"Predator 2" (1990): Urban Jungle and a Deadlier Predator
Released in 1990, "Predator 2" is a science fiction action film directed by Stephen Hopkins. The movie is a sequel to the 1987 hit film "Predator" and takes the action from the jungle to the urban jungle of Los Angeles. The film features an even deadlier and more technologically advanced Predator hunting its prey in a gritty and crime-ridden city. Starring Danny Glover as Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, the film explores themes of urban violence, drug cartels, and police corruption, all while delivering intense action sequences and suspense.
Set in the near future of 1997, the movie showcases the Predator's adaptability as it uses the city's infrastructure to its advantage. The film also expands the lore of the Predator species, revealing more about their hunting practices and the existence of multiple Predators. While "Predator 2" didn't achieve the same iconic status as its predecessor, it remains a cult classic among fans of the franchise, known for its high-octane action and memorable scenes.
The film's blend of science fiction, horror, and action elements, along with its unique setting, adds a distinct flavor to the Predator series and demonstrates the franchise's ability to evolve and explore new environments. "Predator 2" is a noteworthy installment that has continued to capture the imagination of sci-fi and action enthusiasts over the years.

The Gang Remakes Predator 2
What I loved about this scene is that you see that there is a code of honor and respect that the predators have for someone who defeats one of their kind. It's not easy by any means. So when a human does it, it's like "Ok we'll leave you alone"
Because as the prey, defeating the hunter commands respect among their kind…it doesn’t demand retribution. The Yautja will spend days/weeks stalking and scouting their prey. They know your strengths and weaknesses, and know they have every tool they need to deal with you. When the prey gets a victory, they truly earned that shit.
I want to know what the Predator said after "Take It"@@thewu910
I think its like culling the herd and they want the strongest to reproduce to keep their skills top notch.
That's what I've always liked too bc they're there the whole time, but instead of helping another predator they let the fight play out bc the only thing worse then death for a predator is having to be helped by other predators which has to be something any true predator would be ashamed of
It wasn’t that at all. There was a little respect. But they would have jelled him if he hadn’t dropped his weapon
To this day I don't understand why this movie was so hated.
Sure its not nearly as iconic or quotable as the original, but it captured the spirit, while also having its own identity. Not to mention that it MASSIVELY expanded on the lore with this ending scene. Showing us that most of the Yautja , for better and for worse, put honor first.
Maybe the critics of their time scored it low? I think in those times people paid more attention to them. This movie stands in its own with confidence.
I really want to like it, i even have all the Predator figures and the Neca trophy wall, but the problem i think is that this is exactly the same as the firts one but now in the city, that is just not interesting, like, in the first movie the pred was huntting highly trained soldiers armed to the teeth, its a super good movie that makes you think you are watching commando and boom then it becomes a slasher/cifi suspense movie and at the end it becomes just Arnold and the pred going at it, is just so rich, and catartic, but in this one he is huntting.... well just cop and well gansters too stupid to stand on his way..... is just not ass good, there needs to be a hook like in the first one. In the first one the character i think is called Billy the expert tracker starts figuring out what is happening, and at the end he goes for a 1v1 with the pred and he gets wrecked of course, but earns his right to be turn into a trophy, in this one they have the same scene... but is a Vudu gang leader that wasnt stablished up to that point, and then i guess he just gets the same treatment? like i said, the same but now in the city is not as good as the first one.
@@Thegeoboti wouldn't say the same treatment. The leader had his head removed and Billy they showed predator cleaning a skull to put with others as a trophy. In the second one the predator just takes the dudes head and walks off with it lol.
@@NickJaime but the Predator in part 2 also cleans the skull and puts it into the trophy wall with the rest. Haha i just saw it last night, is a fine movie, all im saying is they tried to hit the same plot points but in a different location, i think it needed something more to make the movie more worldwide like the first one. I love the weird gang leader "his foundation lie in the Holly mountain, selaah" then he gets his head cut off lol.
Because the black guy is the main hero. Racism prevailed.
Back when he wasn't too old for this shit 😂

They bounced because they were also too old for that shit.
@@Mechadondadanah bud, it wasn’t their hunt so they didn’t interfere. They also respect survivors and other predators from different species so now the hunt was over there was nothing for them to do but leave
@@SlideIX Nah bud, in the directors cut, the Yaujta leader pulled off his mask and said in a gravely voice, “Immm tooo old for this shiiittt.” Then Harrigan said “Get the fuck off my planet, beeyotch!”

