I think this challenge format is nice since it showcases your real personality a whole lot more. Feeling like an actual person rather than a character is always a plus in my book.

in the og game, mini mushrooms are pretty much the second worst mushrooms in the entire franchise, being only ahead of the poison mushroom from SMB2 JP

Nah, while mini mushrooms are weak they are good for jumping higher and running on water.
@@doozy5184 which was used entirely for gimmick sections just to get a star coin
The purple fish are probably disappearing, because of the enemy behavior. The purple fish are supposed to lock onto Mario, but the water has caused them to glitch out of existence. They don't disappear until you're near them.
My thoughts too
Yeah, more specificallybecause they have special behavior out of water. When ambient, the devs likely assumed they'll always place them in the water so there no need to check, but when targeting they're supposed to jump out and then fall. Because of that last part, I'm guessing either a) they're teleported downward to the water surface (in this case that likely means somewhere below the screen), b) they try to (literally in a try block), but because there's no water they have an exception that simply deletes them, or c) (most likely imo) their velocity isn't properly set unless they're actually in the water (once they leave the water they can't control themselves, physics takes over so the only things happening to their velocity is `+= [0, -g/dt]`) so they fly away at the speed of light.

I like the fact that you can use the level editors to manually take out the water! I like to see more of these videos (examples: no item boxes, more enemies, shorter time limit, etc)

The purple fish disappear when they see you because part of their AI is not going out of the water, so when there's no water they just die as an error.

Also, I think the reason why the spike fish keep disappearing is that the behavior for when they cause only works underwater.
That jump at 5:20 is better than any kaizo trick you have ever seen.

1:47 it is possible but it requires really precise wall jumps with the mini mushroom and if done right the mini mushroom will allow you to get a jump in mid air which is enough to get you over the wall
I tried it out to test for myself and I found that ground pounding the slanted part of the floor at the far right, wall jumping off the back wall will get you about halfway up the right wall, then if done right you'll jump instead of wall jumping and clear the wall

I love how the fish continues to swim in oxygen despite zero water molecules in there.
It is quite humorous to see the species known as Cheep Cheep and their many genus, interact with the Oxygen in the area as if it were H2O. Completely disregarding the widely known fact that one simply cannot just swim in air. Not only is it quite improbable, but fish are also not adapted to move through the air, since it is less dense and when they jump out of the water, they cannot stay up in air for long.
5:20 this is one of the craziest plays I've ever seen in Super Mario Bros
The 8-4 pipe is possible in multiplayer if either player is small and holds the Light Block, to act like a 2-block high platform

In wii, the spiny cheep cheeps’ chase state might rely on the presence of water to work, which’d explain why they disappear when you get close

@@leahluostarinen I think they're fine, water is slow sure, but the difficulty reminds me of stuff like shump levels, which I enjoy. Dodging enemies in video games is fun for me personally and water levels tend to deliver that. Are they better than normal levels? Nah, but I don't hate them

I’ve always gotten the 2A secret exit from bouncing off the koopa at the end while in that slow falling mode

The two types of levels every platformer hates (water & ice), and Penguin Suit handles both like a champ! Like seriously, who wouldn't love this thing? It's not only the perfect terrain master, but powerful, too!

I think the reason why the purple fish disappear is because they're supposed to chase Mario but the Code to make that work dosen't work when above water.
I personally prefer the challenge videos to be like this instead of them being scripted professionally.
I saw this video in my recommendations and I was like "what, I don't know this, is this new???" and lo and behold, it _is_ a new one! My day/evening is saved!

Wow I really forgot how nostalgic New Super Mario bros is. When I was a child I thought it was a lot less pixelated than what it actually is. My sibling still has that game I believe. They also have a lot of really weird third party games that came with the DS as it also has a slot for Gameboy advanced games.
It’s because the DS’s screen is small so the pixels aren’t that noticeable

2:24 to get into the secret exit do what you did at 2:15 and just land on the koopa it will give you some height and you will get into the area with the yellow pipe.

2-3 is actually possible with the mini mushroom. By getting a pixel-frame perfect jump off of the wall in the room you got stuck in you can hop up to the ledge to get to the next section. I can try and get footage if you want or if you don’t understand this explanation. But 2-3 is possible as mini mario.

8-2 in nsmb ds is also possible using this same technique but because of how many jumps it is it might be TAS only. 2-3 is at least humanly possible

This is why water is important for these levels, especially underwater ones. It can break your fall and serve as great floatation, as shown in World 2-3 in New Super Mario Bros DS.
