I’m a grown ass 25yo woman and I just watched that storyline a few months ago… and it stayed with me. It brought me back to times in my life when I felt that way. It’s unbelievably incredible and my girl Olivia Scriven slayed it.
Dave could have made great storylines and he was one of the best actors in acting on the show! His storyline in season 11 with Alli and the girl who was stalking him was great and great acting on his part! He and Drew could have been both besties and ran Degrassi in season 13 and 14 but he was replaced by Dallas, who I hated! Can’t have 2 black guys on the show 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ but R.I.P. Jahmil French
In the Degrassi miniseries, the first episode was Sean coming into town and running into Ellie. It was cheesy as hell, but it was supposed to be the “reunion” that wasn’t put in the main story arc.
I love Craig, he has so many character flaws but he is so enjoyable to watch. His downfall with the cheating and coke addiction made him even more interesting to follow
I liked Emma and Spinner too. The idea that they had just been kinda circling around each other for years but never really connecting - there's something kinda sweet about that. Plus I think they both actually make sense for each other at that point and time in their lives.
A lot of people aren't for it due to it seeming sooooo random, but irl that's actually how a lot of couples form in a smaller township/city. Usually people get together in high school and then either just stay together or do a on/off during high school and into early adulthood/forever (if they ended up having kids together.) Then the couples who was the 'it' couple who was together until some years after hs, they break up, and then one or both of them get into totally different relationships with more or less randomish people in town and then the cycle starts where those couples being on/off and then the first couple get back together and then back to the other person when they are done.
and Spike and Snake sort of did the same thing. While Spike had a crush on Snake in Degrassi High, they never dated til TNG. I always thought it was a little nod to that.
Her depression storyline was so well done. A lot of show do a depression or suicidal storyline and it like a two or three maybe 4 episode storyline that rushed and done poorly. they take a normal character with no sign or hints of depression and boom make then suicidal right away like no lead up nothing just boom. And a lot of time after the few episode it like forgotten and barley mention again. The fact Maya was done through out multiple season and slowly show her falling into her depression. I got back and rewatch episode and release there were hint at her depression that you wouldn’t even release until later.
@@SammiPDanton I completely agree, I also like how they didn’t ignore how traumatizing the situation with Cam was and showed how it continued to affect her years later through her sometimes obsessive concern with her friends
I still think Emma and Spinner was so random, but you do have a point. Emma did seem much more tolerable around Spin and we know that Spinner gives his all in relationships so, in theory, they'd probably be able to go the distance. I just want a reboot with them and their kid as the main girl so we can see their dynamic as parents!!!
You talking about Manny and Jimmy made me so upset because that relationship would’ve been the best thing in this world and the fact that that could never happen now is what’s killing me
I would’ve loved the relationship between them especially in season 3, when Ashley embarrassed both her and Craig. But them as a couple? Nahh, to me, Manny need more guy friends and less boyfriends. Come to think, she has stayed single during the early-mid seasons, like in season 4 and 5
He really is but when it comes to his relationships, he’s not the best but he really tried just not hard enough. Plus when it comes to his love life, he’s not that great at saying how he feels, especially when he gets cut off
I wish Craig and Marco dated. Their friendship was precious, and I think Crarco would have been great. In an interview, Jake Epstein, the actor who played Craig, once got a script about Marco and Craig getting together, but when Jake asked them about the scene, the writers told him to just disregard that scene. That was a mistake on the showrunner's part.
Drew should have either been introduced as a sophomore or written out of the show. Having him, Dallas, and Imogen all getting held back was lazy and just a way to cause drama.
Especially since in the earlier seasons, there was plenty of build up for Spinner, Jimmy, and Ashely being held back. It really shows the decline in writing when comparing the situations.
Sean & Ellie were endgame in my mind! Their breakup was mature for their age. They were independent so young. I second he should have picked up with Ellie versus getting with Emma.
