I also liked Eli’s storyline in relation to Cam’s suicide. He didn’t know Cam, but he was the one who found him and it really could have been him at some point. It’s a great parallel.
Eli‘s character definitely had the best development, but that’s mainly due to season 10 being 40+ episodes. Craig’s story is sad, he came in abused and bipolar and left on crack. Miles was definitely the most complicated character because of his back-and-forth with Tristan and Mya, and his relationship with his dad, and then his relationship with Lola.
Hi! I think Craig's story is sad, but also very important. Because while degrassi is like a beacon of hope sometimes (Bianca, KC). I also think it's realistic to show the other side. There are a lot of stories like Craig of people that don't overcome their issues. Cam is another example of this. Also Craig's story shows a bit of the dark side of the rocker lifestyle. Who knows how many people we see on tv that are big super stars but suffer behind closed doors? I personally like the realism and found it believable in his case.
It's weird how the second and third generation characters share at least two seasons together but the first gen is completely gone by the time Clare is a freshman. That "lost class" of 2008 was really the uncomfortable but necessary transition it needed to continue after the first gen left.
Umm Holky J was Iconic!!! She definitely is not the lost generation to me! That generation was needed in order to fix up the mess they made after kept the original cast in past high school!
Yeah I agree it is weird about that the second and third group of characters were in a few seasons towards the end of the degrassi series previously known as TNG but like after Eli and Claire and their friends leave its mostly about Maya and Zig and their group of friends in degrassi next class
I guess Craig's storyline is more realistic maybe but I didn't like how they developed him and so I was surprised when they didn't do the same thing to Eli. I think Eli came at a time where the writers were actually catering to the audience.
Best intro: Eli. He literally has the best intro on the show. Friendships: craig and Eli were amazing to all their friends. Relationship: Eli and Claire when they got back together after the first time they broke up Best storyline: craig Best conclusion: defintiely miles 💜
right! he wasn’t quick to label himself and i think it was good when he said he doesn’t know but what he does know is he feels good when tristan is around.
Literally the video I requested! I love these 3 characters but Eli was more fleshed out. Sometimes the Holingsworth are disappointing cause there would be so much to explore with them but it's always done in a messy unresolved way.
I’m going with Craig. I loved every bit of his character basically for the entire time he was on the show. I think out of all of his storylines I liked his abuse and bipolar plot, it showed progression and was necessary to be depicted. His girl drama is kinda normal in high schoolers, and his drug abuse fit his rockstar lifestyle he began living so…I guess😭. After him it’s Eli and then Miles. I liked Eli’s bipolar plot and relationship drama (kinda). Miles seasons is where things fell off for me as a viewer so yeah. Sn: Craig was an amazing friend! Every bestie duo in the TNG had flawed moments on both sides (except for Jimmy) but Craig was good to every friend he had. Sean, Emma, Ashley, Jimmy, Marco, Ellie. I’d even add Spinner and Manny (when they weren’t together)
completely agree!! craig wins this one! his storylines were always executed so well. also, i find his relationships with girls to be way more compelling and realistic compared to eli’s😭
I agree Craig was a great friend but a terrible boyfriend. I liked his character at first but as the show went on and he got older I didn’t like how he treated girlfriends
I loved Eli as a young girl who liked men with that style. But as a 26 year old woman I ADORE miles. The sass, the fluid sexuality… I hate tristan personally but genuinely enjoyed Miles every time he was on screen. So much, that I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and decided to name my son Miles very early on in the pregnancy and it has stuck. 💙
Eli’s prime era was when I started watching the show but I grew up with Miles and graduated the same year, 2017(2016 was the canon graduation date of his class but the season aired in 2017). I enjoyed Craig’s story and the acting but I couldn’t relate to him as much because of the era he was from. They’re all some of the best characters though
One other thing these three characters have in common is that they are really supportive LGBT allies. Looking back, they were usually the confidants and were paired off platonically with them. If this were a category I'd choose Eli, because even though Marco and Craig had a great friendship Eli has made multiple friends in the LGBT community and has supported them in unique ways, teaching the audience how to be allies for a trans kid. There was a great opportunity for Miles to support Zoe, but his own sexuality became more of a plot point, so he was barely in the running.
Your commentary is absolutely Gold I live for these videos! Craig had the best storyline but the worst character progression in my opinion. Eli was meant to just be that mysterious bad boy.
