Changed the oil in my 2012 Buick Verano yesterday did the flush oil and oil filter and pi improver and was very impressed and today change the transmission fluid will change the rest in a few day I was totally amazed on my way home it shifted so smooth will do another drain and fill in a few days! Love your videos keep up the great work!
Austin i have a question...sooo i used "honda genuine HG CVT fluid and not HFC-2 on my 2016 honda civic..would that change in transmission fluid damage my transmission?
Lloyd I would do a couple drain and fills and change the fluid out this will give you the fluid capacities for your vehicle. Lookup For Your Vehicles - www.amsoil.com/guides.aspx?zo=5331179
Seriously, thank you!!!!! Dealership wanted to charge us $200 for this service. I'm a reasonably handy guy. Between this and your brake fluid drain/refill video, you saved my family $400. That's a lot of money during these uncertain times. I can't thank you enough!!! Very thorough video. Can't mess this up with your video if you understand how basic tools work. Liked and subscribed. Thank you!!!!!
This is the best method, you can't make a mistake and overfill. Did mine exactly this way and was way easy, no removing air filter box. Don't forget new gasket. Humor and info, great video.
Done the engine flush, oil and filter and pi improver Saturday and today done a drain and refill on my transmission and will do it again in a few day was totally amazed at how much smoother it shifted can’t wait to get another drain and refill done! Was amazed at how much better it shifted just on the drive home! Love your videos!
Key points should be in mind in doing transmission fluid change. 1- car should be level, so that draining and filling is accurate.should not be inclined from front or back. 2- after filling the fluid, let it run from few minutes so that transmission fluid temperature comes to normal.it is sensitive to temperature. 3- change gears slowly from P to L so that transmission fluid run through all the solenoids. 4- again remove the check bolt so see if any more fluid needed or there is excess fluid. Thanks
Nice add-ons yeah the Hondas are very simple and straightforward to do and definitely I agree if it's super cold out you wouldn't want to fill it all the way to the top because once it expands it would be overfilled thank you for the subtleties thanks for being a part of my TH-cam Community💪💯
Great video and a great job! I only have 16K on my Accord LX and I want to change already, especially after watching this video. The owner was quite excited how well the civic drove. Thank you always!
Jose This will give you all the products to your vehicle and tomorrow you'll see the engine flush and how much better it ran after that. AMSOIL Products & Vehicle Lookup - www.amsoil.com/guides.aspx?zo=5331179
Thanks man. I bought that product and changed my transmission oil like a champ!. It was a breeze. $7 part at harbor freight vs dealer cost around $300 on up.
Yeah that's normal the way a regular mechanic is they usually like to make their job sound a lot harder than it is most fluid changes are very very very very very very easy you'll see that as you go through my playlists don't get me wrong there's some that are really hard and you definitely have to be careful but for the most part it's very simple 😉

Make sure you have a new (aluminum) washer on the drain bolt and the fill bolt. On third generation Honda Fit (2015-2019), CVT fluid is changed the same way as on the Civic. A pump for pumping in the transmission fluid like the one used here is nice but you could probably also make this work with a funnel and a piece of vinyl tubing. You might have to remove the air cleaner in order to make space for those. I would prefer to use genuine Honda branded CVT fluid. For the third gen Fit it is HCF-2. Older Hondas with earlier CVTs use a different fluid. I don't know where to get Amsoil CVT fluid anyway. Amsoil motor oil no problem, but CVT fluid?

Yes that's correct. Every transmission has an initial fill and a total fill the difference is one amount is if you took the transmission apart and drained every drop of fluid out of the entire transmission that would be called the total fill. On a transmission when you drain the pan the pan usually holds anywhere from 30% to 70% of the fluid of that transmission. For instance the pan could hold say three quarts of a 10 quart transmission. It just depends on the component the type of transmission. This look up guide will show you for your vehicle and for any other vehicles you can check different types and you'll see under transmissions the initial fill and the total fill. ☕, yeah they changed model codes on all different components mid year. after doing hundreds of fluid changes you find that out when you least expect it 😆😉
After you go through your gears and test drive Did you go back and fill it up more? Or once you filled it up, went through the gears, test drove it. Were you completely finished until you guys did your second drain and fill
That's a great question just did one Phil and then came back and drained it a second time no need to check it all you do is fill it until it overflows and that means it is full. Together! @@Syntheticoilprotection I’ve used pennzoil ultra platinum as my oil my last couple oil changes in my 21 civic, great oil. However, I have thought about maybe giving Amsoil a try. Having said that; as far as CVT fluid, I heard amsoil is the best so I just may need to click on this link of yours and perhaps give it a try. This method is so easy. I can’t imagine going to the dealer and paying extra for them to do something that honestly looks easier than the oil change. lol