I definitely agree that Drew and Clare had a cute dynamic. I haven't seen this arc in a long time, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't he call her his veep? I think that's adorable. ❤️
Ellie and Sean were such a good couple one of my fave. I like Emma and Sean too, but elllie and Sean had a better dynamic. I hate the breakfast club episode tho
Emma and Sean were cute in middle school. Once they got to high school they were just too different. Sean and Ellie had amazing chemistry and really brought out the best in each other.
I think people like the IDEA of Sean and Emma, as the puppy love that turns into something more relationship. However in actuality, they weren't really serving the first time(s) they were together and Sean coming back to Degrassi primarily for that relationship did not make a lick of sense. And for them to still not be endgame after the show did all that, just seemed ridiculous.
I remember watching a documentary years ago with Kevin Smith about Degrassi, and he said that of all of the actors that he met in the series...Jake Epstein had one of the most natural and true talents!
HEAVYYY on sean and ellie! absolutely adored them together, although sean was emma's best boyfriend him and ellie were just a better match. they were healthy, showed affection, and like you said i've genuinely never seen sean so happy with someone. i miss them so much
I agree with you about Peter. You forgot to mention how accepting and warm he was to Riley. And actually, Peter was supposed to be bisexual and date Riley, which would have been interesting.
HEAVILY AGREE WITH YOU ON CRAIG. And yes I also agree with you on the Peter thing as well. Idk what the writers were doing but they made Peter so likable at that point in time
I enjoyed Clare and drew as well, I'm currently rewatching seasons 13 and 14 and I think they are underrated seasons. I'm not a big fan of Eli and Clare, it was so toxic to me
Sean and Emma was cute... I think what made the couple good was that they needed one another for balance. Sean needed Emma to keep him grounded and from going down a dark road. Emma needed Sean to have fun and to stop being so uptight and type A. Sean and Ellie worked because they were both misunderstood and both had family issues and could relate on a lot of levels, but they were too similar. Neither could bring out the best in the other. I really think Sean should have came back from the military for the college season in order to complete the circle of development by helping Emma stay on track during college when she began to lose her way... But ya know, Spemma had to happen...
Ellie was Sean’s realistic match when he was his authentic self. It’s as though Sellie were friends before becoming romantic. Emma, especially after their glow ups, was Sean’s dream girl. He always admired her and saw her in a romantic type of way
Good to know I'm not the only one who hated lolaxmiles but like milesxtristan. I couldn't get behind lola and miles together and I was so glad that miles broke it off I also really liked maya and Dave as well. Maya was the only thing besides miles that got me thru next class tbh. And it seems like ppl refuse to believe that Dave can change. Like I've meant ppl irl who were super transphobic but later on became allies after learning what its like to be trans. If Adam was cool with Dave then im cool
I feel like the way you described Maya is the same way you described Emma, she may have her moments but she was good person Claire as well, for example the time when Emma didn’t agree with Manny getting an abortion but still defended her.
My two favorites are probably Craig and Miles. I feel like they’re very similar in a lot of ways, (abusive dads, drug addictions, etc) and they have so much depth that makes people care about them. And while they both make bad decisions they’re never really overbearingly annoying and are always interesting to watch. Also love how they brought Craig into next class as a celebrity pretty much lol
so glad there's someone out there that likes peter too! i disliked him so much in the beginning but i grew to really like him further on. i really like dave too and i enjoyed watching his character growth throughout the show; it makes me sad that not enough people acknowledge that :/ i also would've loved to see jimmy and manny together, they would've been so cute!
Maya was one of my all time favorite characters. Her story in season 3 of Next Class was so heartbreaking. But I could relate to her on so many levels.
