Hey Mobile Mechanic, Thanks for this review, really got a lot of information needed to change my own filter myself. my Questions: 1. Is there any notification that comes up on the dash board informing you its time to replace the transmission Oil and Filter. 2. If No for Q1, at what miles is the best time to do both the oil/filter change. 3. Also i would l Luv if you can recommend links to where i can get the Tools you used(if possible in a set box, especially the powered Raject ) and also the links to get the filter and the ring rubbers(the 3 you replaces before closing up)
You will not receive a notification regarding any transmission fluid or filter service. I like to go with 30k Fluid changes to keep the transmission in good shape. Honda states this fluid is lifetime but that is just not the case if you want a transmission to last. I purchased my ratchet from Harbor Freight but they discontinued the model im using. Home depot and Harbor Frieght will have them for about 150ish - 200 depending on what your looking for. The tool set I use is this www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Mechanics-Tool-Set-270-Piece-H270MTS/309161789 I purchased the parts directly from Honda but you can find them online from various Honda Part Sites. @@MobileCarMechanic Hi, this is an excellent video and earned a sub from me. I've got ~165k on my '14 Accord now and is on the original transmission filter still as nowhere does Honda mention anything about the transmission filter, and this is good info on how to change it out. I'll go ahead and change mine out when it hits 200k - would be a good to see how the filter has held up. Appreciate the detailed two person video showing how to tackle various bolts and their locations as the job progresses. Thank you also for providing the p/n's for all the replacement components as well. Also, do have to mention that Honda does not state the fluid is lifetime for the 9th gen Accords ('13 - '17). The Maintenance Minder will throw code 3 when it's due. The manual however states to change the fluid every 25k in severe conditions - towing, mountainous driving, etc where the transmission sees higher temperatures.
Hi just wanted to ask a question I have a 2014 Honda Accord LX if I change the transmission filter do I have to top up the transmission fluid or not because I already changed it transmission fluid Or is it ok just leave it for next time when change it
If I only want to change cvt filter I will lose some oil when opening removing the filter, am I correct ? There's no need to drain transmission fluid before removing the filter right ?
I have a 2014 honda accord hybrid exl with 86,000 miles. Transmission fluid was never changed. Is it too late to change the transmission fluid? Should I change the transmission fluid?
They say not to typically change the fluid, we changed the fluid after 100k and the transmission honestly didn’t have any issues to this day. The car has 150k on it now. I think we changed around 120k
Can you get the o rings and the filter at any auto parts store? I finally have a day off coming up and would love to do it sooner than later. Do you have to special order this stuff online? Great vid BTW!
Thanks. I’m sure you could find o-rings of the same size elsewhere but it would be easier to get from the dealer. They should have it in stock. The only one I had to wait on was the o-ring on the filter itself.
Changed the filter but not the fluid????🤔 fluid is even easier to drain and fill. Fluid level check bolt makes it super easy to check level of transmission fluid. You need new fluid on any transmission especially cvt trans. Pretty good instructions on the filter but you should change the fluid with any filter. Just like an oil change. Good video tho
I like to do the fluid at 30,000 miles, we changed the filter but it wasn’t necessary as it’s not showing as a maintenance item. We did it with the fluid change.
Have a Honda Accord 2013 E. X. 196000 miles. Starting to get a hissing sound out of my tranny c. V. T. Change the trany fluidevery 30000 miles. I don't have no issues. It's shifting all right. I'm just worried about the little noise. That's coming out of there. I'm afraid to take it on a trip now. I don't want to get stuck on the road like I said, it's running and shifting good any suggestions.
Honestly I've not experienced this issue but others online state that it is normal for a CVT to make some noise. I would suggest Reving up the engine while in Park or Neutral and see if you hear the same noise to see if it is actually the transmission. My friend who owns this Accord had a loud whine from under the hood and we found out the bearings in the alternator and Belt tensioner pulley went bad. Potentially could be the same issue you are having.