I think the reason that Craig and Eli's stories really resonate with me is because I grew up with an abusive father and I was diagnosed with bipolar when I was 17. I've also struggled with substances and I honestly fear becoming Craig. Even as a kid I related to them so much. I just wish Craig had overcome his struggles.
Great video! It's tough to choose but I'd pick Craig. I love Jake Epstein and he was in the best seasons, in my opinion. The love triangle with Ashley and Manny was iconic. I adored his relationship with Joey and his friendships. And I know they were toxic, but I did ship him with Ellie. So I was actually happy with how they ended his story in the movie, even though it meant he was cheating (yet again!) on his girlfriend, haha.
I think these would be other good combos to compare. I’ve obviously have thought way too much about this 😂: Spinner/Drew/Moe Ellie/Jane/Grace Marco/Adam/Tristan Alex/Bianca/Esme Jimmy/Sav/Winston
Craig had a really sad story, but he was such a hot mess especially with his romantic drama. I thought Eli and Miles were much better developed despite their faults. Miles grew on me the more episodes I watched featuring him.
Eli by far but then again it's due to him having more screen time because seasons 10/11 and 12 were all 40+ seasons. Technically if you're going by episode numbers along it's like he was in 8 seasons because seasons until S10 were generally like 24/25 episodes. Craig had a very traumatic childhood with his dad being very abusive and not letting him have any kind of relationship with his step-sister Angie. Craig doesn't value any of the girls in his relationships like Ashley who acted like she was the one but cheated on her with Manny, and then later flirted with Ellie when he was with Manny. While it wasn't shown on screen I wouldn't be surprised if this is a learned behaviour from his dad. This dad does come across as a womanizer. I mean he had a great home situation with Joey and he was a great role model. However, the stuff that Craig's dad put him through doesn't just go away. He needed intensive therapy to help him. Miles just needed a good adult role model because the ones in his life were shit. His Dad was cheating on his mom, he had anger issues and he always threw money at a problem. The mother was not nurturing she decided to live in this ignorant bubble pretending like nothing was going on when it was clear her kids needed help. Miles just did the only thing he knew, which was to do whatever he could to get his parent's attention. He has a good heart but no guidance. Then stick him with the most toxic person in the world like Tristan who instead of helping him explore his bisexuality exploits it for his own gain because all Tristan cares about is finding his true love and himself. I hate Tristan with a huge passion for how he used miles. Maya was such an amazing influence on him if only they would've lasted it would have helped him severely but sadly he didn't see that. For whatever reason he kept going back to toxic Tristan. I feel like Eli is similar to Miles who has a good heart but also had good parents (Especially his dad) and good friends and girlfriend everything Miles lacked to help him grow, sadly. Eli was a real one you could easily count on him and he'll be there. He was loyal to his friends and he valued his relationships. While his cheating in season 13 was wrong I think he was either missing Claire a lot he didn't know how to deal with or he was going through some kind of breakdown. I say this because those actions seemed so random for Eli because he was always shown to be loyal and then randomly he cheats? Something was going on there, it wasn't normal behaviour for him like it was for Craig.
I think the same! Eli is great, Craig was very interesting but then they had no ideas for his storyline and Miles's relationship whis his father was interesting and then it was boring.
I loved Eli the best. Craig’s storyline was sad because of how he was abused by his dad and then his bipolar disorder. Miles was an okay character but he wasn’t my favorite character

Craig’s technical ending is in season 4 (and 2) of next class. But I understand next generation’s season 8 finale was his last appearance as more than a cameo He does appear in season 7 btw, in one episode
Yay this was great. I would say overall Jake Epstein is the best actor of the 3, so give him an extra point lol! I think it would also be good to compare manny /Ali, but hard to decide who from the next class is similar. Also mean girls Paige/Holly J/Zoey, but we all know Holly J will be your favorite lol
I love this video about Craig vs Eli vs Miles from the degrassi series of their own era Craig from the early TNG Eli from the seasons 10-14 of degrassi Miles from season 13 to degrassi season 4 of next class I love it you did a great job on the video
I just have to comment again about the relationship part. Eli did not just immediately come clean about cheating, the only reason he ever did was because he thought he got busted. Eli and clare were the absolute most toxic relationship on the whole show. Eli disregarded clares feelings regarding the fitz stuff. Eli attempted to control clare and emotionally manipulate her by crashing his car. Eli then proceeded to horrifically harrass and bully clare with his play. Eli cheated and then had the nerve to slutshame clare for getting pregnant after hooking up with Drew. Clare was far from perfect either but this is about Eli. Then his "relationship" with imogen was also incredibly disturbing. Eli was truly terrible in relationships. Craig was as well. Miles wasnt perfect by any means but was objectively better than them both in relationships. Yes, he was awful to Tristan when they broke up the first time but he was abusing marijuana to cope with being abused. Miles was always going to be a bad boyfriend until he resolved his daddy issues, his identity issues and the substance abuse issues that accompanied those issues. He and tristan had a very healthy relationship in Next Class, much healthier than any relationship craig or eli ever had by far.