Your opinions are super popular with me!!!!!! I’ve thought all of those things thru the years, I’m literally so old I was watching it as it was coming it lmao, but now there’s this community. I never really thought of manny and jimmy together but honestly I can see it and would have preferred it over her and spinner :/ All your points are super valid and I genuinely hope to see a video on the underuse of black actors on the show bc let’s be honest, there were a lot of storylines that should have def been explored more but weren’t.
i agree w all ur opinions !! also big maya stan and i did start to like peter too towards the end and honestly felt bad his girlfriends kept moving away 😭 n spemma is hated on wayyy too much i think they’re cute!! also miles and tristan are one of my top ships
I agree with most of the opinions, but the hill I will continue to die on his how much I haaaaate Emma and Spinner ending up together. Emma was the most unlikable character for me and I absolutely adore Spinner. For me, it felt like they just found someone's fanfiction and decided "Yep, let's go with that!" Jane and Spinner had actual chemistry and were there for each other through some dark times. That felt like an actual relationship. Emma and Spinner felt like a crappy Wattpad fic.
Emma was very domineering over Sean while Ellie and Sean seem like 2 people who liked each other. I liked the Claire and Drew situationship because they really helped each other. Claire helped him mature and take himself seriously and Drew helped her have fun and take herself less seriously. Craig is the best character. No to Manny and Jimmy, Jimmy is way too petty and clingy. Tristisn was so annoying but became tolerable when he was with Miles. Peter became boring and I couldn't get over how much of a batman villian he was in the beginning. Maya was on such a high horse it was hard for me to like her. I did like Dave, I think he tended to romantize things which lead to the second breakup with Ali, and he became Adam's best friend after the radio thing so I didn't see it as a character flaw. I would like the Emma and Spinner relationship if it developed more. Because Emma with Spinner is an entirely different Emma. So I would have liked the seedlings of that before just a surprise marriage.
I love Tristan and Miles they are one of my favorite couples. And I agree with everything you said about Drew and Clare I wanted them to have a thing for longer than they did.
Clare and drew tension was interesting to see. Season 13 and 14 got me back into degrassi after the Declan and holly j and Fiona seasons. Craig had thee best Arc and a well written story. The actor ate that role up
I will forever be a Craig apologist and defender idc. If he had only 1 fan, guess what? I’m that 1🫡 Also I totally agree with your Sellie, Maya, and Spemma opinions. I also wanna add that after rewatching degrassi as an adult, Ashley isn’t *that* bad and gets way more hate from the fandom than she deserves. Yeah she’s made some dumb decisions here and there but honestly who hasn’t on this show… Spemma knew each other in high school but wasn’t really ever together or close like that; but somehow met up in the future, found a spark, and got married like some small town couples do lol They were each other’s rebound, but still a cute couple to me. I’ve always felt Sellie should’ve gone further than it did. They had chemistry, a lot more in common, and just got each other better then he did with Emma (although they too had their moments). Sellie is the couple that got away for me 😪
Craig: mess of a person, endlessly watchable character. I would never want a Craig in my life but I love to have him in my plotlines That Peter part though--
Man you reminded me so much of how great Craig is. I can sometimes forget but he definately was my favourite in season 2-3. His family plots were always what drew me to him so once Joey was no longer on the show I did find myself not as interested in his plots as before, especially when Ellie was involved, they brought out the worst in each other. I genuinely find Peter super enjoyable in S8-9. At that point everyone he's wronged is no longer attending Degrassi, he stopped trying to be cool and embraced the fact he's a music dork and is all the better for it. He always put his friends before himself. Although i'm iffy about her overall era, I think Maya is probably objectively the best "main girl" seems to be a growing opinion so let Maya supremecy begin its reign over the fandom! lol
I love Drew and Clare. I can't stand either of them most of the time, but I love the chemistry. It's so cute and the relationship would've been very healthy.
YES to drew and clare. imo they really butchered drew & clare and how much better the love triangle could have been, it just makes sense to me that these two people have known each other for a long time but never cared for each other and, finally being in close proximity, they fall for each other. aislinn paul & luke bilyk sold it well.