Why wouldn't you just use the fill port instead of purchasing the fill pump, all you need is a long Funnel which is far easier? Most cars need to move the air filter canister out of the way but that only takes a few minutes and you don't have the mess with the fluid and to clean up the tool, so much easier. I will say this much that you have a great attitude which makes it special.
It could be a different transmission code sometimes mid-modelier they change it it may have a fill straw on top or you may have to fill it from the top where you'll have to put a funnel down in
Also certain vehicles they do a mid-year model update meaning the same exact transmission may not be in every model that specific model year. I found this out after doing fluid changes on about 350 vehicles
@@Syntheticoilprotection it's hidden under the air box and battery at least it is on our honda and every other video the hrvs and civics and crvs all are supposed to be the same supposedly it's kinda honestly a hassle to get to it probably easier if you already have a pump to just do it the way you did it about to do it myself with some amsoil cvt fluid seems like some good stuff and still cheaper then having the dealer do it

Eben, wasn't there a fill port under the hood? I think all these Honda CVTs have a fill port, similar to the honda accord CVT change video in your channel. It would've been easier to use that, instead of the pump?
This is different than the other one it has no dipstick tube to check the transmission and what a lot of the manufacturers are doing now is telling people they are a sealed transmission not to mess with it. Once you get out of warranty then the transmission is richt LOL That's usually what happens so most people don't ever change it. On this car the weakest link is the transmission so that's the most important thing to change
The weakest link is the fluid once the fluid oxidizes and thickens it doesn't circulate properly doesn't protect the bearings and then the transmission will overheat. Once the transmission overheats you can lose power the car can go into limp mode and then eventually if not addressed immediately the transmission could be burnt once it gets burnt in there you can have slipping it may not shift properly it may stay in a lower gear and then eventually the transmission would have to be replaced. Something that can easily be prevented by just changing the fluid. If it was my car I would personally do it every 15,000 mi of city driving.
@@Syntheticoilprotection Ah okay. You made it sound like the transmission isn't overall reliable. Which ofcourse isn't true as honda has made pretty much bulletproof cvt's the last 10 years. But yes it's true, it's probably gonna go bad eventually.
Oh yeah I've never seen any problems with any of the Hondas I would say as of now of all the cars I've worked on the channel probably around 45 50 different vehicles I would say the Honda's have been my favorite to work on. Also I have never had any problems with any of the Hondas always great vehicles 😊😃💯
You'll see on my transmission playlists and also the engine flush playlist the Hondas are all almost identical they have very very similar transmissions and the oil filters are almost the same on every car. this is the lookup guide that will give you the exact products and fluid capacities for everything on your vehicle. I have been shying away from CTVs because they do not seem like proven technology for long life. I like how some Toyota six speed automatics can drive past 400k on the original transmission. Would the Amsoil full synthetic CVT fluid bring longer life even on poorly engineered Nissan Jatco CVT Transmissions?
Yes the reason is because the CVT fluid amsoil makes is 100% synthetic it has a higher film strength protects the bearings less heat less friction smoother operation improved fuel mileage. AMSOIL Performance Test Results - www.amsoil.com/performancetests.aspx?zo=5331179
Great video as am planning to this on my civic other videos show filling it back up, using the plug from top of the engine with funnel. That would be easier then using the pump? Does it matter where you fill it back up?

Well they're almost both right LOL it all comes down to the lubricant she run the driving conditions and whether you do oil analysis. If you live somewhere like Las Vegas I would personally do it on my car every 30,000 Mi of City driving with Amsoil. I would do it at every 15,000 miles if it was OEM fluid but for me I would always use Amsoil because of the quality. If you're doing all highway driving somewhere very mild like New Orleans with lots of thick dense air and no mountains you can easily go a hundred thousand miles but that's all highway driving. If it was my car I think I would still change it at 60,000 MI if I live somewhere really mild and did all highway driving I'm all about preventive maintenance. But if you did it oil analysis and you pushed it I'm sure it would still be good at 100,000 of highway driving somewhere very mild like New Orleans. Hi again I just received my Cvt.I’d like to know if I can use a long funnel to pour in the fluid instead of pumping it.Will the oil pour right out if I pour it from the top or will it flow out slowly telling me it’s filling up.Thanks I don’t have the pump that you guys are using.
Correct you definitely want to use the pump All you do is go to harbor freight or any of the local auto parts stores like O'Reilly's They all have the hand pump
When you change the transmission fluid there's two parts of a transmission the transmission pan and the torque converter. When you drain it it is only the pen and that's usually about 30 to 50% of the fluid. So you can always come back and do another drain and fill and that will change more of the fluid. @@Syntheticoilprotection 1 more question someone said dont mix oem and amsoil. They said when we drain the transmission oil only 50% goes out and theres still oem oil left in the transmission. Is it ok to mix the left over oem and amsoil or just stick to oem for now?
Basically that's what comes in every vehicle is a mix most synthetic blends are 1 to 15% synthetic. Full synthetic are 25% synthetic or more most full synthetic are exactly 25% synthetic. Amsoil is 100% synthetic so it's going to have a much higher film strength it'll be a lot smoother you'll have less wear on the component it'll run cooler and last longer and run much stronger.

