FILM DESCRIPTION:
In a tiny California town, high school students Brian (Kevin Dillon), Meg (Shawnee Smith) and Paul (Donovan Leitch) discover a strange, gelatinous substance that melts the flesh of any living creatures in its path. The deadly substance gets into the town's sewer system, where it begins growing uncontrollably, occasionally emerging to feast on unsuspecting townspeople. A military clean-up crew is sent to eliminate the menace, but it may end up doing more harm than good.

0:15 Back in 1988 me and my friends were sitting close to the back of the movie theater as it was showing this movie and at this part, there were 4 teen girls sitting behind us that just started screaming like crazy and pointing to the roof of the theater! So everyone started running out of the theater as a mob and to this day I still have not seen the entire movie yet.

It’s more terrifying than the original by a long slide. It’s just a better move overall definitely a huge improvement over the original.
The half melted woman on the floor still creeps me out to this day.
Just the flicker of the light adds to the nightmare fuel.
The escaping scenes in the cinema are so heartbreaking, damn it.

Imagine if this thing exists but right now, where most people are so out of shape that some politicians and body image activists treats fit people like mythical creatures! It makes me wonder if I could run as fast as the characters in this movie.
If it helps, if you pause at certain scenes, you can see the members actually smiling and laughing as they run out.
This was a fun film to be in

I love that they used the light flicker to hide that it was stop motion.
This would make a great PSA on what happens when you constantly chatter in a theater, including on your cellphone during a movie.

It's pretty funny that the Blob can make random squealing pig noises without lungs or a mouth.
Well, the Blob consumes every organism it came into contact with. It could be possible that it absorbs voice boxes, hence the unearthly sounds, and Brains, hence more sapience, from said organism.
(And when I say Organism, I mean not just humans. Animals aren't exempt with the Blob. It just prefers Humans more.)

@@cubanjens It eats animals too. In the novelization the first government investigators follow its track and find a slime trail with the digested remains of animals all throughout the woods. At that point they still don't know what it is. But it explains how it got so big in the beginning without eating that many people.

It's actually a poster for the Slasher movie the kids were watching, the poster is supposed to be a parody of Jason.

If you pause the scene at the 1:01 mark and play it frame by frame, you'll notice that there's no tentacles touching the guy, he just went flying for no reason.
He was so terrified by The blob he went straight to heaven.

The ceiling thing is cool, but it would have worked just as well if it rolled out over the floor. Imagine the audience trying to jump up and run as their feet and legs dissolve.

I love both the original 1958 Blob and the 1988 reboot , and it wouldn't be The Blob without the Blob attacking and eating people at a movie theater! There was a scene in Beware! The Blob ( AKA Son Of Blob ) where The Blob attacked everyone at a bowling alley!!!

Seriously, I think these movies are ripping each other off. It goes back to "Psycho", which includes the most ripped off scene ever. It's in just about every horror movie that has come after. Of course, the one having a shower ends up dead.

@@majorfanboy2005 thats real... so uh not really no. just like 2D animation and stop motion practical effects are a dying artform that has been mostly replaced by CGI. besides terrifier 1 and 2 i cant think of many movies released over the past 5 years that used mainly practical effects. CGI is cheaper and takes far less time than using practical effects which is why its used more. theres also less risk of injuries.

What I don’t get is why the blob went after these three when there was plenty of more “food” for it in the theater that hadn’t escaped yet
My guess is that everyone else got out that wasn't eaten and, compared to the 1958, what we know about this particular blob's origin it was able to sense its victims in someway or another.

They were the closest and had little movement compared to everyone else traipsing out of the theatre. It’s opportunistic.

I was genuinely worried for that boy because I knew this movie doesn’t hold back. I would not have put it past them to have a child die on screen.

over the seats and engulfed them. Not sure the rules of horror
films but this violated some kind of rule so it had to be cut out.

Ahh the movie theater experience ,good times...that was until high prices, mass shootings, Covid19, online streaming,..and blob attacks ruined the experience..dang blobs, you would've thought after the incident in 1958, they would've developed a contingency plan for this sorta thing.
I love that the Blob is revealed with the lights flickering, really makes it seem like you're only getting glimpses of the creature that helps preserve the tension of "Where is it? Is it near me? IS IT ON ME?"

In Washington there was a weird incident where white blobs were falling from the sky.
Anyone who touched the blobs directly got incredibly sick and to this day it is unresolved where they came from.
One of the residents took some of the blobs to a doctor to have them examined and they found they contained white blood cells that were downright not human in any way.

I'm 41 remember watching this when I was a kid. It's absolutely horrifying.

Just want to say that the kids did it to themselves, tried and insisted with the only not working emergency door, that seems to be chained.
Then they go for another emergency door that brings a dead road with no way to leave, that theater was NOT following safety standards.
Just watched the original 1958 scene and wow, this version was actually terrifying.
I have a friend who _only_ watched the 50s version and didn't even know there was a 80s version. She said she liked the 50s one a lot, so I at the very least wanted to show her the 80s version since I personally considered it the better one between the two. After the theater scene, she said, "There is no competition, the 80s one is just straight up better."

this is why I can't stand horror movies, instead of running for an open exit the kids picked a locked door. . . .absolutely genius. What's even worse is they try to get the door open which seems to be for a few minutes before Meg arrives which she leads them right across the theater to another exit that isn't locked, they never once thought to try the other side that wasn't blocked off by the blob.
There was only two exits that go to if they tried to go to the main exit The Blob could have gotten to them quickly as the blob moved way faster than it should so is really their only Resort
