bruh the writers really had to put Drew with every girl on the show, absolutely unhinged. highkey wish there had been more time/focus on Clare and Drew because their dynamic was fun to watch, and their friendship developed naturally. plus the banter was fun.
As much as I don't think JT and Manny were a good couple, I do think that it's fairly realistic that people in that age range who have been friends for a long time might attempt to date, and that it would feel weird and awkward lol So I'm glad they broke up, but I'm not mad that they tried it. I also feel like Manny and Spinner could have been a really fun couple if the writers had given them time to develop. The buildup and subsequent anticlimactic execution were disappointing, and it just ended up feeling like they shouldn't have bothered to write it in if they weren't going to follow through, but the potential was there

I talked about how weird that part was on a fan website and, I'm not even kidding you, I got like 50 replies saying it's totally fine because technically not illegal. I was so confused bc I honestly didn't expect the community to react like that. I reminded me of people who instantly yell at you if you point out how creepy it is to marry someone who just turned 18.

When Imogen was first introduced she was the worst; she was manipulative, conniving, and obsessive She was so mean to Claire for no reason besides her jealous, pretended to be Claire to feel Eli’s love for her, agreed to take his meds from him, and whenever he was on the edge of crazy she always pushed him off After she got over Eli and was discovering her bisexuality she became one of my favorites but rewatching is hard
ellie and craig yes thank you!!! i felt like everyone shipped them back in the day, but you are absolutely right. ellie was unbearable with her crush on him. they completely changed her character just to fit her having a crush on him 😓 awful

To me KC and Jenna was the most toxic couple on the show, they just brought out the absolute worst in each other and I feel like KC was kind of emotionally abusive in the way he would yell at her, talk down to her and then make her apologize. People keep saying that Jenna deserved it because she 'stole' KC from Clare (which I do think was an awful thing to do) but it still does not excuse treating your girlfriend like garbage.
It's more poetic justice than anything, but you are right in that KC shouldn't have treated Jenna like shit. In all honesty, it just goes to show how KC would have been a shitty boyfriend to both Clare and Jenna even if Jenna and KC didn't cheat.
But when Jenna found out she was pregnant she didn't tell KC right away, if she did she probably would've been able to get an abortion which was their plan but it ended up being too late, I hate when women get pregnant and wait a WHILE to tell their husband, boyfriend, etc, like their gonna find out eventually so what's the point in keeping it a secret

I think Manny & JT were so obviously not gonna make sense that the writers did it on purpose. Manny was looking for something safe after getting hurt. Plus I think it actually replicates lots of high school relationships that are really awkward/one-sided. So I thought it was a good thing to put in the show.

I didn't like Holly J & Blue. They could have just left it as her having a crush on him that didn't go beyond that. It was like watching oil and water mix. Ashley & Jimmy. Idk why they got back together when she returned to Degrassi. Ellie's last few seasons were filled with boy drama and slowly made her unlikable character. Alli had some bad relationships. I don't like Dallas but he was her most stable relationship. I had erased the Drew & Becky pairing from my memory.
Honestly felt like the writers ran out of things to write about so they forced these unnecessary couples on us. Majority of the couples on the show was cringy. I’m watching it back now that I’m older I’m like woah degrassi took dramatic to a whole different level. These characters was 14-17 going through some stuff I haven’t even experienced and I’m 33 years old lol. They was too of an extreme couple for just for them to be teenagers.
KC and Jenna were not a great couple, but they were entertaining as hell. I loved their pregnancy storyline, because it was much different than anything else I'd seen on tv.

I agree with all your picks for the reasons that you said with a few exceptions. I really think Jake and Clare worked until they tried to keep it going after their parents got married. I can see why they tried to keep it going as long as they did but they should have seen the writing on the wall. Besides the whole cheating on his comatose boyfriend thing I see what they were going for with Miles and Lola. Lola grew as a character and if it weren't for Tristan I could see that relationship working. Sav and Holly J are in my Top 5 Degrassi ships. I loved the carefree, let's just see where this thing goes attitude they had. There were no expectations and the made a great team which I think added to the chemistry. Everyone knew it wasn't forever and the low stakes made everything kinda charming and innocent.
The one thing about Becky and Drew that makes me give it a pass (I don't ship it but I'm not outright disgusted by it) is that it's not uncommon for people to date their dead partner's sibling or another close family member after that person passes. Also they didn't start dating immediately after Adam died, but after some time and forming a friendship. I don't love their relationship, but I didn't care too much that it was happening either. I was more pissed about Clare and Drew being shafted before we got to see them get together.
Claire and Jake made me so uncomfortable. I had to skip through all of those scenes because it made me wanna barf. It reminds me a lot of the relationship between the foster siblings in The Fosters which also made me uncomfortable.
Thank you for talking about Manny and Spinner because they literally had no scenes as a couple and then just broke up. I felt cheated. Especially after all that build up and flirting and that’s what we got. They could have been cute if the writers gave them a chance.