Great question you want to use the lookup guy to hear and you want to use what it says on there it'll give you the fluid capacity and everything for your year make model and engine size if you want to do more than one drain and fill you would want to definitely get a lot of extra fluid to do multiple drain and fills. ✅️ Your Professional YouLubher: Eben Rockmaker. Yes we did not change it I change it if it's damaged but if the Crush Washer is good I put it on the same way it comes off and you are fine to reuse it however if the Crush Washer is crushed on both sides it can start leak so it's good to change it if it's damaged but if it's put back on the same way it came off they do not leak
Yeah I think they're both 17 mm and I recommend if you are just getting a basic tool set I would get a Craftsman or a Harbor Freight basic mechanics hand tool set their very inexpensive you'll have all the metric and American sockets and you'll have everything you need in just one tool kit that's what I personally recommend. If you can I would also consider getting some used Snap-on tools at a some sort of estate sale you may be able to find really really good Snap-on tools which are the best
Yes you will need the hand pump that way you can pump it into the transmission from the fill hole. It's very simple all you do is fill it until it overflows will it overflows and then you know its whole that's it. We have a whole playlist on this car when you go to the home page you'll see 2017 Honda Civic You'll see everything we did to his car there's a few follow-ups also some filter changes
Question, after you flush the old fluid the first time. You then mention that your going to do another one.Does that mean that you flush out the new transmission oil the second time then pour another 3four quarts more? I’m confused,my Honda is going on 60,000 miles. Thanks
Hey search yeah so we would do a fluid change after it's all mixed up basically if you put it in park reverse drive and shift back and forth you will circulate the fluid then it's all mixed. I always recommend doing it until the fluid is a satisfactory look where it looks clear and clean. You could do one or two draining fills go drive it come back and then turn it on again drive it come back basically you're just mixing the fluid until it looks cleaner. And you have the majority of the old fluid out. That's the primary objective is to get as much new fluid in and as much old fluid out.
Yes that sounds about right it's always good to get a little extra just depends on the transmission sometimes mid-model year they change the transmission so it's always good to have a little bit extra and you can always use it a year or two down the road as long as you keep it sealed

Could you please do a video on how to change the CVT filter on a 1.5 Turbo Civic, as far as I can see there are no videos on this engine & CVT combination. Thanks much
Good question as far as the CVT filter most CVT transmissions are a basic drain and fill so I would take a look under your car most likely you'll see the drain in the fill is just a basic 3/8 drive. Just depends on the setup also as far as the oil and filter for the motor that would be very similar to the other Honda's I have on the channel and all you need is the motor oil in the oil filter. this is my personal link if you are thinking about trying the amsoil and that will get you the wholesale pricing at 25% discount and also the free shipping. @@Syntheticoilprotection I’ve looked at the parts schematic for the 1.5 engine and there definitely is a CVT filter & O rings that other videos have shown 2.0 engine CVT filter changes for, but I can’t find a video on the 1.5 engine, and Honda doesn’t make service manuals for the public anymore. It is very frustrating and difficult to find good videos on many of the common service items.
You'll notice when you look at the Honda CVT Amsoil fluid Howard needs all the Honda specs. This will show you all the specs on the Amsoil CVT fluid www.amsoil.com/p/synthetic-cvt-fluid-cvt/?zo=5331179
So I've swapped all of my oils to Amsoil, on my civic 2017 1.5t sedan. After an added amsoil engine flush, car is much quieter. On neutral, engine sounds like its turned off. Only have 20k miles. Transmission now casually shifting, didn't have any problems before, but it's just sweet butter now.
@@mikemagalong3161 casually, like its under less stress. Almost as if I'm not asking much from it. On highway shifts smoother and a lil quicker. My car only has 20k, didn't have any notable issues at all, was just fine. With Amsoil, just seems a lil more buttery smooth. Also notice that the engine runs slightly cooler. Would always reach the middle of the temp gauge under long trips, now sits at maybe 1/5th -1/6th of halfway. I also performed an engine flush, Gasoline P.I, Engine oil and CVT oil for the first and same time w/amsoil. So I can't really pin point who's running it cooler or quieter. When they removed the OEM Honda CVT fluid it was still clear and not oxidized and almost zero particles in the oil. Almost looked brand new, but that could be attributed to my driving style: Almost no hard or quick accelerations on the car, Always last to leave the red light in NYC.
@@argenistineo5113 good to know! I have 4 quarts of the amsoil cvt ready. In around 5K kms, I will have it poured in to replace the HCF-2. 2016 1.5T has about 53K kms or so already. Next would be the signature 5w30 to replace the RP HPS 0w20.