You should check your PVC valve (This very easy only one bolt 10mm on the top of engine ) this is the main reason consume oil in this Engine! My car is Honda accord 2016 allway i check and clean this PVC valve every year ,my car had no consume oil at all ...
check if there is oil around the head valve cover. typical issue with 9th gen accords is the valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. about $50 for parts and not that difficult...plenty of YT vids.
Hi, I have a 2014 Honda accord lx. My speed meter keep go up and down while driving, I have changed the speed sensor and transmission oil, but it is still happen. Do you think that I need to change the transmission oil filter to fix the problem? My car has 70000 miles Thank you
Honda doesn’t change any filter and charging 300$ in Va for drain and refill which is ridiculous. According to them it’s unnecessary to change filters on cvt which I don’t understand. Thanks for video it’s helpful but this filter it’s for transmission fluid cooler which is helpful to change but more important is one in oil pan. That filter “internal” (the one in oil pan)or however you call it collects all metal shavings and debris from wear and tear and is more important to change. On bottom of oil pan are magnets that collect all metal particles and need to be clean if you want to maximize from that transmission fluid replacement. Bottom of oil pan turns to sludge and there is no way to clean it except manually , and replace filter as well, put new gasket and put back together, too much hustle that’s why nobody replacing that. Of course it’s important and helpful to change regularly your transmission fluid even just drain and refill but if you want to maximaze and benefit the most got to remove that oil pan. Thanks again for video. Good luck guys.
It may help slightly but the transmission itself doesn’t have gears like a torque converter based transmission would. They use belts and cone shaped pulleys.
I purchased my cordless ratchet from Harbor Freight but they discontinued the model im using (Earthquake XT). Home depot and Harbor Freight will have them for about 150ish - 200 depending on what your looking for.
So the transmission fluid that was lost when you replaced the filter, did you add more after you were done? Or was it not shown you refilling once you replaced the filter?
@@MobileCarMechanic I just changed my Trans fluid at 68,000 miles, but didn’t replace the filter…I didn’t see it as a maintenance item with Honda. Do you think it will be good for another 30,000 miles or should I change it now? Thx.
Nice job Honda designing this labor intensive BS to replace. Seems it would’ve been easier to just pull the block out. There must be tork specs for those 3 cooler bolts that should be followed.
I have an accord v6 2014 and when you turn it on it sounds like a squeak and I changed the new starter motor and the fault still continues, any solution friends
I would check your serpentine belt. It may need to be replaced. You can remove the belt and see if the noise goes away. Also check your pulleys to see if they squeal when you spin them. Before we replaced the belt on this accord we replaced the alternator and idler pulley due to a loud squeal that wouldn’t go away.
My pax side axel snapped in low speed, now my CVT (2013 accord) won't engage and makes a horrible sound. Am I right that the snapping axel damaged the tranny? I can spin the axel by hand even while in Park.
When I purchased the Honda Civic on this channel the axle had popped out of the transmission on the driver side. When I shifted in drive the speedometer would increase the speed showing that it’s driving even though it was not moving anywhere. Then when I put in park I’d hear a loud noise. That was the parking paw trying to lock the gears to prevent the car from moving. This may be happening to you and installing a new axle should fix the issue. When I inserted the axle everything was good and working normally with no damage. Replace the axle and let us know. Cheers!
Afternoon I’ve been having trouble with my Honda accord sport 2017 transmission I do believe around 2-3k rpm it seems to fluctuate at steady speeds, was wondering if you could give me your opinion it has about 113k miles I’m the only owner bought it brand new in 2017, I also live in Virginia!
Is there a check engine light on? Sounds like you may have a slight misfire from either plugs or a leaking valve cover gasket. I believe the owner of this accord also had this issue from complete stops and accelerating. If oil gets in the spark plug tubes it can cause this. Also worn out plugs or coils. Where in VA are you?
