    Michelle As I Lay in my bed here in the southern Missouri Ozarks I stumbled on your video and I thought boy if that doesn't remind me of the!! up !!... in which I homesteaded off grid up there for 8 years and ran around other years fishing and exploring😊 watching your video makes so many memories of building cabins off grid. I love the wild but then people started coming in running generators Yahoo's from down around Chicago and they took the peace and quiet away from the Wilderness and it drove me crazy.cant do that. anyways I sure got a lot of experience and memories of homesteading most of my life. now I live in a house that's over a hundred years old getting 8 by termites and I can't afford to go out and buy a piece of land, everything is gone absolutely insane! But you got every Gadget in the book their all that modern stuff! I still dream about getting out of here somehow,, but I'm on a small Social Security now. you know when I left the,, up, I left so much stuff behind! I gave away two semi loads of huge Atlantic White Cedar Logs😢 and left things on the property and gave things away, Broken Dreams because the wife abandoned me again😢 she got to know the loggers when I wasn't home really well😢. also what a heartbreaker I also made sure my two sons had property up there but they got rid of it also one of them was a dead end 15 Acres joining the National Forest I should have kept that one😮😮 but the problem was you didn't know if you were going to be able to get back there if the road was going to wash out! there was two huge 10 ft culverts the spring snow melt n rains took out! and there's absolutely nothing you could do yourself if the road maintenance didn't take care of it off grid Private Road.

    Yessssss! Heinz beans, only the best . I have a little cooking tip if anyone wants to try it please enjoy. So after cooking either a steak or say bacon in a frying pan then do not wash the pan & that is what you heat your next tin of beans up in. Even better if it had some onions in with the steak say. Enjoy. You take care with all those sharp implements Michelle. Looks good 👍🏆🇬🇧😎

    Hello Michelle ...I am a huge fan and totally enjoy watching you and all of your projects. I myself am a carpenter for the last 55 years. I am watching you level the posts for your fort. You need a water level...very simple to make one...gallon plastic water jug with a simple fitting near the bottom, 20 feet 3/8 clear flex plastic line some water and add food coloring and level anything you want and you can even level around corners 😊

  • @gregwoollacott2618
    @gregwoollacott2618 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Suggest you consider using a water level instead of a string level on your next rustic build. It's an ancient but simple tool that consists of a bucket of water, a long length of small diameter plastic tubing, and some food coloring. The coloring will make it easier to see the water level in the tube. Place the bucket full of water at a fixed spot, then fill the tube by creating a siphon. The bucket must be at an elevation, which allows for a level equilibrium to be reached between the water levels in the bucket and tube without draining the bucket. Use the level in the tube to establish reference points/marks on each one of your vertical supports. Measure up from these marks, which will all be at the same elevation, and then cut the vertical supports at the desired height. You may want to go to TH-cam for hints on how to use the water level. Use food grade antifreeze in subzero temperatures for obvious reasons 😊.
    -Greg

    @rawkneepeefrompleasantvall2853 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Michygoss, I know that isn't your name, not the point here, I don't wanna get too technical but, I'm an Ex Bridge engineer, so here goes. The Purpose of this kind of foundation is that the weak point is always going to be the the ground to structure interface, so with that in mind a person can't rely on the foundation to be solid so He/She must construct the structure solid, and allow for movement in the support, ie foundation, l suggest that with that in mind a person must solidify the posts to the structure in such a way, (braces, Plywood gussets etc.) in order to mitigate the anticipated movement of the footing, if the connection point of the post to footing, is too unforgiving then the damage caused by the inevitable movement, of the footing, will cause structural damage. So in essence the wedges placed to help in construction should be removed after construction, to allow for a certain amount of movement. Bridges allow for both types of movement and use bearings, or bearing plates, to maintain Structural integrity, while allowing for the inevitable Expansion of Contraction.

    I'm using reclaimed wood too, in all my projects. One day I went to take apart a bed frame someone left outside their home. At the end, stacked all the wood inside an 80l backpack, got the backpack on my back, and since it was quite heavy, decided to pick the skateboard up and carry it home. It actually took me a few good minutes for the idea to drop. "You moron. Put the skate down, place the backpack on the skate, push it effortlessly (more or less) home!"
    Even one set of skate trucks, with big longboard wheels, screwed in to one end of those beams. Pick the other end up, steer by twisting the beam. Possibilities and variations are endless.
    Stay legendary. Love your work

    Fun fact... I got into it with my boss a couple years ago regarding the use of impacts to run screws. The ENTIRE factory used impacts to run self-tappers into steel, so I did some research. Every single company that makes self-tappers specifies DO NOT USE AN IMPACT. LOL I even called a couple of them and talked to their support guys and they said the same thing. It's the same with decking screws, they say to not use an impact, yet everyone does it. I had trouble running Camo screws into Trex last summer so I called the local supplier and the first thing they asked me was "Were you using an impact tool?" LOL (I wasn't)

    Well done, great start , great editing and music use. Also you are right it seems extra fast for some reason but the cold temps are coming on us quickly, won’t be surprised to see the white stuff make an early start, especially in your area. Note for future, next time you want to cut the foam board just use your skill saw, it does a perfect job. PS - For a while when working and lifting with your hand tape your injured finger to the one next to it. This protects it from over use and jamming it.