Great eyes William yeah I didn't know at the time I think I set it by accident when I was doing the video yeah this is the regular motor like you mentioned as far as the CVT fluid I'm sure it's still a CVT on the other one It just might be a little bit different the way the fluid goes in and out depending on where the drain bolt is and fill bolt. On the little stick on the dashboard near the odometer you'll hold it in for 10 seconds then the oil light will blink once it blinks you hold it in for another 10 seconds and then it will reset to 100%.
I believe there's two different types of cars and dashboards the one you have to do it on the buttons the other one you push the stick in The Vladimir s is the one where you push in the stick.
Hmm I don't have the one with a stick. Which buttons am I supposed to use for that? I always assumed they had to connect a computer tool to reset the code
It's probably just an easier access location. You'll see the Toyotas are kind of like that you can fill the one you'll see it on the channel the trans you can fill on the side and you can also fill it through the straw on the bottom it's kind of like either LOL

Hi!! Currently sitting at 31,000 miles and have r had any problems with the CVT since new. I have a 2017 civic hatch sport touring. The maintenance minder 3* light has not come on and I do not drive in mountainous areas. Maybe a little bit hilly, but not mountainous. Should I wait until the maintenance minder light 3* comes on? The maintenance minder light came on for a brake fluid flush and cabin air filter change which was done probably 5,000-7,000 miles ago but that’s a separate topic. What’s your take?
Hey Matt great question yeah if this was my personal car I would change the transmission fluid every 15,000 mi or 3 years here in Las Vegas with the high heat If I live somewhere mild like Florida or somewhere with high air density and mild temperatures all year round I would change the transmission fluid about every 25,000 mi of city driving. If I was doing all highway driving somewhere like Las Vegas I would change it every 30,000 mi. If I live somewhere where it was very mild like Florida I would change the transmission fluid every 60,000 mi of highway driving. So it just depends on the way you're driving the vehicle there's always a benefit of changing it sooner than later You'll have better fuel mileage your car will drive better smoother better performance and you'll have an extended life for the component. Hi again. Now I am at just about 47,500 and still maintenance minder 3 still has not come on, so I haven’t done a CVT fluid change. Does my car know when the trans fluid needs to be changed? I’m considering just having it changed this spring as a precaution. I’m at sea level and the car doesn’t do many miles per year. Lots of stop and go, some highway. I just want the car to not cause me any problems in the future. What’s your advice?
Usually I do not change the crush washers unless it doesn't look right All you have to do is make sure you put it back the way it came off and it will fit up perfectly. I've never had one leak yet.
@@jacksonsilva6335I just bought 4 Quarts at my local Honda dealership and they didn’t include one. Not a big deal though, I bought a 20 pack of crush washers online for 8.99 and that should last as long as I own the car. I change the CVT fluid every 30k miles so I’m sure the car will be long since dead and gone before I put another 600,000 miles on it. 😁
I been watching a lot of videos about this, and I must say that when I saw youres I thought to myself what' is this idiots doing? My apologies you guys are genius!!!Thank you, this it's the way I'm going to do my Honda transmission oil change.

dont you need to replace the crush washer on the CVT drain plug? going to attempt this the first time on my 2016 civic done at the dealer the first couple of times

Yes it's not even comparable there are different fluids out there like mineral oil synthetic oil which is a synthetic blend and then there's 100% synthetic lubricants they have a higher film strength which keeps the metal separated You have better wear protection cooler operation for every 18° cooler a fluid runs at oxidizes at half the rate so this makes a huge difference in the longevity of your fluid and your transmission will last longer. also the molecules move more freely so you have less parasitic drag which gives you better gas mileage. Hi. I have a 2020 Corolla in Saudi Arabia. It has a CVT transmission. Do you happen to know if the Amsoil is suitable for my car or not.? Another question, after how many miles should I get it replaced. Note, the weather is very hot there!
I not sure if that's a different type of transmission than the American one but if it's the same it should be in the lookup guide you'll see the exact fluid and capacity for your vehicle here.

