The skylines, rx7s, supras, and nsx had to adhere to the gentlemans agreement and made up for the power short comings with making a platform that handled well. Having a used FRS as my first car has been amazing so far! It never fails to put a smile on my face on a bendy road, and the lower horsepower number keeps me out of trouble when riding around town. I couldn't really ask for more out of the car. The people that complain about the lack of power have never driven it properly. When my friends and I go for a spirited drive, they are merely a dot in my rear-view mirror on bendy backroads. If you ever get the chance to take one of these cars for a spin, it is totally worth it.
I've had my FRS for 4 years now. I STILL get compliments on it every day. I've paid it off and people still think its some fancy new car. I've gotten another much faster car, and I still prefer driving this one around most of the time. I'm 100% keeping this car until the wheels fall off. I bought the 2018 '86' last year and as a big Celica fan, I found this beast to be an excellent ride! No it isn't the fastest car in its class, but these cars are not for straight lines they are for track work and given that these engines can get up to 800Hp, if you want more power output you can just be prepared to pay for it.
Eyyyy 2013 FRS guy here. My VIN# just barely squeaked out of the recall ranges. Still going strong :D No valve spring issues, no blowy uppy motor, nothing. It's like a little family. Every single time I see someone in one of these cars we wave, or we flash lights, whatever. They also look great cruising as a crew. The car has character in loads. Ask an FRS/BRZ owner where his rattle is, and you'll get a different answer every single time. Mine went from inside my driver door to the dash to the passenger door and now is somewhere between the rear window and my trunk. Nope, not a power car, but it does sound absolutely mint with the MXP Comp RS catback I have on there. Actually, since the OFT tune to take out the torque dip, and the tiny power increase from a larger intake, it is a lot more peppy in the lower RPMs. But even with it having low power, once you cross the 4k RPM line it becomes a lot more fun. It's like the car has two personalities - below 4k RPM it's this benign little cruising car that just likes looking cool, but after that 4k line it sort of wakes up and wants to go fast. Just don't be an asshole in this car because it really doesn't have the balls. I do find some people really can be idiots around the car though. Like you'll get people that want to show you up and blast by or tailgate you or whatever, meanwhile you're just out going to Walmart enjoying your car. Everyone else in my experience though absolutely loves the car, ESPECIALLY non-car people. A few simple visual mods and people will talk to you endlessly at gas stations and such that have zero idea about the car scene but dig your car specifically. My favorite so far being some dude coming out of a grocery store, handing me a beer, cracking his open, pointing at the car, saying cheers, and walking off. Be ready for the attention from the general public. People stare at it once you start modding it. I dropped mine by a few inches, added some wheels, stanced them flush with the body, replaced all the lighting with color matched LEDs and HIDs, blacked EVERYTHING out, and literally every light or corner or parking lot people stare at it. Sometimes you'll enjoy the attention, sometimes you'll hate it because you modded it for yourself, but on the whole it's worth it.
I got a 350z, but recently I went to go test drive a GT86. It was crazy fun. It may not have close to the same power in comparison, but it still handles and drives like you're going fast. And with TC off the rear end feels like it's just begging to go sideways. I would definitely get one if I didn't already have my Z :)
Just bought one as a reliable sports car/daily driver for to and from work and I absolutely love it! Gets great fuel economy and the mods to do to them are virtually endless!
I love my FRS. My wife bought me a first year model the summer they were first released. Man, she spoiled me. I had wanted one when I first saw them, but never imagined owning one. They turn super well, are fun to drive, and I got so many compliments. It was definitely a car I really wanted, and almost 11 years later, I still love getting in and driving.
I've had a BRZ for a year now, haven't done any mods yet because I'm still trying to learn about the car and what it can handle. However, I must say the BRZ is an incredible ride.
Idk if it was a maxima or altima but it was a v6 and it kept up. We werent racing but i was flooring it and he was behind me chasing. Im pretty sure he would have beaten me.

