I think that sincere religious people of every tradition always show those same traits. I have travelled around the world twice and always found it to be so wherever I went. The Holy has many names and those of us who love and are devoted to it seem to be changed in the same ways. We are a great family of lovers of the Holy.

It brought memories of the first time I heard the mass in English! I guess I was nearly ready for my confirmation. Journal of a Soul Pope John XXIII was published in 1980. I only guess my godmother gave it to me, I can’t remember. She was Mae and a devout Christian. When I think of the impact the changes this pope made not only for Catholics like myself it is a reaffirmation of my love for my family. I kept this book at my bedside off and on for this past twenty years. I moved many times pack and unpacked it. I would just dust it off and start again to read of his everyday life. Now , suddenly , today after millions of internet search’s I deliberately “googled” his holiness. This movie was so moving. I will pass it along to my friends. Thank you for posting it.

When John XXIII was later elevated to the College of Cardinals, he insisted upon receiving the red hat from the atheist and notoriously anti-clerical socialist Vincent Auriol, President of the country of France, whom he had described as “an honest socialist.” He knelt before him.
“No one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist.”
      - Pope Pius XI, Quadragesimo Anno, No. 120, May 15, 1931

    • @johncronin9540

@@John-jf8lw I honestly don’t know what John XXIII’s politics was, except he wanted peace and reconciliation. You have to understand just how deeply divided France was during WWII, especially under Nazi occupation, with many openly collaborating with the Nazi occupiers.
John XXIII was sent there after the war as papal nuncio (the diplomatic equivalent of an ambassador), and he was trying, in that capacity, to bring about a reconciliation, including that between the political left and right (that would be participants in the Vichy French collaborationist regime). In this, John XXIII was quite adept, in part because of who he was.
That’s likely the reason why he asked the president to place his cardinal’s hat. The ceremony was likely not a replacement for the consistory with Pope Pius XII, and I doubt that John did what he did without Pius’ knowledge and permission.
A diplomatic gesture of this kind hardly means that John was a socialist or atheist. It is a sign of John’s desire to bring people-ALL people, together, despite disagreements. He also attempted, as pope, to try to bring about improvements of relations with the Soviet Union, and to find ways in which two very different worlds (the free world and the Communist world) to coexist in peace.
Bear in mind that the two sides came perilously close to a Third World War, which would have been calamitous, possibly leading to human extinction. Certainly President Kennedy, who never got to meet John XXIII, shared similar views after the showdowns over Berlin and Cuba, and Kennedy stated as much in his famous speech at American University in June of 1963, the same month in which John XXIII died.
I doubt that John was inspired by Marx, or Khrushchev, but rather by Jesus’ teaching about loving one’s enemies.

    • @John-jf8lw
      @John-jf8lw ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@johncronin9540 Fair point, but John XXIII started the revolution of the "modernist" Catholic teaching that was carried out by Paul VI. Yes, it sounds nice that we should "love one another" or respect each other's religion and so forth, but like it or not, that's NOT Catholic teaching. Jesus wanted to establish one, universal Church - not "churches." The fact that John XXIII and all of these other "popes" since then have preached respect for all religions (including the "religion" of Marxism) is deeply disturbing since that's exactly what previous Popes preached against prior to the 1960s. All I'm saying is, don't be fooled by Roncalli's folksy, ah-shucks, self-deprecating appearance. St. Paul condemned people for not believing in Christ. The fact that one of Roncalli's first statements was to NOT condemn other "faiths" and the fact that he didn't denounce Marxism like previous popes did (particularly Pope Leo XIII) because he didn't want to "offend" someone is alarming.
Think about Our Lady of Fatima. What was her message? She urged the Pope to consecrate Russia. Why? Are you going to tell me that Marxism, which became Communism, didn't have something to do with it? Do you think it was just a coincidence that the Bolshevik Revolution, which allowed an atheist dictator to spread this radical "religion' of Marxist-Leninism, happened to occur that same year?
Sadly Pope Pius XII didn't do it until 1952 when communism grew immensely and spread to other countries - particularly China. So again, to read that John XXIII didn't condemn this evil "religion" and instead, gave it the benefit of the doubt, should make your stomach turn.
But, it's your choice. You believe what you want.

“As we have seen, Muhammad had neither supernatural miracles nor natural motives of reason to persuade those of his sect. As he lacked in everything, he took to bestial and barbaric means, which is the force of arms. Thus, he introduced and promulgated his message with robberies, murders and blood shedding, destroying those who did not want to receive it and with the same means, his ministers conserve this today, until God placates His anger and destroys this pestilence from the earth.”

I only knew about Pope St. John XXIII this year. I really admire him. I love how he was very humorous, humble and holy. You could see the actual video where he received the Shah of Persia and he didnt look sick or weak at all. He was talking and laughing with the Shah and meeting many people. Despite his old age, he still was welcoming and gave his best to do his Job. It’s sad that even today, a lot of traditional catholics don’t like him since he was the one who started Vat. II. They blame everything on Vat II. But I think he got use to people opposing him. Also, because of Vat. II, there are many catholic converts in Asia and Africa, although I can’t say the same for Catholic converts in the US. Still, Pope John XXIII, was a sincere Pope. He tried his best. He really is The Good Pope. St. John XXIII, please pray for us. 🙏💜🙏

Ireen Zee well said Irene. No one but Jesus is perfect. Sadly too many Catholics and non Catholics think Popes should be perfect because they are considered 'Infallible'. Because they don't understand what that means. The Pope is the the Spiritual leader for Catholics world-wide, because the Vatican is considered a country within a country, the Pope is the Leader of a country. When I read St. John XXIII's biography and watch the movies, he thinks very carefully about his decisions. He truly was an Ecumenical Pope. He truly was the Good Pope.