Hey Francisco the Hondas are one of the easiest cars to work on You'll see a lot of videos on that online basically it's the same thing all you need to do is go to harbor freight and get a c-clamp the c-clamp will allow you to push the caliper back so the new pads that are thicker will fit in. You I also recommend the dot 3.4 Amsoil brake fluid. Another thing is you want to get a little bit of grease to make sure you grease the outside of the pad that way it doesn't vibrate and make noise when you stop. You also want to break in the new rotors and pads properly by doing 5 mph to 40 stop 5 to 40 stop and get heat in the brakes after you get the brakes heat soaked what you do is you drive around the block for 5 minutes without stopping completely allowing the rotors to cool. You'll notice a huge difference and you'll be very impressed with the way your car runs. I recommend getting the highest quality rotors and pads you can find your car will drive a lot safer smoother and you'll have less heat in your brakes and you'll have much more stopping power.
The break change is very generic on Honda and very simple You'll see a lot of videos online showing how to do it One of the best guys that shows how to do it is called Chris fix.

That's a good question Daryl honestly I have no idea I can only assume it's going to be quite a bit cooler but I have not ever tested anything yet you'll notice your engine will run smoother less vibration and you will notice better fuel mileage and it will turn a lot easier in parking lots because the CVT is a transaxle so it's a transmission in a differential all in one and when you have the better film strength it will turn smoother and easier. Correct you can use any of the CVT fluids that meet that specification. The amsoil One is an upgrade because it has the 100% synthetic which is a higher film strength less heat less wear smoother operation better gas mileage. www.amsoil.com/p/synthetic-cvt-fluid-cvt/?zo=5331179 you'll also see that it meets a lot of other vehicle specifications.
Internally there is no transmission filter to change on this vehicle it's a basic drain and fill. It's very important to keep up on these type of vehicles. Preferably every 15 to 30,000 mi depending on driving conditions is a good time period to change the fluids on the trans if you're doing all highway driving you can go longer it's just one of those things that are very sensitive to heat.

The fluid usually costs about 100 to $200 depending on the markup at a dealership. Labor is usually $125 per hour. You want to figure two smoke breaks and a lunch break it's going to be about 3.4 hours of labor plus parts. Most transmissions cost about 3 to $600 at the dealership
Let me say this , go to Walmart for a price, My Honda Accord CVT transmission takes close to 4 qt. of oil and calls for HCF-2 fluid Castrol has a gal container $22.00 No filter involved You can do it yourself for that kind of money, and Castrol makes Great OILs, however if you like a certain brand name, buy it just make sure it has the right Spec. on the bottle
Wife's currently got 72K on her 2018 Civic 2.0L. Do you think it's worth it to go ahead and do the trans and coolant flush or would it be better off to trade it in at this point?
It depends if you like luxury cars if you want a really nice car I would definitely just spend the money treat yourself. If you're more of an economy car type of person I would just stick with the Honda Civics there's some of the best production cars you'll ever get for the money and they last forever when you take care of them. Personally I always joke around but I always tell people if I wasn't in two cars I would have a Honda Fit that's my favorite little car it's a 1.5 L they get great gas mileage easy to work on and they have tons of space. So that's pretty much the ultimatum if she's happy with the car I would switch all the fluids over keep it you'll save a ton of money no car payments and you'll have a car that runs better than brand new. @@Syntheticoilprotection Thank you very much for your thoughtful response. I have watched a couple of your videos and really enjoy your enthusiasm for car care. One more question, on the 2.0L, is the fill plug underneath the air box? Could I fill the transmission using the same transfer pump technique Vladimir used in this video? If so, any recommendations? Thanks again for the help
Yes it should be the same as his car it could be slightly different but usually it's always right there on the bottom Sometimes They do change the Transmissions mid-modelier which can happen but most likely it's exactly the same👍
If it was my personal car I would change it about every 20,000 mi. If I had the OEM fluid in it I would change it right away even if it had a thousand miles on it I would change it as soon as I broke in the transmission. You'll just have better drivability smoother and you'll also make some better fuel mileage and your transmission will probably last about two to three times longer.

I notice you have a coupe, I'm assuming it's the same process on a four door Civic EX of the same year? Also how do I know if I have a 1.5l or a 2? Thanks!
I looked up the VIN. I have a 2.0L. also, the manual that I have is apparently the same manual for both a 1.5L and the 2.0L because it says things like "For 1.5L models do this for 2.0L models do this"... But also, I saw other transmission oil change videos on TH-cam and noticed that they removed a panel from under the hood and put the oil in from up there. But you did everything from the bottom, so quick and easy. Is that because you used the pump? I'm just trying to make sure I have all this info before getting to it. Lol
Great questions yeah that won't show up on the dashboard if it was my vehicle I would change the fluid every 20,000 mi of city driving or 60,000 mi of highway driving if I was using Amsoil. I would definitely change it if it was my personal vehicle also the fluid can time out meaning after about 3 years it's good to change it if you live in a hot area because it oxidizes with age. If you live somewhere colder you're good for about 5 years. This is my personal link if you have any questions just let me know. 2.8 mpg?
Oops..
2.8 mpg better 😄

@@Syntheticoilprotection some fuild leak around check bolt after changed transmission fuild as like you.what is wrong.

