    Alex, the oil starve issue on the 2.4 is not due to the RTV. This has been proven already. There is a bunch of content out already that addresses this. See 9000brz, Verus engineering and a podcast by a Canadian time attack driver ( TH-cam channel Driver’s Paddock ) that have discussed this in detail. I see this rtv theory get passed around on social media and it’s just bad information. Fixing the rtv, using a thicker oil and adding an oil cooler will not solve the issue. The oil overfill seems to be the main solution and that’s why verus is developing a larger capacity pan.

    • @r5obiwan
      @r5obiwan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      Larger capacity pan and a slightly longer pickup tube might do very well

      Accusump seems to be the only viable option for tracking the FA 2.4 at this point. Faulty oil pickup design. Will void the shit out of your warranty, though.

      @@francostrong202 once again, check out content from people who track and log their oil pressures like @9000brz accumsump is not the answer. Overfill and larger cap oil pan is showing the results.

      thank you Frank, i returned to this video to opinionate w/o trolling. my assessment of my accumulative TH-cam consumption on this subject is, when you drop the oil pan, you are introducing more human error where, the cause of the oil starvation and the excessive RTV have not been conclusively correlated. please also watch FlatironsTuning and

    I’ve blown three stock brz motors, why am I here still loving this platform??…. Also first
    I totally understand everyone saying it was my fault, motor one was killed by a botched oil change at the dealership(dude literally just didn’t put oil back in and I didn’t check my dip stick like a trustful fool) but when I brought it to them for a new motor under warranty they did a rush job, so motor two got piston slap around 300(not 3k) miles, so then I obviously take it to another dealer who didn’t want to replace the entire block but did tell me it had trans pan sealant used to seal the block instead of fujibond, 12/16 of the valves were out of spec with some being over double the size, even the damn engine cover fell off and melted on my exhaust…….. even after all the they were lazy, only replaced the heads, motor three had piston slap yet again… I gave up, got a lemon law lawyer, won and let them buy back the car for more than I paid for it….. I only had the car for 10k miles and 8 months(minus 3 months in the shop) I’d love to get another one some day but I can’t trust the car until I learn to wrench my own and have a larger emergency fund

    I got to ride with the top drivers in their class multiple times a new ND4 (?) Miata and a GR86. These two guys kept trading for best times, what stood out to me when trying to decide what i liked better is as a more experienced driver myself the GR86, not just its driver as i did ride in a few driven by others, was MUCH more playful. Now if you wanted to go fast with NO Drama then the Miata is absolute peak, a different level of smooth, with the GR86 you have to work to get the most out of it but personally i love that. Both are great but that was the distinction. Also fun fact i got to chat with both together multiple times, and apparently they were more or less running near identical front and rear spring rates, so it was really just the differences in everything else, even when modified the characters of the cars remain very distinct.
    Where i will give the Miata a shout out is i still feel if you are at road speeds just cruising around it has a bit more a sense of fun without pushing it. Ignoring its a convertible, the seating position and view out, the sense of speed is just better, 25 in a miata and 35 in a GR86 feel similar which is the one gripe i have with the GR86. Few other small things too the Miata is still more fun for any sort of chill driving, but the wheel-sawing nature the GR86/BRZ demand to get the best out of them at the limit is just too addictive if you are into that, its very "rally" be it on smooth tarmac or not and i love that about it so much it would make me default to it between the two, despite its oiling issues.
    If i bought a GR86 and replaced the seats i would actually be looking into raising them as much as possible rather then being "snug", as that is a big part of what slows down the sense of speed, probably just not even replace them if i bought one with upward adjustment, as not being able to see directly over your hood or out the sides and downward essentially is what causes that effect. With that it would be perfect streetable track car imo.

    I’ve seen multiple videos showing cleaning of the RTV and only see pieces, never a blocked screen and talking screen, it’s a boxed 5 sided screen, impossible to block !! Yes, oil pressure drops on extreme right hand turns and extreme track racing ! But for the street it’s all about fun and engaging drive. Love my 2023 BRZ ❤️

    I've had my GR86 for a little over a year and it has just about 13,200 miles on it. It's my daily driver for school, and I have tracked it twice in a year. I put an exhaust on it and I drive pretty aggressively in the morning on my way to work (3:30 AM). I dropped the oil pan 2 weeks ago and no RTV was in the pickup tube. I've done 3 oil changes in 13,000 miles and I let the motor break in for about 1,000 miles. Each car will be different, and if you really don't abuse the car like so many people do, you shouldn't have that big of a problem with it

    The GR 86 is my favorite car ever. It is just unmatched in its dynamics and fun, not just for the price, I genuinely think the only things above the 86 are some Porsches and the Emira.
    This is all of that at a price we can reach. God bless Toyota and Subaru for that.

  • @colincalvert4882
    @colincalvert4882 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    The RTV is not the reason for engine failure. The pickup tube has 5 sides to it, even with one entire side blocked by RTV its been found to still work fine.
    The boxer engine found in the BR86, along with its weird orientation of the oil pickup tube, causes a lack of oil to be sucked up during cornering, especially for prolonged right turns. Add the fact that it can’t hold much oil to begin with, and you see frequent oil pressure drops that cause damage if done frequently. Not to mention subi engines love consuming oil.
    Oil consuming engine, flat boxer engine design, low oil capacity = lack of oil in engine.
    Overfilling slightly has fixed this issue almost entirely, it seems.

    Back in the day Honda never made a fix for the dseries motor. The aftermarket industry tried but there are just limitations to certain motors, unless you spend major money on oil system upgrades. That’s one reason for motor swaps in Hondas becoming so prominent in among Civics, along with more power, better freeway cruising speeds, and reliability. Sounds similar, again why these have a bunch of swapped motors already.

      it's not the rtv. the oil pan is simply too small. the volume of oil is inadequate for higher G force turns. the best fix for a stock car is to overfill the motor by maybe like 1 quart or maybe less. if you are tracking the car you are at risk. otherwise driving normally you have nothing to worry about.

    Are you going to cover Toyota entering Australia's Supercar Championship with a homologated V8 Supra?

    i decided to go with a brz over a gr86 solely because toyotas handling of warranties with 86s and gr corollas has been pathetic

    Interesting that you don't like the look of the fatter tire on this car. I think 17x9 with 245/40R17's look very good on this platform. The 18's kind of "expose" how diminutive the OEM calipers and rotors are.

    I just don’t really like that they named it the GR86. Like i respect gazoo, but I’ve only heard about them when this car and the GR Yaris came out and suddenly they’re all over Toyota. To the point of having a whole model named after them. There was nothing wrong with the name gt86

      It’s not really named the gr86 it’s just 86. The gr is not the name it’s just the name of the Toyota performance division, just like the gr supra and gr corolla. They both are still just called supra and corolla.

    As other comments have said, gotta stop with the misinformation regarding RTV. Please do your research and don't just go by word of mouth by other media.

    It’s dumb to have engine sounds sent through the stereo ,lol,and I don’t want an engine that’s going to blow up because it’s got oiling issues,..I’d rather have an old 240/260z with a built LS motor, or a 2jz ,I’m just not. Fn of weak motors..

    You can buy a fairly new 370z cheaper instead of a BRZ/GR86 and it would probably be more reliable also why would you trust Toyota right now they don't stand behind they're sporty cars as in the recent news

    Your wheel specs recommendation is ass and your information about the rtv is wrong. Folks, if you want to keep things small and tight. Wheels specs recommendation would be 18x8 et48 or 45 with 225/40, or 17x8 et48/45 with 225/45.
