When you're doing construction you have two best friends and they are square and plumb. The closer you make the start, the easier and better the rest of the project will be. Great vid!
I can say that not too much people, is capable to do such work along, Firstly for handling of logs, in the way you do, second the courage you put on it all you show on the video. Great Michy!!!!
Your thought process is spot on with your deck addition. I framed houses and commercial buildings for about twenty years and when working with a out of square structure the best you can do is make it look good as long as it is structurally safe and to building code.
I've had to work projects like this by myself at 71 years old. I appreciate the struggles I see you going through as I've been through this rebuilding my termite ridden garage, hosting up 2x8 by 8 ft. long lumber over and over again to replace joist. My hats off to you watching all of the gymnastics that you have to go through juggling lumber to make it stay in place at correct angles.... very impressive. When you work by yourself you have to get very creative and it shows while your working... stay safe and good luck on your project.
@@backtothepast1850 I'm 66 retired and live alone in the rural Green Mountains of Vermont. I must say it's quite a challenge working alone hoisting beams, lumber and other building materials up and down ladders and working outside all day building pole barns, wood sheds and other structures, but it's fun.
You are doing a fantastic job with your build given the obstacle of the terrane with the slope. You stand up for each challenge that confronts you and should be proud of your accomplishments. You anchored the supports carefully and the deck looks great. More space. Love that your fur babies climb up with you to keep you company. Lenny was enjoying the visit from that Chipmunk. GOD Bless and keep you safe.
For all your struggles, I know a lot of guys wouldn't put in as much thought and effort that you are to build a little cabin. A cabin doesn't need to be perfectly square and straight, just soundly built to stand up to the elements. No house ever built is perfectly square. Well done.
Great job on putting this deck on your cabin. Scares the heck out of me watching you out there with no kind of safety belt on. Watched you build the cabin also and great job. Love the views.
Turning out great Michy! I love your calm voice on camera, but can imagine the cussing that happens off. But you always come off calm, cool and collected while you overcome each challenge on this build. Its going to be a great place to sip coffee and reflect on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Take care of those feet and the rest of you!
If she wasn't that calm person before she met Steve she probably got it from him.hes as calm cool and collected under fire as anyone I've ever seen. Quite the couple and team.
So beautiful! Young lady you are such hard worker do great work looks amazing. Have such a beautiful homestead. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy
I'm a glass half full kind of guy. I thought if you fall you'll probably find your other saw at the bottom of the cliff. Still my favorite dance moves are you and Clydes happy food dance. Love your build, you are the only one that you have to make happy on how it looks.
Thank You ! I’m SO glad that someone does carpentry the same way I do… just make it “look good….and it’s relatively (sort of) close ENOUGH! “ 😂. Bravo ! It’s a gorgeous deck ! Besides… who’s even going to NOTICE if things are a little wonky with a view like THAT ! ❤️
I think I'd harness myself to a tree while working on that steep slope. Also you could tie the post off to something so if it does fall you can haul it back up and not lose it down the cliff. Safety first! It's going to be one amazing little cabin with epic views!
Despite your modesty, that's superb craftmanship you're showing here. Respect. Can't wait to see the next transformation of this project, and once it's finished, just think of having a nice meal, a glass of wine or two and....that stunning view over the valley.
Hi Michelle Just a tip for getting framing square. You can use tape measure or just a string. You can measure diagonally from corners to get frame square. Very simple and quickly done. As always can't wait for next video. Cabin is really looking great. It warms our hearts to see them doggies on your pod cast with you and Steve.❤
Nice, nothing better than being in the company of the loving members of ones family and extended family. Hopefully your little friend doesn't startle you when he decides to sit on your shoulder. Hope to see the first time he/she does.
The deck turned out really nice even with all the challenges you encountered. I'm sure you feel a great accomplishment in getting it done and how well it turned out. 😅 Steve has done a wonderful job on the pathway as well. The both of you work hard and it shows. Reminds me of my earlier years on the farm. 😃🥂 Cheers for a good job!
Hi there I have Never saw your videos... I think you have Done a VERY good job on that DECK . And a Pretty Dog you have . And the Best thing I saw No man did that good job just you .... I will keep looking for your videos and watch them as I see them Thanks for sharing your house. God bless you and your family and Dog😊
Excellent video Michy! You should be very proud how that deck turned out. Sure, it might not be 'perfect' but you figured out a good work around and made it look great. I can't imagine the increased amount of difficulty considering what you have available for tools, working by yourself, on the side of cliff, being sore, moving the camera for different shots. Amazing video also, great mix of your thought process, the little squirrels, Lenny, the crows. One of your best videos 😉