I have 2018 hr-v a week ago had the cvt fluid last week 8-8-23 notice the difference right away the car wanted to take off bought it used 62000 miles
Wait so when pumping the fluid in, only 3.9 quarts? how come you said later in the video that 3.9 was only half, 8 qt is the max?

They are all different
☕, yeah they changed model codes on all different components mid year.
after doing hundreds of fluid changes you find that out when you least expect it 😆😉
After you go through your gears and test drive
Did you go back and fill it up more? Or once you filled it up, went through the gears, test drove it. Were you completely finished until you guys did your second drain and fill
That's a great question just did one Phil and then came back and drained it a second time no need to check it all you do is fill it until it overflows and that means it is full.

@@Syntheticoilprotection how long does shipping usually take on cvt fluid or anything in general? I don’t see a shipping date
On top of this, you don't give yourself a chance to replace the top filter.
@emeresbestres1 not sure what filter you're talking about?
I can't find my filler bolt for my 2017 Honda Civic,it's not in the front like the video has it.
It could be a different transmission code sometimes mid-modelier they change it it may have a fill straw on top or you may have to fill it from the top where you'll have to put a funnel down in
I found it,it's a 12 mm bolt.I don't need the pump,I just have to keep my eye out when it starts to drip. Thanks☺️💪💪
There's another fill hole up top you can use a thin funnel way easier then using a pump
I think it depends on the vehicle some vehicles it's there others it's not I didn't see anything there.

Once you get out of warranty then the transmission is richt LOL
That's usually what happens so most people don't ever change it.
On this car the weakest link is the transmission so that's the most important thing to change
@@Syntheticoilprotection The weakest link? By what means?
I have 2019 Honda Accord sport...are they the same as civic...
You'll see on my transmission playlists and also the engine flush playlist the Hondas are all almost identical they have very very similar transmissions and the oil filters are almost the same on every car.

Great video as am planning to this on my civic other videos show filling it back up, using the plug from top of the engine with funnel. That would be easier then using the pump? Does it matter where you fill it back up?
That's a great question George honestly I don't know 100% for certain I've filled all different vehicles from the top I've also filled some from the side of the transmission I know you want to make sure you put the proper fluid amount in and that's on the lookup guide on the Amazon website also when you use my link that will give the best very best value on the products as the six-month preferred customer it's a one-time $10 fee and there's no Auto renew will give you the 25% off and a lot of other great benefits and I'll always be able to answer your questions in the future about improving the performance and lifespan of your vehicles by choosing the right fluids as your independent Amsoil dealer👍

I own 2017 HONDA COVIC. How many miles intervals i have to change transmission fluid? I am getting mix answers from 30k to someone saying 100K

I really don't remember.
I would double check and also ask a technician friend of yours if you know someone that works in those vehicles all the time
I have a civic hatchback cvt transmission with 37000 miles I took my car to the Honda dealer to change my fluid but now it feels like the cvt is jerking or slipping when I’m on a red light the the I press little on the gas the cvt feels like is slipping what should I do and thank you for this awesome video
If it was me I would stop driving it until you check the fluid level.
I would also switch all the fluids over to Amsoil and that way you'll have the peace of mind that you didn't did it yourself.

So you guys changed half the fluid. Was there a reason for that or can you just do the whole amount at once?
When you change the transmission fluid there's two parts of a transmission the transmission pan and the torque converter.
When you drain it it is only the pen and that's usually about 30 to 50% of the fluid.
So you can always come back and do another drain and fill and that will change more of the fluid.
If you ever want to try the Amsoil this is my personal link and that would attach me to you in the future I could always answer your questions about improving the performance and lifespan of your vehicles by choosing the right fluids as your independent Amsoil dealer.

You can do one drain and fill or several it's up to you to how much fluid you want to be in the transmission personally if it was my car I would do a couple drain and fills just to ensure it has the best in it that's what I would personally do.