@@JBC1154 oh yea that was on a stock tune. Im on e85 right now and i think it would walk it slowly but im not sure. E85 makes this car feel proper. I do have a turbo waiting to be installed on this car so im excited to see what 330whp will feel like.
My favourite thing about being a BRZ guy is the variety of styles people go with. There's stancy bois, drifty bois, serious racecar bois, engine swapped drag cars, the odd rally build, and some old dudes that keep it stock and never drive it hoping it'll be a collectable some day, and the car generally does all of those things pretty well when the mods are done right. Also most of the people are super friendly. I actually ended up getting my first career job as an indirect result of a guy knocking on my window to tell me he has the same car as me.
I had the 1st ever Toyota Special Edition 860. Production model #1 out of 860 in Halo White. I have uploaded and submitted my one of a kind car to your gallery. This was the car that also introduced the dumb “Noise enhancing Intake tube” the one that goes from the intake into your fire wall. To “Enhance” the engine sound......it’s also unfiltered intake air. And has an intake muffler, intake debris trap and corrugated intake tubing. The first and only RWD Subaru. Instant classic. A boxer motor for a lower center of gravity over the front tires. Creating the coolest site out the windshield, the hood design. The hood is prone to twisting and flexing. I wouldn’t get a carbon fiber hood unless you also plan on getting hood pins too. The stock hood when driving I saw flex in the corner of my eye a lot which is a distraction and poor for racing. I installed flush mount hood latches. Looked amazing. They used OEM holes in the hood skeleton so not cutting the structurer of the hood. Looked Factory. They never changed the design or performance of the oil pump. Which aerates the oil when you go over 7K RPM. It has MacPherson struts. Which is an ugly suspension set up. But somehow managed to build a car that despite its poor quality handling characteristics. Out performs the rest on race tracks. Imagine what they could have done with SLA. If you want to gain the perfect performance platform. FT86 Open flash tuning tablet. Get Perrin or better Intake tubes and delete the stupid stuff. Delete the catalytic converter, no high flow just get rid of it. The emissions are already so low that you will still pass in California. Get a lightweight flywheel (unless you plan on using a sprintex/edlebrock supercharger) 17lbs is fine, but you can go as Low as 10 but then you have other drivability and wear concerns to worry about later. Get the one piece Aluminum/Carbonfiber drive shaft. The weight saves on your drivetrain will make for the most remarkable driving experience and greatly improve performance. Brakes. Go big or go home (Brakes only slow you down anyway) suspension stock works well but I recommend the cheapest you should go is eibach no cheaper if you’re replacing. Increase Swaybar stiffness and then get better bushing. Tahdah the perfect 86/BRZ for under $2000 in mods. P.S. if you have a 2017 or newer model. You’re obligated to replace every light with LED. The head lights, tail lights, and fog lights are done for you. So you need as follows: Interior Dome, Interior Door (bottom corner), Side Marker, Trunk, Reverse, Plate, 4th Brake Lights. Would you like to know more?
I still remember the first time I heard about this car and loved the concept of a light RWD car that compares to a miata. Definitely one of the best looking cars and are very fun but if only they came off the line with a turbo... if only.
As a 2013 FRS owner, bought brand new, this is the car that wanted when I was 21. Now that I'm nearly 67, she is still the car I want to drive. I grew up in a 1968 Coronet R/T, so if you want speed, buy speed. Let's talk about unique, save tires (Mich PSS) and TRD brake pads, mine's stock (50k+ miles). Almost forgot the US 129 Dragon sticker on the driver's side rear window. That's my list of mods, might think about finding another 30 HP and little more torque, but that would be all she needs. This a very fun car to drive on a winding road.
EVERYTHING has been done? I lived out of my BRZ for about 6 months in a parking lot, road tripped with it, car camped at national parks, tracked it, and daily commute with it. SOOOOOOoooooo :DDD
Perhaps after college and once you had a decent job, you'll be owning the car in no time bro! Best of luck in making your dream of owning this car possible! 💪🏻

