After seeing "Conclave' 3 times, I do not feel that it is bashing Roman Catholicism. It does expose behaviors & attitudes that are anathema to a deep faith in Christ by those in all denominations. When viewed in this manner, "Conclave" has the potential to make those seeking to be 'faithful' more authentic.
Wow! Three times! You're absolutely right that there is hypocrisy in every religion by its members because no one is perfect. The ability to repent and be forgiven is what gives us all hope. I agree that the film's authenticity gives it so much more strength. Thank you so much for your comments! By the way, are you Catholic?
@@MovieReviewMom Although not a Roman Catholic, I toured the Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel when in Rome. Also, I took an English-speaking guide's tour of St. Peters. I attended 3 screenings to learn more. I wish to have the faith and actions of the man chosen to be the Pope.
The movie was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. I loved the movie the two Popes, brilliant. I think that the movie showed that we’re all flawed and these days and times they can be factions not only in our political system, but in our religious system, I loved the ending to the movie. I have been taking courses in religious studies and we have been talking about the merging of the divine masculine and feminine. This movie was a great example and electing a pope that was both male and female (predominantly female) is wonderful
@@MovieReviewMom My stock answer is usually CASABLANCA. It's probably the movie I've seen the most and there's always something new to discover in the characters' motivations. However, at a party last Summer, someone asked, "What movie would you like to see again?" Without missing a beat, I said SECRETS & LIES (by Mike Leigh). I got my wish a few weeks ago and found it just as moving and entertaining as previous. So, what movie would you like to see again?
Timing on this review was amazing. We saw it yesterday and I was just now looking for your take. As usual, I find myself in agreement. The ending left both my wife and I conflicted. I don’t expect to find out if the author of the book and producers of the film were going “woke” or just trying to be thought provoking. Either motive or both could be at play. Saying more would risk spoilers. The film is amazing to watch and brilliant in casting. Lesser actors could never pull it off. Oscar bait? Oh yeah! I was impressed with portrayal of people in high and powerful status who have human weakness. There’s a saying in the culture I swim in which is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “Catholics believe the Pope is infallible, but treat him as if he isn’t.” “LDS people believe their leaders are fallible but treat them as if they aren’t.”
I was really worried the movie would bash Catholics. There is a little bit of that but I found more good than bad. The way the film ended was handled in a sweet way instead of implanting a woke agenda. I loved the message that God has a purpose in creating us and our weaknesses. I chose to view the ending as insightful and reflective. I'm so glad you enjoyed the movie! You probably already know that I'm LDS too, right?!
Hadn't read the book, but just watched this tonight and that one big moment in the film had us and half the theater going "woah..." out loud all at once (I guess the others read the book). Overall, We saw it as more thought provoking than anything. I felt the writing did well to convey the sins and flaws of mortal man and not as a slight on the Church which was nice.
@@johnny861 I hadn't read the book either. My husband had heard about the ending and told me about it, so I was curious how the audience I sat with would react. I'm so glad the film's goal isn't about making Catholics look bad. I hate it when films bash any religion.
Ralph Fiennes is pretty good actor. I have been watching him sometimes. I dont think I saw his last movie when he was a chef or something. However I have watch his James Bond movies.

The term woke usually determines at this time, a political affiliation. We could use other terms as this statement or action maybe provoking for many people. As a reviewer, we don’t have to determine what the outcome of a statement or action is we can leave that up to the viewer
Some of the conversations might imply otherwise, but we don't see inappropriate content displayed if you know what I mean. Have you seen the movie yet?

Stellar performances by the entire cast!
I heard the movie bashed Catholics, but I actually found a lot of good in this film.
Yet another one bashing Catholics. No worries, I m not one but a Christian. It’s really bad to be a Catholic in the US

Thanks for your comments and insights! Agreed! Do you think this will win Best Picture?
A review and perspective that matches my own. Thanks for pointing out the strengths and (minimal) weaknesses of the film.

I am surprised the movie is PG.
The trailers and commercials make the film seem like the movie is PG-13 or possibly R. 🤷