Can you give me the names sizes of the tools you use so i can get the tools. Like the jack stand etc. Thanks
Of course I recommend the mechanics toolkit I got mine at Craftsman however you can get one at harbor freight for less or even you could go to Lowe's or home Depot and get one. Usually they're about 190 pieces and that way you won't have to go out and buy a bunch of individual pieces and waste your time.
I recommend a 3-ton jack stand kit are good.
And I recommend a rapid pump low profile 3-ton jack preferably the best one you can find That's the strongest it'll last a long time and that way you won't have to put a lot of stress on your body jacking up your cars.

@@Syntheticoilprotection 1 more question someone said dont mix oem and amsoil. They said when we drain the transmission oil only 50% goes out and theres still oem oil left in the transmission. Is it ok to mix the left over oem and amsoil or just stick to oem for now?
You can mix the OEM with Amsoil.

Correct you just fill it until it overflows and then let it level and then you cork it up 💯

Great question you want to use the lookup guy to hear and you want to use what it says on there it'll give you the fluid capacity and everything for your year make model and engine size if you want to do more than one drain and fill you would want to definitely get a lot of extra fluid to do multiple drain and fills.

Did you forget to change the crush washer? You're supposed to do that each time
Yes we did not change it I change it if it's damaged but if the Crush Washer is good I put it on the same way it comes off and you are fine to reuse it however if the Crush Washer is crushed on both sides it can start leak so it's good to change it if it's damaged but if it's put back on the same way it came off they do not leak
Some cars you have to change the transmission filter also. Right?
This one is a basic drain and fill
can you please link me to the tools used to open drain plug and fill socket?
Yeah I think they're both 17 mm and I recommend if you are just getting a basic tool set I would get a Craftsman or a Harbor Freight basic mechanics hand tool set their very inexpensive you'll have all the metric and American sockets and you'll have everything you need in just one tool kit that's what I personally recommend.
If you can I would also consider getting some used Snap-on tools at a some sort of estate sale you may be able to find really really good Snap-on tools which are the best
To change the transmission oil that way do you need the pump? or are funnels sufficient?
Yes you will need the hand pump that way you can pump it into the transmission from the fill hole.
It's very simple all you do is fill it until it overflows will it overflows and then you know its whole that's it.

@@Syntheticoilprotection Got it,Thanks a bunch much appreciated,so I would need 7-8 quarts if I'm going to flush it twice?👍👍👍
Yes that sounds about right it's always good to get a little extra just depends on the transmission sometimes mid-model year they change the transmission so it's always good to have a little bit extra and you can always use it a year or two down the road as long as you keep it sealed
So you don’t have to go through the gears before driving?
💯
You just want to make sure you fill it to the proper level and then you're good to go💯

☕, awesome thanks for sharing that with my TH-cam Community really appreciate you😊
tranny "casually shifting"? what did you mean by this? thank you!

On the little stick on the dashboard near the odometer you'll hold it in for 10 seconds then the oil light will blink once it blinks you hold it in for another 10 seconds and then it will reset to 100%.

On other videos they mention the need to replace the crush washer on the CVT drain plug.... Did this car not have one, or did I miss something?
Usually I do not change the crush washers unless it doesn't look right All you have to do is make sure you put it back the way it came off and it will fit up perfectly.
I've never had one leak yet.
If you buy the CVT fluid from Honda they throw in a new washer for free.
Most of the time the crush washers don't have to be replaced just depends on how tight and if you put them on the same way every time.
You said that you changed half the transmission fluid? How do you change the othet half?
11 quarts total fill pan holds 5 and 1/2
I been watching a lot of videos about this, and I must say that when I saw youres I thought to myself what' is this idiots doing? My apologies you guys are genius!!!Thank you, this it's the way I'm going to do my Honda transmission oil change.
Sweet. Yeah it's amazing how different the cars are and how they all need a different fluid and procedure.

dont you need to replace the crush washer on the CVT drain plug? going to attempt this the first time on my 2016 civic done at the dealer the first couple of times
Great question Charles I have never changed the drain washer and I've never had a leak I always put it on the way it came off that way it fits up with the pan.
Also those pans are aluminum and you don't have to tighten that very hard at all☕
@@Syntheticoilprotection couple of mechanics l know said to get one with the transfluid from the dealer, Auto repair at school told me that because they are crush washers going to attempt this myself after watching, l have a 2016. So it's better than Honda Genuine HFC-2 transmission fluid?
Yes it's not even comparable there are different fluids out there like mineral oil synthetic oil which is a synthetic blend and then there's 100% synthetic lubricants they have a higher film strength which keeps the metal separated You have better wear protection cooler operation for every 18° cooler a fluid runs at oxidizes at half the rate so this makes a huge difference in the longevity of your fluid and your transmission will last longer.
also the molecules move more freely so you have less parasitic drag which gives you better gas mileage.
It's a big big big difference.

