I think the only reason he didn't do an intro and explain what an iceberg is is because this is part of a longer series, meant to be watched sequentially. Obviously you don't want the concept of an iceberg to be explained literally every time someone tunes back into the next part, so he just skips the crap because "hey you know what's going down already"
You may be the only dude I’ve ever seen dumb enough to NOT watch the other 2 parts for an explanation of what an iceberg is and then expect him to explain it a 3rd time when anybody who doesn’t know can revisit last 2 or look it up. Thank you for a slight smirk at your senseless and dumb comment.
@@RipRLeeErmeyThat's true but there really are a lot of iceberg videos where they basically say "let's not waste time explaining what an iceberg is" and then they literally do that.
The Ocean Gate disaster happened so fast that their brains didn't even have time to get the signals of distress their nerves would have sent before they were instantaneously liquefied. That's how powerful the pressure that far down. No one would survive that and that's the scariest part. Less time than the nanoseconds your brain and nerves talk to each other, you're just gone.
18:14 "It's basically Jaws, except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws, so the guys have to team up with Jaws to get bigger Jaws. I call it Big Jaws."
His humor is very funny. The edits are also great but his dry, sometimes subtle, way of saying funny and unhinged shit without acknowledging it afterward is great.
A terrifying fact about rogue waves is that the main reason why they seemed to be rare and remained a mystery up until the Draupner footage is that most people who encountered one just didn't survive, so not only them but also actual witness reports of rogue waves never made it back on land. Thinking about how many ships "just disappeared", the Bermuda triangles of the world and many people unknowingly going out on the same seas for centuries where others had been crushed by those waves and thus leaving no chance for others to avoid certain waters is so crazy to think about. Really a cycle of nightmares, that also kinda asks to be applied for maybe other "urban legends" that may only be deemed as such bc their witnesses didn't make it.
thats the dangerous thing about survivor bias the most famous example of survivorship bias dates back to World War Two. At the time, the American military asked mathematician Abraham Wald to study how best to protect airplanes from being shot down. The military knew armour would help, but couldn’t protect the whole plane or would be too heavy to fly well. Initially, their plan had been to examine the planes returning from combat, see where they were hit the worst - the wings, around the tail gunner and down the centre of the body - and then reinforce those areas. But Wald realised they had fallen prey to survivorship bias, because their analysis was missing a valuable part of the picture: the planes that were hit but that hadn’t made it back. As a result, the military were planning to armour precisely the wrong parts of the planes. The bullet holes they were looking at actually indicated the areas a plane could be hit and keep flying - exactly the areas that didn't need reinforcing.
14:00 another layer of spookiness to this entry is the fact that they were just a myth for a long time before finally being validated at that oil rig, and this is likely because throughout history whoever encountered one of these behemoths would more than likely not make it out to tell the tale.
Praya Dubia has always interested me because I played this game called Endless Ocean which has a Praya Dubia in it and it told me the creature was longer than the Blue Whale which blew my mind since I always knew that Blue Whale to be the biggest animal. Crazy that a bunch of game devs would even include a creature as obscure as it in their game. The game itself also had a Ghost Ship you could dive to the wreckage of and discover a mythical Shark.

For the Corkscrew Seal Killings, my (obviously uninformed and outlandish) theory is that there could be like some other massive seal out there cannibalising regular adult seals - the cannibalised Corkscrew patterns were only found on pups, so if you imagine a seal big enough that regular sized seals are comparatively small, that would also explain why this only started happening in the past 27 years..
