    What a great video… looked everywhere to find out if I could get this hub & bearing in one piece for my Subaru Impreza but I couldn’t until I found your video showing how its done … true legend

    Little tip when you do these Subaru bearings to seat the race completely use the old race from the old bearing. It will not get stuck just tap it with a hammer and it'll fall right out.

      I have heard that. I did both sides on that car and they came right out. I did soak them in pb blaster because I was told they are a fight. I hate rusty cars and glad I live in the south because of that LOL. That hub was a pain to get out with the slide hammer. Got to find a better way

      I JUST DID PNE THAT WAS RUSTED SO BAD IT WELDED THE BOLT TO THE BUSHING INSERTS, THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEM OUT IS BURN THE BUSHINGS OUT WITH A TOURCH AND REPLACE BUSHINGS, ,

      I had a nasty one on mine. I will tell you a big secret that works a treat. Get a HONDA crank bolt socket. lisle makes it 19mm. Weights 2-3lbs. Heat the sections that are covered with the hubs. The end nut as well. Spray with deep creep .cordless Milwaukee impact (1400ftlb model) i had both mine out in under an hour. That was a coastal vehicle. Replace and spray with fluid film.

    Just finished one of these. The long bolt doesn't get stuck in the knuckle too much, it's the control arm bushings that get seized, solid. I ended up cutting the bolt & drilling out the bushing collars for the new bolt. An air hammer/chisel comes in handy. Otherwise can be done with a minimum of tools, such as a few large sockets, some wooden blocks and a mini sledge hammer. Just be sure to take some sandpaper or scotch brite to the inside of the knuckle and outside of the hub so the bearing will slide on easier. And don't forget the backing plate before you get the bearing and hub on. Even if you buy the preassembled knuckle you'll still have to deal with the worst part, the long bolt.

    Why did the hub need to be replaced?

  • @WEEman137

    Just did this on my 2002, and packed the bearing. However, now it’s getting hot. Torqued it to 134 like I read on a Subaru forum. Any suggestions?

    • @HotRodDave
      @HotRodDave  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How hot? You must have got it to tight. Might have to start over if you smoked the bearing

    I kept going back and forth and cannot see where you installed the seal on the hub..? There are three seals on the rear and two on the front wheels.

    • @HotRodDave
      @HotRodDave  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both sides came right out. That's the only one I have done and I know others have had problems as well. My guess is salt or a lot of dirt and rust in there. Soak it with pb blaster

    • @nick10campbell
      @nick10campbell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HotRodDave I soaked it overnight and came back the next day working that thing for hours. It got stuck in the rear trailing arm bushing so I undid the other end of the trailing arm and slid it out with the bolt stuck in it haha

    What's the usual labor hours for something like this? I'm being quoted 2.4 hours to install a SKF rear wheel bearing and hub assembly

    • @HotRodDave
      @HotRodDave  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't 100% remember that was several months ago. I think it had 2 different seals in the back. If you look up a parts explosion online or call a Subaru dealer parts department they can tell you what you will need.

    • @HotRodDave
      @HotRodDave  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Appalachianpyro Oh that's not good. Timkin is usually the brand you want but I have heard they are not as good as they once were. Like pretty much everything. That's not an easy repair even if everything goes well. I would hope they will warranty them for you . I like to buy local for that very reason. I don't like shipping back on my dime.
