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raraavis7782 some people do both but it's not always completely straight forward. Some babies develop a strong preference for breast or bottle and won't accept one. Also breastmilk is a supply and demand thing, so if you're demanding less milk from your breasts because baby is filling up on formula then that can have a negative effect on your milk supply. Your body will only make as much milk as it thinks your baby needs, based on how much milk is being drained from your breasts. Some people really struggle to get their milk supply up if they're using formula too.

      Ah, thanks for explaining!
      I just assumed, you could give the baby a little extra and that was that. But I guess, it's a little more complicated!

    • @NormieNeko
      @NormieNeko 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that the social class of the mother affects the health of the child moreso than whether breast milk or formula is being used. A formula fed baby from the upper middle class is generally less likely to be sick than a breast fed baby from the working class or lower middle class. Immunity is a lifelong endeavor that can be easily retarded by unhealthy eating habits when the baby becomes a young child.
      I've noticed this in both my sister-in-laws and their children, anyway. The middle class one breastfed all 4 until about age 1. They are all constantly sick with something (it's almost ridiculous). The other is lower middle class with 3 who were mostly or exclusively formula fed. The youngest 2 are hardly ever sick, and the oldest, who was exclusively formula fed, has almost perfect immunity.
      They both feed them a lot of junk food though, so it may come down to DNA (the kids' fathers' or what was passed down from both maternal grandfathers). I could go on about the family's addictions yet ability to live long with minimal side effects.

    Formula was created so babies can survive. This isn’t a new thing, women of different decades have been struggling to feed their babies and unfortunately with formula not being available durning the dark ages those babies died, praise God for these blessings of the modern day. It is incredibly painful and I would like desperately to switch, but haven't because of the shame and pressure. You even sharing the bit you have has really helped so much. It's so helpful watching vlogs like this, as a new mom I'm feeling isolated and like everything I do is wrong in one way or the other. Last saturday I went out and literally had my earlobes pierced after holding off on it for almost 30 years. Also I ordered a ton of leaflets on different Master's programs that I won't be able to pursue for years now. Talk about an identity crisis lol. You are an inspiration to me right now, not in a grandiose way but in a quiet and wholesome way. Thank you.

    • @JenniferoftheSea
      @JenniferoftheSea 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yay for getting your ears pierced! So fun! I can relate to the identity crisis. I just wanted to share a few things as a mom of four who still sometimes struggles. You are still you. Being a mother is now part of you and probably outside of "wife' if you are one, the most defining thing about you. You have given life, you've reproduced another human and that human will rely on you and be defined and shaped by your love and instruction in ways that you can't imagine. You aren't doing anything wrong. If your baby is fed and changed, focus on just loving them, enjoying them, and creating a schedule that works for you both. Focus on getting to know the new person in your life and tell yourself how amazing you are and what an amazing gift of motherhood you have been given. Having said that, you still have all the same talents and interests (though interests may change a lot) you had before. You're still you. It's just an adjustment period figuring out how your goals and interests fit into your new responsibities and your own personal capacity. I planned on going to law school. I decided not to. I have another friend with four daughters that she homeschools and still practices law part time. I don't have that capacity, but the change in circumstances opened up a whole new world and I have a home based career that I find incredibly satisfying. I would just say remove all expectations and don't compare yourself to others. Enjoy each day, even though they sometimes are excruciatingly hard and know that you will figure things out. You are doing something that matters. Children matter, the home and how children are viewed, cared for, the atmosphere that's created, their relationship with Mom and Dad is what upholds society, it's what produces healthy (or unhealthy) people and affects future generations. What you are doing is incredible, Mama. 💞