@@MobileCarMechanic No check engine light, I replaced my valve cover gasket myself an it’s no longer any leakage , I’ve also never had my transmission fluid or filter changed, I’m located in, Hampton roads area, Chesapeake
@@MobileCarMechanic don’t believe so, the only maintenance I’ve done since I’ve purchased vehicle new in 2017 is valve cover gasket an oil changes, what part of Virginia are you located I’m in Chesapeake
Might be good to replace your plugs if you haven’t already. We’re located in Northern VA. Chesapeake is a good 3-4 hours out from us. Does it feel like it’s stumbling and losing power around the 2-3k range?
Did you try to remove the filter housing without removing the battery and battery holder? I checked yesterday and it seems like it’s possible to reach the 3 bolts…not taking away from you video, by any means, just wondering. Thanks.
I didn’t bother trying. It may be possible but the working room is very limited. Especially how close the top of the cooler is to the bottom of the battery tray. Then on top of that you have to use a pick to pull out the filter. You will most likely be working from the bottom of the car in which you’ll probably get doused in fluid. I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth honestly.
Hi I got there check engine light codes onymy 2015 Honda accord p0717, p0796, p0717 is my transmission going to fail I have 95,000 miles on it I have never changed fluid on transmission and my mechanic says don't change now it's too late is he right
The P0717 states there is an issue with Input Shaft Speed sensor which would affect shift quality. Do you get a speed reading in your gauges? if not you may want to look at the harness/connector or replace the sensor. the other code states there is an issue with a Pressure Control solenoid C which could be cleaned or replaced. But I'd check the speed sensor first. Rule of thumb when it comes to transmission fluid is if its never been changed you don't change it because it could cause issues. I changed the transmission fluid on this car in the 100k+ mark. No issues so far and the owner of the car has already put 6k on it already without issue.
@@MobileCarMechanic I want to sincerely say thank you for this useful information thank you so much GOD bless you I do get a a speed rating but vehicle does not go beyond 40 miles An hour I believe that's because it's in limp mode so I think you right i should change the speed sensor first and see what happens and like I said tranny has 95,000 miles changing fluid should not cause damage it's to low of miles I'm going to do both change fluid and sensor
Honestly didn’t feel much of a difference. Replacing the fluid made the difference but not by much either. More just to make sure the transmission lasts as long as possible.

I'm doing my V6 currently. That friggin bolt under the battery tray... I REMOVED IT AND THREW IT ACROSS THE STREET.
Hahaha I understand
There is a second filter located inside of the transmission pan. to me that one is more important to change and just as easy.
We hope to make a video on the internal filter when that time comes. Cheers!
@@MobileCarMechanic Great video. Why don't you change both filters in once? Do they have different life span?
noticed a lot of fluid come out, do you add some back in when youre done or no? and how do you add more fluid because there's no dip stick that tells the level
I didn’t add any and it’s been fine, you have to use the check bolt on the bottom of the transmission to make sure it’s at the proper level.
Do the bolts need to be overly tight anywhere or need to be torqued to a specific foot pound or can they just be snug and not loose?
Great Video! What about the filter in the pan?
We haven’t done a video on that yet as we were not aware, when it comes to replacing the fluid again we will make sure to make a video on it!
i am bit skeptical about volume of oil, on youtube as per many mechanic/ Diyer mentioned 3.8/3.9 QT , but when i drain and measure used oil it came 4 QT and 600ML , when i fill new oil keep the car best possible straight , fill 3.5QT , start car move shifter all drive mode for 5-10 second 2 times and open leval plug (12 mm wrench) , again fill up by reaching almost 3.8 QT it start to come out , i plug it back , more or less i fill new oil 600ML less than what it actual came out, should i add atleast 200-300 ML ? or as long it overflow from leval plug it is good regardless what actual came out NB: i did this car first time i don't know that previous owner did transmission fluid chage before and he did over filled 600ML, if any expert can share on this
thanks in advace.
The little fluid you lost would you add a little back in or connect and leave it, just asking a question, not a test because they say what amount we take out we must try to match putting back in . thank you in advance.