I agree with the point you made about Eli only coming clean because he thought he was caught. Eli and Clares relationship was definitely toxic, but Miles was mean to tristan, cheated on Maya and didn’t say anything until he got caught. In next class Miles also cheated on Tristan while he was in a coma. And it was very shortly after he was in the hospital. In general I think Eli was better, but I understand the argument for Miles. Craig definitely lost 😂.
@@THTGUY I agree that Craig has to be last 🤣 eli and miles are close though for sure. The thing about the fling miles had with Lola is that he was being told that Tristan may never wake up and that he should get on with his life. He trauma-bonded with Lola but broke it off immediately after Tristan woke up and came clean about it once it seemed appropriate to. He was definitely really mean to Tristan in TNG but no worse than Eli writing a whole play for the entire school to see about what a backstabbing jezebel clare is 🤣 degrassi is wild af bro, I wouldn't want to date none of these people
You should also make a video on the different degrassi bullies sometime too like Spinner and Jay and Johnny and Fitz and Owen too and others if I'm missing any though but I would love to see a video about them to compare
Craig is the best! Jake Epstein was fantastic in the role, especially with the storyline about his abusive father. Also, his love triangle with Manny & Ashley is one my favorites. Eli was fine. But, just like with Clare it's a little unfair because he got soooooo much more screentime than everyone else. I'm glad he didn't end up with Clare but he definitely over-stayed his welcome 🙄 I hate Miles and everything he represents. His character goes against Degrassi's charm of staying relatively grounded. He's someone who should've been on 90210 or some other USA teen show. And, no offense but the acting was bad 🤦🏾♀️
I don’t think it’s fair to hold Miles not helping Lola out through her abortion against him, because he didn’t even know she’d been pregnant until after she’d had the abortion and made her peace with it.
Miles. Miles is my baby. Mostly because I see a lot of myself in him and also because of how much he suffers with his dad and still finds a way to stay strong for himself and for Frankie and Hunter.
Jesus Christ. I had to go back TWICE because I thought one of your headings was "Black Buddies" (you know, Hazel, Marisol, Chantay, Danny... etc. a RIDICULOUS amount of Black characters who only function to say "whooo, snap" when their assigned White Bestie says , you know. Anything at all ever.) because they're sure enough is a lot of them.
And manny and Clare were so toxic and dramatic as well but also cute lol 😂 I think I have a fetish for bad boys and I also loved the storyline w Craig’s dad was really well written
Miles, to me, is kinda like a mixture of: J.T. Yorke, Craig Manning, Peter Stone, Declan Coyne, Jane Vaughn, Campbell Saunders, Sean Cameron and Eli Goldsworthy.
No one's better or worse for me! They all had their era and I liked them all in their own way, Craig, Eli and Miles! Only my favorite character has been Eli until the end!
As nice as the conclusion to Eclare is, they didn't really solve their first problem which was the distance. I don't see why they can make it work now. Yeah they've been through losing a baby but that's like only one of the things their relationship has gone through.
See, Craig may not have had very many beefs, but the rivalries he does have are, like... so perfect. We would never have gotten Mr. Nice Guy, Craig's "I'm a Fuck Up" song... idk what happened to the music of Degrassi, but those first 5-7 seasons were fuckin FIRE. I still have CDs full of Downtown Sasquatch, Paige Michealchuck and the Sexkittens, Craig's solos, Craig and Ashley... Jimmy and Ashley... such great music. My thing with Craig, though, was this: Why come, when he returned in season 8 / That Degrassi Movie, he turned 35? Like. They got him off of that show *just* in the nick of time, because when he came back just for those couple of episodes, cocaine (I assume) had turned him into my Dad. Him hitting on Stacy Farber was sofa king gross because he looks like a decade older than her, AT LEAST. Wtf Craig. Why come you so old?