    I love how open you are being with this chapter in your life of motherhood, a lot of us can relate and take knowledge from it! Your birth stories helped me a lot, as mine was similar, and now your journey with breastfeeding also makes me feel seen! I wish I could be a stay at home mom/homemaker but I can’t right now, and might not ever be able to. I exclusively breastfed my daughter until I was 9 weeks PP and went back to work, then my supply dropped and I was never able to get it back fully. At my daughters 4 month check up they said she wasn’t gaining weight like she should and I felt like a failure because I had to supplement with formula. My supply only got worse and I still try to pump, however she’s almost exclusively on formula and I just add breast milk to her food or maybe give her an once in her bottle every now and then. It’s so hard on me emotionally that I can’t provide the amount she needs to get as much nourishment as possible, and I know there’s other women that feel the same way, but it does feel like you’re alone when you’re going through it.

    Caitlin, thank you so much for sharing about your breastfeeding struggles, I am only 21, no children yet, and I can’t even begin to tell you how many nights I have sat up and cried over the possibility that my body will just not allow me to breastfeed. I have a breast deformity that could or could not affect my ability to breastfeed. It sounds silly to think about breastfeeding while having no children but as you said some women in this community emphasize traditionalism extremely to the point where even the thought of not being able to breastfeed makes me feel almost guilty. Seeing you get emotional about it made me feel like I wasn’t alone. The way that you’ve handled this with grace gives me hope that god will equip me to handle what ever may come of my situation gracefully.
    I’ve been watching you since I was 18 and you’ve really opened my eyes to this lifestyle in the best way possible. I have family members that are stay at home moms but do it in such a performative way, bashing other women for not being able to do what they do. I love and appreciate how you acknowledge how much of a blessing it is to stay home with your boys and for your husband. You inspired me to find my way back to god, to relax and live more femininely, and to always stay humble and remember why we’re doing what we’re doing. They way you share your life with us is so different from what I’ve seen from other stay at home moms in my life, you’re supportive of women and the choices they make for themselves or their family, you recognize this gift, and you carry yourself so gracefully. My mother worked full time and couldn’t be there for me as much as she would have liked so thank you for being a good role model for us younger girls that aren’t there yet but are interested in taking the more traditional route❤️ I hope that since your husbands gone back to work that you’ve been able to get some time for yourself too, praying for the health, saftey and prosperity of your family❤️

    • @MrsMidwest
      @MrsMidwest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know exactly what you are talking about! There is soooo much pressure about performing traditional femininity and motherhood “correctly” and as naturally as possible. But it’s simply not feasible for all of us and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. People really need to relax about all of this stuff! It takes so much joy away from motherhood. And isn’t that the goal of all the traditional natural stuff anyways? Happy families? Well… my family is plenty happy and I didn’t do motherhood the way a lot of traditional people think it should be done. And the crazy thing ? You’d never know Bodie wasn’t breastfed. He is so so so so attached to me, and our bond is incredible. I look forward to seeing him every morning and we spend all our days together. You will have that too, whether or not you can breastfeed. Your bond with your baby will not be less, no matter what they try to fear monger you with. And I’m sorry that you feel so much guilt and pressure and you’re not even a mum yet. Xo

    Hi lovely, what a wonderful video! I too ended up having a c-section and then couldn’t breastfeed for more than a week. Felt like a complete failure and a midwife named Margaret told me “fed is best my love, stop being so hard on yourself”. My son had lost a lot of weight from me trying to breast feed and then ended up having jaundice and being under lamps for a few days. The whole thing was so upsetting and to this day, 5 years on I still feel upset that I didn’t get my unmedicated water birth and breastfeeding journey. I do hope to have another child and would try again but now I am so much more realistic, I know how to recover from a c-section and which bottles are the best etc etc
    I just thank you so much for speaking on it even though it is private and upsetting to you. It is so helpful when people tell their stories when there were struggles so that people who have been through the same know we’re not alone and people who haven’t know that it’s a possibility and can be open minded ❤️ you’re an amazing mother and wife! Thank you again 🥰

    Thank you so much for your honesty! I also struggled to breastfeed both of the kids I have so far. I was so depressed about it the first time around, but perspective helps a ton. When your kids get to be a bit older (my oldest is 4) and parenting is about so much more (I think it can feel like breastfeeding is the only “measure of success” in those early months- that’s how I felt the first time around anyway), you get to see how they’re thriving in large part because of all the love and thoughtfulness you’ve poured into them!
    I can also see now how God has used this struggle to make me trust and rely on Him more. Blessings to you and yours!!