I didn't add the small amount that was lost. It hasn't made a difference. you're more than welcome to do so without any consequences
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
K you gotta show how to pull that harness clip off cause I been tryna remove this clip for over 30min haha. I use my phone, I been tryna feel here to push or grab and pull. I’m abjure to grab pliers and rip it off
Are you referring to the one under the battery tray?
The tool set I use is this www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Mechanics-Tool-Set-270-Piece-H270MTS/309161789
I purchased the parts directly from Honda but you can find them online from various Honda Part Sites. Below are the Parts used for the job.

25564-5LJ-A01 O-Ring Bottom
91305-PN4-003 O-Ring for Transmission Filter

@@MobileCarMechanic Thanks alot for the detail response, appreciate.
Great video bro
Do you need to add back the amount of fluid spilled out?
You can but I didn’t since it wasn’t a large amount that spilled out.
@@MobileCarMechanic
Thank you for the well-explained tutorial
How often do I have to check the valve lash on honda engines?
Hi just wanted to ask a question I have a 2014 Honda Accord LX if I change the transmission filter do I have to top up the transmission fluid or not because I already changed it transmission fluid Or is it ok just leave it for next time when change it
I didnt top it off and its been fine since the replacement.
If I only want to change cvt filter I will lose some oil when opening removing the filter, am I correct ? There's no need to drain transmission fluid before removing the filter right ?
You don’t need to drain the fluid to change the filter. Some will leak out and make a mess.
I worked as a Honda dealer tech for 6 years, I never changed one of these filters, or even knew they existed. Honda does not say to change them.
Thanks for the info! Cheers!
Agreed. I had done that in a separate video. See th-cam.com/video/2odA07a2yOM/w-d-xo.html
at what odometer reading, one should change transmission fluid and transmission fluid filter?
@@MobileCarMechanic I took it some placewhere I have my car work done. They put it on the left and that little winding noise was coming from The tranny but like I said, it chips. Good and everything. Just worried about taking it on a trip. Now I don't know. They give you a warning before it goes or tha. It'll just quit on me while I'm on the road. Thanks for the reply back.
Should you drain all the fluid before changing the filter
I would do this when changing the transmission fluid so it’s all fresh. At the time we did the job the filter wasn’t available at Honda.
You have to do the filters if you change the oil correct?
Yes. Just like when you do an oil change you change the filter.
thanks for a great video. Can you do a video why the 2014 Honda accords consume oil? My 4-cylinder 2014 drinks 1 qt every 100 miles.
We will keep you posted when a video comes along. Thanks for the suggestion
Possible that Piston rings are letting oil through to the combustion chamber and burning it up there
You should check your PVC valve (This very easy only one bolt 10mm on the top of engine ) this is the main reason consume oil in this Engine!
My car has 70000 miles
Thank you
Most likely no this will not fix that issue. I would look at the wiring to the sensor. Was the sensor an original Honda sensor or aftermarket?
Thank you for suggestions.
Does this make the transmission shift better? I assume it does.
It may help slightly but the transmission itself doesn’t have gears like a torque converter based transmission would. They use belts and cone shaped pulleys.
Thanks!
Thank you!
can I get away without replacing the o rings on the warmer? they are hard to find. I have new filter and o-ring for filter
It would be advised to replace them as they will most likely be flat and won’t seal as well.
Hello Sir Awesome Job please tell me the name of the hand held tool device used to take the bolts off or out Thanks a million
I didn’t bother refilling the lost fluid as it was a small amount.
You can always do this service when you're also doing the CVT Trans fluid change to knock everything out at once
@@MobileCarMechanic I just changed my Trans fluid at 68,000 miles, but didn’t replace the filter…I didn’t see it as a maintenance item with Honda. Do you think it will be good for another 30,000 miles or should I change it now? Thx.
@@larryzapotocky1363 Yea you should be good for another 30K. I had replaced my transmission fluid first and after few months I replaced the filter.
Ok my question was answered thanks great video!
Can you remove the piece where the front filter is from underneath or not enough room?
Not enough room unfortunately!
