    *Time stamps with Filipino translations that give the main point of the video:*
    3:34 - 4:03 "For me I saw that many Korean travelers died here in the Philippines, so I was worried about the peace and order of the Philippine public, but after meeting a lot of good friends, they really changed my thoughts about it" (Para sa akin, nakita ko na maraming Koreanong turista na namatay dito sa Pilipinas, kaya nag-aalala ako sa kapayapaan at kaayusan ng pampublikong lugar ng Pilipinas, pero nang makilala ko ang mga mabubuti kong kaibigan, binago nila ang aking mga unang paningin ko sa bansang ito.)
    8:16 - 8:26 "Before it was just another country to me, but now it feels like it's my second hometown." (Dati isa lang siyang banyagang bansa para sa akin, pero ngayon, parang pangalawang bayan ko na siya.)
    8:45 - 9:11 "I've been here before but at that time, I still felt somehow scared, but now the great people and places changed my mind."
    9:12 - 9:36 "I saw on the news that Korean travelers died here in the Philippines, so I was really worried about the public order here, but after getting to know more through its people, they changed my thoughts." (Nakita ko sa balita na namatay ang mga Koreanong turista dito sa Pilipinas, so nangangamba talaga ako sa kaayusan ng publiko dito sa Pilipinas, pero pagkatapos kong makilala ang bansa na ito nang husto dahil sa mga tao, binago nila ang aking mga unang pagtingin dito.)
    9:53 - 10:13 "[My thoughts] are really different now! Because when I flew here, my mom & friends told me that earthquakes were common and that Korean people died here so it's dangerous. So I was curious as to why the news portrayed the Philippines like that." (Iba na na talaga ang aking mga paningin sa bansa na ito. Bago ako dumating dito, sinabi sa akin ng aking ina at mga kaibigan na madalas ang lindol dito, at may mga Koreanong namatay dito kaya mapanganib ang lugar na ito. Pero ngayon, nagtataka ako kung bakit ganon nilarawan ang Pilipinas ng mga balita sa Korea."
    Again, this video was made to know if the Korean students' perceptions of the Philippines have changed after one month of living and studying in the country under University of Asia and the Pacific's English Language Program. The news clips were just a preface to show how the Philippines was in their minds due to the Korean news.

    • @viareine
      @viareine 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      EL's Planet How can those news clips become a PREFACE OF HOW THE PHILIPPINES WAS when in fact, most Koreans were responsible for killing other Koreans in the Philippines? Shouldn’t it be A MERE ILLUSTRATION OF HOW KOREANS ACT OR BEHAVE IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES? Oh please, just stop. 🙄

    • @elsplanet
      @elsplanet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Morvia Bermudez It’s not a preface of how the Philippines was. It’s a preface to show how the Philippines was *portrayed* by the Korean news to the Koreans. Again. The video is not about the news but about the *change in perceptions* before and after living and studying in the Philippines after 1 month. I made this video to point out how Korean media has instilled fear in the minds of Koreans based on the news reports shown. It’s seen through this video that after actually having experienced the country, their preconceived notions of what the Philippines is has changed with a great part of it being due to the Filipino people they’ve met. We hope you re-watch and understand each and every part of the video since it was not made to hate the Philippines, but to show that not everything you see in mainstream media is right.

      goldenstate warriors I live a bicoastal life in both Manila, Philippines; and Abu Dhabi, UAE. I’ve made videos about living in the middle east and the stigma Filipinos place on the region. Sadly, you’re acting exactly how the Koreans are acting towards the Philippines. The middle east is a safe place to live in as well. Like Korean media towards the Philippines, Philippine media just gives it a bad image showing the bad things that happen to Filipinos here. But once you actually experience living here, you’ll realize how livable and enjoyable life is here as well. ☺️