    Aww I want to give you the biggest hug! It’s so brave to open up. You have become a new person postpartum this time. You are strong and confident and you’re positively glowing. All those emotional changes are visible on the outside. I’m so proud of you ❤️
    I’m so proud of you for sharing about breastfeeding. Not for anyone but yourself. No one cares how you feed your baby but I know you do. The only judgement comes from ourselves and that it can be so tough! Sharing means you’re healing and that’s beautiful.

    Caitlyn, thank you. Thank you for this channel and being YOU and showing that to the world. As a homemaker and mom to a toddler, I find your channel to be so inspiring and heart warming. When I need motivation to do some homemaking or when I’m feeling down, I often find myself watching your videos. See, I didn’t grow up with a stay-at-home mom, rather a single mother that was constantly stressed out and just trying to make ends meet. I never had an example of what homemaking or being a stay at home mom truly meant or looked like, and that’s why channels like yours mean so much to me! You say you’re not perfect and that you’re scared to be vulnerable, but just know that that’s okay. In fact, sharing with us your struggles makes you so relatable and I’m sure many of us SAHMs feel so much less alone knowing others are going through similar struggles. You are so a blessing to this world, and you should be so proud of your beautiful family. You are doing fantastic job! You’re husband and children are so incredibly lucky to have you ❤️

    Dear Caitlyn, thank you for being so open about your struggles as a new mom. As a new mom myself i know just how hard it can be. I'm sorry you were not able to have the breastfeeding experience you wished for. We are all just doing our best and that is enough! xxx

    Thank you for touching on breastfeeding ❤️
    I am the only one of my family who used formula when I physically couldn’t produce enough for my boys after a few months. No matter how hard I tried. I’ve always felt lesser for it, despite knowing how silly it sounds. Anyone who has tried to breastfeed and failed knows how agonizing it is to try so hard and fail.

      Absolutely!! I think that’s something I’m most happy I can move on from now that the babies are older. It feels like such a huge part of your identity and world at the time, but now that Bodie is growing up, I feel like I’ve gained a lot of perspective.

      I’m glad! I wanted to share for this exact reason. I found out a couple of my favorite bloggers didn’t breastfeed and it made me feel seen and happy. It’s important to connect with other women about these things!

    I also have never breastfed my children past a few weeks. I just never got much milk. With my first I didn't get any milk and I had to fight for formula in hospital. I understand the identity crisis part, but honestly it gets better with each child, with number 4 I chose formula from birth and I couldn't care less what people think. Babies don't care how they're fed. Love you!

    I'm so glad you opened up about Reynaud's and how it affects pregnancy/post-partum. I have Reynaud's but I never even thought about how it would affect pregnancy and breastfeeding... now I can be more prepared about complications if and when I do have children, so this has been truly helpful. Thank you for your honesty 💛

    • @MrsMidwest
      @MrsMidwest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely!! I didn’t make the connection until another TH-camr mentioned how reynauds made breastfeeding impossible for her and her daughter. Everything clicked!! It won’t necessarily cause complications for you, but just like you said: now you can be prepared and on the look out!!

    Awww yes THE couch! Saw it on Instagram already, it does look lovely. Happy to see you are thriving. Really appreciated the "real talk" about your struggles, those kinda things are never easy to share, I applaud your bravery for sharing it online! Sometimes we watch / follow influencers and feel like they have it perfect whilst us "normal folk" seem to struggle so much more. You are keeping it real, and that's so important!
    Thank you for brightening my day!