I actually enjoyed Spinner and Emma being together. It's the relationship that you didn't see coming, and then boom they are together. I do wish they had a little more development. Snake and Spike were able to come back and be a part of the show. I would have loved to see the same with Spinner and Emma. With all the toxic couples that were showcased, but not show the one where they are honestly healthy together, they support each other, had a child together, and had zero drama. Not too many Degrassi couples can say that.
I feel Dave was the one black actor after the original cast left that got a bit more out of the show. Like not a ton, but enough that I recall him. Also, and I noticed this, why are characters who have LGBTQA+ family members or (in Becky’s case) dating someone in that group bothering people who are also in the group. Drew & Tristan’s brother both bothered Riley and Becky acted obnoxious (she wasn’t as bad, but still should be called out), and to me, it’s odd that LGBTQA+ character’s siblings were doing things that felt like they were attacking people in their community. I’m not a Tristan stan (I stopped watching the show when he came on), but I think he got better. I actually think Frankie was more annoying than Maya too. Like she’s not bad, but she seems very…dense and like she’s not on earth. I dunno, I just can’t like her much.
i really liked Semma because of their history and how they kinda hated each other at the beginning and kept going back to each other but i think that Ellie and Sean were more compatible
Finally someone who likes Sellie over Semma even Sean's actor prefers Semma. I didn't mind Semma but never got the hype around them, they seemed more like an awkward first couple rather than something I would ship, I feel like Sellie just had more chemistry. Granted Sean was the only pairing I liked with Emma but thats just because her other pairings were bad (I didn't mind Spemma I just wished they had more chemistry before) Agree with Peter even though he did do some horrible stuff (still haven't fully forgave what he did to Manny) but he had moments where I did quite like him I loved his friendship with Riley and relationship with Darcy.
Best character throughout all of Degrassi male: Spinner and female: Manny. I can’t even get into the worst because that’s a hard list to do but my personal favorite characters are Dave, Alli, Manny, Liberty, Drew and Sean.
I love Emma and spinner together too because they were two of the originals from season 1 so technically they’ve grown up together, seeing 3rd other and having interactions and they’ve seen each other mature and I’m sure they’ve witnessed a lot of both the good and bad from each other lol
Thank you so much for adding the spinner and Emma ship because I know it’s very controversial but I did like Emma in this relationship too she just was glowing and I felt that spinner was more mature and the way they were put together was unexpected but it was a nice twist.
Regarding Craig, I think the character also benefited from how charming the actor who played him was. Don't get me wrong, he is an interesting character regardless, I just think Jake Epstein also played him *just* right, and that made him even more likeable. He's the character I was rooting for, even when he was messing up.
Yes! Clare & Drew. As much as I like Eli & Clare together I was hoping they would stay broken up so she could date Drew until graduation. I agree Craig was a good character and it was never boring when he was on the screen but I still don't like him. There are ppl who dislike Dave? Never met one.
I actually agree with most of this. I loved Emma and spinner even though it was random it made sense to me. But I liked her a lot even though she could be really self centered probably because I related to her, Manny, and Craig the most. I felt like she had a lot of pressure on herself to be perfect. I also suffered addiction and mental health issues before I had my daughter. I was a terrible person who never learned how to deal with trauma. So that could be why I am more forgiving of those characters flaws. Degrassi really helped me through some dark times. I think some people are to quick to never let people especially teens have room to grow and be better I loved Degrassi did that. Honestly I feel like most people can grow someone has to be really awful for me to think they are a lost cause. Thank you for the video sorry for my long response I don't get to talk to many Degrassi fans. 😂
100% yes to Jimmy & Manny ( Janny , Jammy either one is cute ) , they should've dated & been endgame . I personally feel like back in the early 00's a couple like them was rare & the media for some reason couldn't comprehend it smh . Interracial couples almost always had to involve a "certain " race or it wouldn't happen . As the show & time progressed I feel like the show in a way made up for it with Dallas & Ali . I literally just saw a edit where both Liberty & Toby are talking about Jimmy & Manny ending up together with 4 kids .......I'm Upset ( No pun intended ) .