@@chriswheeler1947 Indeed. You could tell that his intentions were good and God knows. St. John XXIII knew there will be criticisms so he never let that bother him. Some people are angry why he didn’t reveal the third secret of Fatima and called it disobeyance to the Blessed Mother. He has his reasons I’m sure and again God knows this. When John XXIII was later “elevated” to the College of Cardinals, he insisted upon receiving the red hat from the atheist and notoriously anti-clerical socialist Vincent Auriol, President of the country of France, whom he had described as "an honest socialist."
“You are aware indeed, that the goal of this most iniquitous plot is to drive people to overthrow the entire order of human affairs and draw them over to the wicked theories of Socialism and Communism, by confusing them with perverted teachings.”

Aside from our differences you are our older brothers in the faith of Abraham. "We realize today how blind we have been throughout the centuries and how we did not appreciate the beauty of the Chosen People or the features of our favored brothers. We are aware of the divine mark of Cain placed upon our forehead. In the course of centuries our brother, Abel, has been lying bleeding and in tears on the ground through our fault, only because we had forgotten Thy love. Forgive us our unjustified condemnation of the Jews. Forgive us that by crucifying them we have crucified You for the second time. Forgive us. We did not know what we were doing."
      - John XXIII
“... by the death of our Redeemer, the New Testament took the place of the Old Law, which had been abolished… on the gibbet of His death, Jesus made void the Law with its decrees [Ephesians 2:15]... establishing the New Testament in His blood shed for the whole human race. ‘To such an extent, then,’ says St. Leo the Great, speaking of the Cross of our Lord, ‘was there effected a transfer from the Law to the Gospel, from the synagogue to the Church, from many sacrifices to one Victim, that, as our Lord expired, that mystical veil … of the temple … was rent violently from top to bottom.’ On the Cross, then the Old Law died, soon to be buried and to be a bearer of death.”

I loved that Pope. I began High School when Vatican II began. I was taught by Dominican Nuns and we studied the regular reports of what was happening in the Council on a daily basis in religion class. We learned about the history of the traditions of the Church, we studied the Bible which was rare for Catholics but no longer because of him, we explored the basics of Christianity and Catholicism, and we learned what he was trying to do by calling the Council. The movie showed me how difficult it was for him. I didn’t know. I only was excited about his compassion and inclusion of all peoples. He reached out to the Orthodox Church who broke away in the 4th century ( I think), he reached out to the Jews to whom we owe our roots, and he taught love and compassion. Believe me he was not the cause of discord in the Church it was there for decades if not longer. We the average person were not aware because theologians and other writers were not permitted to express their views. I recommend reading The Devine Millie by Fr. Teillad De Chardain SJ. It was published after is death in 1965. It is profoundly spiritual. But it presents a relationship of a human being in relationship to God not traditionally presented by the Church at that time. But it is very beautiful. I thank God for him and those nuns that taught me during that very exciting time.

Martha Wissmann, I would strongly advise You to seriously and truly investigate the TRUE history of the Catholic Church starting the Conclave of 1858 to the present day of 2020, because I am most certain that You would discover historic FACTS that would PROVE exactly the opposite of what You are believing now. My suggestion will most certainly disturb Your present tranquillity, but... if this is the price to get at the TRUTH You should be willing, without hesitation, to pay for it, for there is NOT salvation for our Souls separated from the TRUTH! Thanks for Your kind attention. The Holy Spirit may guide You in Your search for TRUTH!

Cardinal Angelo Roncalli and Cardinal Giovanni Montini played major roles in saving Jewish lives during the Second World War. Like the majority of other Catholic leaders, parishes, and convents, they were acting under the orders of Pope Pius XII. His efforts saved 860,000 Jewish lives, a fact recognized by Golda Meir, Chaim Weizmann, Nahum Goldmann, and other Jewish leaders and organizations.
Roncalli later became Pope John XXIII; Montini became his successor, Pope Paul VI.

A very good movie describing the life of a remarkable man. It seams that the pope selection follows a scedule where every other conclave choses a jovial man with a bright heart aswell as mind, followed by a more academic man who focus on the curia. Every pope is worth respect, but some of them shines through as being remarkable human beings. John XXIII were such an inspiring human being.

A beautiful story of the life of Pope John XX111. A genuine, humble Christian love by the whole world. Vatican 2 was very necessary and needy for the future of the church, although I don’t agree with all the changes that were made.

On July 18, 1959, John XXIII suppressed the following prayer: "Be Thou King of all those who are still involved in the darkness of idolatry or Islam." In his Apostolic Brief on October 17, 1925, Pope Pius XI ordered that this prayer be publicly recited on the feast of Christ the King.
“(Muhammad) can also be figured for the dragon in the same Apocalypse which says that the dragon swept up a third of the stars and hurdled down a third to earth. Although this line is more appropriately understood concerning the antichrist, Mohammed was his precursor - the prophet of Satan, father of the sons of haughtiness.”
      - St. Thomas Aquinas

I have lived through a Century of outstanding Popes beginning with Pope Pius XII whose activities to help the Jewish people who was followed by Good Pope John XXIII, followed by the indecisive Pope Paul VI, followed by the short reign of Pope John Paul I, followed by the great Pope John Paul II, followed by the beloved Pope Benedict XVI and now Pope Francis. Six of these men were outstanding lights in a world of turmoil.

We Catholics have the holy fathers or the Pope of the universal Church, way back since the assignment of the first one, St Peter since the birth of the Church. They are elected through human priests comprising of cardinals and bishops by the inatruction of the Holy Spirit. They each are elected and each has great contribution for building and sustaining the Church. All of them exhibit and exude most of love holiness etc, as they represent the Lord Jesus Christ. I love them all.
