I like the styling of the GR86, much better looking than the 1st gen Toyota 86, and the Supra style duck tail spoiler on the Premium trim makes it look even better. Could Use a bit more power, maybe adding about 100 hp would have been better. Styling would be an 8 out of 10, power would be about 4 or 5 out of 10, otherwise it is a nice overall car though.
I have a first gen so I am just jealous, I will say I do like the general body shape of the old body, not a huge fan of how it looks other than the duck tail, front fenders, and side skirts
8 or 8.5. It lacks on power, but you can make less powerful cars fun. And being that it's less powerful, you can hone your skills better. It's great to have power, so long as you can use it properly! Driver mods like you said😌
All these years later we still find the need to explain this car. It's a driver's car nearly anyone can have, plain and simple. It has just enough of everything to have fun but most importantly it connects the driver to the machine and the road its treading upon in a very engaging way. They didn't put money in HP and gadgets, it went into a chassis and suspension geometry that puts it in the same class as more expensive cars. The car was also made for tuners to provide a capable and clean canvas to start from. I am so glad they decided to give this platform a new generation and continued support in a time that would make little sense to do so.
Sounds perfect to me. A platform to get into and gradually make enhancements and huge amounts of learning on the way. Very attractive and unique. Also sounds like a little version of the Supra.
I’ve had the new brz since the end of December and honestly love everything about this car. The way it handles the way it looks and the way you can easily shift through gears is great. I’ll give it a 9/10. Only thing I don’t like is the cup holder placements and how there is really no where to put your phone
I have a 2022 brz automatic and I HATE the PCB (pre collision break) you have to turn it off every time you get in the car. I like to swerve in traffic and don’t get me wrong the car is great for turning but when I don’t turn off PCB it auto breaks when I get close to a car to swerve.. it also keeps telling me there’s an obstacle ahead which I AM aware of.. also the seatbelt chime is annoying but everything else is great!
I've had my GR86 PREMIUM for about a week. I love it. Only things I really dislike on it is the fact that it is insanely quiet while stock. The sound system is also not the best. Other than that I love.
I am a 1st gen GT86 owner, and i got behind the wheel of a 22 BRZ from a dealership close to me. I fell in love with the driving experience and would love to get my hands on a GR86, tho im not able to afford one right now, and it makes me appreciate my GT86 more in a way, these cars are special to me, just make me think about why i fell in love with them in the first place, and it all started bc of the AE86. Like i always say, you don't need a lot of power to have fun 🚘
The GR86 has a more “drifty” suspension and the BRZ has a more “tight through corner” feel. The GR has a more jumpy throttle body whereas the BRZ’s throttle has a more linear response. There are a lot of more differences between the two then most people think.
The difference in the throttle that you just described is just the different tunes which is pretty easy to change. The biggest difference is that the rear sway bar is attached to the sub frame on the Toyota but it attaches to the body on the Subaru, giving them the different feelings in the corners. Other than that I'm pretty sure all the differences are cosmetic.
I'm getting a GR86 as an "upgrade" from my motorcycle - so having a heater and A/C, a stereo, cruise control, room for some groceries, and a comfortable seat seems like the height of luxury to me.

I've talked to a ton of dealers in the last few days and that's actually how these cars are selling. Oh boy I've had my manual gr86 in track red since Jan 5th. Wanted this car for 6 years and finally can afford it. It's amazing and keep watching y'all's vids on wheels cuz I got to get some good ones.
I'm a little biased towards the first gen 86/brz but I wait to test drive one of these. This gen is slowly growing on me and when some units become available to test I'm taking it for a whirl for sure.
Stop with the turbo nonsense. I chose this car exactly because it doesn't have one. It's naturally aspirated, manual, rear wheel drive, pure car. That's what this car is all about, driving purity.
10/10 the GR86 is reviving the rear wheel drive, 4 cylinder sports car model that I fell in love with in the 90s. It isn't super fast, which is fine, because it's not supposed to be. It's bare bones which allows you to take it in the direction that you want. This will be a coveted vehicle a few years from now. EDIT: I grew up driving a Nissan 240SX fastback. And I was really hoping Nissan would revive the line. But I am happily awaiting my GR86s arrival.
