    After being much requested, I’m excited at last to release the feature-length, uncut ‘Deep Sea Midwater’ film, combining my Twilight Zone and Midnight Zone films into one continuous, immersive, relaxing adventure beginning at the ocean surface and descending right down to 4,000 metres! Through the twilit gloom we encounter silver cutlassfish shimmering in our headlights, and deeper down, snake-like gulper eels, anglers, and starving mother squid tending to their young in a world without any solid shelter!
    This combined film marks 2 years of work and is how I originally intended to release these projects, but I had to initially split them up as they were taking much more time (and turning out far more in-depth) than expected. So, here is ‘Wonders of the Deep Sea Void’ as it was always meant to be, filmed by the brilliant Schmidt Ocean Institute!
    To bring everything up to quality, I’ve completely re-recorded the voice-over for the Twilight Zone with a newer far superior microphone, introduced some new music, and some brand new footage. I really hope you enjoy, even if you’ve seen both episodes before! It’s a long one (and I know many of you like to sleep to my films), so settle down, perhaps tuck yourself in, relax, and prepare to descend into the deep ocean!
    Episode 3 in the ‘Worlds of the Deep’ series, The Deep Sea Floor, is still in production, along with another science-oriented film about the unexplored Deep Sea off the coast of Chile, where unseen geology has crafted an unusual set of hollows supporting life thriving in near-total isolation - featuring brand new species and 4K unreleased deep sea footage filmed just this year!!

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  หลายเดือนก่อน +186

      That makes me very happy! You’d be surprised how many comments I’ve had asking if this footage is real! The recent blow that prompted me to add the disclaimer was when an Instagram page started cloning my voice identically and creating videos where ‘I’ would narrate over generated videos of grotesque, monstrous sci-fi ‘deep sea aliens’, and yet many commenters on that page thought (1) the voice was actually me, and (2) thought the footage was of real organisms!! With the media landscape changing so quickly towards one where AI is everywhere and we can’t always believe what we see, I wanted to add that level of authenticity from the start to hit home just home unbelievably beautiful the *real* wonders in our oceans are, without any need for embellishment, let alone fake copies! I can’t stand AI being used in science communication! I’m glad you noticed and appreciated the statement :)

    • @iribiss4155
      @iribiss4155 หลายเดือนก่อน +48

      I fully agree with the AI sentiment, it may just rob the world wide web of it's real life magic I am afraid. Artificial works (in my opinion), especially low effort rip offs, may hit the algorythm just right on IG - but I doubt a copy of an original can ever be better than what it tries to wrongly profit off of. Must be such a weird thing to have to be cautious about as a creator though - especially if viewers tend to be unable to recognise that it's not content you would put out, even if the sound of your voice might seem identical.

      @@NaturalWorldFactsthe best way is to talk naturally with intonation variation that ai simply cant replicate as its not predictive. (All ai works based on predictive/learning software programs) so if you start sounding different on intonation/emotionally involved in the subject it become really hard for ai to code you down ;). Basically if you do an "act" or "controlled" voice or way of speaking you make it easy for ai to replicate ya. Same with writing patterns or whatnot. Be unpredicted in predictivity. Be smarter than the machine..all those software after all are made by humans who wasted their lifes in front of screens.

    throughout the entire program i thought to myself "he sounds so young" and then you cane on screen and you look like a teenager. i have no idea how you have become so good at this at such a young age but as a fellow science communicator (long form text, mostly in hebrew) let me tell you that this is some of the finest I've ever come across. Your soft-spoken voice is great too, but mostly, your writing is absolutely wonderful and the storytelling is sublime (very reminscent of prof. Ketering of "@cool worlds lab", which is high praise, as he is my favorite. you both also talk almost exactly the same way). The way you've built the story itself is perfect. The editing, also, is top-notch. How old are you, if i may ask?

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Thank you so much as always!! 😁🥰 Yes, this one is the ‘directors cut’ so to speak! Those two videos were always meant to be one continuous midwater film, but I had to split them up as they each became their own enormous undertakings (in other words, I kept getting carried away and adding in new sections, species, research etc). So I figured as a little Christmas bonus, I’d put out the version I originally set out to create, where (I hope) the distinct concepts and behaviours prevalent between the two zones stand out far more. Light defines these habitats, and the difference between ‘almost no light’ and ‘no sunlight at all’ has ENORMOUS implications on survival!!
      Being side by side, I’m hoping it makes it easier to see how from Twilight to Midnight we go from bright, silvery fish reflecting loads of light to blend in with the ‘low light’, to dark ultra-black fish reflecting almost no light in order to blend in with the ‘pitch black’.
      Similarly, we go from energetic, active organisms taking advantage of the organic waste near the surface, to slow, lethargic ones, conserving as much energy as possible in wait of their next tiny morsel.
      It’s these stark comparisons that I find absolutely incredible!!! 😁😁 Got carried away a bit while typing this out haha, sorry!

    Oh Leo, I was unwell for a time and somehow your channel went missing on my threads, (because, you know, TH-cam) yet here finally find you again after months and months and I am delighted, and with a full length feature film no less! I am so glad to again be able to watch your relaxing videos and to once again hear your soothing, elegant voice.
    And here I am, as always, thunderstruck by your skill as a documentarian. Your visual imagery so exotic and enchanting; your voice is as smooth as honey; I could watch you for days and stay just as engaged as I was in the first five minutes.
    I am only a few minutes in but I had to write you this little note; you have gotten even more wonderful if such a thing is possible. The images you show us are as rich and vibrant as ever. Here I am, at war with my body because your voice lulls me to the point of dreamy sleep, but the spectacle of your presentation keeps my mind as alert as if I have just awakened from a full night of restful slumber.
    I'm so happy to have your channel back!
    Kori,
    Seattle, WA

    this is what it used to feel like to see a movie i’d been excited for in theaters as a kid! so excited leo thank you! as always you’ve produced an AMAZING film, genuinely my favorite nature documentaries. i actually like your videos more than blue planet, etc bc i love your narration, writing and the style of editing/sound/production, i love that they are “low drama” with gentle music while still being super interesting and engaging. i’m neurodivergent so sometimes i need low-sensory-input media that isnt hitting my ears with cymbals and sound effects! i appreciate details like labeling the animals onscreen, and i feel you go into more detail on the biology/ecology, and provide new info and feature animals i’ve never heard of! i come away with your videos feeling like i gained a deeper understanding of the topic at hand instead of just learning random animal facts. that’s all due to your amazing writing and ability to teach! it’s amazing you do the writing, narrating, editing, sound design etc all yourself, truly professional quality! i hope you’re doing well and uni is going ok! please take care of yourself, you’re doing incredible things! as usual i’m incapable of writing concise comments lol

    I watched this, totally absorbed for an hour and had to check the production credits, so surprised that this was, not only not a BBC (or similar) production but also the work of one person! The music, text, narration, and, of course, the images, are the best I have ever seen. I'm now going to rewind and watch it again after this comment. Subscribed.