Well.......... sometimes things are unpopular for a reason! (I kid, I kid) Sean and Ellie were my favorite early-season relationship, BY FAR! Strongly disagree on Tristan and Miles though - I liked them as a pairing right until they got together and then it all went down the drain. I also really like Maya... I think they should have addressed Cam more in the sequel series, how they danced around his death was kind of odd, but I do love where they went psychologically with her character. The Zig romance was the only dud in her story imo.
Solid arguments. I loved Peter. He really grew. He was so good to Emma, Darcy, and Mia. Such a good friend to Riley and others. He coped to shitty things like a snotty rich kid would do, but ugh! Hate that people don’t really acknowledge that
Maya's depression storyline stemming from Cam's suicide to her own suicide attempt was one of the best written storylines in the franchise.
But It Really Was From Tristan
I love how they also didn't beat you over the head with that; it was written there in a mirrored way
1010% agreed. Beautifully done
When she was talking with Saad by the bud and she talks about cam, then Adam. I cry everytime. She went through so much loss.
I’m a grown ass 25yo woman and I just watched that storyline a few months ago… and it stayed with me. It brought me back to times in my life when I felt that way. It’s unbelievably incredible and my girl Olivia Scriven slayed it.
I think my biggest issue with Dave's character is how he spent YEARS pining after Ali, just to cheat on her right after they got together.
RIP Jahmil
true. i feel like once he was in with the "popular" crowd, it kinda went to his head
Also, how they blackholed him in S13. We could've had great character development with him pursuing Ali again, realizing he made a mistake.
@@ramonmaldonado3713that would’ve been terrible for him, plus Dallas made a better boyfriend

All your points are super valid and I genuinely hope to see a video on the underuse of black actors on the show bc let’s be honest, there were a lot of storylines that should have def been explored more but weren’t.
Maya is the best ❤ I didn’t like Zig for the longest time w/ his kicked puppy face, but he grew on me by the end.
i agree w all ur opinions !! also big maya stan and i did start to like peter too towards the end and honestly felt bad his girlfriends kept moving away 😭 n spemma is hated on wayyy too much i think they’re cute!! also miles and tristan are one of my top ships
Once again rip jahmil french
I literally loved Dave so much, he was so funny and was definitely an enjoyable character
The episode where Sean and ellie first met in detention was one of the best degrading episodes of all times!
I love Tristan and Miles they are one of my favorite couples. And I agree with everything you said about Drew and Clare I wanted them to have a thing for longer than they did.
Peter had a decent redemption arc. I wouldn’t say he’s a great person, but I can definitely appreciate him as a character.
i do just wanna say peter became a more decent human in like season 6 until the Meth line, after that i couldn’t stand him
fr i love ellie and sean sm 😭
Clare and drew tension was interesting to see. Season 13 and 14 got me back into degrassi after the Declan and holly j and Fiona seasons. Craig had thee best Arc and a well written story. The actor ate that role up
I will forever be a Craig apologist and defender idc. If he had only 1 fan, guess what? I’m that 1🫡 Also I totally agree with your Sellie, Maya, and Spemma opinions. I also wanna add that after rewatching degrassi as an adult, Ashley isn’t *that* bad and gets way more hate from the fandom than she deserves. Yeah she’s made some dumb decisions here and there but honestly who hasn’t on this show…
Spemma knew each other in high school but wasn’t really ever together or close like that; but somehow met up in the future, found a spark, and got married like some small town couples do lol They were each other’s rebound, but still a cute couple to me.
I’ve always felt Sellie should’ve gone further than it did. They had chemistry, a lot more in common, and just got each other better then he did with Emma (although they too had their moments). Sellie is the couple that got away for me 😪
I think that they should’ve made jimmy at least be able to walk again Yk
You need to post way more of these i love it
Miles and Tristan are so unbelievably unlikable. I've never heard anyone say they liked it.
I agree with Clare and Drew. I lived for every moment!!
