Mexico can be a cheap country to vacation (Or very luxury in some places) but it's not that cheap to live in and actually have a house, cars, kids etc... Especially with the actual salaries...

What I know from my Mexican friends is that for them is expensive is because the wage is very low. When we go with dollars and change it to pesos it is a lot of money.

I'm from Mexico City and its expensive depending on the lifestyle you (want to) have. Also going to cancun and playa del Carmen is expensive if you go more like as a tourist, but we could use hostels or some place cheaper too :)

They do a great job! I lived in MX for three years on the beach and I had a washer and dryer and still had those nice ladies do my laundry b/c the power bills were so high!
I want you guys to come to Morelia, Michoacán so bad!! The Centro Histórico is absolutamente increíble. I am lucky enough to go every summer (I take music classes here at el conservatorio de las rosas, which is also open to tourists during the day). I think you guys would love it here!

I work at a laundromat in Florida and we do it the same way. Price it by the weight. And yes I would assume you would give a tip since we take tips at my job.

I stayed in Mexico with my aunts and uncles for 2 months and I loved it, I didn't want to come back. The only bad part is that there was lots of gangs and crooked soldiers but if you don't mess with them they don't mess with you.

There's the exact same method of washing your clothes in the US. Many laundromats offer a drop-off service. Nothing new here.
I wouldn't call Mexico cheap. Cheap implies lower quality. Mexico can be affordable though.
12 pesos " so cheap", y ahorra... the prices go up!