Marco and Dylan. Like really boring and honestly think Marco could have done better. I feel sad that Riley and Zane never really get brought up, because I feel they were the best m/m relationship on the show. Riley was not the best at the beginning, but Zane (who’s my favorite character on Degrassi) made him a great guy.
Zane deserved so muuuuch!!!! It makes me so sad he didn’t get a good fun/healthy boyfriend Cuz Riley got better with time but there was no growth due to homophobia still being part of Riley’s life

I get what you mean about JT/Manny and I do agree with you, but I think that it worked in the show because I know growing up of seeing similar dynamics play out. I have seen people be in a friend group, be pretty tight, one gets a make-over/glow-up and then someone in their friend group ends up and a friend either confesses of past feelings or feelings end up happening (hormones) or they were just drinking and ended up hooking up and then they date and it's awkward af. Then there are times where that does turn out to be a good thing and they end up married or whatever, but I know from my own experiences it was more awkward than anything mainly due to it being one sided with physically/emotionally (like a person really wants the sex but not really the baggage that comes with a relationship.)

I'm finally watching Degrassi after years of people praising it's name - and of course obsessing over scene compilations on TH-cam (it's just as good as I thought it was, by the way)! I haven't made it pass season six, but yes, Craig and Ellie was bull-ish (excuse my language). The couple I dislike the most so far, though, is Daryl and Marco. Daryl cheated, then had the nerve to come back (most likely after he got lonely when he realized his f**k buddies weren't interested in being friends), and tell Marco that everyone Marco would date after him would really be all about him, Daryl! What?! It was giving me some type of emotional, mental, manipulative abuse vibes (whatever it's called). So far he's been neglectful, and has failed to mention that he was planning on moving to Switzerland. Then to see Paige pulling the same emotional roller-coaster nonsense with Alex, I'm like, 'This bull-ish runs in the family!'. Makes me wonder who's the troublemaker amongst the parents, mommy or poppy.

I love them as a couple. I think a lot of their issues came down to poor communication - which is spot on for how teenagers are. Especially seeing who Johnny became, I think they would 100% work now.
I kind of disagree with some of this. Like with KC and Jenna, that storyline was so vital to their characters, especially Jenna's. I think I was looking at this video more of a why this was written terrible and should have never happened more than relationships like KC and Jenna. Also, I think Imogen's crush was fine but prolly shouldnt have progressed further. Everything else is on point EXCEPT for Sav and Holly J. Imo the chemistry was there and they fit together really well, one of my favorite couples tbh. Also idk Paige and Spinner seemed boring but thats because they were just pretty normal, I also completely disagree with them as an honorable mention. I think Alli and Drew both grew a lot from their relationship, I think it was needed. But like, that's so real and honestly they could've kept the story going with the baby by having them co-parent and be in healthy relationships. Orrrr had KC give up his rights and had Jenna play a single mom (like Mia) until giving her a healthy relationship with someone willing to be her sons father. I'd like to mention Ashley with Craig and Jimmy always felt so wrong, like nails on a chalkboard. She was just so annoying and had her own issues then to make her goth was cringey as hell!

I really hate the trope of a teen couple gets together only to find out they're going to be step siblings but still try to date. Like one of the couples is going to have to break up and I doubt its gonna be the adults who are already married.

Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra were dating for years before their parents decided to get married. They are married and have 3 children, not including the one they have up for adoption. If anything, it's the parents being selfish in this.

I think Manny & JT were so obviously not gonna make sense that the writers did it on purpose. Manny was looking for something safe after getting hurt. Plus I think it actually replicates lots of high school relationships that are really awkward/one-sided. So I thought it was a good thing to put in the show.

Honestly felt like the writers ran out of things to write about so they forced these unnecessary couples on us. Majority of the couples on the show was cringy. I’m watching it back now that I’m older I’m like woah degrassi took dramatic to a whole different level. These characters was 14-17 going through some stuff I haven’t even experienced and I’m 33 years old lol. They was too of an extreme couple for just for them to be teenagers.