Craig: mess of a person, endlessly watchable character. I would never want a Craig in my life but I love to have him in my plotlines
That Peter part though--
I like Craig too. The actor did a great job in this role. They gave him such interesting story lines.
Although i'm iffy about her overall era, I think Maya is probably objectively the best "main girl" seems to be a growing opinion so let Maya supremecy begin its reign over the fandom! lol
Sean and Emma hatred? That isn't allowed.
I was really surprised that I enjoyed Clare and Drew too! I never liked Drew that much, but they had such great chemistry together!
I love Drew and Clare. I can't stand either of them most of the time, but I love the chemistry. It's so cute and the relationship would've been very healthy.
Maya had a SERIOUS glow up!
Also yesss I agree with the clew! I liked drew and Clare I was so annoyed they snuffed it out so quickly I loved this video lol instant subscribed
Never really thought about it until you mentioned it but oooo Manny and Jimmy would’ve been so powerful lmao
finally someone who also loves s13/14 it was so interesting idk why people hate it sm i loved zoes storyline!
I wish they had more shay and tiny but they barely gave them any plots in next class
jimmy and manny definitely wouldve ate omg 😭😭
YES to drew and clare. imo they really butchered drew & clare and how much better the love triangle could have been, it just makes sense to me that these two people have known each other for a long time but never cared for each other and, finally being in close proximity, they fall for each other. aislinn paul & luke bilyk sold it well.
Peter’s crimes against humanity are so insane
I never thought I’d love or ship Claire with Drew but their chemistry was off the charts, i was totally there for it!
They had zero drama because they had zero interaction lol
Granted Sean was the only pairing I liked with Emma but thats just because her other pairings were bad (I didn't mind Spemma I just wished they had more chemistry before)
Agree with Peter even though he did do some horrible stuff (still haven't fully forgave what he did to Manny) but he had moments where I did quite like him I loved his friendship with Riley and relationship with Darcy.
I agree about the Craig part, he was the best character when you think about it. He had layers, and you weren't bored with his storylines.
I ship Emma and somebody's fist after that whole Peter shit. Like absolutely not.
Thank you I am a Peter apologist. Towards the end of his time.
I love Craig, Maya, and Dave. They're some of my favorite characters and storylines!
I looooooveddd Spinner and Emma. Probably my favorite episodes lol.
Thank you so much for adding the spinner and Emma ship because I know it’s very controversial but I did like Emma in this relationship too she just was glowing and I felt that spinner was more mature and the way they were put together was unexpected but it was a nice twist.
Craig was THE best character with an amazing storyline. His character deserved his own movie tbh. It would’ve been amazing and heartfelt
Craig was played so well !! Justice for Jake Epstein
Emma and Spinner are perfect for each other seeing how awful they are to their supposed "best friends"
i actually agree with u about peter, he ended up maturing so much after a while
thank you! i could make a whole compilation of him being a good character in his later seasons but i'd get so much hate lol
Never met one.
yup a ton of fans i encounter do not like dave :(
I always loved Craig. And the actor was so good too
Yesss. I am also a huge Craig stan for all the same reasons
I also want to see you do a video of the worst/best parents on the show as well as friendships
i filmed a ranking friendships video! it'll be posted soon! :)
I loved Sean and Ellie together! I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought that.
I feel like if Sean never wanted to get back with Emma he wouldn't have needed to join the army
(I kid, I kid)
Sean and Ellie were my favorite early-season relationship, BY FAR!
I love the Emma and Spinner relationship.
I liked the Drew and Claire dynamic way more than her with Eli! I wish they would have had that storyline last longer 😢
Solid arguments.
I loved Peter. He really grew. He was so good to Emma, Darcy, and Mia. Such a good friend to Riley and others. He coped to shitty things like a snotty rich kid would do, but ugh! Hate that people don’t really acknowledge that
I was a big time Sean x Emma girl, but now that I'm older I also really love her with Spinner despite the bad writing.
