She sure is a sweet girl and very smart! I was surprised she didn’t jump at the rabbit! It startled me more than the mules I think 😅 thank you for watching!
I'm usually not an appy or a mule fan, but isn't she cute! And a nice, steady temperament. You guys have done a good job with her. I think putting in time and desensitizing and exposing them to things without rushing makes such a huge difference in building trust with them. It's more of a partnership in the end, and you end up with a calmer, more sound and thoughtful animal.
She looks so cute. I have a story kinda like Jason’s. I was riding my dad’s mule and Ive ridden her before and she just wasn’t feeling right. She wasn’t listening right she wasn’t moving like she normally does and my saddle felt weird, so same deal I got off and turns out the water bottle holder I couldn’t find was under my saddle right on her withers. I loosed up and took that out and she rode like a dream like she normally does. I felt dumb but I was saddling quickly and helping my nieces and just didn’t notice something was wrong til I got on.
Haha what a good girl!! She’s like, “Lady! Something is wrong!” 😅😅😅 it’s pretty amazing what they will put up with! A good equine is worth their weight in gold ❤️☺️
Really enjoy your mule journeys. I abandoned my little boy dream of having horses and living in a cabin in the woods but with the American cities turning crazy it might be time to dust that dream off. For now I can live through you two and your extended family.
I know some folks love it, but the city life is definitely not for us lol We’ve lived in a little apartment for a time while we were paying off all of our debt and I told Jason that I’ll live in a wall tent in the woods before I do that again 😅😅 its never too late to start chasing dreams ☺️ it’s interesting how this lifestyle calls to some of us even from a young age. I wasn’t raised in a ranching or hunting family, but I always dreamed about living in the mountains with my horses in a cabin too… it took me a while to figure out how to do that (we live in a double wide, so not quite the cabin I pictured LOL) but It was worth pursuing that passion ☺️👍🏼
Thank you!! It did go well, I felt like it should but sometimes you just don’t know what will bug them lol other than the scary rock and that dog there wasn’t too much that worried her haha! Had to keep an eye on that border collie 👀
She did great. She’s almost ready for panniers full of aluminum cans. Its so good to get them out at that age. took my little 2.5yr old mustang on her first pack trip in the mountains this week. She had a blast, though she did learn hitting the brakes too hard going downhill in snow doesn’t work real well.
Yeah! She’s packed those at home already😃👍🏼👍🏼 Haha I would love to adopt a mustang one of these days! So glad your little stang had a good first outting! I’m sure he will remember it’s slick 😅😅
wow she's such a good girl. And I think the secret is to keep it nice and respectful. Saw a video of the best mule a cowboy had. But when it came lose it run away and after 3 days searching, they had to catch it with a lasso. I think your mules will come to you when they got lose because they trust you and they feel save and respected.. Keep up the good work.
She really is a special girl! Haha I would hope our mules would come back! Sometime equines get a taste of freedom and can really get carried away 😂😂 but after a good run I bet they would settle down and come back haha
Thank you! Haha we are sure thankful Reata is as kind as she is and didn’t take off bucking with that cactus poking her how it was! 😬 poor girl! It was really stuck in her side! She did NOT like me pulling it out 😓 poor thing
Dang she looks good with her little pack saddle. She look like she is really going to enjoy her trips with you all. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!! ❤️ I’m definitely not a professional and there are probably people that can get it done faster and better, but this works for us lol and I like to keep it positive for them ☺️
Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing! Amazing story about the cactus and Riata. Such a good girl. As a kid, I remember riding in the hills with a friend and her appy mare exploded when a piece of cactus got stuck into her flank. My poor friend suffered from a concussion because of it. May you have a blessed New Year!
Ouch! That’s what we would have guessed Reata would do!! She was so touchy when we got her, but she really wants to be good ❤️ we really lucked out with her! Happy new year!! ☺️
She's doing a great job carrying air packs. She seems pretty confident on her feet. Thanks for all the good training tips. "Goin' down the trail with Josey."

Wow, that was very impressive for her first time being ponied. You are just what she needs for a great foundation of training and trust. I wish we lived close by, l would bring our mules out,we have 6 . I need to start riding again this year, miss it alot. I think you just were the catalyst l needed to get back to where l need to be, on a good mule! Happy New Year!❤

Thank you so much! We can’t believe she’s ours 😊 and yeah, her brown hair actually grows a little longer than her white hair… it’s really interesting 😊
Nice video guys! Thanks for sharing. She’s got the perfect camouflage for that broken snow floor. I know my dogs with white on them normally stand out and are easy to see, until you get into conditions like that, then they really blend in. But, then again, it wouldn’t be the high country if we weren’t snowed out for several months!
