CERO is essentially the opposite of ESRB. They tend to be much more harsh on blood and gore than suggestive material though depending on the game they can be equally harsh with that when it comes to things like nudity and actual depictions of the sexual behavior.
I think games like Doom Eternal get away with the violence because there's no violence against humans which the CERO is heavily against which its only violent against demons and CERO has no problem with that. Though I have no idea why release Wolfenstein in Japan when the series barely reach 5k and is way more gorey than Doom.
@@jadedheartsz As they say agree to disagree. I feel like most people were willing to give the movie a pass because it had a Hemsworth. Didn't save it nor did it particularly improve it.
CLARIFICATION: CERO only rates CONSOLE games. PC games are mostly unaffected unless the publisher specifically says so. A big example is the Torture Scene in GTA V. If you probably watched, like say, Hololive VTubers play the game, you can come across clips of them playing said scene (some of them are even happy to play it), as they're mostly play on PC (they switch to PS4 for GTA Online due to hackers).
Slapped between China & Japan, Korea is the best place to play uncensored games in the Far East. (We still do censor some games, but it could have gone worse comparing to neighbors left and right)
Weirdly Abe from the oddworld games is apparently where that type of censorship I think started. It was either that or rayman I'm not sure which came first technically.
Animated gore is fine, but "realistic-looking" gore is a no-no in Japan. Just like how "realistic-looking" nudity is fine in America but "slightly-sexy" anime is censor-worthy.
Yep because some countries don't start touching themselves to real-ish depictions of violence like the US....Japan is the same country that Hentai exists in because porn is illegal. Most Asian countries have blurred censored porn
Japan have the weirdest censoring system, you look at some of their film like Itchi The Killer and a lot of there Horror films and and they pretty gruesome. But video games violence it seems is completely different beast and needs to censored, and then again games like Rapelay and sexual predator are ok. It just makes no sense. I love Japan as a country but it is hard to get around their reasoning at times. And Japan came up with the idea of the Bukkae as well.
No it was originally part of the game, I played it unpatched the day it came out and before the level there was a message asking if you wanted to skip it.
How infantilizing is it to have your government say that adults can't handle digital blood or nudity (or recognizing Tibet and Taiwaan as independent).
I have to ask with some of these games why even bother at a certain point. If you have to remove things that are the whole selling point of the game, why even bother?! Thing to be honest I have asked myself about eastern games that have had to be heavily censored as well. At some point it's better to just not even bother than to butcher it so terribly.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Money: I wouldn't pay full price for a heavily censored game, but it's obvious that hundreds of thousands of japanese players are fine with that. Language barrier: The average japanese is monolingual, they don't speak nor understand english, so these butchered localizations are a necessary evil for those monolingual players (I'm argentinian, I'm not a native english speaker, that's why I'm very critical of young monolingual people). Ignorance: God knows how many of them are aware of the fact that they are playing censored games, although it is a bit obvious with games such as Resistance 2 and Killzone 3.
I mean if thats what you need to tell yourself to get through the day. But in reality China could decide tomorrow they are going to become part of China and ZERO countries on the planet would start or risk starting a world war with a nuclear power
The fact Japan censored that Until Dawn death is incredibly hypocritical considering the violence and gore that has been exported from Japan in my lifetime. I'm actually quite angry about such hypocrisy.
What about the rest of Call of Duty games, In the Japanese version of MW2, if you shoot a civilian in "No Russian" while Makarov ordering the player to do so, you will *FAIL* the mission. And also in CoD: WWII, the now iconic scene of Normandy beach landing was censored and all the amount of gore was removed in the Japanese version. I saw that video from Censored Gaming.
Censorship simply has no right to exist in any way, shape or form. Never has and never will. I hate censorship and avoid it as much as possible, even if it means that i dont understand the language (i am looking at you original FFVIII) or dont play the game at all since its censored everywhere (i am looking at you modern games, especially on the Playstation).
See I don't understand the Japanese version of fallout 3 having the nuke detonation left out but leaving the nuke in. You can't make your cake and eat it
Well religeon wise, the Japanese are predominately atheist aren't they? Which would mean to them that any religeous references were no more significant than Harry Potter references to a western audience.
I wish more ppl knew about them. I can't watch anything that paints the early modern Japanese military in a good light(and there are kind of a lot of things like that). They did atrocious things. Also the way modern Japan deals with sex is... offputting, to say the least. I hate the weeb fanwank over Japan. Not saying that any country is perfect, but it seems like Japan kind of gets a pass.
CERO is essentially the opposite of ESRB. They tend to be much more harsh on blood and gore than suggestive material though depending on the game they can be equally harsh with that when it comes to things like nudity and actual depictions of the sexual behavior.
But sadly CERO isn’t strict enough on sexualised depictions of minors.

I thought Simon Miller popping up was Johnny Sins 😂😂
No Russian is controversial, sure, but it sets up the story in such a way that not playing it doesn't make it have such a big impact.
