    Shank prakshalan’ -The word ‘laghu’ means small,shankh’ means ‘conch’ and ‘prakshalana’ means ‘to wash completely’ (This process replicates the sea washing a conch). It’s a process of cleansing the entire alimentary canal from mouth to anus.
    Why try it, and how does it work?
    As you know the intestines are very long with many turns, it’s easy for small pieces of food to get stuck or even dried on. Stuck for an extended time, it will start to rot and become toxic to your body. Laghu Shankh Prakshalan is done to remove this ‘ama'(toxins) from your intestines and for other benefits.
    By using salt water having concentration of salt more than that of your body, water will be ‘sucked’ out from the kidneys into the digestive tract to balance the level (by the process of osmosis). This flushes the system completely. The concentration of the salt is very important because if it is not enough, then there is a chance that salt will get absorbed, increasing your blood pressure, and/or leave you with extra salt in the body.
    You might feel a little weak initially so this should be done when you have a free day, you will regain strength after a few hours. Things that can help after the cleaning is done, having pro-biotic drink to help the ‘good bacteria’ return as they might have been affected by the salt water. Stay hydrated and eat simple food throughout the day.
    Before You Start
    Make sure you have access to toilet facilities
    We have mentioned a preparation of 2 litres (6-8 glasses) of water, some people can manage more than this, some people less. It is quite difficult to drink but try to finish at least 1.5 litres for the process to work properly.
    Do the practice first thing in the morning BEFORE ANY FOOD OR DRINK (yes that includes you coffee lovers)
    Wait at least 30 minutes after the practice before eating. You should eat something un-spiced and easy to digest. Traditionally this would be ‘khicdi’ made from basmati rice and mung dal with a little turmeric and some ghee. But anything like plain porridge would be fine (depending on what is available where you live).

    Thanks for posting this informative video in very simple and easy to understand language. I think it is important to share the experience so that others can benefit from , if there are into similar situation. When I saw the video sometime back, I decided to do it. Then I realised that I am not even able to the asanas siggested, in one stretch. Daily I practised the asanas ( startng with first 2 on day one) and by 3'4 weeks I could do the complete set in the same sequence. I was doing it for in 10-15 mins and 10-15 repeatation of each aasan. Then I read some more material on the subject and read that this cleansing can be done twice in a year and preferably in when climate is moderate. So I waited for September and choose to do it on a holiday. I used 8 cups of water (300 ml cup) after consuming 2 cups of water started the practice. I used water mixed with lemon and rock salt. Before I could complete 3 set of exercise, i had strong urge and a good normal motion. There after I stopped (both drinking water and excercise). Wirhin a span of next one hour i had -6- motions, fully water i drank. All the motions were completely watery. It felt like a complete washout from inside. I must say that, I was unusually pleasnt during the whole day. I observe fast (with nearly 100-200 gms) fruits and raw vegetables. Overall it was a good experience and plan to do again in right season. I once again thank you.

    no doubt your presentation is spotless nd explanation is nice too with sweet voice like koyal. i am a regular practioner of pranayam n yogasans since several years but not happy with my upset stomach. never felt happy too . i was aware of shankh prakshalan but never performed due to several precautionary steps to follow therefire, not grabbed suitable opportunity .though this information was uploaded on april 28 but cud see on aug 31 .after two days sincere study watching video observations today i peformed laghu shankh prakshalan . result is more or less good. cant say excellent . during second round of exercise i realised little pressure which did not increase more so used toilet to pass stool . though with little pressure stool came out like pumping which is rare n positive sign for me. but later felt some heaviness in stomach n need to go thriice again wirh loose motion but still stomach is in bloating like symptom.may be i might hv not performed exercise properly . will surely makeup where was the mistake . what you have presented is a symptom of noble cause . pl keep it up . my best wishes for grand success in this respect . same time wish that general public should keep n pay health awareness. god bless you . will join again after second attempt with positive n favorable result .

    Shaheeda ji, itna salt khana sehat ke liye achha nahi hai.. BP barh jayega.. Kidney bhi damage ka chance rahta hai.. Heart prblm bhi... Din bhar mein hume 5gram se jyata salt nahi khana chahiye.. Otherwise bahut hi achha samjhaya apne.. Bahut hi achha explain kiya. Thank you.

    Hello mam, first of all great kriya...but I have a confusion.If anyone feels pressure even after 2 sets, should he go to toilet,or control his pressure for rest of sets?? If your answer would be yes for going to toilet, then is there still need of completing the remaining sets.

    1. Is it kichdi as all 3 meals for that day?
    2. Can we add salt to the kichdi??
    3. From the day after the laghoo shankha prakshalana, shall we start our routine diet?
    4. I am a non vegetarian. When can I start eating non veg after this process?
    5. Shall we have dairy products like milk and curd from the next day of shankha prakshalana??