chadwick mason just about the right price for 13/14 models. 15/16 will fetch a decent more but your paying peace of mind bugs have been worked out. The earlier models had some minor bugs on some of there batches.
they're some very good looking cars and the mod ability is fantastic! took one for a test drive a few years ago and was very impressed with the factory package, it's a great platform to start with.
Honestly, I got the FR-S as a first car. The thing is perfect on all levels such as insurance, and liability. The only thing is if you buy them, expect to be throwing your paychecks away on modifications. You just look at it and think “hmmm well I can make that better”. So (BEWARE)!!
I love my FRS. I didn't want all the power but a better car than my old TC. I also love the look and sound of the car. If they keep making it, in a couple more years I'll get a newer model of the same car.
Love working on my FR-S. Flipped all the internal harnesses to that of a 2017 BRZ with door Harnesses from Japan for the power fold-in side mirrors. Love the amount of support you can find...well anywhere. You may not be a one off in the world, but you can make an imprint depending where you live.
Showed up in my feed so: I own a 2016 BRZ (bought new) and liked the car as both a daily driver and occasional track use. BUT after I installed the Edelbrock Supercharger kit (easy install!) and had DD Performance in Texas tune it (gets 287 HP) it's AWESOME and what the car was supposed to be. I kept the car 'stealth' externally so it's not cop bait. Went with wider wheels and tires, race brake pads n fluid and some suspension mods. Note: I could have gone with E85 too for even more HP but since so many people seem to have 'rapid unintended engine disassembly' with rod breakage going over 300HP I stayed with the more easily available 93 octane and the power is "just right"
I bought my Toyota 86 for one reason only... Ok one big reason, it loves the turns. It hugs the road. It is one of the best handling for the price point. All the other things I love about it are gravy.
I love my FRS for the aftermarket, my brother loves his stock, my buddy loves his for the stance life, my wife on the other and is one of those people who says it's under powered and shes much happier driving a mustang.
Awesome video! I absolutely love my FR-S! have had it for a year and a half, and it's still stock. Starting to make a little more at my job, so now I'll be able to pursue some mods! Super excited! XD

I bought a 2015 FR-S in “Asphalt”. Traded it for a 2017 86 in “Halo”. Then traded that for a 2019 86 TRD SE! I call the first two my “Training Cars” for the TRD SE. it’s time to bolt on some more power!!! I am very happy with the platform because it’s like driving a go-cart! But, it still needs more power! Another 80 to 100 horses would make the driving experience so much more fun!!! Love to be able to Smoke everyone that wants to play!
I’m picking up a 2017 series. yellow BRZ this Monday with only 2,000 miles on it. I love this car for what it is. A canyon carver that you can comfortably push to the limit. Very excited!!
what I like most about my 86 is how easy it is to get it sideways and how predictable it is, all the way up to 10/10 driving. Even when the whole car is sliding sideways, it’s still insanely easy to manage. Many cars go like this: nearly there, nearly there, nearly there, HOLY SHIT I’M IN A DITCH! The 86 is like: Nearly there, nearly there, definitely there now, wow, how much more can I get out of this? beyond there, still smiling, push harder, wow, that was easy, still on the road.
Love my 2016 FRS. Over the years, definitely have modified it. Currently have 18" Enkei Kojins on super sports. Valenti tail lights, TRD exhaust, and a bunch of other interior/exterior mods. Just ordered an OFT v2, gonna flash to a stage 1 93 octane tune fairly soon!
My frs has been great for me pushing 60k miles now got it at 40k not a single issue yet that hasn't been covered under warranty. Knock on wood... Lol it's a fun quick car mine is still stock and still fun to drive, just not gonna smoke anyone like he says in the video the numbers are kinda weak but it's still a super fun car to drive and has room for improvement with mods.
Dang son, i have a stock early (march) 2013 and never taken it back for the recalls. 65k km not problem. so fun, thought this would be a neat video to watch and look at what the community thinks of this thing nearly 7 years into it
I've owned a 2017 86 now for 3 years, absolutely love the car. Haven't done too many mods but honestly the car doesn't need a ton (and I'm poor), but I didn't buy it to go fast in a straight line, I bought to get sideways and maybe go fast doing it lol. This car is a drift beast, and the depreciation on them is pretty decent so this is, I'd say, the "next 240SX" in a way.
I've done zero, zip, nada to this car, it's fast enough for normal traffic (unless you want to track) and it still makes me smile when I apply some deliberate oversteer and put down throttle at 25-30mph :D
I've watched videos here and there about these cars but recently REALLY got into them, the differences (BRZ ftw, and I'm a Toyota guy), if they make a good daily, snow, etc, and this is THE best video I have come across. You kept it short, sweet, and most importantly engaging. You KILLED it on presentation as well. I look forward to watching your future videos. Keep up the great work! PS the white BRZ at 7:47 is boosted, correct? I like the black one on the track after it.
What think he forgot to include. Is that it's a jdm car with enough driver room for a tall guy like me. I'm on my second brz now and i love that i didn't have to modify the seats on either to be comfy.
"they may not be the fastest care in the market", couldn't be more true. It's the skyline look that gives it its attraction. It's sad to see the same car driven around the city every 10 minutes.
Tbh, I do have a unique variant of the BRZ/FRS/GT86 triplets. Its the 2017 Series Yellow BRZ. In the 2 years I've had it, I have never seen another series yellow in person.

