I've been wanting to make my own pair of leather boots and haven't found anything as comprehensive as this for shoe making - thank you so much!

    Love the inset alternate view.

This is so insanely helpful! I've been trying to find how to take measurements and how to make a pattern for boots specifically because I wasn't sure how to do the leg part since I'm planning on making my own knee high leather boots by hand. I really appreciate the explanation! ^w^

I stumbled upon this via trying to find help on how to do this so I'm going to go look at your boots playlist now!

Thank you! This is very helpful. You speak very clearly and do your measuring demonstrations at a slow enough pace (but not too slow) to keep up with. I like how you explain what the measurements are for. You don't waste too much time before getting to the meat of the video but you do explain the purpose of the video.
I do have a question: When taking measurements for the calf, what is the best way to hold the leg? (I couldn't quite tell if your model was standing with legs equidistant apart or if she was relaxing her leg). I have thick calf muscles and have never found boots that fit comfortably.
If I wanted to have mid-calf boots but still have a little bit of slack (not for a cuff, but so I can have a slightly loose fit for muscle movement but be able to tighten down with straps) would I still do a J measurement with some sort of plus? I guess I"m asking how much slack should be allowed in measurement for circumference where I want things to be a tad looser.
For measuring orthotics, would it be better to cut the orthotic down to size before measuring? Or should that wait to see how it fits in a shoe/boot?
Also, what if I am making my own boot and want to re-use the sole from an existing shoe/slipper?

Thank you for your great video, it was very informative for me. I have a question please, if I want to develop a pattern for horse riding long boots and give them to my shoe maker to customize a boot for me, what would be the way to draw this model?