Cool thanks much!
Thank you. Glad it helped.
Question. I replaced cvt filter, all Orings and oil at 60K. Should i do it again at 100k.
It’s up to you. I only did it once around 100k
How many miles was on the oil before doing this filter? I ask because the oil looked dark ?
It was around 135k.
Is there any transmission filter that should be changed in 2013 accord v6?
I’m not sure. I haven’t worked on the V6.
That sensor with the blue plug is that the intermediate shaft speed sensor??
That is the connector for one of the oil pressure switches for the transmission.
@@MobileCarMechanic do you know where the pressure control solenoid valve my car is throwing p0796
2013 honda acord sport tiene el mismo filtro de aceite como este del video???
Si. Filter is the same
Nice job Honda designing this labor intensive BS to replace.
Seems it would’ve been easier to just pull the block out.
There must be tork specs for those 3 cooler bolts that should be followed.
Great point!
Great job ! Is their a filter somewhere on an ‘08 accord? Thanks
I believe the V6 accord has an accessible filter but not the 4 cylinder
Every howmany miles should be changed?
It’s not part of the maintenance schedule. We replaced it thinking it was the main transmission filter.
So its basically something we dont have to do? since its not appart of the maintenance schedule@@MobileCarMechanic
Cheers!
@@MobileCarMechanic will do! Thanks!
The battery tray looks like the most difficult part of the procedure.
It definitely a pain given the limited access and angles.
Hi, Can u please help me to find were is ubicated the tranmission filter but in the 2017 V6 version?
It appears that it is also under the battery tray like the 4 cylinder.
Robert! does the V6 Honda Accord have a transmission filter? I want to change the transmission fluid l.
It appears there is one in the same location as this video from what I’ve read from the service manual
Just in case you weren't aware, the V6 Accord has a conventional automatic, not a CVT. Different fluid, I'm sure.
Have you replaced the spark plugs?
@@MobileCarMechanic don’t believe so, the only maintenance I’ve done since I’ve purchased vehicle new in 2017 is valve cover gasket an oil changes, what part of Virginia are you located I’m in Chesapeake
Might be good to replace your plugs if you haven’t already. We’re located in Northern VA. Chesapeake is a good 3-4 hours out from us. Does it feel like it’s stumbling and losing power around the 2-3k range?
Hey, what about internal filter, need I to replace it or not?
I would if you can. Wasn't aware at the time of recording that an internal filter was present as I thought this was the only one.
do you have to add oil after you replace the filter?
It wasn’t much that came out so we didn’t too it off.
Does the honda 2015 civic have filter also
It does. It basically the same design. You’ll need to remove the battery tray to get to it
Did you try to remove the filter housing without removing the battery and battery holder? I checked yesterday and it seems like it’s possible to reach the 3 bolts…not taking away from you video, by any means, just wondering. Thanks.
I didn’t bother trying. It may be possible but the working room is very limited. Especially how close the top of the cooler is to the bottom of the battery tray. Then on top of that you have to use a pick to pull out the filter. You will most likely be working from the bottom of the car in which you’ll probably get doused in fluid. I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth honestly.
I have looked at what you are suggesting. Although it is possible, following his steps is the better way to approach this. Just my two cents.
Yeah really great. Videos but the way ver well explain I wish you were on my state. How much a job like this will cost ??
I’m not sure but they would probably include this with a transmission oil change. Maybe around 200-300 dollars.
Nice video👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you!
I got some jerk when accelerating 2016 accord sport with 61k..been changing the fluid 30k intervels..errr

@@MobileCarMechanic so what is the solution for that?
Que pasa si le echo de mas y no checo el nivel ???

How did the transmission feel after you replaced the filter?
Honestly didn’t feel much of a difference. Replacing the fluid made the difference but not by much either. More just to make sure the transmission lasts as long as possible.
it's similar for honda crv-2016 LX 2.4L?
It should be similar. I haven’t had to do this job on one yet but it appears the filter is the same and it may take similar effort to replace
