    Hope never to need to do this job on the side of an outback road as I won't have a rattle gun or a huge breaker bar or crowbar, tub of grease, spare seal, etc etc. Definitely one for when I am in the comfort of my driveway. 😀
    Nice job, thanks for sharing your tips and tricks!

    With the ratchety spanner, most models have a different colour or a groove in one side to indicate which side is which. Not as bad as a USB though - I usually get it wrong, flip it, realise I was right the first time, flip it again!! :) Welcome back home - enjoying your latest travel series. Thanks for the tip on changing the CV - might have to add one to the spares box. Makes more sense than being stuck in the bush. For a temp repair on a boot, I'd probably use the trusty duct tape until I got home.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m the same with the USB mate, get it wrong, flip it, realise I was right the first time😂. Good tip on the ratchet spanner. Mine actually have an arrow engraved on them indicating the direction and I still manage to get it wrong most times...maybe I should actually look at the arrow first before guessing🤔😂. Re the boot, I’m with you mate, duct tape for the win for a temporary repair😎👍

    Scrub bars make the job easier by the looks. I'll just have to use a floor jack when the time comes
    Good tech video mate

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Craig, if you don’t have scrubbies, I’m sure there is a spot under the bonnet somewhere that you could hook a strap. You will not have any problems completing the job with a floor jack mate, I’m just very fortunate to have a hoist after many decades of crawling around on the ground myself 😉😎

    Ops.. you are already back at home…. Damned time runs….
    Seems you didn’t changed the other side drive shaft… must have a good reason for it… I guess….
    Hope that drive shaft was made in Australia….and will last…
    Hope all well you both after the trip.
    Yes, it’s Saturday night, watching your vid …. Nice enjoyment after a 8 hours trip to Guangzhou city ..for business…

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the kind words Peter, I sincerely appreciate it. If I did not have scrub bars I am sure there would be some place secure in the engine bay that I could hook the ratchet strap to. Just pop open the bonnet and something will present itself. You can put a rag between the strap and the front guard to prevent it from marking the paint. Cheers😎👍

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I replaced the fronts when I did the lower control arms, not because they were acting up, only because I had the opportunity and I spend a lot of time in very remote areas. The rears have not been touched👍😎

  • @4bnewb969
    @4bnewb969 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Terri
    Thx for posting- I admire your ability to do these repairs.
    Based on the video’s title, the CV is the same for a LC200 and - 150 Prado?
    Is the CV the same for left and right? I am sure my old 1KD Hilux the L&R were different (and the hub nut was either 35 or 36mm?)
    Cheers

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The replacement procedure is roughly the same between the two vehicles, but the actual drive shafts are different between the Prado and the 200. On the 200, the left and right sides are the same, I’m not sure if that is the case with the Prado. Cheers😎👍

    those seals on cv joint at diff housing at $13.xx at supercheap (special order) or a bearing shop (usually in stock). different sizes left and right for some odd reason.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes indeed, left and right are different. I learned a long time ago that I will only use genuine for seals. Had bad experience with aftermarket and it’s a crap shoot, some are ok others are junk. For a few bucks not willing to take the risk. Go well mate😎

    I had to do this on my previous 2004 120 GXL Prado as both inner boots had split near the CV shaft end of the boot (narrowest part of the boots) i thought it odd that both sides went at the same time and i ended up re-using my existing genuine Toyota CV's and just swapping out the inner boots & fresh CV grease rather than buying a whole aftermarket pair of CV's complete.
    I sold that 04 model and upgraded to 2007 120 GXL Prado (with Harrop diff lockers) and after owning that a couple of years just noticed the inner CV boots on that have have also split in the same place as the previous 04 model. It is weird that the inner boots are going vs the outer boots which are flexing more due to the steering articulation
    Yes i use my Milwaukee high torque rattle gun which gets those big nuts off with ease just like your air-driven rattle gun

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just carry the spare CV when I’m traveling mate and will reuse the seals.
      The two outer seals that go into the back of the hub are the same left to right, the seals in the ends of the diff are different side to side. The part number for the left side is in the video, the part number for the right side will be in an upcoming video (I do not have it to hand now). Cheers👍😎
