    There’s many videos on Subaru rear wheel bearing replacements out there. But yours is honestly the best one I see explaining everything on doing this properly and avoiding damage to these parts. Very well done! 👍🏻

    The most detailed wheel bearing installation video I have seen so far! I'm surprised that has not gotten more likes. He goes very much in depth in regards to the seals which are detrimental to successful installation

    I just finished this job today installing my very first rear wheel bearing on my ‘01 Forester. It took a long time because it was also a learning process for me. If I may say something/give some advice to those attempting this job: (do not use woods, metals or anything to hold/brace the spindle plate). Do not put any stress on it. The plate is strong, but it’s not designed to withstand the force of a press when pushing out/pressing in a bearing. Bearing pressing kit tools should seat/put the pressure on the spindle, hub and bearing itself only. I almost ended up bending my spindle plate and with a bent ABS sensor hole, good thing I noticed it right away. This was a great video. Good luck!

    That knuckle looks relatively clean considering. I'm quite sure it wouldn't look as clean when repeatedly
    exposed to Autumn and Winter seasons. This is the most complete video on wheel bearing replacement. Awesome

    This video has surprisingly good camera angles and lighting, showing the process in better detail than all the videos I've seen done by professional mechanics. Those guys usually do the procedure on the car with a slide hammer or hub tamer to save time and avoid a wheel alignment. It's easy to see why these old style pressed-in bearings usually grenade as they are removed, since you can't reach the snap ring until the hub is off. Your video nicely shows how the snap ring retains the outer race, and corrosion of the hub holds the inner race, so the two bearings inside are torn apart as the hub come off. I have one suggestion for close focus. Make sure you're zoomed to your widest angle when trying to see something small and close. It's very tempting to zoom the lens to magnify, but as you zoom the minimal focus distance for any lens will always increase. Better to stay wide and move the camera as close as you can. Excellent video!

    I think you made the best video out there on Subaru rear bearing replacement, for that particular vintage. Your description of the process and parts involved is magnificent. Regarding the bearing itself is that a seal on it, or is it factory grease, at 16:54... did you perhaps pack it yourself? There is some controversy regarding the need to pack Subaru OEM bearings. You seem knowledgeable, what is your take on it. I suffered multiple rear bearing failures and would appreciate any info that could prevent such.

      Oh mate, literally just unbolt the wheel, disconnect wheel speed sensor from wheel well and strut, 2 caliper mounting bolts and caliper, and then the 2 bolts at the bottom of your strut/coil. The top bolt aligns your camber so it's wise to mark its original position. Then just remove the castle nut from your lower ball joint and pop it out!

    • @peak_ascendr9960
      @peak_ascendr9960  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luckily mine weren't frozen, but I've heard stories and they usually end with needing to buy a new sensor because it is destroyed trying to remove it. I would try some pb blaster and try to gently pry between the knuckle and the sensor bolt hole. Also hit it with an air hammer to try to loosen rust.