    I lived in Korea for 6 years. As a Filipino-American I saw how Koreans treated Filipino workers like lower class, called them bad names in Hangul with a smile right in front of their faces. Koreans took advantage of their Filipino kindness. It always made me mad. I was in Cebu/Mactan last month and saw the Korean snobs tell to the locals "are you stupid?" I see locals with hurt pride and I see their faces cringe when Koreans and Chinese insult them and call them low class to their faces. The Korean dramas are popular on TV, so the image of Koreans are very different from when they meet salty Koreans. Last month in the 2 weeks in Cebu/Mactan, I had to confront Koreans tourists almost daily about their treatment of the locals. Once they know I can understand and speak Hangul, I embarrass them right there and make them apologize to the people they insulted. As an athletically large, tall and physically fit Filipino, I have no problem speaking up to Korean and Chinese tourists for their insincerity. I was in a Korean restaurant in Mactan and watched a Korean couple yell and insult the young waitress cooking their food over the charcoal. The manager and everyone was watching but did nothing. I got up and walked over to them and quietly said that if they don't stop acting like children I'll take the guy outside and beat his ass in front of everyone. Everyone thanked me for saying something to them. I used to love Korea and the culture, but when I saw the way they treat non-Koreans, I learned to dislike them more and more. Koreans don't even know the Filipino history of their massive effort during the Korean War. So sad.

    When that one girl said something like, "I don't know why the Korean media had painted the Philippines to be such a dangerous country." I immediately felt sad. Koreans even use being Filipino as an insult. They say things like, "You look like a Filipino." to insult their fellowmen who has a darker skin complexion. It's sad because here in the Philippines we literally admire and embrace their culture. I'm glad that their experience here changed their perception of us and our country, though.

    The killings of South Koreans on Philippines are very low. Is it very concerning that 12 in one year gets killed? .. and it is not done by Filipinos as well. They make it sound like a very dangerous killing massacre in the news :/

    Well about hierarchy we do still follow that inside family's and relatives and for those you want to respect as a person. I'm saying if that older person is rude we can be rude to them too like we dont tolerate crap we fight back if we feel some injustice. Some older persons can be friends with younger to them like 5years+ gaps coz we really hate to be called old person so we try to level down with younger ones. About being confident i can say we are number 1 lols. We (some) like bragging. And our patience are really long. Pilipino's have strong mentality you can't just bully us like we fight back until one will back off.

    Hi guys, I don't blame you if at first TV glance and blurts about Koreans being killed in the Philippines will cautioned you and be hesitant. I, being Pinoy, is also alarming for me even if some killings were perpetrated by Koreans themselves due to some business competitions. These things happened in every nook and cranny of the world. But you guys changed your negative perspective to my country once you immersed yourselves into the culture, though shocked at first. Thanks guys for being truthful to your thoughts, that's one of the many habits or behaviors you already learned from the Pilipinos, to speak openly what's in your minds, because Koreans are reserve and a bit shy or ashamed to speak openly. BTW, did you know about the Pilipino Soldiers who helped and fight for South Korea against North Korea during the Korean War in 1950s? Better check that out, its in YT.

    Iranians & other Arabs have been studying and living in the Philippines since long long ago but they didn't have encountered any big troubles because they just focus only to their respective goal which is schooling alone. We can't see them roaming around in trouble prone areas such red light districts, unlike other foreign nationals that they love traversing anywhere & anytime even in unsafe hours & places, and that's the reasons why many cases of incidents occurred to them while in the Philippines.

    It's good to hear the traditional words "Po" and "Opo" to these Korean people. Hope you guys learn more about the Filipino cultures. And hope someday you feature here about the beautiful places here in the Philippines 🇵🇭. Godspeed!!

    But several of these killings were done by their fellow Koreans too. There were news sometime ago that there are group of Koreans who operate to victimize/scam their countrymen, as their targets.

      Did Korean news only talk about their county men being killed in the Philippines and never told their audience who killed them. There were Koreans killed, yes, but many of them were killed by their fellow Koreans too. We will never harm our tourists unless we are provoked. We are friendly people who can turn into your worst enemy if things go wrong.

      Pagio Artor We only saw a clip from the news not the whole news.I can't blame them because years before, killings were really rampant here. The good thing is that now the number of killings decreased.

    I remembered when I stayed in Korea, a korean man who is the host in the place I stayed in said that those koreans who died in the philippines and those who killed them had something to do with gambling, he said that if they weren’t involved in those things then koreans are safe.
