Actually it is common practice to bargain, typically the dealer will offer a too high starting price and you negotiate it down. The locals do this all the time, you’ll get swindled if you don’t try to negotiate :)

So after living in Morocco for a year... I do not go to the Medinas often at all. My husband and I do not have the patience to barter especially when the award-winning actors come out haha! We love getting into arguments about price changes in French. It's so entertaining. My favorite thing is when shop owners pull the American card to try and make us spend more money and we are always like "but we live here and we actually know how much this cost... and I still don't have the money even after you changed the price becasue it's too much!". Anyways, I love your videos.

The rings were faaaaar tooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive! I'm moroccan by the way...and loooooooooooooooooove silver jewelry, so I buy a lot of it, and I can tell you that you got scammed (which actually happens a lot to tourists).
If you're coming to Morocco and want to buy silver jewelry, do it in Agadir or Tiznite, and even there make sure to ask for the price of the gram of silver, because it is sold by gram. I'm not saying it is not expensive, it is a little, but not that expensive. Be careful!!!
Oh and another thing! That was not a magazine rack, it's meant to hold napkins! Sorry to disapoint you!!! it still looks good though!

I personally don't always want to hear the wonderful things that happen, I want to hear about the touchy subjects most travel youtubers won't talk about. I'm soooooooooooo glad you left in the not so positive experiences with bartering. I don't think people realize alot of those tourist items you think are locally-made are actually products shipped from a factory overseas. It's important to know what you are actually paying for and don't be afraid to walk away :)

Actually everything silver and real leather is locally made, the ones who are not usually the ones who have plastic in them they are shipped from china lmao, im moroccan btw

    • @freewal

It really depends of the object. Real moroccan handcraft is the work of gold, wood, silver, skins (leather), zellig (mosaics), carpets, ...
      Other things come from China.

in Morocco we call it just Atay which means tea (absinthe tea / mint tea / pennyroyal mint tea..) , Berber tea(maybe a commercial name) but it means a different thing ,its a mix of aromatic plants tea ,its an old version of tea still exist in some region ,my family still prepare it ,we call it Atay Laachub.

Well, even Moroccan tea isn't it's actual name. The tea is traditional to the Maghreb region (Morocco, Algerian, Tunisia, Mauritania and Lybia) and the locals call it Tay, Atay or Latay. You can call it Berber tea since North Africa is genetically and culturally Berber !

He want 600 dirham (£60-$60 ish) for a beach bag. Got him down to 400 but snatched the money from and he wanted more and tried taking to an ATM for more. In the end i snatched my money back. walked away and he chased me asking for 200. Got it in the end but it just ruined our experience. Still a great holiday though