Next time you want to square up a large area try using the 3-4-5 triangle method. (3ft by 4ft by 5ft) Description The 3-4-5 triangle rule states when the ratio 3:4:5 is present as the side lengths of a triangle, the triangle is a right triangle. The 3-4-5 triangle satisfies the Pythagorean Theorem which states that the sum of the squares of the two smaller sides in a right triangle equals the square of the longest side. Keep up the great work! 😊
I'm sure you already know it, but as a reminder, to make a corner square, mark a point 3 ft away from the corner on one side, and 4 ft from the corner on the other side. Then measure between those 2 points, and if it's square, it should be exactly 5 ft. Hope this helps. 😊 ❤
Oh darling I so wish I was there with you I would have so much fun and yes by now you probably know about 3-4-5 always, = A 90° you awsome and gorgeous if you ever need a helper I would love to come out and share the load your friend Dave. XXX~♥️ ♥️ ♥️
I’m amazed at what you do! I just started watching you and can’t explain it but I can’t stop watching you!☺️ I’ve watched so many couples you tube projects and understand the team work involved and experienced it with my wife. But there were days that if my wife wasn’t there? I don’t think I could have done it alone. So in answer to your question in title? Absolutely not! Hats off to you!☺️
lol... seeing you use a Japanese flush cut saw and then the chainsaw to trim that board you couldn't get to with the circular saw just makes me think of how thankful I am for oscillating tools. You should absolutely pick yourself up one. They are perfect for that kind of situation. Beautiful cabin and setting btw...
I'm impressed how that turned out, good job. All though I'm getting you a safety harness for now until you get a handrail and kick plate installed on your beautiful deck. You worry me to death while watching. Oh and they make a chisel attachment for the Hilti for flattening the bedrock. Little Lenny seems to have come a long way while becoming you and Steve's new boy, but he might still get your little chipmunk, I've seen that look before. Good that you were right there, letting him know your watching...lol enjoyed as always, think about that railing💕👍💕
Awesome job Girl! ❤❤❤ - and you most certainly live and work "on the edge" ❤ I'm so glad you didn't leave us all hanging 'til next week with a "cliff hanger" episode!❤
Hats off to you girl!! You do amazing and are right up there with the best of us construction workers!! Next time you get out off square...rip a 2 inch strip and attach it to your deck plank making it wider...then trim off the other side at an angle to correct your piece. Then from the corner of the cabin out to the edge will be uniform....😉😀
You are the Queen Carpenter with the drive of a Honey Badger!!!!!! Love this video and the way you broke it up with the dogs , Lenny and the chipmunk, you narration and comedy, the swimming after all that work the day before and Lenny bopping down the steps matched to the rhythm of the music! Out of the park today Michelle! Out of the park! Keep making decisions to be safe too! 👍🏻👍🏻
Loving the way you get everything to land in the right place and trust your eye to line things up. You do such a great job without any help, altho you might want to use a helper nail here and there. Excellent results, no matter how you do it!!!
The deck looks great. My first thought, was plopping down a chair, having a drink, and enjoying that awesome view. I hope you put up a railing soon, for safety's sake.
Yet another awesome video displaying your drive to get things done in somewhat precarious positions on a mountain. The tidbit of humor is always welcome as well. Wink!
I always say prayers for you that nothing happens and you stay safe each cabin visit. You are by yourself and a fall where your at can be very dangerous. Your determination is impeccable. I believe because you stay physically fit, you are able to do so much more. Your cabin is looking so good and it should withstand the weather for many years. I love your safety in using bigger posts and I do agree with you wanting to add a few more support angles. Smart move. Big Hugs from Santa Barbara, Ca . ❤😎🌹🍷😘🙌
You should tie a piece of string around your wrist and around your drill Michy. That way if you drop it you can follow it down and see where it lands 😂. Fantastic video again my dear ❤

That must be a rush to be up there on that deck, the view, the feeling that you are looking down on all that beauty. Wow, you really just are non stop :) Not sure I believe you even sleep! You and Steve really have a wonderful property set up. That cab on the c is just a piece of heaven you made. We really enjoy watching it come together and keep you in our thoughts that you may safely fulfill your quest. That you for sharing this journey.

Lenny is so sweet. Contentedly living his best life. Thanks again for the content.
The Peace, the beautiful scenery, the animals, the solitude. You are Living right. I love your creativity. Great Video!
You are amazing and put many men to shame with your drive and overall work and the projects that you undertake. Kudos all the way.

Super video!!! I don't think I ever saw a square building. That's why molding was invented.. you are truly an inspiration. Many thanks!!!❤

Pythagoras is in da house!
@jimbop4499 It's so easy, even a child can do it! 😄
@Ian.. of course....the bigger values the more precision.
Just do it in multiples of 3,4,and 5. Using 3ft as a base would be 9ft...12 ft....and 15ft.

Good job. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Amazing view!
