After listening to this interview I find myself in complete alignment with the guest’s general outlook. We are in a depressingly small minority, but it’s good to know there are people like him working on products that incorporate these values.
The show is going downhill fast, and this episode really highlights that. I understand having sponsors, but they shouldn't be part of the show. One of the things I value most is your honest take on issues. When you have a sponsor, you're constrained and can't respond as freely. Many of his statements needed to be questioned or challenged, but instead, they seemed focused on promoting his business by pushing fear of big government. I respect differing opinions, but I expect my news sources to remain balanced. In this case, you were restricted, and it showed. If he weren't a sponsor, I believe you would have challenged him-one of the main reasons I listen to your show. If this continues, I may have to find another source for my AI news, despite being a big fan.
All rights are important, but all rights are not equally important. As important as the right the private communications is (very), it does not stand above the rights currently being trampled by an invading force. All sides (even the aggressor) have been quite clear that the app is the backbone of their communications network (as unbelievable as it seems), and, as such, it is a key part of the invasion. If one has the ability to hinder these acts, it is their fundamental duty to do so. Some apps, due to the nature of their construction, do not have this ability. However, the creator(s) of this app have left this door wide open. So it is then on them to help stop what they can. In absence of them doing this on their own, agencies should force them to do so given the scope and nature of what is occurring.
So basically this has less to do with AI and mostly an anti-government propaganda interview. I wish he didn't lean so heavily into the libertarian group think among the outsized ego faction of the tech community ("we've lost a sense of personal responsibility", etc). I also think using the American food pyramid being outdated is an example that government shouldn't tell us what to do was a weak argument. It was only a guideline and was based on science of the time, and was replaced in 2011 with myplate as more information about diet and health was developed. That's how public health works--you work with the best information you have at the time and revise as you learn new science. The anti-government and libertarian sentiment among tech bros is getting a little stale. Finishing with have it no idea why Dick Cheney is supporting Harris when the alternative is a man who tried to overthrow the government for the sole purpose of keeping himself in power and is out and about saying Haitians are eating your pets… sorry enough already. This entire talk is evidence that just because someone works in AI certainly has no relation to their knowledge of politics, government or really anything beyond their field.
This was a long-form commercial for one of your sponsors. Your disclaimer that it is not, does not change that fact. He presents all the points you make in the "ad" you voice over for using his services. His broad swipes on "government and agency" controls of our creativity and censorship are not fully accurate. You did not challenge any of his statements that were overly broad or just opinions with no proof. Your podcast and this channel are great for news but this pandering commercial-disguised-as-interview was a blunder
Good interview, good questions & topics.

One of my fav discussions this year

Excellent interview!
This is truly a man that gets it. Erik Voorhees earned a new fan today.

ooo, red flag
Xi Jinping built a shrine to pray for this bill to pass.
He even instructed Elon to support it.
