It's because any weapon with over a 1/2 inch bore diameter without a sporting purpose is considered a destructive device.Most shotgun pistols are chambered in .410 shotgun shells. Which Are .454 which is under half inch. 12 gauge is .720 which is way over half inch.
For those searching the comments, the Shockwave is listed as a pistol grip firearm because it doesn't fall into the other categories (Shotgun, pistol) that it absolutely should from first glance. It's a smoothbore and over 26" so not a pistol, but at the same time it was designed not to be shouldered, so not a shotgun, per ATF categories.
The irony being if you sawed the barrel and stock off a normal shotgun to look like the Shockwave, well, you just committed a felony.

That's not possible the recoil would push the shotgun back and to rack the next round you have to pull the pump the same way and you can't fire it when the pump is pulled in to you so there is no way for recoil to rack a round

The Shockwave is lawful. You can’t alter it( putting a shoulder stock or pistol grip on) but as sold the firearm is federally legal.
The factories, Mossberg and Remington, went DEEP into the legalities of producing these.

Ok you got your legal specs off. The overall length to be a legal NON-NFA shotgun is 26 inches NOT 27 inches like you said it was. Barrels no less than 18 inches overall no shorter than 26 inches. And yes with rifles overall length is also 26 inches, but barrell only has to be 16 inches.

Eh, it just needs to be reformed to make sense in the 21st century. But other stuff I think is fine, like requiring tax stamps for each individual grenade you want to purchase. I'd really not want grenades easily accessible.

It is legal in most States what most people have to remember is you have to leave it exactly the way it is you cannot customize it you cannot change the stock or the barrel the way it comes is the way you get it besides maybe an optical or a site or something that may be clamps on but can be removed but you cannot alter the length of this in any way

Hello Matt! I turned 18 this monday and as a birthday gift im gonna go and shoot some pistols, they include a Glock (of some sort, doesnt say), Hämmerli X-esse, Ruger GP100 and HK USP 45 ACP. As well as a .357 and .44 magnum. Any tips for the magnums? As im from sweden this is really hard to pull off but the parents managed to do it. I plan to join the military as a naval weapon technican so when im done ill join the demolitia!

#1 always assume the gun is loaded, #2 never point the gun at something you don't want destroyed, #3 keep your finger off the trigger until your ready to fire, #4 always be aware of your surroundings/backstop. follow these rules and you and everyone else should be OK.
Shockwave style with the dove tail grip is legal due to the overall length. Those that buy the shockwave and decide that they don't like the dovetail grip and replace it with a pistol grip or a butt stock will at that point be in felony possession of a short barrel shotgun.