How to reset honda civic 2017 system
It's in the center console I think there's a reset stick you hold down or you have to go to my vehicle in the dash computer it's one or the other most Hondas you just hold down the little rod near the odometer and then if it's a newer one you have to go into the vehicle settings under my vehicle
dont you fill the fluid from the top, where the fill hole is ? it will have a rubber plug saying hcf-2
Some of them are a little bit different just depends on the Honda there are some that even have a dipstick

I am concerned about the angle of the car being lifted to one side is it going to throw off the level? Is it better to have it flat on the wheels to have proper level of fluid?

We going to need a diy brake pad change video soon…. Pls and thank you
Hey Francisco the Hondas are one of the easiest cars to work on You'll see a lot of videos on that online basically it's the same thing all you need to do is go to harbor freight and get a c-clamp the c-clamp will allow you to push the caliper back so the new pads that are thicker will fit in.
How well does this oil work on a 2012 Honda stream
I've never heard of that model but it works wonders on Hondas it really runs a lot smoother quieter better in every way definitely worth it!

Do you monitor the CVT temperature? Any changes with AMSOIL CVT fluid?
That's a good question Daryl honestly I have no idea I can only assume it's going to be quite a bit cooler but I have not ever tested anything yet you'll notice your engine will run smoother less vibration and you will notice better fuel mileage and it will turn a lot easier in parking lots because the CVT is a transaxle so it's a transmission in a differential all in one and when you have the better film strength it will turn smoother and easier.

I recommend changing the bolt washer every time !
Yeah I always inspect them if they look good I don't bother with it.
I've never had one leak and I've done about 160 fluid changes
You just want to make sure you don't flip them around You want to keep it the way you had it when it came off
@@Syntheticoilprotection Lucky it hasn't, crush washers are supposed to be 1 time use.
Agreed with changing crush washer every time the bolt is loosened, they compress and can 'look good'
The fluid recommends HCF-2
Correct you can use any of the CVT fluids that meet that specification.
The amsoil One is an upgrade because it has the 100% synthetic which is a higher film strength less heat less wear smoother operation better gas mileage.
www.amsoil.com/p/synthetic-cvt-fluid-cvt/?zo=5331179
you'll also see that it meets a lot of other vehicle specifications.
Is there a transmission filter
Internally there is no transmission filter to change on this vehicle it's a basic drain and fill.
It's very important to keep up on these type of vehicles.
Preferably every 15 to 30,000 mi depending on driving conditions is a good time period to change the fluids on the trans if you're doing all highway driving you can go longer it's just one of those things that are very sensitive to heat.

How much should a transmission fluid change cost if you do it at a shop? I feel like my dealership is charging me too much
The fluid usually costs about 100 to $200 depending on the markup at a dealership.
Labor is usually $125 per hour.
You want to figure two smoke breaks and a lunch break it's going to be about 3.4 hours of labor plus parts.
Most transmissions cost about 3 to $600 at the dealership
Just depends on the year make model in engine size.
Let me say this , go to Walmart for a price, My Honda Accord CVT transmission takes close to 4 qt. of oil and calls for HCF-2 fluid Castrol has a gal container
$22.00 No filter involved You can do it yourself for that kind of money, and Castrol makes Great OILs, however if you like a certain brand name, buy it just make sure it has the right Spec. on the bottle

One more question, on the 2.0L, is the fill plug underneath the air box? Could I fill the transmission using the same transfer pump technique Vladimir used in this video? If so, any recommendations? Thanks again for the help
Yes it should be the same as his car it could be slightly different but usually it's always right there on the bottom Sometimes They do change the Transmissions mid-modelier which can happen but most likely it's exactly the same👍
Hey when should i change the Transmission fluid? for my 2019 civic lx 2.0 has 13,100 miles on it
If it was my personal car I would change it about every 20,000 mi.

Thanks!
It should say on the top of the motor or it could also be on the owners manual if you have that little box.
Away you can find out 100% is to take the VIN number and give it to the dealership and they can look up your exact model
Lol
Yes most of them you drain and fill from the bottom some of them the older cars had the dipstick tube or you fill it from the top part.
When should I replace transmission oil on my 2017 civic? I have 42k miles on it . Some say 30k or some 40k
Or do I have to replace it only when it notifies me in the dashboard ??
Great questions yeah that won't show up on the dashboard if it was my vehicle I would change the fluid every 20,000 mi of city driving or 60,000 mi of highway driving if I was using Amsoil.
I would definitely change it if it was my personal vehicle also the fluid can time out meaning after about 3 years it's good to change it if you live in a hot area because it oxidizes with age.
If you live somewhere colder you're good for about 5 years.
