❤🎉😮 Woo hoo thread the needle!! Gus and Boom such sweeties, can't believe how well they stop on a dime every time!! Really a great video thank you John, loved seeing you brush and harness them, loved "hearing" the stillness of the woods, awesome picturesque views..we love experiencing a little part of it !! 😍🙂🐎🐎❤️🌳🌳🇺🇲🙏
Two little mud puppies 😂. Makes me smile as they stand there reviling in the groom. Ohhh little to the left please.😆. Love watching them get harnessed, and putting their heads down for you. Love these guys.
Very very impressive - I like how you gave the gentle correction when one horse tried to back out of the trailer too soon. You paused and let him think after giving him the correction, too.
Does Boom have any mule in him? Maybe it’s just the way he looked on the screen but his face looked a little mulish 😂 He’s a gorgeous boy no matter what. They both are in my opinion!
The amount of trust between yall is amazing. Dont think some realize not every horse can do this. I say i have a bomb proof horse lol......just dont let a pig around him!! You better hang on! Anything else even deer jumping out dont scare him. How long were the boys trained? Btw my horse is 17hand buckskin.
They're so Big! I really like watching them work. My husband and I ysed to eat with wood. Abd we lived on an acreage that had trees. My Dad had a pony abd a small mule that we used to drag logs with. Plus we had 2 white mules to spare them as we were pulling the logs up a hill. We people took turns going up the hill also. Let me tell you I wasvin my 20s then and had a heck of a time running up the hill to keep up with the team. Watching you brings back memmories. These 2 are a great team. Amazing to watch all if you working. Thank you.
Good morning John, Boom and Gus☀️ My every day pleasure, my daily joy and welcome lessons - thank you so much🤗👍 May be I should pick up my "little" Percheron and emigrate to TN...😉😊 Then, depending on the area, we could work as a troika- or so called unicorn formation. You see - you've infected me with the "logging virus"🤩 All the best, protection and motivation from Germany for you three❤
Great video, I lo e watching Gus n Boomer get geared up and working! You are a very talented logger and work so well with them! Keep up the great work❤!
I used to put honey on my horses bit. He would come running no matter where he was in a 100 acre paddock to have his bridal put on. I wanted him to know that every time he came good things happened. ❤ It’s such a beautiful thing to watch you and your team. How beautifully you work together. Thank you for representing best practice. ❤
I love how the first one helped you get his harness on by taking a small step forward when you pulled it back. And the second one enjoyed the compliments you gave him! I enjoy them just patiently waiting to get to work.
Is the harnessing and rigging different for a carriage and logging…I’m assuming yes. Would it be the same for 4 or 6 horses? Would love a video on how the parts of the harness work to help the horse pull that weight. They are beautiful horses.
Hi John, Dang no captions. Got my hearing aids in for all the good they do.Do you have more horses than Boom and Gus that you work? Who would have thought I would enjoy watching you and the boys work.
Lovely to watch and listen to you over my morning coffee. Blissful. How old are Gus and Boom? Have long have they been with you? Stay safe, John, Gus and Boom ❤
Follow your dreams and aspirations and never loose faith young man . Horse longing is the gentle way to treat the forestry reserves. You have them so quite and confident , they trust you unconditionally . I am a West Australian heading to New York state for some personal training at Jim Gordon's place a bit latter on this year .
It is interesting how I see you walk and stand behind your horses. I have always heard that you should never do that because they might kick. I have never dealt with horses, so I don't know if this is just a myth or just does not apply to your horses. They are all so calm and relaxed and you seem to have no concerns - but I am guess it is your relationship and the breed that allows for what you do.
That is a general safety precaution either when with a new horse or for people unused to the risks involved around horses in general. When you get a working partnership/bond with your horse that risk is much less. You have to have that trust particularly with a working horse as it is necessary to often be behind it because of the working equipment that it pulls etc.
If you don't know your way around horses, that is good advice. But horses have a body language you learn to read, if you're paying attention (not everyone does, obviously, there are absolutely atrocious horse owners out there). A situation where an otherwise friendly horse might kick, is when it's utterly surprised by suddenly noticing you behind it. They are prey animals, after all and have the instincts that go with that. But here, for example, the horse was both visibly relaxed and also paying attention to where he was and what he was doing. You can usually tell by their ears, even if they're not moving their heads. They'll swivel around like little radar dishes, following your movement. When in doubt, it's advised to lightly touch them as you move around them, to keep them aware of where you are. But while brushing and tacking them up, they will be acutely aware of your presence anyways. And obviously, if a horse is agitated or aggressive or half asleep and not paying attention, you should stay out of kicking distance. And yeah, breed and temperament absolutely are a factor. These are clearly exceptionally chill guys.
Probably the people who commented about them being trailored that way with everything on are less concerned about whether you and the horses are solid at doing it that way and more concerned with the fact that if you were to crash or the trailor got shaken up somehow they could become hung up.
Ok this will probably sound really ignorant, but here goes nothing. Why use horses to pull heavy logs? All that equipment they're wearing looks extremely heavy and watching them steuggle to pull some looks cruel, imo opinion anyway.
I feel abused every time I have to do heavy work in the yard. Wish someone would call the Humane Society on my behalf, so that I could just lie on my sofa.

That view is just like mine. At the top of the hill, that is. I'm nestled in the holler. My road used to be a logging road. Best life ever.