9/10 I’ve had mine for about a month now, easily the most fun car I’ve ever driven. The way it corners and powers through with that linear NA powerband is amazing. Only thing I dislike is the cup holder placement
I'd say the new 86 gets a good 8/10. There's nothing wrong with it as it is, but I think it could have been made better with a typical inline four layout for the sake of weight savings, and replacing the Macpherson struts in the front with dual wishbones. Plus, especially considering the original AE86 had both a coupe and liftback form, I was hoping for a liftback version of the new one. But those are all pretty major changes that had no real chance, so I'm perfectly happy with what we got.
I think it’s a 10, it’s gonna be good on gas, maintenance shouldn’t be too bad, it’s RWD (relatability), you’re gonna have amazing customer service from either Subaru or Toyota, and Theres gonna be sooooo many body kits and interior stuff I can’t wait!!!
Power is actually around 250hp (210ish to the wheels) and almost 200ftlb of torque. Can easily get it to 300hp without boost with a good exhaust, tune and E85. Buddy I know with a BRZ 2022 got 277hp at the wheels with those exact mods which cost him less than $1000 and was able to cut the 0-60 time by around 1 second but he also has better tires and suspension.
I’d give these a 9.8. These are really really good cars, I think they look really good, not to say that the previous gens looked bad what so ever I thought they also look very beautiful both in their own ways. They have have perfect interiors, good textures at certain touch points, not overdone, not a giant head unit up in the drivers field of view, no gimmicky haptic feedback buttons, available 6-speed, and I got to give Toyota and Subaru props for making a great car still with a stick and also this thing drive very very good according to journalists and a lot of pro drivers and car review TH-camrs. Great car
If you are seriously considering this car in hopes that you’ll be able to turbo charge, I highly suggest waiting to see how the aftermarket turns out! I can guarantee you that this FA24 is not the same as the turbo variant’s found in the new wrx and the old/new ascent’s wait until someone does a tear down of the engine and identifies the weaknesses of this new platform. Nothing sucks more than buying into a new Platform that is DOA because you can’t do anything to increase power
I test drove an auto Neptune premium at the dealer, then found a dealer a few states away that had someone back out of a gr86 premium manual in trueno blue. It arrives to port tomorrow so should have it in just a few weeks. Super pumped
Almost got one of these but I'm holding out till the end of this year for the GR Corolla, I need that extra cargo and seating space it offers vs the GR86 which is non existent
been an owner since mid February. After the first week and a Vegas trip for SoCal, i put an Invidia N2 and Invidia Catless front pipe on. another week passed and i put BC BR coils all around. been driving it like this for a few weeks already, only cause pink gram lights don't look too hot with the square 18x9.5 on 225/45/18. So far loving the car; it's functionally low, sounds fricken great, and loved learning how to drive manual in it. I loved driving my 2017 86 AT with all the same mods and driving experience has really changed from last gen to current. 9.8/10 -.2 no turbo and waiting on EL Headers + Flex Fuel kits
They're planning to put the 1.6-liter, three-cylinder, G16E-GTS turbocharged engine from the gr corolla into it so it might come turbocharged after all.
I switch from a Porsche Cayman to the GR86 & I actually like it better. The GR86 has more creature comforts and does several things better than the Porsche and is only about 1-1.5 seconds slower in acceleration only. I also don’t have to sell my first born in order to make any mods or repairs.
Lets go! Glad to see a lot of people are switching from what everyone considers prestige brands. Definitely going to be a lot of support coming! -Edgar
If only the GR86 were actually available it would be the no-brainer. Here in the SF Bay Area, my order that I placed in January won't be here until JANUARY 2023! Dealers around here have been saying that there has been zero of them coming in since the start of this year.
Somewhere on the planet, right now, as we read this comment section. There is a kid bashing the gr86 and BRZ complaining about the power. No driver's license... but his plan is to 2JZ swap his mother's minivan and slap on some Te37s. Never mind according to his post, his parents are going to help him import an R34 and he knows a guy that's going to help him get Cali plates.
