I could say that's a big "if and when" but the fact is that Russia has never had a 'normal' government.
They played around with freedom of speech and democracy with glasnost and perestroika, which Yeltsin put a stop to and turned Russia into a super presidential republic, a republic where the president holds most if not all of the power, the state duma after Yeltsin was done with the Supreme Soviet, had only symbolic power really and he put Putin in place. They went from communism, to stagnation, to kinda playing with the idea of a free society, to Yeltsin creating the Russian republic as the functional preamble to a dictatorship, which we have seen over the last 24 years of Putin in power.

    Good video kid.
Back in the '70s. Long story short I got to know a Russian defector from the old Soviet Union.
He used to tell me that now he was living in the west he knew more about what was going on inside the Soviet Union than he did when he was living there.
Back in the day he'd tell me it wasn't just that you couldn't trust the government or the cops. You couldn't trust your neighbors. Maybe not even your own family.
You couldn't trust anybody. In the days of the Soviet Union you never knew who would turn you in and you'd end up in the gulag.
Maybe even for some random statement you made one night at dinner.

It's a shame because I always wanted to visit Russia. I was always amazed by how they were considered the most backwards country and then did stuff like put the first man in space. Peter the Great is one of my favorite historical personalities; I like how he had his child army as a kid and how he went to Europe pretending to be a member of his own entourage and how he was a Meyers Briggs INTJ, among a host of other reasons. The story of him sharing the throne with his brother for a while is fascinating, and all that stuff with his sister and where she ended up. The tragedy or how he treated his son. Eudoxia. His African slave who became a General in his army and whose quarter African grandson became Pushkin, Russia's Shakespeare. So, I wanted to go visit St. Petersburg.
Obviously I needed to go to Volgograd because of World War 2. Plus, Russia I wanted to see in general because it is the former USSR and I think it'd be cool to see the remnants of an empire that they thought was really going to be the center of the world. But, I can't go now because it's run by total paranoids.
If they put their own folks in jail, even if they are Z, then what will the do with me, an American? I doubt if I'll ever get to go and it's a shame because it was literally the number one place I wanted to visit, but I really can't see it ever being safe enough to do so in the next twenty years. They're just too capricious with their laws. Anything can happen. And does.

      Easy:
The Russian people are NOT backwards. They never were.
They are more or less identical to normal ordinary Europeans (okay Asians if you are east of the ural mountains)
The country itself and the government are the ones that are backwards most of the time.
Basically they are the only ones that are backwards.
So what do you need to do to make sure that your ordinary citizens *don't* start asking questions why all of their tax money is constantly disappearing into Moscow and St. Petersburg for several countries nonstop without any real improvement in the rural country side ?
*Yes, you need to explain to them that Russia is once again attacked and needs to defend itself and the hardship will only be temporary*
So they will stop asking questions
And if they still think about asking questions:
-->State sponsored propaganda, which is the only allowed form of information.
      +
      Brutal Oppression.
Tell me how many countries fire at their own parliament with tanks ? After almost firing at their own parliament a few years before during an attempt purge 🙈
Name one other world power where a purge is still a realistic scenario for a change or government
      (Attempted prigozhin Coup in 2023)
So the only backwards people in russia are the ones in the Kremlin.
The other ones are just complacent or just don't have a clue what is really going on in their country. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Oh and btw. The will probably imprison you for ransom, like they did with other western people before.
So you need to wait for the next Gorbatchev guy to appear.
(not in an economy sense but in a peaceful behavior sense)
      But right now .
They will immediately arrest you just to force the US to realize someone from a US prison that Russian wants to return to Russia.

Year if you doing business in Russia you are a criminal by default and totally dependent on a goodwill of government related authorities. That’s by design if just can’t obey the laws and feel secure. You are forced to be a “criminal” to stay on a hook forever. Any business activity can be viewed as a “fraud” if they want.

Thing is, Russia should and could be insanely wealthy. It should and could have one of the highest standards of living in the world given that it has by far the largest reserves of highly valuable natural resources in the world. They have abundance of every essential, however unfortunately it also has an abundance of corruption at all levels of society, particularly at the top, which is why the majority of Russians are left to rot on the breadline and the majority of the country is a crumbling wreck.
The UK, by contrast, doesn't have an abundance of anything other than financial institutions and lawyers. The UK is a real mess, primarily because of political impotence and ineptitude but also because of arrogance and complacency. The country has been on the decline for 15 years or so now but that decline has really sharpened since the 2016 referendum where 51% of the population voted to abolish reality in favour of a fairytale.
Neither country is living up to its potential, however the UK is far more dependent on the charity of others than Russia is, which is a major contributing factor to why Russia does and is able to behave in the deranged way it does.

My country colonized some african countries back in the day, until they revolted and we eventualy left in 1974-1975. It is funny that Putin has the same mindset and reasoning as our dictator did back then. Its crazy how putin is actualy 50 years behind us at this point both in thought and in mindset.
And for those blaming the russian citizens, dont. Its hard for a citizen to do anything other than accept whatever a dictator says or does if you are fed propaganda from the moment you are born all the way till u reach adulthood. If a change is to happen, it has to be the military doing it, citizens really do have no choice but to go along since they have been stripped of all power (and liberty in that sense tbh).