I bought the 2018 '86' last year and as a big Celica fan, I found this beast to be an excellent ride! No it isn't the fastest car in its class, but these cars are not for straight lines they are for track work and given that these engines can get up to 800Hp, if you want more power output you can just be prepared to pay for it.

best daily I ever owned. Running cost : fun factor ratio is through the roof compared to anything else

Love my BRZ. Tip: if you get the manual, Altimas can't keep up 👌🏾
Idk if it was a maxima or altima but it was a v6 and it kept up. We werent racing but i was flooring it and he was behind me chasing. Im pretty sure he would have beaten me.
@@Ryan-ue9ve I don't know what they had done to it but I personally haven't had either one of those come close. I've beaten a couple different cars. And it was us actually racing (disclaimer) nothing crazy though
@@JBC1154 they probably werent the v6 versions. Their rated 0-60 is also faster than ours so im pretty sure they can hang or beat us.
@@Ryan-ue9ve I don't do 0-60 only highway stuff so like 40 roll 50 roll 60 roll. After some of the stuff I beat I couldn't see those coming close. Especially if I mix in e85 with 93. But I know someone with one I'll have to race him to see
@@JBC1154 oh yea that was on a stock tune. Im on e85 right now and i think it would walk it slowly but im not sure. E85 makes this car feel proper. I honestly dont really think in needs a lot of power but i could never go back to stock tune. I dont beat mustangs or any v8s but i could kinda hang with a newer v6 camaros.
So you want a Nissan 240sx.

i just commented this now … im too late :( check my 240 btw IG: juniorschassis $ u wont be disappointed

Bro you called it
I had the 1st ever Toyota Special Edition 860.
More please
more pls, thanks
Is it safe to run a lightweight flywheel with a turbo?
I just bought an FRS 5 days ago and I’ve never owned a car that puts a smile on my face so much
I have a Brz and just wanted to say this is the best video explanation yet that I've seen online about these cars thank you🙏🏾
I still remember the first time I heard about this car and loved the concept of a light RWD car that compares to a miata.
He is still the pewdiepie of cars for me.

Got in pictures or a ig? would love to see it.
Showed up in my feed so:
I own a 2016 BRZ (bought new) and liked the car as both a daily driver and occasional track use.
