You just showed me how to swap my filter in the first 30 seconds thank you! I’ve already done a fluid flush before but barley learned I had a little filter there 😅
Very thorough and detailed video for this procedure! It's easy to tell you have experience and a great work ethic and attention to detail. I really like the quick synopsis/summary at the beginning as it helps to review the procedure if one gets "stuck" during the job and makes it not necessary to search throughout the entire video! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
The dealer here in Puerto Rico only change the oil, not the filters, and they charge $130. Pretty much considering the prize of the oil itself and how easy it is just to drain it and then filling it. Thank you for showing how is really done!
Honda CVT filters are not routine maintenace items. Replace these filters every 100k km is good enough. Don't need to replace CVT filters every HCF-2 fluid change of 40k km/30k miles.
You do a thorough job of cleaning and assembling those parts unlike most shops are half ass and don’t even clean the residual dirty oil out of the pan those scum bag lazy ass shops but I have no choices since I am a retired mechanic with severe arthritis and unable to do these tasks myself
Hey Mike - I get you. I have family and friends around your age and can sympathize. I would recommend searching online for local shops with great feedback from their customers...
I'm a retired aircraft mechanic when we disassembled something it was thoroughly cleaned. It had to be that way to find cracked sheet metal or other damage that might have been covered up because it wasn't clean.
Yes those lazy ass mechanics even over filled my oil by a quart and I demanded he owes me a quart of expensive synthetic oil which I provided during my engine oil change he was not happy but I asked him him how much oil did he put in my car as my car holds just 4 quarts and I provided him with 5 quarts, these shops can’t even do a simple Oi change without messing things up🤬
Great video Honda dealer near me service manager said filters don't ever need to be changed. Sorry but not buying off on that. I bought a 2015 CRV AWD from a friend of mine he changed the transmission fluid every 25,000 miles and used Honda fluids but never changed the filters. Dealer convinced him it didn't need to be done. I have all Honda parts and fluids and will be changing it all out at 94,500 miles. I'll clean the MAF sensor while I'm at it.
I just did it and I think they are right. Just change the fluid regularly. You will regret changing that heat exchanger. That 3rd bolt was more than a little difficult.
@rustymaximus9179 , sorry to read you had difficulties with that bottom bolt. With the right sockets as I show in the video, it is really as easy to come out and go back in as the other two bolts...
This job would be so nice if you had access to a lift like you did. Thanks for the detailed video! My next drain and fill interval I will be doing both filters.
I messed up thinking my 2018 Accord would take 5.3 quarts. Nope just 3.91 plus a bit more for the filters. When I took out the level bolt the fluid just keep coming. I spent quite a bit of time making sure the car was level but it just kept coming out. Finally I checked the number of quarts for an Accord and was quite relieved to know it was just ~4 quarts. There are a few other slight differences for the Accord. Still the best video out there.
Wow what a great video, thanks so much for making this! Couple of the other vids had me questioning whether I should do that warmer filter or not, but this made it very clear and easy

Thanks for this information. Just changing fluid will do no good if it is not circulating because of plugged filters which I had no idea of. Greatly appreciated.
did my 1st fluid change at 100k...i bought the car from a dealer used at 40k miles so i think it was drained & filled by the dealership once. I didnt realize i had CVT...I replaced the cylindrical filter at the heat exchange but left the strainer. I will replace it on the next fluid change. im thinking of doing another fluid change at 120k and then keeping up every 30k..
Good video. Thanks for sharing the torque values. One question though... what is the size of the sockets used to take off the pan bolts, filter bolts and fluid level check bolt?
@ROMEO-jr5dv ,thanks. It is best to have a metric socket set covering 7 to 27mm as a DYIer - generally speaking. I don't remember exactly, but I think 10 to 13mm...
Awesome video! Thank you very much. If i have the car on jack stands, is it okay to rev the engine at idle to bring it to running temperature? My car does not warm up to running temperature unless I drive it.
Just swappen my CVT ATM oil, but I did not swap either of the fiilters out. 1. Does the service manual say anything about swapping the filters? Is the filter swap suggested by Honda, or this just extra maintenance that is optional? 2. Can I still go ahead and swap out the upper warmere-filter and two gaskets? Just don't want to drain out the new CVT fluid to remove the bottom ATM filter. Which filter doese most of the filtering, the one in the pan? Great video!
Hi Razz, yes, the one in the pan does most of the filtering. Wait a couple thousand miles and do both. When you just drain, not all of the fluid drains out. A second one of the pan will freshen up your fluid pretty good. The filter is not expensive. From then on, replace both filters and fluid every 30k miles for sure.
Honda service manual don't spell the CVT filters replacement as routine service. Replace these filters every 100k km is a good call, with the fluid replace every 40k km

If you clog those filters up with transmission debris, you got bigger problems.
Hi Greg, CVT manufacturers recommend replacing the fluid every 30k miles.... However, your concern is noteworthy. This job has to be done properly and in clean environments.
@@nandojunior-gl3rg Keep in mind please that you can make transmissions last a long time by not driving aggressively, driving without passengers, and mostly on straight roads.
