    I had similar service from ARB over an air compressor that melted a cable, they took the compressor and did a full refresh rebuild for free, 5 years after I bought it, and included any updated parts, I still have the compressor over 10 years old now. Still going strong.

    A company can have a great product but it's the customer and after sales service is what really shows what a company is about. I'm relatively new to 4w driving and currently looking at arb for a vast majority of the parts. This video has given me the confidence to buy from them. Great video and you gained a subscriber

    I knew you would stay on the high road Terry, but hats off to ARB for backing their (7 year old) product in - no questions asked. That goes a long way to keeping repeat customers in the house and bringing new ones to the party.

      Great approach to marketing by ARB, but Terry, why did it fail? You can’t just say it was old …. Ultimately there was “a mechanism of failure”…..when it broke, why did break? What limits repeated over extension of the strut? Is there/ should there be something to limit repeated over extension of the strut other than banging metal to metal at the end of the suspensions travel? Ps. I suspect there was nothing faulty in the manufacture or design of the shock absorber itself.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @chrisheap420 yes, excellent support. Any mechanism of failure is a guess

    Once again great tech video terry. I really enjoy watching your content. It’s great to have the knowledge to do these sort of repairs not only for myself but also for anyone I meet on the track that need help. It’s also great to see ARB standing by there product. I bought a jeep with an arb awning attached. ARB awning fell off the roof rack. Right off its rivets and not from the mount. This was in central america. ARB worked with a local rep to get it replaced and installed. I couldnt prove purchase being a second hand owner. Grateful for their support.

    Fiendly pro-tip for you next time, you only need to undo the two lower ball joint bolts and sway bar link, and crack the camber/caster adjuster NUTS, so the lower control arm simply swings down and out of the way. This allows every strut assembly to slide in and out without having to undo anything else, other than the brake hose and abs attament bolts.
    I've seen a few of the BP51 lower Strut failures now. Mmm.
    Awesome video as always

They literally stand by their product even though you exceeded the warranty coverage 👏 i just installed these about 200 miles ago and when I first saw the video thumbnail I had some serious concern but after seeing how long you had them on and the mileage I felt better about them and the icing on the cake how ARB handle it. I had a top control arm failure. The nut came lose & the suspension let loose & ripped a Buch of pipes off the engine on my 300 series on Stockton beach. I made it off the beach & into the dunes before it completely died. I had the vehicle recovered from the dunes & dropped off at my Sydney ARB dealer. They repaired the car including having everything checked by Toyota & paid the considerable recovery costs. I was a bit pissed that the thing failed but I cant fault ARB for their customer service in rectifying the problems. I have since had a base rack & rear bar fitted by ARB. I will continue to use them.

    I recently had almost identical problem but with Bilstein not ome. On a bt50 on the pdr up near Cape York. Was able to ratchet strap the strut straighter and ended up driving approx 650klms back to Atherton ( some corrugations some bitumen)
    Didn't have a broken cv though, just the abs / wheel speed sensor that I was able to solder back together and get back on the road.
    Had never heard of this happening before, and yet to reach out to manufacturer to see if they want feedback etc
    Great outcome from arb though!

    Had me going until you said 150k on them lol, totally a wear item at that point and was neglected till it failed absolutely. Especially with your self described flogging of the vehicle, I would be happy to get 150km on my Yotas shocks. Bilstein only says mine are good for 50,000 miles, I'm at 70 now and no noticeable difference. I wonder if the remote reservoir helped hide the main shock going bad and overheating/fatiguing quicker but the reservoir helped dappen the ride to the point it wasn't noticeable. Good knock on ARB for taking care of you regardless, great customer service in a time where that's hard to find.

    I had same failure back around 2018. 200 series front with less than 30k km. Wife was driving picking kids up from school (just started driving and went over speed bump near the school). We had just returned from 18k km trip around WA from east coast. Appeared to be too small of a radius where the shock shaft ends at the bottom. Local dealer who fitted the kit was excellent and replaced all 4 shocks with new ones. Disappointing to see from a premium product. I wonder how many others there are

    That was a great video. I have a 200 that had a front ARB BP51 spring collapse after only 1.5 years and about 20000 miles of mostly off-road abuse. ARB was not as quick to replace. It took about 3-4 emails and a phone conversation for them to finally replace them. I was a bit surprised at the push back being how new they were. Aside from that, I keep a spare CV with me, should I also carry a spare gasket kit? Thanks so much.

    You’re lucky getting them replaced by ARB. I’ve had a strut break on my hilux after 2 years. The strut didn’t have the stroke for the lift. (It bottomed the strut before it touched the bump stops) they basically told me to get lost. My parents snapped a front ARB strut on their 200 landcruiser and we didn’t bother. Both were lucky to not cause a crash. They break more often than you think. We live out of town and drive on dirt roads but it’s not exactly off road. It’s maintained rubble.

For sure, unradiused shoulders on heat treated components is never good, did the break look to show crystallisation ? G'day mate, great video. I am currently researching a 2" suspension lift with adjustable ride shock mainly to mitigate damage from corrugations as well as comfort and then adjust back to daily driver setting when back on bitumen. What were the reasons for choosing the BP51's, in terms of use case, shock type and brand? Thanks in advance for an information.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I loved the ride they deliver mate. I use the car mainly off road and it eats rough corrugations and the like up with ease. Believe it or not, the on road handling is much better than stock as well, it really is a great all around product. I do not change the settings for on and off road, just leave them where they are for both use cases. If I need extra weight carrying capacity like when I am fully loaded before a trip, I just pump up the air bags. That’s the reason I replaced them with the same again. Cheers👍😎

I'm about to replace some OME shockies (not as fancy as those) and am wondering if these are a good option for my 200. My other option is to replace like for like as I'm not unhappy with my current ones (they are just worn). As I watch the end of the video, I see that you purchased replacement of the same type. ARB were silent on the failure, just said they would replace them. I got a $2000 set of suspension for nix after mine did 150,000km at 7 1/2 years old. That is a sensational outcome, and pushing for the rears is just having a lend in my opinion. They exceeded my expectations, and that is all I can ask. The reason I did not have ARB install it is trust. I do not trust ARB or ANY OTHER WORKSHOP to work on my vehicle. I spend a lot of time off grid, in very remote locations where I rely on my vehicle to get me back out again. If something goes wrong because of an installation issue, it's on me and me alone. I know my work, I trust my work, and I back myself, plain and simple. Cheers.