Personally, I think that they didn't kill him because of the honor of sportsmanship and immense respect. After all, he did something that was largely inconceivable: a human killed a predator, and with his own weapon.
Yes, and the Yautja clan does have a very strict honor code. If the prey managed to defeat the predator in a combat, then the elder rewards the prey. In this case, the elder rewards him with an 18th century gun.
Yep that's exactly why they let him live.
@@JorJor_Millennial_Mulatto Damn, if Yautja can actually reward him with better toy. Not somekind of historic junk. At least on Predator vs alien movie. Predator actually giving the women survivalist a better weapon like their advance collapsible spear.
@@Ilyas-ty6cy Honestly man, I would happily accept an antique that can never be made. If anything because of the era it was made in (in addition to the gun being in good shape) it may be worth a lot of $$$$$. I’m taking it.
duuuuuuuuh
Fun fact: it’s the same flintlock Raphael gave to Naru who gave it to her tribe. The Prey movie takes place before the predator movies 2:46
As the story goes, the elder Yautja was stowed away on a pirate ship headed for Cuba. One night, the crew mutinied against the captain, Andolini, dragging him out to deck to murder him, as the predator watched with his optical camouflage enabled. Andolini broke away, slashing two men with a hidden knife, grabbed a sword and fought back against basically the whole crew. The predator, impressed by his strength, actually assisted him, killing several men. Andolini, wounded, but still standing, finally stood face to face with the predator and pointed his sword at him in challenge, which he gladly accepted, but before the fight started, a man shot Andolini in the back, who then fell to his knees, took out his pistol and threw it to the predator, saying “have it”, then died. The predator kept the trophy for all those centuries until he gave it to Hardigan.
That story/comic is an awesome back story behind the pirate pistol
Well Prey retconned that story
@@GalenNightno retcon
@@c.galindo9639 yeah it did. Now in the Predator canon Andolini was a French fur trapper who helped our Indian protagonist by giving her his pistol to fight back against the Predator

I also like "Waterworld" (1995).
A most worthy sequel.
"OK. Who's next." ❤😂 I love that scene.
Man we need another good Predator movie. Their planet, origin, lore. It’s so good of a creature to just be forgotten about.
Better forgotten as two epic action films than remembered for their prolonged list of broken sequels that did nothing but shame away the entire concept of a "good predator movie", hmm... now that I think about it, same goes for the Alien Trilogy (yes, yes I count the third one, in its assembly cut, as a good way to end the franchise).
@@PointReflex yeah it’s too bad the movies after Predator 2 became so bad. I mean Predators wasn’t too bad, but they never continued that story either so it’s just all over the place when it comes to the Predator, which is sad.

The only movie in the franchise that stands up to the original.
I personally love Predator 2 for originality. It is very different from the iconic first one. It's dark, gritty, sweaty, and Danny Glover is hella funny in this! Not to mention the legendary Bill Paxton and funny-as-hell Gary Busey! Let the sequel have it's flowers 🌟
When it comes to being a bad ass, I don’t know any higher merit you can get besides getting respect from a Predator.
So many detailed gems in this one scenario. From the sound of the disk to the cloaking members walking past the leader. I always appreciate a scene that says the most without the characters talking.
The quality is incredible

Odd number Predator movies are best, but the even number ones still have their charms.
My mother is a 75 yr old Chinese woman. I brought this and Lethal Weapon to watch during a visit. When she said Danny Glover was hot, I would never bring another Danny Glover flick to her place to watch.