@@FitmentIndustries It's the least I could do. In exchange for all the quality videos you guys post. Is put a smile on your face, I'm glad you saw the humor. Stay blessed and prosperous guys 💯
Couldn't agree more about the rear end. I myself also was a little (meh) about the rear, It looked alright? yet no? but yea it kinda worked? but?..... and so on. But after a while, It grew on me.
Video didn’t mention the engine being underrated.. Toyota/Subaru says it makes 228hp, but dynos are literally reading 222whp…this engine is actually making 250hp. Which puts in it in 2.0L Supra/WRX territory…hence why Toyota/Subaru had to underrate the hp number. Also, Car & Driver’s official 0-60mph time for a stock GR86 is 5.4 secs, noticeable difference for people who think it takes a full 6.0 secs.
I think the car is a masterpiece it’s refreshing to see somebody build A true sports car that is affordable you don’t need turbos and 600 hp to have fun like he said you need to learn the car and they look awesome slammed with rims omg the possibilities are endless with this car the key thing is it’s a affordable NA RWD sport car with a stick 🙏
just put a deposit down on an 86. They wanted 10K over sticker, I got them down to 3K over. Wouldn't be buying a new car if I hadn't gotten t-boned by an illegal with no license who the cops let go with a verbal warning. Times are nuts. Stay away from CA if you can.
In my Opinion, I'll go with BRZ anytime any generation. Because it's genuine and it's in it's blood, The Boxer. GT86/GR 86 is just a Rebadged and slightly cosmetic changed BRZ.
Kinda funny, some people call the BRZ the more rebadged of the two considering that it was Toyota's idea to build a RWD sports car and that Subaru initally didn't want to get involved with this.
This and the Inline-4 Mustang are the modern day Nissan Silvia (Mustang), and AE86 (GR86). This is good. Our kids will be buying these off of CoPart and fixing them to have an affordable sportscar to enjoy.
I purchased a BRZ in WR Blue the last week of December (the only one that my smaller town dealer got). Car is amazing and makes me smile every time that I get behind the wheel. Only have 400 miles on mine because of weather. Cannot wait to be able to drive mine more regularly! Love the Fitment wheels that are available. I am going to order a new set. What disappoints me tho is that there’s still ppl that are gonna hate on these cars just because their not fast. They’re fun to drive and they look good. The hate doesn’t make sense to me🤷🏻♂️
Honestly looking at buying this as my proper next new car in 3-4 years. It's a manual, non-turbo, coupe; a last one of it's kind. Yeah a turbo means more power, it also means more issues & maintenance down the line; an NA car is just nice.
My 2023 BRZ is amazing in all respects, between my 981 PDK boxster and BRZ manual I really have the best of both worlds of naturally aspirated engines that are fun to drive on the streets and on the race track. The only thing I don't like about my new BRZ is the road noise mostly on the freeway.
Personally I love them. Gives me real 370Z vibes with the bubbly butt. Aftermarket wheels on them look incredible, but even stock they look really good. Proud of them right now
This will be one of the last japanese rwd coupes with a combustion engine and a manual transmission. I’d rather have an S2000 but I really appreciate this car
The new BRZ is better in every way. It has more power (even more than Subaru states, 245hp more realistically), it is more comfortable, it rides better, it's nicer on the inside, and has more premium features like LED headlights and tail lights. The only down sides are the slightly reduced steering feel, lower MPG, and no spare tire. Outside of that, it's a pretty significant upgrade over the first gen.
10/10!!!!!!! I had a 2002 Celica GT 5 speed......which was only 140ish horsepower and front wheel drive.....and it was A BLAST to drive so I have no idea why anyone would be unhappy with 228 HP, rear wheel drive and another gear!! I can't wait to see what TJ Hunt and his Streethunter brand has coming out soon for these!!!
It looks way better than the previous version. It looks like it filled out, like if the first gen BRZ/FRS was a teenager that went to college and grew into its body.