Def Eli, I always found his storylines to be very fun to watch up until he cheated on Claire. I honestly hated miles and the way he treated people. Same with Craig, he played with too many hearts but I loved him and Joey’s relationship.
Craig is why I started watching degrassi, he could get it all day. But you make a good case for both Eli and miles!l, who sometimes I found annoying tbh
I also liked Eli’s storyline in relation to Cam’s suicide. He didn’t know Cam, but he was the one who found him and it really could have been him at some point. It’s a great parallel.

And his relationship with Zoe 😂

I’d love to see a whole Degrassi high review tbh. It deserves one
I really liked that teacher from Degrassi Jr. High who eventually became a librarian in Degrassi High
I live for when I see you in my notifications with another Degrassi video
Even though Eli is probably my favorite, but I'm gonna say Miles. He had lots of layers in his character

I'm glad he didn't end up with Clare but he definitely over-stayed his welcome 🙄
I hate Miles and everything he represents. His character goes against Degrassi's charm of staying relatively grounded. He's someone who should've been on 90210 or some other USA teen show. And, no offense but the acting was bad 🤦🏾♀️
Manny always starts smiling before she cries💀
Spinner vs Drew vs Zig would be a good one!
Eli is the best
Before watching, Im telling you, it's Eli.
Craig is top tier.
Miles being on this list is like the drake meme “Bro thinks he’s on the team”
I don’t think it’s fair to hold Miles not helping Lola out through her abortion against him, because he didn’t even know she’d been pregnant until after she’d had the abortion and made her peace with it.
They were all epic but Eli was the most fleshed out.
Miles. Miles is my baby. Mostly because I see a lot of myself in him and also because of how much he suffers with his dad and still finds a way to stay strong for himself and for Frankie and Hunter.
i love these videos
Jesus Christ. I had to go back TWICE because I thought one of your headings was "Black Buddies" (you know, Hazel, Marisol, Chantay, Danny... etc. a RIDICULOUS amount of Black characters who only function to say "whooo, snap" when their assigned White Bestie says , you know. Anything at all ever.) because they're sure enough is a lot of them.
And manny and Clare were so toxic and dramatic as well but also cute lol 😂 I think I have a fetish for bad boys and I also loved the storyline w Craig’s dad was really well written
Manny wasn't that toxic after season 3. Claire was doing too much though.
Miles, to me, is kinda like a mixture of: J.T. Yorke, Craig Manning, Peter Stone, Declan Coyne, Jane Vaughn, Campbell Saunders, Sean Cameron and Eli Goldsworthy.
You should do Sean vs KC vs Zig
No one's better or worse for me! They all had their era and I liked them all in their own way, Craig, Eli and Miles! Only my favorite character has been Eli until the end!
craig during season 2 put me on such an emotional rollercoaster.... i just pretend that he wasn't even in degrassi goes hollywood
As nice as the conclusion to Eclare is, they didn't really solve their first problem which was the distance. I don't see why they can make it work now. Yeah they've been through losing a baby but that's like only one of the things their relationship has gone through.
I like them.all all excellent characters in my eyes
6:13 … wasn’t Imogen stalking Eli???
Craig also had 2 cameos in next class.
Craig is a good guy just a bad boyfriend lol. He’s my favorite tho.
Eli hands down
Craig went downhill. Eli went uphill. Miles had a lot of ups then a lot of downs before ending pretty level.
MILES! Period!
Wowww this is a good one
could you please do Terri vs Anya vs Frankie? (The friend & sidekick of the queen bee/HBIC who gets pushed around by them and walked over)
See, Craig may not have had very many beefs, but the rivalries he does have are, like...
Craig is the best character, simple as that
Craig imo had the best storylines, and yes his character was a mess but he was interesting to watch. So Imma go with Craig!
Season 10 Episode 11 made me question why there is a basketball hoop above parking spaces
Miles is consistent chaos.
I have a bad memory, but I have watched your videos. What about Dave and Ali, Liberty and JT?
0:04 eli
Eli hands down was my favorite ♥️🔥💕💋
Respectfully imma have to pick my guy Eli he definitely had the best character development
Eli > Craig > Miles