Predator and Alien were great movie franchise. I’ve watched them multiple times.
Danny Glover was simply superb.
I don’t care what anyone says, this is my favorite Predator movie, by a mile.
Mine too
He’s my fav too because I think he’s more ferocious than the others depicted in the movies. He didn’t use long range weapons for the most part like the other yautja in the first one
Not better than the first one though
@@dalisobanda5575
"Better" and "favorite" are two different things. For example, Wrath of Khan is undoubtedly the best of the first six Star Trek movies, but my _favorite_ is Undiscovered Country.
0:20 RIP Kevin Peter Hall.
Yautja: 😵
His pals: 😯🍿
^Facts.
Danny Glover proven that he's a true warrior
I never realized that they didn't clap him not only because he won but because he ALSO dropped his weapon. They respected that he made himself submissive to their strength in numbers.
I'm not sure there was any respect toward his submissiveness, but it was more the fact that they wouldn't want to kill unarmed prey because there's no sport in it. But they definitely respected his victory over one of their own, which is why they gave him a trophy to commemorate it.
He was unarmed. It was established in the first movie that they only attack armed humans. They don't kill to kill, but for sporting reasons and honor.
I wouldn’t say submitted but was open to whatever their demands were to be if he were to take on another challenge
@@ianwulf24actually they were there to witness the City Dwellers final test of worthiness and were only retrieving his body to honor his warrior’s death. It was the elder Yautja’s own commends of respect to him for his honorable victory
I'm sure if they wanted to continue they could've fought him without weapons. Didn't seem to be the case.
Such a groundbreaking staple set in the lore of Predator.
It’s amazing how they have a contested history of using humans in test trials to differentiate their warriors in how worthy they are to be when faced with a death match of their highest ranked prey on their proving grounds.
This movie really delivered well as a follow up from a different angle of how the Yautja go into proving their warrior skills throughout the worlds they come across
The start of the Yuatja/Humankind relation. Where the Predator acknowledges mankind as their worthy opponent.
A backhanded compliment tho, yes-you humans, you can kill anything ..
Don’t some humans end up living on a Yuatja preservation, get some predator gear, and are even recognized as clan members? I feel it’s more like a human adopting or domesticating/living with dogs.
@silversolitaire1519 in EU novels mainly. And in AVP the Ripley Stand-In is acknowledged for surviving the hunt.
@@petersimpson633that doesn’t make sense coming from a race of aliens were their reason for existence is to just kill everything. Talk about being hypocritical lol
Anyone else get chills with the old musket gun. Like a predator movie called 1715. Haha predators on a ship.
That would be right in the middle of the Golden Age of Piracy… I’d watch it.
The gun was in Predator PREY. Main character shot with the gun Predator to the head (not kill him)
@@danmurtinger6239….it originally came from a book about a Pirate, but they redid it for Prey..
I'd go see "Predator on a Boat".
The gun was is the last predator movie also
I like this movie. It has a lot of what you'd want to see in a sequel. I especially liked how they depicted the Predators as being honorable, as well as ruthless.
You just know that old head with the grey dreads was an absolute badass.
The fact that the other Yautja were there the whole time and did nothing to help one of their own highlights just how strongly they adhere to their honor code. One on one combat, no ganging up.
People don't realize it, but during the production of movies like this one, or LOTR for example, the crew sacrificed A LOT to get you the ifnal result you see on the screen... sometimes they worked without pay or even payed for things out of pocket to make it work. All those extra predators for such a short amount of time is one such example.
That's not a good thing

This was a criminally underrated movie and anyone who claims it sucked, clearly needed to live through the current era as of typing this comment to truly comprehend just what the term “sucked” means.
Always loved this ending
The final turn was epic these predators have their own place of dignity n self respect
This was a great movie. Everyone involved was perfect.
One thing about this plot of this movie is that the predator that he klld was a rogue predator, from what I remember reading, he took it upon himself to do whatever he wanted against the tribe's wishes, and this is another reason they didn't touch Danny Glover in the move
I love this movie, and this finale is epic
So well done and perfect world building. Underrated!
You gotta love the money the studio spent in this one scene alone, I know I do.

The 1715 pistol is a symbol of respect by the predators, that the elder yautja gives Harrigan the gun as a code of honor by winning the hand to hand combat.
The predator is the goat 🐐 enough said 😁
Yep......my trousers would be brown when they all turned up 😂
I will always love how they know how to speak English. Just further pushing how smart they are.
I first saw this while stationed in Naples, Italy. It's scary how long ago that was now.
Could be worse. I saw Return of the Living Dead while stationed in South Korea in 85. So we are watching in an Army Theater and the one character says when asked how the barrels ended up in the basement and he responds Typical Army F-up and we rolled.
Criminally underrated movie.
We learn so much about the Predators in this short but intense scene.
Other Yautja be like, "Wait, _you_ did this? Very impressive..."
A great sequel, Glover played it great made it his own
This was such an important scene as far as development goes for the predators. This was when you saw that they were not all cold, blooded killers, but hunters, with a code of dignity, and instead of taking him out, they rewarded him a prize to applaud his effort.
Underrated. I like this sequel better than some of the other new Preditor incantations
That's because this was made by people who cared about telling a good, gritty story.
Absolutely love this scene. Looks around, ok, who's next?
This movie always was wicked ❤️
Danny was that urban cop who was streetwise and so was perfect for the predator to be tested by balls of steel
I don’t know why, but when I was young I just thought all those predators teleported in. But I just realized they were here all along.
Got the sense that even though they outnumbered him and showed him respect...they were also thinking like..."DAMN....." "What else is this guy capable of??"
"Okay...who's next?"
Badass.