Anyone looking to buy this car and can’t test drive, it is significantly quicker than the 1st gen. It is very tail happy! Perfect for anyone getting into drifting or modifying. Great daily driver, Has a lot of “new car features” if you do track this car your first mod will be brakes. Anyone over 6’5” 280+ should look for a bigger car. When ever I get out of it and walk into a store I always look back at it and say.. damn that’s a fine car, totally worth the price but anything over msrp is a rip off. If you find a brz for msrp and want the 86 and there’s an 86 with a 15k mark up you’re paying for a $15,000 bumper styling.
GR86 is tops on my list for my next purchase to replace my daily driver. It will definitely be peppier than what I daily right now. I miss shifting and I've not had that ability for over 3 years.

Maybe the next variation! Never know. -Edgar
There’s definitely going to be a lot of support for this platform. -Edgar
Really want one in Neptune blue its so clean
Why was that Toonami and Adult Swim thing so fucking relatable LMAO
I figure as long as they can get some in stock and continue, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be more successful than the first gen.
A lot of people are enjoying the new platform, only a matter of time! -Edgar
I ordered mine like 2 weeks ago, eagerly awaiting a call from the dealership saying its ready for pickup!
Let’s gooo! Let’s party! -Edgar
How much u pay?
Good insight to look at! -Edgar
I test drove an auto Neptune premium at the dealer, then found a dealer a few states away that had someone back out of a gr86 premium manual in trueno blue. It arrives to port tomorrow so should have it in just a few weeks. Super pumped
Hell yeah! 💪💪💪 you're going to have a blast! -Edgar
I would 10/10 love to get one but at the moment I'm stuck between should I wait or should I get a 1st gen with face lift 🤩
Get the 22 for sure. The new car is nicer in every way. Its also faster than the last gen even with full bolt ons and e85 tune.
Get the new one to directly support the analogue car. Because its days are numbered.
There's a whole intelligently and well explained video on why the BRZ doesn't need a turbo that's been out for a long time.
Almost got one of these but I'm holding out till the end of this year for the GR Corolla, I need that extra cargo and seating space it offers vs the GR86 which is non existent
Same, let’s see what happens with the Corolla! -Edgar
good luck getting one for MSRP
been an owner since mid February.
9.8/10
-.2 no turbo and waiting on EL Headers + Flex Fuel kits
That'll be sick once you complete the build! Keep us updated. -Edgar
-Edgar
86 for looks, brz for its NOT REUSED OR CARRIED OVER engineering and frame
If only the GR86 were actually available it would be the no-brainer. Here in the SF Bay Area, my order that I placed in January won't be here until JANUARY 2023! Dealers around here have been saying that there has been zero of them coming in since the start of this year.
Ooff.. that’s frigging rough! Hopefully they address that. -Edgar
😂😂😂😂😂 this is a great tale I appreciate. -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries It's the least I could do. In exchange for all the quality videos you guys post. Is put a smile on your face, I'm glad you saw the humor.
Stay blessed and prosperous guys 💯
🤝🤝🤝 -Edgar
Couldn't agree more about the rear end.
I myself also was a little (meh) about the rear, It looked alright? yet no? but yea it kinda worked? but?..... and so on.
But after a while, It grew on me.
Grows on everyone! -Edgar
This is good insight to have! Thank ya! -Edgar
The back end look exactly like my 2015 accord coupe.
Got my 2022 brz 3 months ago from today. I love it! I owned a 2017 before and the really improved the formula. The looks really grew on me over time.
Glad to hear that homie! 💪💪 -Edgar
One of the best decisions I made, came from a heavy old suv and this is night and day
Any plans for it or anything done so far? -Edgar
After driving one, I’m 100% sold on them
So when are you picking yours up?! -Edgar
FYI Zenki: Pre facelift 2013-2016, Kouki: After facelift 2017-2021, Shingata: New type 2022+.
just put a deposit down on an 86.
I don't want one, but I like watching Fitment.
Ayeee thanks homie! 🙏🏽 -Edgar
This and the Inline-4 Mustang are the modern day Nissan Silvia (Mustang), and AE86 (GR86). This is good. Our kids will be buying these off of CoPart and fixing them to have an affordable sportscar to enjoy.