I agree with all your picks for the reasons that you said with a few exceptions. I really think Jake and Clare worked until they tried to keep it going after their parents got married. I can see why they tried to keep it going as long as they did but they should have seen the writing on the wall. Besides the whole cheating on his comatose boyfriend thing I see what they were going for with Miles and Lola. Lola grew as a character and if it weren't for Tristan I could see that relationship working. Sav and Holly J are in my Top 5 Degrassi ships. I loved the carefree, let's just see where this thing goes attitude they had. There were no expectations and the made a great team which I think added to the chemistry. Everyone knew it wasn't forever and the low stakes made everything kinda charming and innocent.
The one thing about Becky and Drew that makes me give it a pass (I don't ship it but I'm not outright disgusted by it) is that it's not uncommon for people to date their dead partner's sibling or another close family member after that person passes. Also they didn't start dating immediately after Adam died, but after some time and forming a friendship. I don't love their relationship, but I didn't care too much that it was happening either. I was more pissed about Clare and Drew being shafted before we got to see them get together.
Claire and Jake made me so uncomfortable. I had to skip through all of those scenes because it made me wanna barf. It reminds me a lot of the relationship between the foster siblings in The Fosters which also made me uncomfortable.
Thank you for talking about Manny and Spinner because they literally had no scenes as a couple and then just broke up. I felt cheated. Especially after all that build up and flirting and that’s what we got. They could have been cute if the writers gave them a chance.

No that's not what happened, his friend charged at JT with a knife which caught him off guard as he wasn't expecting his friend to do that, plus they were both drunk so he probably ran in a state of panic

Marco and Dylan. Like really boring and honestly think Marco could have done better. I feel sad that Riley and Zane never really get brought up, because I feel they were the best m/m relationship on the show. Riley was not the best at the beginning, but Zane (who’s my favorite character on Degrassi) made him a great guy.

I get what you mean about JT/Manny and I do agree with you, but I think that it worked in the show because I know growing up of seeing similar dynamics play out.
I have seen people be in a friend group, be pretty tight, one gets a make-over/glow-up and then someone in their friend group ends up and a friend either confesses of past feelings or feelings end up happening (hormones) or they were just drinking and ended up hooking up and then they date and it's awkward af.
Then there are times where that does turn out to be a good thing and they end up married or whatever, but I know from my own experiences it was more awkward than anything mainly due to it being one sided with physically/emotionally (like a person really wants the sex but not really the baggage that comes with a relationship.)
If you do a part 2 it should include Toby and Liberty, Becky and Jonah, and I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

I'm finally watching Degrassi after years of people praising it's name - and of course obsessing over scene compilations on TH-cam (it's just as good as I thought it was, by the way)! I haven't made it pass season six, but yes, Craig and Ellie was bull-ish (excuse my language). The couple I dislike the most so far, though, is Daryl and Marco.
Daryl cheated, then had the nerve to come back (most likely after he got lonely when he realized his f**k buddies weren't interested in being friends), and tell Marco that everyone Marco would date after him would really be all about him, Daryl! What?! It was giving me some type of emotional, mental, manipulative abuse vibes (whatever it's called). So far he's been neglectful, and has failed to mention that he was planning on moving to Switzerland. Then to see Paige pulling the same emotional roller-coaster nonsense with Alex, I'm like, 'This bull-ish runs in the family!'. Makes me wonder who's the troublemaker amongst the parents, mommy or poppy.

I kind of disagree with some of this. Like with KC and Jenna, that storyline was so vital to their characters, especially Jenna's. I think I was looking at this video more of a why this was written terrible and should have never happened more than relationships like KC and Jenna. Also, I think Imogen's crush was fine but prolly shouldnt have progressed further. Everything else is on point EXCEPT for Sav and Holly J. Imo the chemistry was there and they fit together really well, one of my favorite couples tbh. I think Alli and Drew both grew a lot from their relationship, I think it was needed. I didn't like Jenna or KC separately or together but I feel like their storyline (aside from the adoption) was sooo spot on and accurate to real life. Like Jenna flirted around and wanted KC. KC was dumb and thought Jenna was cute. Then they fooled around and made a mistake but KC never seemed THAT into her, so why would he care about a baby he never wanted with a girl he didn't care for? But like, that's so real and honestly they could've kept the story going with the baby by having them co-parent and be in healthy relationships. Orrrr had KC give up his rights and had Jenna play a single mom (like Mia) until giving her a healthy relationship with someone willing to be her sons father.
I'd like to mention Ashley with Craig and Jimmy always felt so wrong, like nails on a chalkboard. She was just so annoying and had her own issues then to make her goth was cringey as hell!