We shall see what happens! Only time will tell. -Edgar
Great video and thanks for posting.
Lets go! You know where to find us, and if you need some inspiration, we have the gallery as you know! 👌👌👌 -Edgar

One of the best things about this car. Is how easy it is to do your own oil changes.
That’s good news! -Edgar
I liked because the intro was just about the most relatable thing there was
What disappoints me tho is that there’s still ppl that are gonna hate on these cars just because their not fast. They’re fun to drive and they look good. The hate doesn’t make sense to me🤷🏻♂️
Just elitism within people, it’s okay! They can stay in their world of what they like best. 🙂 -Edgar
you should talk one of the boys into getting one of these so we can get some more content
Maybe one baco tell and hot sauce shots night with Dakota might convince me otherwise.. 👀😂 -Edgsr
Honestly looking at buying this as my proper next new car in 3-4 years.
It's a manual, non-turbo, coupe; a last one of it's kind.
Yeah a turbo means more power, it also means more issues & maintenance down the line; an NA car is just nice.
Imagine a turbo on this new Brz/86 😮 it’s gonna be so light and so fast. Probably 400hp easily 👏🏼🥶
I’m in the process of buying one of these, and I’m stoked as it’s my first budget sports car
Good luck! Where you able to find one somewhere that wasnt crazy sold out then im assuming?! -Edgar
Owned one since early January and with 5k on it already, easy 10/10.
Ayeee, any big plans for it? -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Got some ideas but nothing concrete except some Enkei Kojins in the future
Personally I love them. Gives me real 370Z vibes with the bubbly butt. Aftermarket wheels on them look incredible, but even stock they look really good. Proud of them right now
fun fact this new gen 86's engine is underrated. most people are seeing around 215whp stock which is close to the same power as the 2.0t supra
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 more room for improvement! -Edgar
my man edgar really out here answering everyone's comments 👀
Aye wassup! It’s a good time, keeps the time moving. 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 haha -Edgar
This will be one of the last japanese rwd coupes with a combustion engine and a manual transmission. I’d rather have an S2000 but I really appreciate this car
I got a World Rally Blue BRZ in January. Go get one because they’re stellar and make sure it’s a stick!
Aiming to get one in November!!
I think this video does a great job explaining what you getting into with the car.
Thanks homie! Appreciate the support, good luck! -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustrieshaha so it took me a while and I finally got mines! Picked it up this Friday! 2024 model!
Do you already have one or got to drive one? -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Had a 2016 for about 3 years, Have had my 2022 for about a month and a half. Ordered it 10/23, received it 2/11.
Everyone is just making moves on them, excited to see what pops up in our gallery! -Edgar
Alex, please never stop contributing content on Fitment Industries channel.
🍩🍩🍩 -Edgar
It looks way better than the previous version. It looks like it filled out, like if the first gen BRZ/FRS was a teenager that went to college and grew into its body.
This is the best car of 2022 so far, only thing they lack is Pop Up Headlights
The pop ups would set it off for sure! -Edgar
Cheers to Engineering Explained. 👊🏼
It’s be dope if you could just walk up and buy or order one of these without paying $40k.
That would be the dream!.. but ya know. Supply and demand.. 🥲🥲 -Edgar
Ordered mine two months ago was told 5-6 months till the allocation. This is some of the longest months of my life lol
Will be worth the wait! -Edgar
ive never related to a toonami reference so hard in my life.
Bruh when I saw all that the memories flooded in. Great times on toonami and adult swim haha. -Edgar
Bought one and I am a fan. 9/10
GR86 is tops on my list for my next purchase to replace my daily driver. It will definitely be peppier than what I daily right now. I miss shifting and I've not had that ability for over 3 years.
Gen 2 is definitely worth it
The only new car that I haven’t seen with a $10k dealer markup
Owned my gr86 for 2 months now. Love it so much 😍
Ayeee, anything done to it?! Make sure to add to the gallery if it’s done up! -Edgar

I have a 2022 brz it’s the best car I ever had never had a Subaru and this car is so much fun !
